The manifesto stated the only thing you should grind for is aesthetics. Guess what? Legendaries were purely aesthetic!
So yeah, please, just give it up already.
Ok, which part in the manifesto said that. Give me the quote. Give me the time. Where in that video does it say a single thing about grinding for aesthetics, or mention gear progression at all?
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games – we leave the grind to other MMOs.”
- Mike O’BrienI hope you feel real stupid now, no offense by the way.
Where in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E Does it say that?
Time and quote please. That is the manifesto trailer everyone is saying they lied so horribly in. I want to know where IN THAT trailer they lied as of the Lost Shores patch. Also, the quivers or tome recipes I believe only cost one essence? But there is a possibility that I am mistaken. And you have very good odds of getting that essence by just playing through the dungeon on the way to getting the ring and the tokens needed for the infusion. Now, if those recipes cost 250, or even 50 essences, then I would be agreeing with you 100% that it is a ridiculous requirement for a level of progression.
You really are clueless aren’t you? Maybe read that text again and let it sink in.
All I know is they closed the big thread so that should tell you they can careless. Who knows what will happen in the future but I know what I will be doing and it does not involve GW2 anymore, sad to say.

I see a lot of uninformed people saying Anet was probably doing this because of the population drop….population drop, that explains why from someone who played since lauch saw nothing but a dramatic increase in population since then.
Also the server population is determined from who is actually logged in playing and after the patch instead of more than 2/3rds of the servers that were full status have dropped to high which tells me a lot of people quit playing. Also this is during prime time.
A golem named BUY-4373, an NPC named Subdirector Blingg, and a jumping puzzle named Under New Management.
I’m sorry, but those references are too coincidental to just be funny. Thanks for letting us now, ANet.
>.>…
Adding this which I just learned:
Lord Funk over in the Threadnaught mentioned that the new jumping puzzle is called “Under New Management.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-vCstPnTd4I think we may be on to something here.
Wonder why the puzzle is called “Under New Management”? lol…
I quit logging in also, maybe logged in a couple times to see whats going on in chat, people seem oblivious to what is going on in-game. It should be extremely obvious why Anet is doing what they are doing just like EA/Bioware screwed up their almost perfect rpg shooter.
Hey at least I got Skyrim to play and their new expansion coming soon. MMO’s nowadays are all about screwing the player over while taking their money. I should have given up on MMO’s after GW1 but you know…
This is the Mass Effect 3 ending controversy all over again.
A company making big promises and then breaking them in the worst possible way. A kittentorm in the forums where people feel lied to and ignored from the very devs that made and broke these promises. Just like Bioware kittened up their strongest franchise, Arenanet is about to screw the most promising and revolutionary MMO of the last 7/8 years.
Why?
I remember that day when I got ME3, one of the best games I have played and even went back to the first one to catch up cause I thought the game was just incredible. After I saw the ending on ME3 I kinda wanted to kill every living being on the planet ;p, so I decided to never purchase anything with EA or Bioware on it ever again.
Anet is basically doing the same thing but not quite as harsh as Bioware/EA. It is all about money and should be obvious why they are adding a treadmill in the game now. Just like I did with EA/Bioware I will do the same to Anet/NcSoft.
It would take a miracle to get me back in the game now. I think I will stick with bethesda since I am back into Skyrim now and having a lot of fun while not having to deal with a treadmill or lies lol.
Also it seems like Anet cares more about infracting people expressing their displeasure on the forum. I hope they enjoy it cause I can careless what happens to my account with them anymore.
(edited by Zenith.1234)
the only people not excited are really the ones in the forums complaining because everyone I talk to in game is thinking it was a great addition and cant wait to work towards them. Forum folk are the vocal minority in GW2.
I rarely post on the forums, I am not excited about this and doubt I will ever log back in.
The obvious choice is boobs, unless you don’t like boobs? I am not sure what to say if you don’t like boobs…
This is a crying shame. They took what was the best MMO I’ve ever played and completely ruined it in a single stroke. I just don’t see how this move can possibly work for GW2. The players against a gear treadmill will mostly eventually quit- many of them are quitting already. For most of the rest, I don’t give them long before they give it up, too. They’ll give it a try, but the grind will be too much to stomach.
The content locusts will eat this crap up so fast the devs won’t know what happened, and start screaming for more. Then they’ll leave too, because there’s no way A net will be able to keep them fed and happy.
Anybody that’s left by then will start screaming for server mergers, or just giving up themselves, just because there’s no one left to play with.
The only ones I see sticking it out for the long term are the hardcore sPvPers. They aren’t really affected by any of this, lucky kittens.
I’m not planning on straight up quitting, but at the moment, I don’t feel any urge to login at all. I won’t uninstall- at least not until I need the space on my SSD, then I’ll probably just move it to my other drive. I do know that if I DO start to play again, I won’t be spending dime one in the cash shop again. So far, I spent $50 over a bit less than 3 months, so an average of higher than a standard $15 per month sub. Kiss that goodbye. I wonder how much your typical content locust spends in the cash shop.
Did you think about that A Net? Or should I say Nexon? That’s who’s behind this, I have no doubt. We should have seen this kind of crap coming as soon as we saw the news that Nexon bought up a primary share of NCSoft.
Same boat as you, I quit having the excitement to log in after seeing what has happened and is going on now. I really can careless about free stuff either. I kinda wish I never got into MMO’s and stayed with offline games like my skyrim ;p.
The game is going a different direction than was promised. I bought the game on the promise and now I will probably be leaving which in other mmo’s I just silently leave cause when it comes down to it, feedback is pointless. Guess it’s time to move back to offline games, tired of wasting money on mmo’s but I did get my 60$ worth from this game while it lasted.
Seriously, the people in this thread act like a slight increase in stats is an absurdity that should never ever happen, but guess what? IT IS ALREADY IN THE GAME. I’m going to repost something that has been swallowed by this enormous thread of absolute madness:
“My thoughts on this topic: there is already a “treadmill” in place you start off with white quality gear and end up (at 80) still getting white level gear aswell as blue yellow and finally orange and purple (or blue… w/e legendary is). If they intended for zero gear progression they would have either;
A.) Made white quality gear “max” and then you would only have to look for gear you like the looks of. (rather boring in my opinion)
B.) Have each “tier” of gear level specific i.e. white is 1-19 blue is 20-39 yellow is 40-59 and then exotic’s/legendary and w/e else would be 60-80 or what have you. Also make each “tier” only drop from those level zones or creatures or whatever…The system that is in place now is, I repeat IS a gear treadmill of sorts, smoothly pulled off so it doesn’t really feel like one but it is. You don’t start off with max armor and thus have to gear yourself up. Sure it doesn’t take long and sure once you’ve maxed your gears you only need to upgrade looks (well until this patch hits…)."
You are talking about stuff less than the max level “80”, which is pointless. The game is officially wow 2.0 and I can’t stand it. Someone said something about recent firings or layoffs, go figure.
So I am disappointed in ANET for turning this game into a gear treadmill after promising no treadmill kitten I logged in today and people are acting like nothing is wrong. I guess people love gear treadmills after all, I know I hate it. I doubt I will log back in even if the content is free but it does give me time for skyrim’s expansions.
Saying a “story quest” is minor is very laughable and inconsiderate. A story is one of the “Major” aspects of MMORPG’s and if the story cannot be completed it is very game breaking.
Bugged as well, this is extremely game breaking and extremely annoying, I use story line quests to get me to 80 quickly…………..why did I even pick this stupid option….?
@herojuana, That is extremely inconsiderate to say that and it is a major bug not minor, also the story is amazing, maybe you should take some reading courses.
These points are so bad and so untrue it is making me laugh nonstop…
I am running a greatsword, but by the time I land two lazer beams on just 1 single mob, everything else is dead and I dont get credit for anything. Its just terrible and I dont want to be punished for playing the class I enjoy. It only works on veteran mobs but the game only throws one in every 3 waves or so. Its only because of the veteran that I can barely achieve a bronze or silver medal.
If you are having trouble tagging in zergs as a mesmer you should try a shatter build. You only need 30 in Illusions and 20 in Domination and just throw mirror blade/Iberserker, making sure you are near the mobs somewhat and shatter.
Also make sure you have signet of illusions and mirror images for obvious reasons. I really don’t have problems tagging with my mesmer but you are forced to use a shatter build to accomplish it.
In my honest opinion, I would like to see mantra of pain deal aoe damage. That would really make tagging easy and you wouldn’t need a shatter build. I really want to try a mantra build…
You can get that skin from the heart vendors in Fireheart Rise (possibly some other 60+ zone(s) also). Obviously you’ll need to run all over the place to get each piece.
Is this the tactical set you are talking about that’s in Fireheart Rise? If it is, wrong set.
That is the tactical set which is the same set in higher level areas, what is weird is the tribal set was reported in malchor’s leap but vanished. I hope they put it back in the game because I REALLY want that set bad.
29, loving the game even after 500+ hours. Fixing to acquire my 2nd level 80. Also this game never feels grindy whatsoever, which is amazing.
Actually that is not true @Dire. The set you are talking about is the “tactical” set which is also the same set in higher level areas. The tribal set doesn’t exist in PvE or was taken out recently. The Masquerade set in PvP locker has the graphics of the tribal set.
Endgame in GW2 is everything you see. GW2 is not your typical, lame MMO clone.
I have a level 80 and not even close to bored. Too much content to complete, it is crazy how people eat this enormous amount of content up in a few weeks. This game was a lot more than I expected with all the terrible MMO’s released.
You’re talking about rare as item quality. I’m talking about the actual meaning of the word rare. The rare items you mention aren’t rare
Oic, yes I agree there should be like a 10% chance from every boss in GW2 dungeons to drop a peace of the dungeon set associated with it.
That would be a bad idea and will never happen. Defeats the purpose of tokens.
I like the way it is and I love running the dungeons the way they are and they need to stop making stuff easier because of crybabies.
I feel that this game isn’t as exciting as Guild Wars 1 was.
Repair costs and waypoint travel fees are dragging down the gameplay experience for me personally. I mean we didn’t have that baloney in Guild Wars 1.
We could travel to any city for free and there were like 100 cities. Now we have 500 waypoints instead but they nickel and dime you to fast-travel. It’s just annoying.
GW1 isn’t an MMORPG, big difference.
I don’t have money problems in this game and definitely not getting bored. 406 hours played and still going strong.
I just want my tribal armor back in game.
Too bad that was my top fav armor after I saw it. Pretty irresponsible of ANET to not give us some light on this issue and teasing us with it, showing in PVP locker.
Someone said you could find this in Malchor’s Leap 75-80 zone but I think a patch got rid of one of the best looking armors I desperately wanted and changed it into tactical set which you get earlier levels. No one seems to know and ANET is completely ignoring us on this issue.
I just recently hit 71 and entered straits of devestation and the community there is awful beyond reason. They will walk all over you, not help and insult you in chat. Hopefully it is the server and I can switch but I need a good one first where people aren’t jerks.
TSW is also incredibly unbalanced and this comes with too many abilities. Limits are a good thing. TSW is also a gear treadmill and all you will be doing is endlessly grinding for better stats exactly like WoW is still today…BORING… I am so glad Anet grew a set and made this game different and actually fun.
False. See GW1. Tons of skills, good balance.
Everything else you talk about has nothing to do with skills.
False GW1 still has a lot of unbalanced skills. Ever wonder why they reduced the amount of skills? Also maybe try playing GW1 first and typing a sentence that is relevant.
They made constant balance adjustments and they were almost always small adjustments. It was the most finely tuned pvp the genre has ever seen. You fanboys are getting so ridiculous you are attacking GW1 lol.
If you think GW1 was unbalanced you were bad plain and simple. There is no if ands or buts, you were bad.
Sounds like a GW1 fanboy upset cause GW2 is a lot more balanced than the first simple because of less upfront skills to deal with.
Whatever helps you delude yourself. /shrug
Typical response after being proven wrong.

This is NOT a kitten contest! :P
TSW and GW2 both have good things and bad things about them.. each being subjective to the individual (IE: what I like about a game, you may dislike).
However, combat in both games comes off as just “spammy” ~ no weight, despite them touting “action combat” as a subtitle to their game(s).
Want real action combat? ~ go play C9, Vindictus, ect.. then come back and play an event in GW2 or a dungeon in TSW..
lol, you’ll be scratching your head going WTF IS kittenHT!
Well you just contradicted yourself telling me what REAL action is lol. The game is not a spamfest, try again.

No, maybe try out WvW. I hated PvP forever but after trying it I was amazed. It is also not a zerg fest like people say. It involves a lot of tactics to win. DR is bugged atm and will be fixed.
Also give events a whirl, they offer a lot of exp as well.

They have stated many times it is bugged. Stop freaking out over small things.
My girlfriend bought MOP the other day. I am amazed by the fact that the MOP zones are more beautiful than Gw2 over all. It’s hard to believe that Blizzard is able to do the great job they did with such an old game engine. And in case you Gw2 fanboys didn’t know…Gw2 artwork is just as out dated as Wows, hence the reason why Gw2 uses Direct X9….
I hope you are not serious lol. Maybe go enjoy MoP then or why are you here?
Same weapon skills do not bug me that much as I switch weapons often and keep all the weapons I can use in my bags. At first I thought it would get boring but I like it now instead of having 5000 hot keys covering my whole screen. It is better to pay attention to the story, environment, characters, etc, etc instead of your flashy skills.
I LOL-IRL at this thread.
Armor with better stats would make it a gear treadmill, not gonna happen in this game. If you are wanting better stats you are definitely in the wrong game. Maybe the panda is for you?
I occasionally get the 1 copper gold seller spam. ANet says to take the copper report and delete.
There is reward it just doesn’t make you OP crazy one-shotter. Also this is not a PvP game and to think so is absurd. PvP is always an attachment to a PvE game. People need to let the gear treadmill mindset go.
The game’s been out for 1 month and I got the best gear available and best skins for me.
And I’m done. Clearly they’re doing something wrong.
Not a wow mindset if I haven’t even played the game. Just common sense of rewarding people……………why the kitten else would you run a dungeon like CoF when I got the full set + weapons and done every path and sm. People find it fun really ? :S
Best gear? lol GW2 is not a gear treadmill so you can’t have better gear. This game is a cosmetic game where you enjoy getting sweet looking armors. Maybe you should have read about the game before buying thinking it was all stats?
I know this simple sentence after this one might shock people’s brain and be a massive surprise but I digress. This game is barely 1 month old and it takes time to add in content. This game has plenty of progression just people need to get away from the WoW mindset of having to be rewarded for every single thing in existence.
Actually, I would say in general that male armour is underwhelming in the game for scholar classes too – whereas clearly more time has been put into the female armour. I had hoped ArenaNet would have changed this policy since Elementalist had the same issue in Guild Wars 1, but it doesn’t appear as though they have.
I really hope they give the ability to pay for a gender/appearance switch.
I only play female characters so I can only really care for the female armors. I would give almost anything if ANET would remake a lot of the dungeon armors and make them look cooler :/. You can probably tell I really like the revealing or semi-revealing armors.
Guild Wars 2 a PvP game? Lmfao. I think people really need to sit back and actually read the details on the game or any MMORPG game. Not one MMORPG is a PvP game. All MMORPG’s are pure PvE with tacked on PvP.
Also this game is amazing and it is unreal of the amount of things to do. If you get bored and can’t find anything and actually bum-rushed the game in 1 week then maybe this game isn’t for you or any game for that matter.
After you’re done all your quests in The Secret World it’s like, “Congratulations!” You’ve completed your storyline! Now go PvP!" They have dungeons but you’re pretty much locked out if you didn’t reach endgame on the first day.
You are talking about The Secret World which I have played and it became another gear treadmill WoW wannabe but it does give interesting quests and such. I really wish MMORPG"s would move away from the gear treadmill crap like GW2 did.
The only medium armors worth going for are OOW and Cultural Tier 3. The rest are so ugly including a lot of light and heavy armors but at least they got 3-4 times as many good looking armors.
I know on my Elementalist I can’t wait to get that Cultural Tier 3 armor and that one the Elementalist trainers are wearing…smoking hot. Also I would like to say, the dungeon armors are so friggin ugly with exception to nightmare and arah but only light versions.
