I just got mine to work. I didn’t notice until I tried to run my anti-virus that it was widespread. I kept getting the same notice on different programs saying that I wasn’t connected to the internet when I was able to download and surf websites. I went and got a free malwear scanner and ran it, deleted what it found, then restarted my computer. That seemed to do the trick. Perhaps there is a virus or something floating around on your hard drives as well preventing programs from accessing the internet.
I’ve played since launch, never with any issue… so what is the deal?
I don’t use AVG, and my firewalls never gave it a problem, I even ran it with no restrictions. Is this a virus or a bug on Anets part?
I haven’t played GWs in a few weeks, but I want to again, however when I go to launch the game i get the normal window prompt with the red text in the lower left hand side that says "Connection error(s) detected retrying…. "
No idea what to do.
Ahh, okay cool. Well I enjoy conditions and being able to kinda slip away and keep reapplying them. The high damage build I tried wasn’t bad, but it was really repetitive as to just restealthing and back stabbing, works well, but I found it to be a little boring. I’d like to stick with D/D and Short-bow.
Okay well I got GW2 back when it first came out and spent most of my time bouncing between 5 different profs trying to figure out which one I enjoy the most to make that my main. I didn’t get a whole heck of a lot of playing time in because of exams and doing crap for the Army, but now I’m back and have deiced that the thief is what I enjoy the most.
What I am not so sure on is how exactly to build mine up. I do enjoy D/D and Short-bow and from what I have seen that uses the stealth and back stab type of set up. All well in good, but from some of the online “guides” (I use that term loosely) they make some odd choices and didn’t provide any explanation as to why they choose something and how it would fit into the rest of the build.
I also spent some time trying out a condition build after seeing another thief in game that used a Short-bow to great affect and then would finish someone off with D/D most of the time. I made a build to what would seem most logical to do that with, but it probably wasn’t exactly what the other player I saw was set up as.
Basically I’m just looking for a few ideas on builds, what to get for my gear, and a basic idea of when it is good to link cretin abilities together and things of that nature. Any and all advice is appreciated. Ooo, and I had my thief since I installed the game so I didn’t just pick the prof because everyone is QQin’ that it is OP….. I’m not the greatest player, but I don’t see how it is OP, I just enjoy the playstyle.

I have an issue with finding a good guild that actually sets up times to practice and get strategies down. When I enter the sPvP it is either good or bad. Either there is 4 or 5 thieves on the other team or it is somewhat balanced in that there isn’t a butt load of thieves. That is the only thing I have noticed that really kills sPvP for me. I can handle pretty much any other prof. given on my cool downs and how well each of us play.
I hate it as well. I want to be able to select the items I want. I’ve gotten 4 chests on my main toon with no weapons or armor I can use. The mystic forge just confuses the h3ll out of me and even when I managed to get it right I ended up with even more stuff I couldn’t use. There is no fun in working towards glory when you may waste it all on crap you can’t use.
So it is pretty obvious that you use signets and I have that. What I am mainly asking is what would you carry as your other weapon set? I was messing around with Sword/Axe, but never found it useful unless I was in a cluster of people not being targeted or using the sword’s leap to gain some distance to switch back to rifle. I then when to Sword/Shield to counter burst and, like Sword/Axe, use it to gain distance.
I run 4 signets out of the possible 5 so I can have the bolas. It lowers my cirt slightly, but with 3 stacks of adrenalin it gets bumped back up and so does my other all power. I find the build extremely affective, you just have to stay on the move and pay very close attention as to when you need to dodge, gain some distance, or pop the elite signet.
Any input would be great!! I’ve been playing warrior since launch and no matter the other profession I try out I always end up back on my warrior.
Last night I ran across about 18 thieves total, but one was running a really neat and pretty powerful condition build with the short bow. I went and made a spec that is like it just a little bit more geared towards my personal playstyle. What I am wondering is what else should I run with it? I have D/D which has FDB to apply bleeds, but seems a bit weak outside of that since I don’t have anything set up for the almighty backstab. I thought about P/P for single target, but then I read that P/P is pretty crappy over all.
Any input would be great. I was running a variant of the D/D backstab build that everyone and their brother plays, but I find it boring and really cheap.
@Animosity: Thanks! =)
EDIT: How would you open and change between attunements? I normally started in Air or Fire and would go to Water for healing and then Earth to let regen do more. I haven’t really played it all that much mainly because I could never find a good guide or always saw other people using S/D or Staff.

The link is bad. Could you please relink it? I tried running D/D ele, but was having a hard time not getting my face smashed in or not putting out a lot of damage. I have been some vids of people who play it…. seems powerful in a group setting, but they seemed to cycle nonstop to get AoE.
So does the signets passive bonus just not work in-combat? The boon is displayed, but I always appear to be running at normal speed until I leave combat.
