If it isn’t changed to be soloable by this time next week, I’m out for good.
Masteries gated behind grind is fine. Challenging content is fine, it’s awesome, even. Having skills gated behind group content with champ mobs? No. Just no.
I have a feeling that the devs have never tried to complete this content outside of running it with other devs, all of whom know the content inside out. /facepalm
I agree with you, but if this nonsense is not changed by next Friday. I will uninstall GW2 and start looking for a new MMO. be seeing you.
I play solo and I am having a terrible time trying to progress. I am giving up for now.
I am not giving up, but I feel your pain. be seeing you.
OP is obviously an Anet fanboy. be seeing you.
2 on a good day. I am looking for a new MMO. be seeing you.
OP is probably an elitist fanboy. be seeing you.
I have finally figured out the real logic behind HoT and it is sadly and simply corporate greed. Think about it. In order to “level”, one must partake in “group events”. There is not a lot of “soloing” here. Easy completion of said “group events” requires a lot of people to have purchased the game. Easier completion of said “group events” requires you to try and get people to purchase the game. Say what you want about Blizzard and their $15 dollar a month fee to play (another form of corporate greed), but at least they are up front about it. Yes friends, the real logic behind HoT is corporate greed. This is America in 2015. I would love for someone from ArenaNet to respond to this post, but they are probably too busy counting their money. They will probably simply lock the thread. be seeing you.
Think the real logic in a mmo is to play with people. Its a massive multiplayer game not a rpg. And logically a company wants to make money so nothing wrong with that. If it was “corporate greed” there would be pay to win items in the gemstore like 2000 gems for auto leveling masteries or ascended items etc. lol
One can play with others, but one should also be able to solo. Blizzard always got this right, GW2 got it right, but HoT failed. be seeing you.
@ Matt. Scrap the whole game and start over. HoT is a major fail! be seeing you.
OP hit the nail right on the head. And the fact that Anet did not disclose that this game cannot be soloed is nothing more than corporate greed. be seeing you.
That’s so far out right I’ll have to travel to England.
As well as what Indigo said – who’s pretty much bang on the money – if there aren’t enough players to do these events, they would have to be toned down, unless the players that are playing leave because they’re not making any progress themselves.
Personally I’ve found a lot of the events doable with a small group of players. Everyone’s mileage may vary on this however.
No, ‘corporate greed’ would Anet selling insta-Mastery XP and insta-Elite Spec unlocks, and raising the requirements to levels higher than they are now to pretty much force you to buy them to get them in a reasonable amount of time.
Calling out corporate greed has nothing to do with being either left or right. be seeing you.
It’s a figure of speech. It’s means you’re far off track with your point and it doesn’t make too much sense.
With all due respect, I disagree. be seeing you.
It is a mess. be seeing you.

OP’s wife will soon be asking for a divorce after receiving such a crappy gift. be seeing you.
That’s not how human psychology works. I really dislike this entertainment product because it isn’t fun, so I’ll tell my friends to come play it also? Not going to happen, and no marketing strategy by anyone sane would rely on such.
No, the current issue with HoT appears to be the result of the developer trying to please too many different groups with one type of play.
Elitist gamers are not the smartest bunch. If they could talk everyone in the world to buy HoT in order to help them kill a “boss”, they would. be seeing you.
It’s all about corporate greed. See my thread titled “The Real Logic”. be seeing you.
@ Ashen. I disagree. As Americans, we have the right to speak out against corporate greed. be seeing you.
More bored than burned out. A little upset that I spent $50.00 bucks on such an awful game. be seeing you.
OP might not ever have heard of freedom of speech. be seeing you.

This post is in response to another where a customer wanted a refund for HoT. I DON’T want a refund, even though I think that HoT is the worst xpac in MMO history. I will play it through no matter how frustrating and not fun it is. What I would like is a statement form the president of ArenaNet and the devs of HoT explaining to a very dissatisfied customer base as to how they could release such an awful game. be seeing you.
HoT makes me want to go back to WoW. be seeing you.
The bottom line, gliding really sucks and is pretty much useless. It was far more majestic and convenient to fly over Azeroth than to try and glide over Tyria. The devs really dropped the ball on HoT. be seeing you.
Can I have your stuff? be seeing you.
HoT is a waste of time. Spend your $50.00 bucks elsewhere.
And the elitists show their shortsightedness. Those you label as casuals make up the majority of all multiplayer game populations, thus they push the most cash into the system you’re benefitting from. Watch them leave, and you’ll eventually be shoved out the door in their wake when the company behind the game slams it shut due to insufficient funding coming from the much smaller hardcore crowd.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. be seeing you.
If you don’t die doing your story.
I picked up GW2 on a whim this Summer. I was looking for a nice alternative to WoW which I had played for over five years, but grew tired of after the WoD expansion. I really liked the relaxed style of play in GW2 over the complexity of nonsense that WoW had turned into. Now, with the release of HoT, I feel the exact same way. This is far to complicated, especially for a first expansion. I am an older (49) and casual player. I don’t have the time and/or the desire to devote my life to an MMO. It looks as if with HoT, one will have to do this. All I want to do is quest, level and socialize. Sadly, I don’t think I will be able to do that with HoT. It’s probably time to look for another MMO. Thanks for GW2, but HoT is a horrible game. Thanks for nothing, end of rant. be seeing you.
the current client is what you will use for ur expansion, nthing additional need to be done except for activating the HOT in your account
And one simply activates HOT by redeeming the code they receive after purchase? be seeing you.
I pre-purchased HoT today (10/2/15). I redeemed my code and received verification of success. My one question, do I need to download the client on or before the 23rd? I have been playing GW2 for about 2 months, so the initial game is installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. be seeing you.
I do understand the value of working with others, but I prefer to work alone. be seeing you.
My original post was not a “whine”, it was a “rant”. be seeing you.
For me, the personal story quests have been the hardest part of the game, unless you count the jumping vista quests which are simply silly and can be skipped. As for the rest of the game, I find it very easy and I do like that. I suppose I could simply concentrate on leveling when “Heart Of Thorns” comes out and just forget about my personal story. be seeing you.
Let me begin by saying that I love Guild Wars 2 and will be buying the next expansion. By the same token, I find the personal story quests ridiculously hard and pretty much impossible to complete. I am currently working on the “Through The Looking Glass” quest. It is utter foolishness to have my allies die so easily. What kind of warriors are they? It is also ridiculously stupid to have that many pirates attacking me and my allies. Dying and having to start over with damaged equipment does not for a fun game make. This post is meant as both a rant and a cry for help. Any hints on how to finish this ridiculous quest would be greatly appreciated. As for the game developers, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Some of us are casual gamers and do not have the time and/or patience to finish a quest like this. End of rant. be seeing you.
“Perspective spouse,” lol (I imagine you meant “prospective”).
I’ve had some good conversations in Rata Sum. I don’t recommend the human cities if you’re seeking intellect.
I did mean “prospective”. Silly me. be seeing you.
Haha @ “future ex-wife”. be seeing you.
I recently bought the Brady Games Guild Wars 2 strategy guide. On page 43 under the heading “Making Friends”, it states that “you could meet your best friend for life or your perspective spouse” in-game. I have played other games where the socialization has been either utter foolishness and/or elitism. What is the best way to socialize in Guild Wars 2? Are there any good places in Tyria in which a person can simply hang out and chat? Thanks in advance. Apodelaman. be seeing you.
Today (9/10/15), I “dinged” my first ever 80 in GW2. I am an older and casual player who is now looking for a guild. Things that I like to do in Tyria include PvE, exploration and socialization. Things that I do NOT like to do include dungeons, PvP and raids. I am looking for a casual/social guild with which to interact with other players. Feel free to contact me in this thread and/or in-game. Apodelaman. be seeing you.
With all that is being said, I am still happy to be here. be seeing you.
Thank you all for the warm welcome. I am off to quest! be seeing you.
Greetings Fellow Travelers, I am new to the world of Tyria. Today (8/10/15) is only my third day of play. After years of playing over rated MMOs (WoW) and boring and “laggy” MMOs (TSW), I think I have finally found a home. This game feels alive. I look forward to many adventures and many friendships in the strange, yet beautiful land of Tyria. Yours in adventuring, Apodelaman. be seeing you.
Thank you for your help. I completed the quest and cannot believe how much I am enjoying this game.
Dear Fellow Adventurers, I am new to the world of Tyria and am stuck on my first quest. It is the “On The Mend” story quest. I have no idea how to find the tavern. Any help would be appreciated. Yours in the glory of adventure, Apodelaman. be seeing you.
