Here is my take on Raids. I have done a few of them but the time requirement in finding enough players, making sure everyone is on a profession that is needed and if needed teaching them mechanics. That alone is a huge investment and its just something I don’t want and avoid.
I spend most of my time in Fractals and there is a reason for that. The newer ones provide a very good challenge and its very easy to get into and attempt them. Be it with new players or vets and learning them in a 5 man group is more lenient and relaxed. There is a reason why WoW added Looking For Raid. A huge portion of the game found it too cumbersome/time consuming to do them. Then the moment LFR was added it became much more accessible for all of the population. It was probably one of the biggest changes the game made that kept a huge portion of the game.
The reason why GW2 has a divided response with raids is simple. GW2 at its core is a pick up and play casual game. Any player can go hardcore but in terms of difficulty the game didn’t have it. A lot of players started asking for harder open world events and slowly Anet added some(Marionette, Tower of Nightmares).
Then some people started tossing around the idea of Raids with them being for large groups since the game has always been around community. Then the moment it was found out that raids were 10 man is the moment the elitest mindset came back. And true to its nature that is why we now have this huge divide.
One side will say raids are content for the hardcore and keeps them playing and others will say raids are content that a huge portion of the game isn’t doing so its wasted dev time. My take on it is this: I did not start playing GW2 with raids in mind. I know a lot of us came here cause Anet was going to do MMO’s there way and not the traditional way and I was down with that. Then they add raids how they have been in every other game and with that all the problems/issues they inherently have. They did not put there own take on it with the community in mind. So now we have this huge divide that is not going to go away anytime soon.
Final thoughts: I like the idea of harder encounters. If raids could scale to 5 man I would dive hard into them and enjoy them. They would be more appealing at that point cause it wouldn’t be a chore or a hassle. I imagine a lot of players would also start doing them if they were 5 man.
The problem we have is Anet doesn’t think long term with anything they add. How many groups will stop doing the older raids when new ones come out? How will new players even attempt them when so many groups already refuse them? This problem is only going to get worse and its really sad. If they designed raids from the start with scaling in mind it would be content that is accessible to a huge portion of the game and that’s how ALL content should be. But they did not do that so we’re stuck with what we have.
You need to either: Add patch notes with what you did so everyone knows or you need to completely pull the changes. For a company so worried about doing market shock waves and as a player who does A LOT of trading on the TP this change is completely ridiculous.
Opened around 200 bags and nothing thus far. I also would like some confirmation if its bugged or not.
Was doing teq and once done downloaded the new patch and then my necro no longer had HoT progress.
Another bug that I think goes along with this is some sort of lag/dc bug. I will zone into a map and I will have no lag issues but if I take damage/zone/join a different instance of that map within 1-2 minutes of being there my connection to that server will be dead and the only fix is to re-log. This happened when I was at teq and its happened around 10-15 times thus far and its extremely annoying because I literally can’t do anything.
I hope to god they don’t ever raise the AP cap. There is no point to it other than bigger numbers. Yes, you have players who play for only AP and nothing else. Do those players really add that much to the game? Also what is the point of AP? To kick out newer players who don’t have thousands upon thousands of AP? Right now we already have people kicking others for low AP because they haven’t played for 3 years. I just see this as someone who is on the higher end of AP wanting to stay on the higher end.
In a player driven economy, the demand of an item surpassing the supply generated by the playerbase will increase the value of it. While there are some items in these bags that are not based around cosmetics (the low drop rate of T6 mats), the price of these bags is directly relative to the cosmetic value that is being placed on them. While currently profitable, that profit is derrived directly from other players and their willingness to play a higher price. In essence, this is a transfer of wealth not wealth generation.
As far as this specific spawn of ambients is concerned, it’s definatly one of the faster ones to farm. As long as the playerbase is willing to pay for that item, and the demand remains higher than the supply, it will be profitable. This is not an exploit, it’s the playerbase saying “thank you for farming this, because we didn’t want to”.
Can’t say I’m surprised at that response. Most players did the dungeon like normal but a very small percentage got lucky and found out about this before they did it. Now they get to reap the rewards while everyone else is out of luck. In Anet’s eyes it must be deemed okay since its not everyone using it but just a few players. Ignore the fact they get to make massive bank on it while everyone else is basically out of luck.
Anet has already shown they don’t really like to give everyone a even playing field, be it this patch or past ones. Either remove the critters the first time you enter or give us a option to re-play it. If you deem this as a non exploit then we all should have the chance to do it.
If they make “raids”, I suggest to Arena.net to don’t make them with a fixed number of people. While doing them with friends or guild, it would be sad to let someone behind because “we can’t take more people”.
I really hope Anet understands this. Guild Wars 2 has always been about scaling events and allowing as many people as possible to participate in a boss fight. I know raids won’t be open content like the rest of the bosses, but most guilds can have hundreds of players or numbers in the double digits.
If Anet learns anything about raiding then don’t make raids for a specific number of players. You have guilds with hundreds of members, and even more with smaller numbers. Raids need to be able to scale to accommodate having either 100+ players or 10+ players. Anything less would be cutting off so many people who would want to step into the Raid scene and help bolster the number of players in the game.
My last paragraph would be the most ideal solution, but Anet will have a massive uphill battle with the game lacking a trinity system. When you have a true trinity you can make a boss fight truly engrossing and unique. With our current system you can’t really get that. The best fights in the game to ever come close to a real raid boss has been Marionette and Triple Trouble. The amount of coordination and relying on your teammates to defeat the boss is really spot on for a boss fight. So lets hope if Anet does add raids( I hope you do!) they go for the big picture and not the fast and short term.
Honestly refunds in the form of materials should be the only thing given back to the player. The horribly imbalanced material cost of a 1H vs a 2H is in such a bad place. They need to just cut the cost of a 1H legendary in half and be done with it. I know people who have already made one[a 1h legendary weapon] would then complain and want a refund, but you’ve had a legendary item for X amount of time and been able to enjoy/flaunt it off.
Legendary weapons were never hard to get, just the huge cost of a precursor is the only thing that stopped most people from having one. Ever wonder why you see so many 2H legendaries? They don’t get ripped off with the material cost, they get all their stats for 1 set. Whereas people who dual wield need to pay twice the amount to get all the stats. How in the hell is that fair? Its not, and it needs to be fixed. Someone will complain either way, but at least when the materials are cut in half it will finally be the way it should be.
So, while you guys are replying to this topic, is there any chance of addressing the MASSIVE difference in crafting a 1H vs 2H when it comes to Legendary weapons? For the cost of a 1H Legendary, I can make a 2H one and get all the stats, whereas I need 2 1H’s to make up the difference.
Example of the disparity:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Incinerator
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Twilight
They are the same materials bar unique items like instance tokens/flavor items, but if I wanted to make 2 Incinerators I have to get all those materials twice. How is that fair? Do you guys wonder why we see so many Legendary Greatsword’s everywhere, and so few of the 1H types? During the Marionette I seen the Legendary Pistol for the first time in my whole time playing GW2, and my server is Full.
I figure if you guys ever address this problem it will be when you implement precursor crafting, cause I really don’t want to be punished again for making 1H precursors instead of a 2H. If I have to do double the materials for those also then I will just be truly amazed and saddened.

I don’t know why you guys are just now crying about the Gem Store. I’ve played GW2 since release and have been telling you guys this since it came out. Making unique sets/items for the gem store is fine, but is has been broken for a very long time. You see how many items are SEVERELY overpriced? 1000 gems for unlimited gathering tools? That’s about $11-14. Yes, for a GATHERING TOOL. And you guys are losing your mind about today’s update to finally complain? You guys really need to open your eyes and look how hard they disrespect and milk their player base. I just wonder how long til we see unique legendary weapon/armor skins in the gem store.
Taken straight from the patch notes:
The Antitoxin Injected indicator is a representation of the amount of antitoxin that has been pumped into the heart of the tower by the heroes of Tyria and will update periodically.
Get rid of Mad King says or severely alter it. Its the only reason why its stupid. You have so much power with those abilities that it makes the whole thing no fun.
I’ve spent a lot of time in many online community games. Over the years I’ve been drawn to the forums to present my own cases or see what people have to say about things. I know a thing or two about complaint threads and what a pain it is to see people always B——ing about things. However I also feel that these threads need to be made, good or bad, because it CAN bring about good change.
With that in mind: this is…. a complaint thread…
Since this Halloween event started, I’ve heard soooooo many complaints about the content we’ve been presented with this year. Let me list a few:
No historical achievements available
No previous year rewards available
No previous year gemstore content available
Ridiculous requirements for Hween weapon crafting
More RNG-reward based weapons.
Far fewer candy corn nodes (cheap explanation as well)
No new clocktower rewards/achievementsGood Luck People, Happy Halloween
While I do agree on the RNG and the completely insane requirements for crafting, I think you are just upset you can’t get any of the stuff from last year. I know its hard to accept, but you missed it. They want the game to be a living world and go forward, not relive the same event over and over.
Also on the gemstore lacking items, the event is ONE DAY OLD. Last year they released the content over time during the event. The event is going to be here for 4 weeks. Judging the event right now is just showing how easily you cry instead of waiting to see what happens. If you want to voice your complaints and issues I would wait til the end of the event when we can finally see everything the event has. Til then all I can say is think about what you’re posting before you do it.
From what I remember you’d get 7 tricks or treat bags for finishing it last year, so…
100% false. I don’t know how many bags you got from chest 1/2, but the 3rd chest would give 7 and the final one would be 9. So they HEAVILY nerfed it for this year. You’re lucky if you get 10 on a full chest run.
To be fair, they can’t make it TOO cheap or it’d crash the market for 20 slot bags. (Although it’s worth noting that basically everybody used Fractal Relics to get their 20 slot bags anyway…) Still, I’d rather that the 20 slot bags were made easier to get (say, 1000 – 5000 candy corn, which is a hefty amount, but still doable), and then restricted to one per character (if 5000) or account (1000).
I don’t understand your post at all. The event is here for 4 weeks, so where is the harm in having 20 slot bags be around or lower than 10g? That won’t crash the market at all. People will be able to get a 20 slot bag, the game won’t get mass amounts of hate like its doing, and players might actually talk positive about the game a little. Right now its just showing the ignorance of Anet.
