Toypocalypse Cancelled. How we did it!

we just built a bunch of catapults and walls around the outer edge of the center area. you can also build catapults outside the center on the hills, surround them with walls to distract the toys. also putting a catapult in the maze is a very good distraction for the toys since they will run through the entire thing to get to the catapult.

unfortunately I found that you are at the mercy of the AI on Toxx in deciding whether or not you finish with all dolyak alive. the last group I was in was heading to victory by a very comfortable margin when Toxx showed up and ran directly to one of the dolyak to kill it. it completely ignored everyone else and our attempts to distract it and we ended up killing Toxx half a second after it killed the dolyak.

It needs to be made permanent, in a game that is severely lacking in distractions that don’t involve hitting things in the head the bell choir is very welcome. just don’t put it in lions arch, give it to one of the other cities so people will actually go to them, or give each city its own version of the game.

you are at least getting loot from earlier waves and the other mobs in the dungeon right? I have been in there every day and the only thing I have seen are 4 gifts, 2 whites, and about 10 cogs, the majority of mobs in there don’t drop loot at all for me.

I don’t personally think the travel costs are that bad since when I go to a zone I stay until I make my money back, and its only about 4 silver to travel from one end of the map to the other. I do however agree with others that travel to your home city should be free (but not free to go to LA) just because they are ghost towns most of the time, it seems such a waste so see all those empty places.

Q) why would someone ask if an npc merchant is going to be in the game if they didn’t want to know if it would be functional?

A) they wouldn’t.

its like asking if a shop is going to be open on monday, being told yes, getting there and finding it is open but you aren’t allowed to buy anything. in this situation the person who answered the question did so correctly, the shop is indeed open, but they completely failed to understand why the question was asked in the first place.

but then we don’t know why the npc was disabled, I think its because they don’t want people to get keys from her, but its entirely possible they just forgot to turn it back on again.

so what the dev told us was true, from a certain point of view.

D:

no, i think when the person in the other thread asked if she would be there it was obvious that they were asking if they could use the commendations, not if the npc would actually physically be there. asking if an npc merchant is going to be in the game is the same as asking if you can buy stuff from that merchant, and you would have to be quite dumb to misunderstand that question.

why did they disable it? could have conflicted with some other event around LA I suppose, they could even have disabled it for the start of the event and just forgotten to reactivate it. But the most likely answer is because she sells keys and anet want people to buy them with real money. I expect keys to be removed when she is selling stuff again, I don’t like it, but i expect it.

The Princess Dolls are Mesmers, what class are the Ventari toys? I’m not looking forward to Necros…

why? if they are anything like we are they should be easy, don’t go in with boons on and just wait for them to throw down their wells then step slightly to the left. now if they put in a thief toy. five or six hard as nails mobs with easy stealth and condition removal, and enough mobility that once I am in combat I cant escape, yea, I wont even bother trying if they do that.

I don’t even fight the dolls now, they are tough and don’t drop loot most of the time. the ventari toys were slightly tricky but were worth it because they dropped gifts five times more often than the skritt. honestly, if the mobs are going to get harder to beat every day I expect a better reward for my effort, as things are there are better ways to get gifts so I don’t know why i should bother.

$100 on Blacklion Keys. Not worth it.

its not like gambling, it is gambling.

honestly, i cant believe people are still spending real money on these things, sure if you have a spare couple gold around buy some gems to get a key, but not real money. its not like they even try to hide that its a gamble, it says right there that you only have a chance (and the best items are something like 0.001%), you only have yourself to blame unfortunately.

i cant say I saw any bubble but for the sake of it lets say there was. now if the reflect ability basically turns it around and pulls me towards an enemy, does that mean that if i hit someone with dark path they will be pulled to me?

spectral grasp is described as something that

“Pull your foe to you, chill them, and gain life force.”

what i understand this to mean is that i will stay where i am and my foe will come to me, like that guy in mortal combat. the other day i used it and it pulled me from where I was into a large group of enemy players, the same way dark path does. i do not use this skill anymore.

hahaha that’s fantastic! was it a guardian’s reflection wall?

as far as I can tell it happened because I was standing on a on a wall. I was trying to pull the player (i think mesmer) to the walls so the group of our team standing outside could take him down, didn’t work, instead it pulled me off the wall into the enemy zerg.

Ascended gear is something new to aim for

I am lv 80, been playing since two weeks after launch and don’t even have full rare. As far as world completion goes I am on about 40%. even if I had full exotic and 100% I doubt I would be bored since there is a lot of content still left to do like dungeons, wvw, pvp or just enjoying playing with people from my guild. hitting the lv cap is not an end to the content like in other games, and if you burned through it in a week and were bored that’s your own problem for treating this like a subscription game.

ascended gear makes me feel like I have fallen behind everyone else. The idea that there may be more tiers of gear means that many people who don’t burn through the content will be forever left behind as they can never catch up. If I feel like the only way to reach the top tier is to play non stop then I simply wont try to make it there, if I don’t make it there and new content is added for the people who do get there I wont be able to see that content. Worse still is that the new gear will affect wvw, which means if I am forever falling behind I will be effectively blocked from participating in one of my favourite parts of the game due to not being able to remain competitive.

I do not enjoy gear treadmills, this is why I don’t play WoW, GW2 was advertised as not having this sort of thing which is the reason I bought it. If you want a gear treadmill go play a game that was advertised as having one, and anet if anyone is listening please make this the last time this sort of thing happens in the game.

As to the last question, I play necro and would rather the devs took a good long look at the class to fix or redo it. fixing traits/skills that don’t do anything or worse, actively hurt my experience, is more important than constantly adding new gear. It also wouldn’t hurt to fix the numerous bugs that have hit skill points and events, and the clipping and camera issues I have had in dungeons where walls and floors disappear. I also wouldn’t mind new armour sets and weapons for lower levels, not a new tier but just a new set at the same tier.

^ As I said..pretty much rewards that really are worthless and doesn’t increase your power whatsoever. Here’s an example how I see it:

Brian “Hey man! Look at my new mask, what do you think?”
Jason “Not bad, what do does it do? and how long did it take to get it?”
Brian “..Well It took me a few days and it looks awesome!”
Jason “Right..but what type of benefit does it give you? Does it increase the power of your character in any way at all?”
Brian “Well it doesn’t do anything for me at all, it’s just for cosmetic purposes, but it does look good..”
Jason “So let me get this straight, you spent a few days working on getting an item that does absolutely nothing for you at all besides making you look different?”
Brian “Yeah..I guess I did.”

Tf2 created a multi million dollar economy based entirely on cosmetic hats. for you new cosmetic rewards might seem pointless but for many millions of people they are something to look forward to getting.

I currently have deathwish, its not flashy, doesn’t have any visual effects (that I can tell), but it is a great big staff with what I like to pretend are my enemies skulls on top. kinda heavy emphasis on crits though what with the sigil of blood and everything, but I haven’t seen a staff with a look that better suits the necro yet.

if you want to solo veterans staff and scepter/horn work very well together for me, heck with that setup you can solo any melee focused champion without it ever touching you. i also use consume conditions because it lets me heal more frequently than any other skill.

some people claim that minions are great but its rare that you will find a lv 80 using them, they die very quickly (especially in dungeons) and their AI is terrible. I stopped using them around lv 30 after becoming frustrated that my shadow fiend wouldn’t attack anything, and my flesh golem was more interested in attacking the scenery.

with wvw most of the time I struggle with 1v1 situations as most classes can either quickly escape, leaving me no way to stop them, or their skills, cooldown and boons simply allow them to outlast me in a fight. other people say they can dominate in 1v1 fights but I have never seen a necro do anything but die quickly. I mostly just follow the zerg and use my marks to try and force the enemy to take a different path now.

bleeds and so on have a limit but I wouldn’t worry about that because if you are running solo you will never reach that limit anyway.

Wells Need This Change!

the main problem I have with wells is that they are so easy to avoid, don’t really have a problem with cooldown. a one second cripple or chill effect on anyone who was unlucky enough to be there when it was put down would be a welcome change. obviously anyone who enters the well after it was put down wouldn’t be exposed to the cripple/chill so i don’t think it would be too op, but then I am not an expert on these things so more knowledgeable people may say otherwise.

Necros need more source of fear

in Necromancer

Posted by: androidsheep.4271

androidsheep.4271

Also, there are times when you want fear to work the way it does now. Pushing people away from stomps and/or revives or fearing people off of cliffs and edges.

there are times when that is very useful, but tbh if I could choose between pushing someone away from a revive for 1s, the very rare occasion where I can push someone off a cliff, or reliably locking down a thief for a few seconds while I hit him with wells I know which I would pick.

maybe we shouldn’t get rid of all fear skills, but for a class that needs to keep its enemy locked down we don’t have nearly enough skills to do that effectively. just now I chased a thief halfway across a map, he was down to a tiny bit of health and then he vanished into thin air, never to be seen again. I did use fear once, but as I said all that did was help him escape, if I had a way of completely stopping him he would have been finished.

I think all this fuss about fear is because its a gimmick or something, we feel that we should have fear because it fits with the idea of being a necromancer, even though most of the time it doesn’t really fit with the way our class is supposed to play. so I stand by what I said, we need less fear not more of it.

thinking about the lich again, usually they have a phylactery (please correct me if thats not what its called) which grants the character immortality until its destroyed. I think it would be cool if when you go into lich form you put down one of those and that acts as your hit points. it could have the effect where you will be able to go charging into battle without worrying about death from the enemy in front of you, but you need to leave the phylactery unguarded to do so.

I would like the model for the lich form changed to something smaller and less like I am walking around with a large sign saying kick me. I don’t like the idea of a lich looking like the incredible hulk anyway, I don’t know if its in the lore or something but the idea of a muscle bound lich just doesn’t work for me.

all lich skills replaced with minion summon skills, so that you could have a minion army for 30 seconds. the current skills are good and all but most of them don’t really seem like the sort of thing a lich would have.

jagged horror usually only survive long enough to get one hit in before they die so why not just have them explode upon contact.

the colour of wells to be changed since I find it very difficult to tell the difference between them once they are down. and the number of times I have seen allies walking away from a well when they could really use a bit of healing I am sure they don’t often realise what it is too.

poison cloud effect to be removed from toxic cloud. I don’t even know what this is for, I have never been in a situation where I wanted to charge off a cliff at an enemy, does anyone actually use this?

Necros need more source of fear

considering that the developers see the necro as the class that you shouldn’t be able to get away from I think we really need less skills that help our enemies escape, not more. I say replace all fear abilities with a paralyzing ability, it fits with the idea of being a necromancer and it makes more sense to the way the class is apparently supposed to play.
