How can we be entirely sure that this is a visual bug? Now that ANET is calculating if for us and it is being displayed in the UI, the MF number displayed should be static considering boosters, sigils, and banners. ANET should allow us access to drop tables for accountability sake considering we now have visual access to our MF numbers and the variances in what we see.

MF by the numbers. Lets start the test.

@ frye.

The many variables are indeed controls to the experiment. The more data we will be able establish outliers. The outliers will acount for data that is either extremely lucky or unlucky or false reports. We will also be able to establish an approximate DR threshold. Remember, MF does not effect the quantity of drops it effects the quality. So time is only a measure for DR. Going to the bathroom will not effect the drops data only DR data which is fine.

The reason I ask for party size, type of DPS if single or aoe, and time spent is to establish different upper and lower limit values. Our stats guys on the forum would have a blast.

An experiment is just what it is. And what I want to determine is what is luck, what is typical, and what is unlucky for specific ranges of MF. Such as 0 to 50, 51 to 100, 101 to 150, 151 to 200, and 201 to 250.

I will post the format of posting the data this evening. So we can standardize the process.

Remember let’s keep this civil, on topic, and full of subjective and objective discussion.

MF by the numbers. Lets start the test.

Hi. There is a lot of speculation about the impact MF has on drops. I want to start this thread in hopes to validate a few pieces of the MF puzzle.

I know there are a lot of advanced stats folks here so we have the talent for that. We also have a lot of skeptics that will provide the objections needed to improve the test. Most importantly we have the pool of volunteers needed to gather the numbers.

Here are the conditions for the test.

1. Any amount of MF is acceptable for the test. Just state hoe much you have.
2. The location is Pent/Shelt/Jofast area is Orr.
3. Farm events and the time waiting between events.
4. Any duration of time is acceptable
5. Any build is acceptable just state your main DPS weapon.
6. Party size.
7. Record on the hour the total # of drops, drops by rarity, mats, unidentified dyes.
8. Server and if peak time or not

I will be starting this evening. I hope to get good participation.

Absolutely glassy. It just requires the timing of having EVERYTHING on cool down to survive. Just face it, skilled HGH players are beating other mindless OP builds. Therefore if skill is beating mindless OP builds then there must be something wrong…….Not likely…

@ Kelly.

Your rational is supported by nothing than a blanket statement. Look at all the patch notes on nerfs. ANET does a good job of explaining what was not intended or was an exploit that was creating an unfair advantage.

Anet is looking at the HGH build and saying that these guys are working real hard to create skill, trait, and rune synergies. These guys are playing just as we intended. There is nothing mindlessly OP here just hundreds of
key strokes per PvP match and skill.

Bottom line, no nerf coming to HGH. Thank-you ANET for looking at the HGH build and the many variations of it and acknowledging that these are skillfully played builds.

The difference between the HGH build and all other OP builds from all classes that have been nerfed is the HGH does not exploit anything. All skills, runes, and sigils are in synergy. Name one facet of the build that is an exploit or an unintended use. You can’t.

The difference here is everything is in use. Two maxed out trait lines. All skills and tool skills on cool down almost all the time. Constant swapping. It is a lot of work to have high damage and it is at the extreme cost of survival.

Other builds that have been nerfed class wide have been nerfed due to unintended advantages and exploits. This is clearly not the case for the HGH build.

There is no way this build should be nerfed.. A pro HGH engi essentially needs to play the piano through the whole match. This is not just button mashing but using elixers in a certain pattern based on the scenerio. There are many other classes with optimal builds and player skill that take down HGH engies all the time.

Bottom line is the HGH build is powerful, but only as powerful as the skill of the player. There are many other mindless builds that other classes utalize that are OP compared to the skill required with HGH.

Try playing the HGH build before you cry about it. It’s not just mashing buttons its composing and that is why it should not be nerfed.

Just because u have lost to it does not state it is OP.

How would a FT build get 18 stacks of might without HGH. I can see a constant 9 to 13 but 18 I just can’t see. Yes, there are other traits that could make up for some lost might like the deadly mixtures where u get 15% more damage.

I guess the real question is for the OP is, what trait lines make the flame thrower the most viable. Of course this is subjective.

One way to still show a title and remove the clutter at the same time is to simply add an icon in its place. This will work just like the map completion icon next to the names. This solution is probably simple to implement considering they have done already with completing the map.

On Yaks Bend I am in warlords of the mists. We are a 500 person guild and ran tier 3 bounty with roughly 70 people. It was so well managed by the leader and the general. Each time a champ was found per team. A way long was pinged with the direction from it. Those on the team for that map had roughly 20 seconds before the fight was triggered. Once that boss was done we would waypoint to the next team that needed help. Was a very smooth event and guild management was on top of it.

I personally don’t like this “log in daily, if you want xyz” either. So I agree with the TO.

Again, a blanket statement that provides opinion without comments to substantiate it.

The fallacy of your logic is you negate to mention that item “xyz” can be achieved by logging in on any day which is not “daily”.

It is the sum of the optional daily achievement rewards obtained over time. Therefore this who complete the daily achievements casually such as one a week or those who do them everyday can receive the exact same rewards for their efforts.

The efford is to log in daily, it’s not that if you DO more – you get more it’s that you have to do it regularly every 24 hours or it doesn’t count for the laurel. Also it would be awesome if you could read my second post too before blaming me. As well I’m stating a personal opinion which should be allowed in a public forum, isn’t it?

Sure stating your opinion is fine. However in an environment where a debate is in place your opinion by itself without defense of it is worthless.

It’s like if I only respond to peoples posts by saying " you are wrong". I am entitled to that opinion but without defense it is poor for a debates sake.

Back on topic..

Please read the definitions for “optional” and “achievement”. Put the two together and apply it to laurels, dailies, and Monthlys. Redefine your parameters to succeed in the game and finally be happy with it.

Uncle salty I hear what you are saying and please correct me if i don’t completely understand.

What you are suggesting is a system that allows people who put in 1/3 of the time to earn the same reward as those who put in 3/3 of time. Or are u sugsting a system where if an achievement takes roughly 2 hours to tackle you allow more than one day to do it. Thus time spent is the same but the time is spread out.

If you are suggesting the later I would not mind seeing a truncated monthly type achievement which we can call a “weekly”. These would be a little more difficult than a daily and provide 1 or 2 laurels.

I hear what you are saying tobias and I can’t disagree that people are entitled to their feelings.

Now the bigger question is are the feelings on par for the parameters for success. Well parameters for success are established at. Two levels. The first level is the parameters set by ANET that specifically define what you need to accomplish to be rewarded. The second parameter is a subjective one that is defined by the player. Most often in a healthy mind set the end user will need to create new parameters for successes when the more static parameters, ANets, are not easily manipulated.

This being said, everyone is in charge of their own happiness. Happiness in guild wars can be obtained, on an individual basis, by determining the most rational and realistic parameters for success.

Are laurels really the carrot that makes players feel they need to grind out content they would not normally do. Or is it the unrealistic and irrational perception that these carrots are the key to success in guild wars. Well that depends on the players parameters.

What is the problem here. Laurels are optional. Dailies and Monthlys are optional achievements. Those players that have the most time to commit to the game have a higher probability of being able to complete achievements because of the time they have.

Laurels can be used for many things and cater to all types of players. Look at item’s you can buy.

I’m sick of all this crying about the rewards obtained through achievements. Go look at the definition of achievements. What part of the definition states that the rewards from achieving come easily?

Should we call the English professors of America to change the definition so people who want to put in minimal to an intermediate amount of effort can achieve the same as those who put in a copious amount.

I graduated summa kitten laude and was awarded the highest honors in college. I put in time, time, and more time for this achievement. Should those who received C’s for their efforts be rewarded the same? I think not because I would not have tried as hard as I did.

For real. Look up the definition of achievement and analyze what is the appropriate reward for your time and effort compared to others who play.

As the fractal level increases the probability of better loot increases. This has been stated multiple times. The fractals become more challenging and a higher level of skill is required. This is enjoyable when 4 other of your guildies are skilled. Even if I don’t get a great loot drop I still love when a guildie hits the jack pot.

I run 30/0/20/20/0. Elixer u, elixer gun, nades, pistol, pistol. I use the sigils that stack power and that provide 3 might on weapon swap every 9 seconds. I also use apothecary armored to keep my heals and vitality high. I use condition trinkets to take advantage of switching weapons every 10 seconds.

You must swap constantly to take advantage of all of your skills. Trait your power line with bleeds. Swap swap swap. You will do so much damage while you stack bleeds, vulnerability, cripples, poisons, weakness, and blinds. You will also put out great heals over time with the elixer gun.

This is my build. I spec for power but I still increase my conditions with trinkets. This way my conditions last long while putting out medium damage ticks per second but I also hit hard on the DPS side.

Remember to always swap every 10 seconds. With dodges, my tools, and weapons, I am at around 30 weapon or dodge based key strokes in 30 seconds.

Engis to be a great class requires a lot of key strokes.

All hard work is rewarded. Stop looking for the instant gratification. Run the dailies until u get a ring. You will end up getting one, that is the way probabilities work. 1 : the act of achieving : ACCOMPLISHMENT 2 a : a result gained by effort b : a great or heroic deed 3 : the quality and quantity of a student’s work.

The above definition is taken directly from Webster’s dictionary. There is nothing about the definition that states a task was done with ease. For all of those people who claim the achievement is to hard, well maybe ANET needs to create a different monthly achievement that follows a different definition. Maybe we can call it " monthly cake walk".

For those of you who do not like the monthly achievement just read the definition.

Very reasonable. It offers just the right amount of challenge. When was a ch challenge ever easy? Should monthly’s be anything other than challenging. This is why it is called a monthly. It defines what should be able to be completed in approximately a month. When they put the WvW kills requirements in I know that is harder task for me because I am a pver. But, I say to myself, “this is a monthly achievement, why should it be easy.”

I like when ANET makes me explore other aspects of this game and rewards me for going out of my comfort zone.

Keep up the good work ANET. I am a very happy customer.

I ran AC twice. First time the team failed quickly. Although our squad was filled with skilled guildies we quickly realized our team set up was to squishy and we had a few tions that were leveling and in masterwork gear.

Later that day we formed another guild group and we took our lvl 80’s in exotc gear. We brought a shout heal warrior and a healing guardian, a mesmer, necro, and me the power, heal engi. With no problem cleared path 1 and 2 explorable in 45 minutes. Not a speed run by any means.

It is based on the groups skill, team build and took builds. It was certainly harder than pre patch but we adjusted.

Nothing better than a new challenge.

I can see this functionality being correct for melee mobs but for ranged mobs to become invulnerable is just not correct. Please fix. If mobs can attack us we must be able to attack them.
