I didnt even get too fight or EVEN SEE the actual dragon, just entered its mind and for some reason i overpowered it in its own realm. Even Zhaitan was better than this. The story was extremely short and it was mostly about taking care of the emotionally unstable members of Destiny’s Edge again… I didnt like this at all. I hope living story will be better.

I only plan to use this function if it will work with my microsoft xbox 360 controller. Can someone from anet confirm if there will be compatibility? Seems kinda pointless to implement this feature if not.

You dont want to go up against in pvp players with gaming mouse with actual skill. Well, i wouldnt. To be honest i dont think the controller could handle the ammount of abilities and other stuff you can do anyways.

as someone who doesn’t PvP or WvW, I’m underwhelmed as hell.

the big profession mechanic is utterly useless in PvE unless there is someone dying nearby, and the elite is purely a PvP ability considering how insanely situational stealth is in PvE for non-thieves.

consider that for the elite mechanic revenants get a new legend, necros get a new death shroud, mesmers get to save-scum, and thieves get a third dodge, the ability to rez/finish someone at range is so situational outside of PvP that unless HoT adds a LOT of finishable enemies like the toxic alliance, it may as well not exist.

It is because pve right now is laughable at best. 5 man dungeons are about might stacking aoe-ing and skipping mobs optionally with aoe stealth. World events are pure pewpew. Higher level fractals are somewhat better but still mostly pewpewpew with might stacks. You might find the new spec’s utilities useful in raids.

Btw kind of new mechanics are expected too in pve. For example in Stronghold you need to finish off the pve boss like you would do a normal player in pvp. You might need to do that in certain scenarios in the pve content too, then your stomping drone will be very useful. It all comes down to what new things arenanet packs into expansion’s pve. This spec could be the absolute counter to some specific situations. Remember that GW2 is not about having a universal build for everything.

Id be happy if they in some way make possible to track cooldowns on action bars you cant actually see. For example being able to see the cooldown of a recharging ability in Fire attunement while being in Water attunement at the moment.

What? I want my engineer to look more like Shepard from Mass Effect but i wont quit because they wont add space guns in the expansion. Lol. This is Guild Wars and eles have nothing to do with that silly cartoon. Did you know you could have everything in one build?… You have no idea how annoying and overwhelmingly frustrating can be a skilled ele in teamfights and wvw. And it can stack might for you in dungeons – since thats the only thing that matters beside good aoe capability there but thats another story.

Sigh here we go again.

1. Don’t preorder if you don’t want to.

2. If you play gw2 and enjoy it your going to buy it.

3. Before gw2 came out they didn’t go over every single event and map, they won’t do that for expansion either.

4. They aren’t trying to get YOU to preorder. They are targeting a base majority of the players. I preordered happily because $50 isn’t much and I’ll play it.

Did you even look at my original post? I asked them how many new legendaries we were getting. I feel that is a reasonable thing to ask before i slap money down. These threads don’t need to stop. What needs to happen is ArenaNet being more transparent with what we are spending our money on. I’m not asking for story beats or spoilers. I am asking what the breadth of the content of this x-pac is to determine if it’s worth my money.

thing you need to realize is that this expansion is basically a season pass to all new content coming out.

if you don’t buy it, you’ll be limited to holiday content for new content.

look at GW1
look at DDO
look at basically any game with expansions

GW2 gave more content for its vanilla game than other games give with 3 or MORE expansions.
and it doesn’t charge monthly

plus its given alot of new content like livign world season 1 and 2, karka event, and more! which any other game would have charged you for.

all of this…for the price of GW2… its hard to believe the ammount of content

and now a pay for expansion comes. if you aren’t a greedy kitten, you’ll buy the expansion for no other reason than Anet has given you so much content for the vanilla game.
even if you don’t play it, you should buy it cause look how much free bonus content the devs have given you since you bought the vanilla game.

the expansion will be plenty large, and we can expect more content following it, which will be largely limited to people who bought the expansion.

in total, the ammount of content you’ve been given in this game thus far is equal to 5-6 expansions in other games..

About the vanilla content after launch. Yeah, thats not going to happen after HoT release again. They told in one of the interviews it wasnt going well. Thats why they needed to conform somewhat to other mmo-s (making expansion). You probably wont get any major update before the second expansion, they admitted the living story wasnt a good way. It would be nice to know what exactly this expansion features. Zones, new specs, big pve challenge stuff, improvements to story mode and such. The info is coming. Painfully slowly. I think there is just no way HoT is going to be released this year. They hide too much of the content – because a lot of it might only be just plans at the moment im afraid. Or they just dont know how to generate hype.

Asura race already has the golem utility, you dont even need to be an engineer. Correct me if i am wrong but i made an asura elementalist in the beta and i could transfrom into a golem (getting inside to be precise i think i summoned it and its usable by allies) with one of its elite ability. So yeah, either charrcopter or charrmobile or no deal! I think the elite will be the drones anyway.

No, it wont be raid. There is one simple rule: you dont compete with WoW.

I bought the expansion at a full game’s price – yeah a i got an extra character slot i wont use, thanks very much, worth it… I hope i didnt buy a cheaper version of WoW. Raids by Arenanet would just remind me of how Blizzard is a 100x better at making actual hardcore instanced group content.

Its funny how they cant even show pictures from the zones – they cant even tell how many new zones are being made let alone their names. They announced it more than a half year ago. I mean look at Legion, the new expansion for WoW, announced at Gamescom recently. I already know like 20x times more about it after watching an hour announcement presentation than about HoT after checking every update on guildwars2.com + announcement at pax. I dont even know how the elite spec is going to look like for my prof, lol, i didnt expect this in january.

You are getting emotional. A nerf is unfortunately inevitable anyway but if it doesnt come with the next beta try another build, you might find the mobs 10x easier to deal with. But pls, lets be serious, whats happening in VB is far from what you can call a “challange”. Difficulty might not be ideal for someone who tries doing 100% map completion between midnight and dawn i give you that. That person seriously needs to turn off the television and stop eating snacks while playing .

Arenanet, this is absurd! I cant kill the mobs with the autoattack “i win” button. I can do that in every zone. Pls nerf this content to the ground – to the level of other zones. Plspls, this is very hard!! Im so afraid what is going to happen after 1 year when im out there alone in the jungle. This cant be right, i actually have to dodge enemies?? Really?? The skill cap is just way too much as it is already, pls nerf the jungle plspls.

Engineer or Thief?

Just go for whatever is the closest match to what celestial rifle build was in case of engineer. Your best weapon is still rifle with healingturret+grenades+tool kit+elixir s utilities. Since condition damage was buffed since the big patch back in June, the condi build is (i think) more viable than before. Then use pistol+shield with these same utilities.

For traits the best place to look for is metabattle.com. But keep in mind that the builds there are good for pve as they are (since it comes down to simple math – doing max dps) in pvp its better to customize them.

When i see action bar abilities bound to 6 7 8 or 9 on the keyboard on a screenshot i get the “mobs are hard to fight?… there you have it” feeling. Do any of the people who think mobs are hard actually bound abilities to for example QERFYXC or to something close to WASD? Since you probably use that for movement. No? There you have it.

I saw a post of a player who was playing revenant and thought the healing tablet should move automatically with the player because his/her fingers are a column always off to keep moving it (deafult healing is key 5). He/She takes the trophy.

(note: if you use only 0,1,2,3,Q,E,R,F,GY,X,C,V and these with ctrl/shift combination you can have 39 comfortably reachable hotkey(combos) in close proximity to wasd not counting w/a/s/d+shift/ctrl or any key with alt).

What I want in HOT:

1) Enemies that give you an actual challenge as seen with the current mobs in VB.
2) Encourages parties/ grouping
3) Encourages more than just pressing 1111111111 or the “stacking in a corner” meta I know most of us are tired of

What I don’t want in HOT:
1)Faceroll content. If you’re gonna add a challenge, give one.
2) One class trumps all. The last thing I need is the toxic “no ‘insert class’” we’ve seen in LFG’s for the past few years.
3)Elitism. Those people can stay in old Tyria speed running dungeons for all I care.

I’m good with the mobs kicking my kitten.

In your “dont want” list the 2. eliminates those elitists from the 3.. However, they are not really elitists but time efficient gold farmers. There is no pve elitism, hell there is no even pvp elitism in this game except for the tournament players promoted by arenanet itself.

(note: Nope, fractal high levels dont count for elitist activity, check out WoW challange modes and mythic raids to get reference of what real elitist pve difficulty is. This message is not for you, CodeHavoc.)

I dont know about that “challenging group content” arenanet is so afraid to even reveal… but the difficulty of the common mobs in the new zones are a good start to what you want and i agree with you. More healthy elitism!

An interesting experiment. Say ANet leaves the difficulty substantially as is. Will those claiming they want such difficulty still want it six months after launch? In other words, will the harder mobs provide longevity in and of themselves, meaning (some) players will repeat the fights over and over and over just because it’s fun? Or, will there have to be reward incentives that keep the content vital until such time as it’s been farmed out? So far, the latter is the state of the game, but the former represents ANet’s vision.

People complain because they individually get owned by the mobs. I expect Verdant Brink will be probably just as faceroll as any other zone when the events get going and the zergtrain starts. The main and probably mostly cosmetic rewards will be from events anyway. The mainstream activity will still be casualfest, there is nothing to worry about for those people. At least in the meantime you wont get bored to death if you want to reach a vista or something when you are alone because the mobs can punch hard.

I think ideally, mobs should vary a bit based on location.
I really don’t understand the people who want every trash mob fight to be a white knuckle teeth clenching sweat dripping heart pounding fight to the death where missing a single dodge or reflect by .000000000000000000000000000001% of a second means instant death. Makes no sense to me…

You exaggerate. There are nasty situations, yeah but there was no such hardcoreness you are describing. If you want to collect your daily powerful blood there are plenty of kindergarten zones around. This zone is about fighting a desperate fight in the jungle and you probably should not pull more mobs if you are alone and not equipped with the proper build to do so. (have some condi cleansing, stun breaking, invisibility, blocks, etc)

As a celestial engineer (i know there is no such meta anymore, still) i found it extremely difficult to get yourself killed and the ammount of hp the mobs have is mostly not out of place. I havent died once even when rushing trough packs of mobs to get to certain locations. (you have 15-30 or whatever abilities, lol, use them) As meditation dps guardian with berserker gear i really had to watch out for the aoe damage marks on ground and for the abilities made to be dodged. Overall: it feels good to do pve again. 5 man dungeon gold farming, daily fractal run and world boss killing is getting really old and never was challanging, this semi-challenging content is a good substitute.

Whats up with the snipers? The only dangerous things are enemy specific special abilities. Charges, raptor leaps and the rest, a nice and refreshing list compared to the enemies in the other lvl80 boring zones. This is a maximum level expansion zone, the mobs are supposed to surprise you. There is a reason you have wasd on your keyboard and the ability to dodge and those nice utility skills + being able to change key bindings.

Too many people are complaining about difficulty, unfortunately and eventually Arenanet will nerf it under the ground. Finally i actually had to use my dodge outside dungeons, i had to interrupt mobs not jut mass murder everything with the usual boring ability rotation like in any other zones. It is fun, different enemies do different things and you need to react quickly. I guess you didnt dodge/interrupt/los (getting out of the line of his sight – hiding behind something) the sniper’s ability when you had target on your head, didnt move away before the “mordrem triceratops” charged you, didnt aoe at little raptors, etc. These are not elitist things to do in this action oriented game. I sincerely hope Arenanet wont listen to you. Finally “outdoor pve” is not mindless aoe farming.

The problem is the framerate fluctuation at certain locations. If you look towards places where there is a lot to render at the same time it simply kills my laptop. Nowhere else happens this except for Silverwastes/Dry Tops. Please dont make the same mistakes with the expansion’s maps. My framerate in Verdant Brink – just like in the mentioned 2 zones – ranges between 9 to 50 (!) fps out of combat (no combat effects interfering) just while looking around.

In the places i get around 10 fps decreasing the resolution to the btw unaccaptable 1024×768 i get a maximum of 2 fps increase. Something is seriously wrong about the new zones you are making. No, its not just the smoke. I know someone will post everything is fine with an i7 processor, 16 gigs of ram and 2 vga-s in their pc but yeah…

On the new maps the ammount of mesh you actually see seems to affect performance heavily, much more than in the original zones. I dont know why is that and i dont know arenanet gets the feedback or even cares :S.

Im planning on buying a gaming desktop pc anyway because of other games, but id still want to be able to play it on my laptop which could handle the original game without struggle.

It plays like a ranger it even has the traps like the ranger. It is a ranger. Period… Holy Trapper Ranger spec maybe? Or Holy Ranger without Pet spec? Or Holy Hunter? Dragon Hunter sounds cool, unfortunately it has nothing to do with what the elite spec feels like.

I do find the HoT areas are quite overwhelming for lower-spec machines, though I haven’t had a chance to try it on my gaming machine.

I agree. Having no problem on my tower, but serious issues on my laptop.

I think the main problem is the smoke.

It might be the crashed smoking pact ship at the middle of the area. I think everything is rendered with the same detail regardless of distance and everytime you look into the ship’s direction (when you are not in the cave because in those the “outside world” is not seem to be rendered) it blows the laptop. The most demanding effect in the game is smoke indeed in general btw.

edit: No, its not the ship and the smoke. Regardless of the ship’s direction framerate drops when i look toward certain big open areas. Same thing with Silverwastes. Even if i look at cliffs there with nothing more than desert plains between me and them the framerate dies. Lion’s Arch is new and this does not happen there.

Same thing here. Looking in certain directions in VB where you can see very far fps drops. Some places it bounces between 10 and 70, totally unplayable right now.

The beta map – just like Silverwastes and Dry Tops – seems to have bigger view distance than the older zones. I can play around 60 fps in any zone but in Verdant Brink if i can see far in the distance (nothing blocks view before me) the fps often drops to 10-20. I hope you guys at arenanet are planning to make a view distance scale. The lower end should be closer than currently and the higher end should be further. A lot of people already want this feature to be able to increase the view distance for their beast machine.

I dont know if optimization is still underway, this fps difference in new zone just seems pretty drastic now, not what id expect from an expansion. I thought the Living Story zones were crp because you had no time for optimization.

Hi!

I play on lowest graphical settings (except for textures, animations on high and shadows on medium). The new scale of field of view is set on “deafult”, anything less than that is virtually unplayable. I dont play WvW, on a very player heavy Jormagg or Tequatl fight i have between 20-30 fps and everywhere in the world or in dungeons i am above 30. Tehchnically im not because i cap it at 30 (either that or constant changes between 70 and 30, it does not feel right to look at). I am pleased with it.

But in Silverwasted or Dry top the fps drops significantly in certain areas looking at certain directions. I think it is the view distance. I did not notice in any zone view distance changing but in the 2 new zones it is and depending on the actual v. d. fps can drop below 10 fps which is totally unplayable. Someone might tell me he/she did not notice this but please dont say anything like that if you have 2 video cards in your machine… Difference between 200 and 190 fps does not matter, i know, and its easily missed.

What i am interested in is if the zones in the expansion will be like these 2 zones, or if these 2 specific zones are known fps killers, and the only reason is they did not have enough time to optimize it. If the jungle zones will be like that in Heart of Thorns it will be a deal breaker for me and i will not buy it. I have more fps on a Claw of Jormagg fight than while staring at a cliff in Silverwastes…

Geforce GT 520MX – 1 GB
Intel Core i5 processor
4 GB RAM system memory

Requirements lab says the minimum is:
2 GB RAM
256 MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3 CPU

Dont forget i play on low settings. Except if the minimum stands for 800×600 resolution.

Installer freezes the computer

CPU is not overclocked. I tried the installer in network safe mode, same, blue screen. Funny thing is, i installed the game a few weeks ago but i deleted for “reasons”, nothing was wrong and now the installing it freezes the whole kitten computer. I already submitted a ticket about it and sent arenanet/ncsoft the data from the gw2.exe -diag thing. I checked memory and hard drive, both are fine. Drivers up to date. I really dont know what else i can do.

EDIT: its not network card bluescreening because of too much data trasfer. When GW2 launcher downloaded, it was going with max 5 mbyte/s before quick zero-ing and freeze, and i just downloaded Diablo 3 with Blizzard launcher with constant 10 mbyte/s bandwith. With the same cable connection – ethernet.

At a random point downloading the game the download speed reduces to 0mb/s, at that point there is a tearing in cursor movement, and the keyboard and mouse buttons become unresponsive. In matter of minutes i get the “windows shut down to prevent damage” blue error screen. I uninstalled the game, and tried again but this same thing happens again. Now im at the point that about 80% of the game is downloaded but as soon as i open the game launcher, the download speed reaches 0 in seconds, tearing cursor movement etc, and freeze.
