Am I reading this -diag report right that I am experiencing a 60% packet loss at the second last hop? Do you go by the first % or the second? If it’s the first there is packet loss in my first hop to the US.

Thank you for replying, SolarNova. Yeah, I mean real lag not FPS issues. I’ve done everything I could think of to fix the issue from my end and came to the conclussion that it must be an internet issue. GW2 support page says run the -diag, so I did but alas I have no idea how to interpret it beyond “this is the trace route part”.

So you’re saying the packet loss is at their end? Not mine? Should I be contacting my ISP or ANet about this then?

1) Press (Ctrl-Shift-Esc) to open Task Manager.
2) Click the Performance tab. Click Resource Monitor
3) Network tab > TCP Connections, look for gw2.exe

should see it using port 6112 and 80. Look at latency column.

There are 3 GW2.exe in that list. 430, 300 and 220ms. That’s sitting in LA on Blackgate. I’m Australian so those numbers aren’t that high.

I’m having lag issues since the patch, not fps. My FPS never drops below 50 even in the biggest WvW battles while I’m lagging all over the place just following a couple of guildies.

I have been suffering game-killing lag ever since the first Halloween patch went live. It’s frustrating but still playable out in PvE zones (though higher level areas like Cursed Shore are nearly impossible) and I’ve managed to do my Halloween stuff but my guild is hardcore WvW and for me that aspect of the game has become completely unplayable. I left it for a few days, as I know these kinds of updates comes with bugs but there have been several new updates and hotfixes since then and the issue has only gotten worse.

I lag and rubberband all over the place, my allies and enemies alike seem to disappear, reappear and teleport around while my skills suffer major delay lag or just don’t activate at all. None of my guildies are suffering the same issue, but I cannot find any fault on my end and this is the first time I encounted game-stopping lag since the first BWE.

Please, any kind of aknowledgement that this issue is being looked at or you are at least aware of it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Is anyone else feeling this? Do I need to adjust my sensitivity or mouse DPI in some way? I’ve always played with highest camera sensitivity and a 2000 DPI on my mouse, for all games, and it worked great before but now it almost makes me feel sick.

That’s cool. But I am seriously cranky about this camera thing right now. I logged in, ready to do some serious WvW with my guild for the night and I find I cannot play like that. I just can’t.

So there was a patch and now my camera “snaps” around instead of the nice smooth spin I had before? It’s awful, it’s all jerky and makes me feel a little ill, like I’m being jerked back the direction I just spun from.

As a DD ele I am constantly spinning my camera around and it just feels…. blocky?

I agree buddy. It’s a crap skill and the only reason anyone was ever using it was because you could exploit it’s brokenness.

I’m not saying it shouldn’t have been fixed, but with the long cast time, weak damage and a crappy blind there’s really no reason to be using it.

So why are you posting in the Ele section and complaining when people don’t talk about sPvP?

A lot of the AI in Orr can be quite difficult at times when you have multiple mobs on you and I see plenty of people dying when I don’t. And I play on HoD, as a member of DiE, one of the founding guilds of the Titan Alliance, bro. The enemies we face are not ungeared/underleveled zergs, they are the world champion players of War Machine and Last Pride, they are the relentless hordes of Resonance and Nocturnal, they are the guys who clawed their way up the ladder to the number 1 tier.

I have no idea how hp affects various builds in sPvP. I don’t play it. Doesn’t mean you need to put down someone’s opinion because they don’t play the same way as you.

@Dynamite – DD ele. Not a staff nuker. DD ele.

How to build a godly WvW ementalist?

There’s more to it than just saying “Tell me what to play”. How do you want to play? Do you want to be a ranged nuker? Go staff and some of the above builds. Do you want to be more in the fray, duking it out face to face? Try a heavy suvivial build with good melee damage.

Personally I play a DD might stacking build. In most large fights I can stack 25 mights alone with a little effort, though rarely do I need to do so alone while in larger fights. 1v1, 1v2, sometimes even 1v3 I can hold my own but only so long as I play fast and hard. Hesitating and letting the enemy land any blows on me and I crumble like a wet bag of kittens.

So from what various people are saying, we want an ele who has access to 40+ skills, has tons of health and can deal more damage than any other class. Gratz internet, you win again.

Seriously, I long ago stopped thinking of the Elementalist as a ranged class. It’s a melee-to-mid range class with a long range support option. I also have no problem with the lower HP and often play with between 12 and 13k hp while solo farming Orr and WvWing with my guild. I don’t need to stack vit or toughness to fix my ele, I just need to be on my toes, throwing out dodges and gap closers, stunning and grappling and constantly moving.

Yes, many of us feel tricked. We expected to be playing a mage. We expected to be raining down fire and lightning on our enemies and for that to be enough. But it didn’t turn out like that. You just have to roll with the punches or change your class.

Want lots of hp, high damage and the ability to change between melee and ranged? Go play a Warrior.

Also if you are in D/D and u need distance disengage, we have a lot of cap closers which can be used to escape combat. There is nothing wrong with picking your fights, that is part of being a good player.

Playing D/D and need distance? Unselect target, turn 180, ride the lightning. Viola, you’re at 1200 range…

If you are within 300 range from your opponent, you wont ride away, you will run into him instead.

Dude, turn Auto-target it off. It’s as bad as using Auto-attack, imo. Just begging to aggro everything and RTL into baddies.

For the rest of this thread, I don’t see the ele has having balance issues so much as a few glaringly broken mechanics that one would hope to have fixed within 3 months of launch. So there’s still a couple of months to go.

Zane, I’ve played a good bit of D/D too and it’s great fun – was wondering why you would only have 5 pts in Air and not grab Zephyr’s Boon, though? Fury and Swiftness on demand with 2 Auras (3 if you include the Ring of Fire -> Earth Grab combo for Fire Shield). It’s really powerful as D/D, especially with the way your gear is set up (ie. high Crit Dmg).

It’s also much better to rely on actual Swiftness (33%) vs just the 10% passive bonus when roaming around.

Youā€™re talking about the chill and daze auras yeah? The main reason I didnā€™t take another 5 points in Air was to put it into Arcana for Lingering Elements, increasing boon duration and fury duration (though it appears that Arcane Fury isnā€™t currently being affected by Lingering Elements. Bug?).

Yeah, auto follow is stupid but so is not being able to co-ordinate properly as a WvW guild because you can’t see where you all are on the mini-map unless you run around as a zerg.

Obviously we’re managing at the moment, go HoD! but long-term it’s just not practical.

yeah zane thats the battlegroup system. In DAOC when you formed a battlegroup you could make it open or closed, invite who you want or let everyone join, inside the battlegroup people could form their own regular groups. Thats the system we need here.

Ahk. I never played DAOC so I wasn’t sure what you had meant. But yeah, upgrading the current squad system to allow you to make it private or public (private should hide the icon to anyone not in the squad) and have regular parties within it that both the leader and members can see is definitely what we need.

If some kind of change isn’t made, or another system implemented quickly, I can’t see people putting up with these limitations for more than 6-8 months. After that we’re going to see people get sick of waiting for fixes and changes and move on.

Ah, I see, it’s more skill-sets than specific professions. That makes sense. Certainly I’ve wanted some way to find my own group of people on the map (usually my guild, so gold dots would work fine). I’ll only ever be a grunt, though — so anything that makes it easier for a leader to send me somewhere useful would be great.

Yep, skill-sets/roles in a party make-up can make a huge difference. Boons only affect 5 people including the caster, so if you wanted to stealth a guild group for a surprise attack you would need a thief in each party. If you had a group of nukers that focused on taking down siege then having a guardian to defend them in the group would be a huge asset.

I mean, you can already set up groups like this currently but it’s a pain the kitten. It requires far more effort than it’s currently paying off and being unable to find other parties of your guild mates without having to following a commander icon (which brings the server zerg with you) is just plain stupid.

Look, the real problem as I see it is that ANet had this idea that Guilds should be like real life clubs. You join as many as you like and can comfortably commit to, just like in real life. Examples they used were belonging to a sporting team and stamp collector’s club (or something along those lines), meaning you could belong to both a PvP guild and a PvE guild and not be forced to choice between those.

In theory it sounds great. Who doesn’t want to join an elite WvW guild and at the same time join your best buddies silly happy casual fun time guild? But in reality guilds are more like sports teams than hobbiest groups. You can’t belong to multiple sports teams and expect to be able to commit to training, attending games and social events for both groups.

As a serious WvW guild our members are expected to WvW every night that they are on. We don’t say “You must be on every night between 6pm and midnight”, but we do expect that if you are online during our prime time that you are in WvW, representing our guild and fighting for our server.

Now if you’re a working adult (like I’m sure many of us are) you can probably only play in the evenings/weekends/when you’re not working. So if you belong to multiple guilds you are going to need to spread your already limited time between these guilds.

In the OPs case he wanted to run sPvP and tPvP groups. To be successful in tPvP you’re going to need to spend time training and practicing, researching new builds, watching videos of how other players play and just generally putting the time in. But if you’re off with another guild how can you do that? If you can only play for 4-6 hours each night and you need to practice sPvP, participate in tPvP and want to spend time with your buddies wouldn’t it be a smarter idea to have your buddies join your sPvP guild?

Saying “Why would I join your guild when you won’t let me join any others” just says to me that we don’t want you in our guild anyway. You wouldn’t commit the time and effort that we expect of our members in our chosen focus. This is no different from how any organized group behaves be in a pvp or raiding guild from another MMO or your local football club.

So you’re saying if your guild claims something, it shouldn’t stay and help defend it? Or at least prepare it to be defended? What does a couple of arrow carts cost your guild? A cata behind the door? A treb on the roof? Not asking you to blow a week’s worth of jumping puzzle blueprints on a lousy tower, but if you’re not going to do anything but zerg on off after claiming it, why should we throw our gold away on holding it for you?

Have some pride in your guild, it’s symbol and and defend what you claim.

A couple of arrow carts and catas behind each door are very expensive. It’s not about the blueprint, it’s about the supplies you eventually waste on those siege engine. At the start of a new round you often claim a keep for your guild just in case it “accidently” gets defended long enough to get some upgrades. You don’t drop any siege engines until you know what your opponents are planing, how their usually attack paths are and which keep they focus on.

I disagree. A single catapult behind a tower door is hardly expensive and can be the difference between holding the tower or losing it. If your group doesn’t have the supply to drop into a single cata (assuming you’re atleast a 5 man group) then you’re not playing right.

Take the tower, drop your cata and your supply, head to a supply camp, defending yaks and sentries along the way. Easy. You don’t have to come back that tower, but the next lot of guys that have to hold it are going to have an easier time of it since you left them some help.

Agree with Narathkor. Our guild has a strict no multi-guilding policy. Our members knew this when they joined and if they fail to represent whenever they are online they recieve a warning and then a boot.

It’s a lame feature imo, but one easily worked around. Setting up your tPvP guild sounds like the smartest thing you could have done.

The biggest issue I have guilds is the inability to see when the last time was that someone logged in combined with offline members being shown by account name, not character name. We have members that people can’t remember seeing online but we don’t want to kick because we can’t confirm it without knowing who they are.

You really don’t, everyone is just programmed with that raid panel mindset. This game is beyond that, you dont need it, all that is needed is a battlegroup join function where everyones dots would show up on the map and the leader could then see what is going on.

It’s to be more than that. Our 30 man guild group loves our server’s Militia and actively works with the “pugs”, for a lack of another term, in dominating WvW but we would still rather have a system that allows our guys to be in a group together that doesn’t just allow anyone on the map to click a blue icon and join on in.

I think it works just fine with the current system, with /m and /t….I hardly ever join parties in wvw and never felt the need for them.
And I think it would affect very badly the servers unity, in the form that every raid would probably care only about their raid and not give a crap about what else is happening with the rest of the players therefore making them weaker instead of stronger…

We use vent very heavily for both the guild and the alliance so it’s not about communication, it’s about knowing where we all are on a map, and as said above, about group make up. Having a blocker, a stealth-giver, a nuker in each party or being able to form parties of solely blockers/nukers/etc and be able to see these groups as the raid leader would be hugely beneficial.

ummm its not one persons responsibility to build siege on keeps. If you are under the impression that claiming a keep is there for anything more than activating buffs from your guild onto the keep you are mistaken. Everyone should participate in putting siege on the keep, not just the claiming guild.

So you’re saying if your guild claims something, it shouldn’t stay and help defend it? Or at least prepare it to be defended? What does a couple of arrow carts cost your guild? A cata behind the door? A treb on the roof? Not asking you to blow a week’s worth of jumping puzzle blueprints on a lousy tower, but if you’re not going to do anything but zerg on off after claiming it, why should we throw our gold away on holding it for you?

Have some pride in your guild, it’s symbol and and defend what you claim.

Gold sinks are gold sinks. I think the point of the Cultural gear (weapons and armour) is simply that they don’t want you to have them within the first week of playing, or the first month.

Seriously though, why would you use dungeon/temple exotics when crafted have the best stat distribution choices, then you can just reskin them? That’s what I did. I have full crafted valkrie gear reskinned with light Vigil Order gear and am working on obtaining more sets to reskin my T1 and T2 Sylvari gear on to.

So that said, would you really use the T3 Cultural even if they were exotic? Chances are the stats are only going to work for one class/build and it ain’t going to be yours, just look at the WvW Invader gear.

Our biggest problem is all the guilds that claim keeps and then abandon them, leaving no siege, no buffs, no defenders, not even a scout to watch for an enemy coming to retake it.

I’ve brought it up in Map chat before and am often met with “Why would be pay for siege if we’re not staying there?” which astounds me. You leave siege there so that when it comes under attack again the people who rush to defend your stupid keep have defences to fall back on, and aren’t forced to rush to assemble them while also trying to hold back the horde outside.

Seriously, a catapult behind the door and an arrow cart or two on the walls, just outside of casual AoE range is all we ask for. Unless it’s Garrison. Then you keep your stinking paws off, that’s ours. Lol.

I don’t think WvW was ever intended to be casual, not with the amount of time and gold sinks in it. I think that the Squad feature is a great feature for more casual players and pug players, but I agree that we very much need a real raid/warband UI setup.

We need to be able to see where more than 4 other people are on the minimap, we need to be able to keep these groups private and have leader invite/kick rights on them and we most definitely do not need to be advertising our location to every other large group running around on the map (aka Commander) unless we choose to do so.

I love Armour of Earth at 50%. Life saver. I mostly use Arcane Wave with Ring of Fire for the +3 might and the damage is nice.

Amulet – Ruby Orichalcum Amulet of the Berserker
Accessories – 2x Ruby Orichalcum Earing of the Berserker
Rings – 2x Ruby Orichalcum Ring of the Berserker
Backslot – Guild Assassin Backpack + Exquisite Ruby Jewel

Attack – 3,363 (increases with Might)

I play a DD ele in WvW, focusing on speed and burst damage. I keep up a constant 10% passive speed increase with Zephyr’s Speed while in Air (which is whenever I am travelling and I open my attacks in Air + escape in Air if I need to).

Normally I play one of two ways while in my guild group. I either RTL right into the middle of a group of enemy players > updraft > ring of fire > arcane wave > fire grab > earthquake and then Mist Form the kitten out of there (tons of dodging and circle strafing and just being all over the place to confuse people while my guild are pounding on them).

Or I use my speed to circle around the edges of an enemy group, picking off the weak and the slow with RTL and locking them down with Updraft, Earthquake and Frozen Burst. If their buddies come to help, I Mist Form or RTL away.

Solo, I use my speed and burst to kill solo enemies and harrass yak supply lines. I also play scout and rear guard for my guild group when required.

How do I find it? I see a lot of DD eles in WvW that just don’t know how to play, they give up, blame the class, call it UP. But I love it. I can 1v1, 1v2 even 1v3 easily (heartseeker thieves are nasty though if they spot me before I spot them). I find that a lot of enemies are very slow to react to Burning Speed and RTL, also dodging backwards towards any enemy while you’re running away from them and passing through them really throws them, lol.

I carry a staff for sieges on walls and killing trebs etc but my guild has other staff eles, I’m more important doing what I prefer doing.

The Commander icon is great for gathering a server together and whatever, but we really need a proper raid or warband style UI for more organized groups.

It would need to have a easily identified leader with the ability to kick members and none of this anyone one can join in kittens, it would need to be invite only.

It would have to show all the members in the band in a UI similar to the simple party layout, and show members on the minimap.

I don’t see why these wasn’t added in the first place, to be honest. It just doesn’t make sense to say “Yes, we want you to play tactically and have organized groups” and then go and make it nearly impossible to manage more than 5 people without buying a Commander icon (which still gives you no UI or any idea where the members of your squad are) and drawing every pug on your map to you.

We run a 20-25 man group most nights, with groups dedicated to scouting and artillery and what-have-you but it is so difficult sometimes to even just find each other to group up quickly.

Please, please ANet, add a real raid/warband UI. I’d even be happy with a 10 man party UI.

I don’t hate the backpack, it’s even funny seeing a bunch of us running around with it. But I just wish there were a smaller version.

Like a cute little backpack to go with my cute light vigil armour and guild shirt.

Before anyone says it, yes, I know I can turn the appearance off.

Now, why is the backpack so big? On my female Sylvari ele it’s huge. Looks like something out of Day Z.

It’d love to see it about half that size, with the side pockets further up and cut it off below the lighter section of material.

Also, why can’t we dye it? It has a guild logo on it, which is great, but I can’t dye it our guild colours?

And if it can’t be changed (since I doubt it will be, lol. I’m not that silly), how about some backslot skins? Some nice little cute backpacks in the gemstore would be great.

The real problem here is invisible enemies. Give their algorithms time to match servers properly.

Seconded. My guild will attempt to secure supply lines or strike an enemy force from behind while they are on a gate or wall, only to suddenly have 30 more enemy players seemingly appear out of thin air all around us.

Please fix, ANet.
