I wonder why moderators merged 2 completly different threads here. One about ascended stuff and mine about achievement points. Really?
Same here, came to check on the discussion about achievements and suddenly it continued with equipment grind. …Well not really wondering anymore. I have come to expect erratic behavior from the mods for some time now.
Edit to not get infraction from being off topic:
Seeing this is a dailies discussion now, I’d like to add how I really would like to be able to turn off the daily progression indicator. It’s great to have for those who do dailies, but it just rubs me the wrong way not even being able to turn it off.

This is how i choose my pugs when leveling alts to 40 in AC Exp. Having a party full of folks who’ve been around the block before on their main’s makes doing the dungeon at 40 a breeze.
Having 4 people with 600 acievement points on THEIR main level 40’s is a much different experience.
I’ve been playing since launch, though less after the first month and I have less than 1200 achievement points. I just don’t care about them at all or need that pat in the back telling me about how great I was picking up 1000 flowers.
They are way too situational, I mostly use them by accident pressing 0 when I meant to press 9. I would rather have some normal utility skill that I would actually use instead of elite one.
It is way too over zealous system currently that it borderlines a cruel joke. I was blocked from using “Thank you.” in WvW and in say/local chat just after 3 times in roughly one hour period.
I watched little bit of the first one, Sorrow’s Embrace path 1, and I’m sorry, but where is the guide part in it? All I saw was normal game play without any kind of commentary what was going on and what you should be looking for as a guide would have.
You never want to do a story mode more than once. Despite the post above, ANet made it clear they don’t want repeat story-runners.
The suggestion of adding tokens for story mode — sure that’d be fun, and we’d all maybe get back to answering LFG calls. But they didn’t just reduce the rewards, they completely totally obliterated them. That’s a powerful message. Don’t see them back-tracking.
Can you please point out where they have expressed clear indication where story was intended for only single use? Also did you not see reply from JonPeters? They know it’s an issue and things need to change. As far as I know the rewards were reduced to stop farming them for gold with little effort and big returns, correct me if I’m wrong here. There are also some those that the rewards itself, current and past, isn’t the reason for not doing them.
To get rewards like that in story mode would defeat the purpose of “story” mode. Story mode wasn’t designed to be repeated and as such, the rewards and difficulty reflect this.
The story mode itself already defeats the purpose of “story” mode how the difficulty just slaps you in the face when you first go try them. The difficulty of exploration dungeons should reflect that they aren’t for everyone and this leaves the story dungeons for those who aren’t interested with exploration.
Am I misunderstanding something, but in WoW did you feel accomplished only if you acquired some equipment and not from beating those certain encounters? Isn’t it basically the same thing raiding/grinding for stat equipment and grinding equipment for looks when the content gating has become pretty minimal considering how minor step it is nowadays to do raids in WoW. Also to me the allure of MMO’s is that they are never “done”.
To get me back to story dungeons wouldn’t be the tangible rewards, they could add 1 gold for completion and I still wouldn’t go. It would be reward enough if I had actually fun doing them, which I don’t how they are now, but’s that’s another topic which has been discussed to death in many other places now.
As far as I can tell, the notes didn’t specify for which the changes were for. I’ve been on a lookout for any news about story dungeons that would make want to go back to them. It is a nice start if these were for story, but still seem little bit too specific concerning all the story dungeons and I’m not really jumping for joy yet for going back to them. So will there be more similar changes for story dungeons?
Little thing: Not being able to preview equipment from marketplace.
Not so little thing: Inability move and resize UI pieces like you could in GW1.
There’s tons more both positive and negative, but I’m too tired to think of anything else now. Little things are after all small things that are easily missed or forgotten and when you spot something like that, you go either oh neat, or oh bummer and then probably forget whole thing in couple hours. At least I do with many things sadly. :/
Why not? I do not understand. Even with the pet damage (which, by the way, has no AoE) ranger’s GS (and not only GS) damage catastrophically far from the other classes. And in exchange of this damage ranger receives …. what? evade? Guardian constantly hanging -33% inc damage, for example. Where is the balance?
Drakes do area damage with their basic attack and with their relatively strong f2 attacks as well.
I was using 1 handed sword before, but over time I got frustrated of the attack animation locking and now I changed to greatsword. It might be slower to kill things single target but I do think it’s better when you have consistently multiple targets to kill. It’s main damage skills, 1-3, all are some sort of area attacks where the the sword has only 1(?) at the end of the 3 hit combo.
I thought the harpoon gun was great. To me close range combat in water is really awkward and I didn’t really like the skills with the spear. I’m not sure how much difference it makes to have condition damage or plain power set for your character, but I have very little condition damage and I was just fine with harpoon even though lot of it’s basic attack is condition damage.
Laughing at the people who speed level to 80 and then complain there is nothing to do. This isn’t WoW, the game is the adventure between 1-80, there’s tonnes of neat events, story, dialog etc.
Want end game, play WvW, sPVP, Dungeon runs, map completes, gear collecting, make use of the fact the game scales you and play around in low/mid level and help those leveling.
My advice, roll another toon, and take part in the story, read the lore bits, don’t skip the cut scenes.
I got to level 80 in roughly 2 weeks of somewhat casual playing doing little bit of everything. Once there, something unexpected happened that I didn’t see coming. I lost interest playing that character actively and now I just log on to her occasionally to do something for few minutes. I thought I would have as much fun doing the same things before, but I don’t understand why it just doesn’t feel the same anymore.
I haven’t finished the personal story as it has been huge let down for me. I have pretty much arm wrestled half of the story because it has felt detached and uninteresting and finally somewhere in Orr I practically gave up, the place where it’s supposed to be at the height of the story line.
I gave up on crafting before getting to 400 skill. I don’t think I made a single useful thing to me because you get everything along the way doing other things or just from marketplace practically at vendor price. Discovery crafting felt like a bore and it was nothing more than repeating same thing at each skill level. Make insignia’s, parts and go discover the same things over and over.
I don’t like equipment grind, period. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t do dungeons and such for fun. But for me they are not fun at all as they are now so it’s a no go for me there. My equipment is still mostly greens and stat wise miss matched rares, but I’m fine with that, they get the job done whatever I happen to do and I don’t feel the need of having exotics or anything for except maybe looks.
I was about to tackle the rest of the points too, but I’m pretty sure no one is interested at this point anymore, if at all in begin with so I’ll just summarize.
I thought I would enjoy doing all the same stuff way beyond level 80, but for the most parts I can’t really tell why I don’t. I still do log in occasionally, but nothing seems to hold me here longer than 30 minutes anymore. It was so much fun while it lasted, but I honestly thought it would have lasted few more months for me. And what I’m doing now? The same thing I was doing before this, just one more game added to the list.
That sounds just awesome. With luck, you never get to be in a certain color and if you don’t go there daily as much as you can, you can say bye to the map completion. I suppose it’s not that big deal bit it is still highly annoying.
Maybe you should look for a site where what you want to talk about is on topic? Reddit might be a good place to start.
I don’t participate in any other gaming sites like I do with MMO’s, I do read and follow one or two occasionally, but I don’t really touch their forums. It’s mostly because of the time issue and I don’t want to start following the chats in many places at same time.
I hop around between MMO’s, not because I get bored or anything , but because I like too many of them. When I play certain one and participate with the community like this, I stay withing that community, forums, message boards or whatever and there’s always been a place for off topic chit chat and nonsense, but not here which I don’t really understand why.
I didn’t know what Reddit was, but I had seen some talks about it before so I did get curious enough now to see it… only to close it as soon as I saw it. It looked like a horrible mess. One thing Anet did right with these forums was the look and feel, easy to read, great layout and generally very pleasing to the eye, Reddit was completely the opposite.
I can’t get it to show in the discovery ingredient list. It is in my inventory but does not show in the list as other similar ingredients.
Edit.
I meant bowl of strawberry pie filling.
How that is supposed to work? Argent Glade haven’t been on the red side in very long time now and it makes me so annoyed when I’m missing just 3 exploration point’s across the maps on the red side. They all are in almost impossible places to get unless you are on actually that side. I don’t think I have never seen those places being taken by another realm. I do have to admit I don’t play www that much so there might have been cases they have been in our possession for a very little time, due to their location, but I can’t be on constant watch for them when it might happen.
There are some things I’d like to discuss about, but they are so off topic that they would get locked so fast in here. Why there isn’t a place for that or where I could do that in the current ones
That’s what the interesting thing would be to see. What kind of effects any changes over time have there been to people’s behavior doing those kind of things. They should have all kinds of logged data. Any worrying effect would show in them first, no matter how much there would be complaints in the forums and elsewhere, they would have the numbers to prove them wrong or back them up. Numbers aren’t everything, but they should be a clear indication what’s going on with thing.
Now that we have charts for pvp queues, can we have charts for dungeons too? It could be really interesting to see information of started, completed, unfinished and whatever information there might be saved from last couple weeks. I would be interested to see the trends of dungeon usage, which get most people and which the least. It wouldn’t be the most vital information for us, but the more we know the better it is, right?
@Afkjosh
Maybe he’s happy he had fun, and was challenged by the game in a new way? Maybe it isn’t always about the reward?
@Spectacles
These dungeons are a good way to spend time, they are fun, have interesting encounters (the Evolved Husk in CoE explorable is a good example) and you don’t lose any money from running them, and gain lots of good salvage.
See what I did there?
I don’t. Would you care to elaborate?
I’m in exactly same situation as OP, but I can’t pitch in to this issue much anymore without starting to sound like zealot …if I don’t already do.
To me you just described how exploration should be, not story.
Woops double post. With first reply I got an error but I guess it came trough after all.
Sad as it might be, it is no more sad then comparing what it should be to a game that is totally different in mindset. Forgive me if my “Reading Glasses” are fogged up after reading so much garbage around those same lines I posted. His friend supposedly left, because Guild Wars Dungeons aren’t as fun and streamlined as World of Warcrafts. Who cares, I think they are fun. Hell in fact I actually have to keep my eyes open to succeed.
And Technique? Really? You know the hardest part about raiding is finding 10-25 competent people that understand what it means to get the kitten out of the fire? Learning same routined scripted fights?
The mindset comes from each person individually and I could bet on it varies some with each person in different games. I don’t raid in WoW so I don’t know how they are, it interests me as much as doing explorables here which is practically none. But I am enjoying the dungeons whole lot more in WoW than here. After enduring trough the stories and as much as I’d like to go do them again for fun, it’s just not fun there for me.
The moment your friend said anything about WoW, you should have laughed and dicredited him.
All I heard was “World of Warcrafts dungeons are super easy and reward you with tons of epixx lewts. Guild War2 Dungeons are hard, and you can’t just faceroll everything. Also, WTH no +10000 stats on the gear?! Seriously?! Its just for Vanity?! WTF!!”
You should get your hearing checked, or get a pair of reading glasses. You are just using your own already set opinion about it and commented just to express that as a fact. It’s really sad when responses drag down to this level.
If you like out gearing your content, WoW is for you.
If you like a road map to every inch of the game, then WoW is for you.
If you like PVP in which balance is not the aim of the game, then WoW is for you.
If you like standing around in the city for hours on end, then WoW is for you.If you like spending 10K gold for things, then WoW is for you.
If you like seeing insane numbers, like critting for 108,567K on a mob that only has 300 hps, then WoW is for you.
If you like spending $15 a month for the exact same content, then WoW is for you.
What? For the most part the experience is how you make it for youself, just like in any MMO. If someone chooses those things then sure, but there are so many ways you can play it. It’s just so many refuses to see only that one way, which is lvl 1-(maxlvl-1) content don’t exist and it’s just a equipment race then.
Funnily I did go back to WoW today myself. I played maybe for an hour, did some quests, crafting and explored areas I hadn’t seen before. I had fun. Now I’m going to log in here and I’m pretty sure I’m going to have equally fun doing relatively same things.
I would love this option as well. I do hide them whenever I can. I couldn’t care less about the numbers and they only get in the way what I’m trying to look at. However I would still like the option to keep the other statuses visible, like being blocked, obstructed and so on.
This is what it SHOULD not look like even in Hello Kitty :

It’s not manly enough for you? Perhaps they will have some another version later on, gnarled and charred wood with same kind horse head, but with flaming mane. Personally I love that look, but unfortunately it’s one of those things I can’t get unless I can buy them directly.
Other bow looks, and other weapon, I really like are the Lion’s Arch karma weapon looks. Simple, but strong and distinct look.
I haven’t tested this, but it seemed to me that it gets almost guaranteed criticals while stealthed. I’m probably wrong though, someone else would have mentioned this otherwise already.
My owl is named Dr Hoo. Not terribly original, but I like it. I use bears little, but whenever I remember to change the name for polar bear, I use Achoo, though that name worked better in WoW as the bears in there had this grin on them.
Stupid quote button refuses to appear so here goes.
Jestunhi.
““Buying low & selling high” is not abusing the TP.
It’s economics 101. It’s one of the most basic of the principles of earning money.
"
It may be so, but I do hate it with he bottom of my heart. This is a game and I don’t understand the need of hoarding imaginary* money in MMO’s. I craft and sell stuff, but not for profits. When this come more and more apparent it just makes me stop crafting when I can’t sell affordable things, including nice drops I might not need, to people that actually would use them. Instead they go to greedy people for reselling.
Most money I have had was maybe somewhere over 3gold. But that’s mainly because I tend to use it what I have and it doesn’t really bother me to not have awesome amounts of money. I get by, still half green equipment, no exotics and really not a whole lot of plans for bigger purchases anyway.
*Though not as imaginary as in other MMO’s since it can save you buying gems for real money which I have done also, but it’s part of the continued income for the game so it’s bit more difficult to compare.

Great Post. Most people, for some reason.. just cant understand how to play MMO’s properly. They can’t understand boss mechanics, “class” mechanics, rotations.. etc.
previous postOh.. and notice how people are being very defensive in their replies. Guess what? They themselves are probably terri-bad at GW2 so they are jealous of your sons mad skills. ANY time, on ANY game you tell someone they are bad, they lash out like a rabbid animal. Get out of Denial people, it will help you in the long

I don’t know how to multi quote so I sneaked a part of the earlier reply in this in somewhat crude manner.
But to the point. I do hate to say someone is wrong, specially when not saying how or why and it’s kinda not nice. But there is so much wrong in that, even though not entirely. I was just flipping trough here quick before going to bed and spotted this. I can’t make good enough reply this late and tired anymore that would actually make sense so I do hope I remember to get back to this tomorrow.
Quick edit.
I have no idea why it duplicates that quote, it looks fine and umm not duplicated in the edit thingy.

I know plenty of patient people who find the vast majority of generic Youtube ‘celebrities’ grating, especially when they’re bringing nothing new to the table. This is a board for lore discussion. I don’t see how linking someone’s Youtube channel is meant to encourage that, especially when the OP doesn’t even explain or elaborate on things beyond a generic ‘he brings up good points’.
I’ve been watching his videos here and there for quite a while now and he’s got literally days worth great material to watch/listen, specially for GW1. He’s seems very enthusiast and passionate in them and I’ve learned so much more in them of Guild Wars than I could have anywhere else, in easy, understandable and fun manner. I don’t always see things as he does when it comes down to opinions, but his knowledge of the lore just seems endless and me disagreeing with some of his views doesn’t degrade the “learning” experience in the least. I used quotes in that because I’ve been blessed with the worst memory ever.
Quick edit.
I just realized what forum section this was and maybe this could be better in the personal story one.

Cultural weaponsmith sells weapons for Karma…there are quite a few: Your racial vendor, vendor in LA and vendor in Ebonswatch (I think they’re called like that). It’s not 42k but a lot more, but hey what do you expect – it’s a weapon not an armor.
Anyhow, they should add jewelery as well, because only way to aquire it now is through JC.
Oh right I forgot the racial ones. I probably just assumed they were sold for gold as the armor were since I haven’t checked those. The level 80 rare karma weapons are 63,000 karma or so, but as they look the same on all levels you could just get the 9000 one for looks. I just don’t understand why they did cultural equipment like that, weapons for karma and armor for gold. I don’t do dungeons and I don’t really get much money anywhere but at least there are reliable ways to get karma(more than money apart from dungeons I’d say). I wouldn’t mind working towards for few hundred thousand karma for a cosmetic armor set.
i have 110k karmas and its just useless for me.Karma armors are bad for my build so i can’t get them.Karma weapons are only rare so they are useless.I dont make crafts so i cant use karma for this.
So what do i do with my karma :@
I read this response bit too fast before making my own reply and missed this part, but did you happen to mean karma weapons from Lion’s Arch? If not, where are they others sold?
Lion’s Arch cultural weapons are sold for karma. They go only up to level 80 rare so they are probably intended for cosmetics. They just share the same look across the level ranges, but in my opinion they are one of the better looking weapons and not a bad way to use karma to change the look of equipment. Now if only you could get cultural armor with karma… :/
Your a heart Surgeon? Go save lives 0.o stop wasting your time with us! gogogo!
xd
I can’t tell did I miss some sarcasm in your reply or did you miss the point I was making in mine.
I’m using a over exaggeration here but only to try making my point.
I’m a heart surgeon, as you should be able to. I’m a pro golfer, as you should be able to. I’m world known actor, as you should be able to. …but that’s not even nearly possible.
As I said, those are way over the top exaggerations, but I could bet my life savings I would struggle with so many things what your 9 year old could just pick up, look at it for a bit and figure out how it works.
I’ve been trying to say this in many topics here now, people are different, and very much so. Some will struggle with certain things so much more than others that it becomes a frustration and when we are talking about games, but at least we have the option to not get frustrated and not do that. It’s just unfortunate how some things will be gated in here.
It’s great your son is having a blast in exploration, and I wouldn’t want those to change, but my issue here still is the story mode, which I can finish, but I struggle in them to the point its not fun and with that, after seeing the story, I don’t go to them anymore. I wouldn’t mind having some more fun in the story dungeons little bit more. They are amazingly built with great atmosphere but at the moment I would have more fun repeating the most dull events for an hour.
And lastly story mode is not that hard. Have a look here:
http://youtu.be/Gihg4ciH3og
That is my first dungeon run done at level 35. I did try it in BETA but it was so buggy and we were down a player so we didn’t get far.
In how many topics have you used this now(3-4?) and still completely fail to understand one important thing. Not everyone is as good, or can be as good at something as someone else. Sure you can get some results by repetition, but it quickly becomes frustrating where I’m trying to enjoy the story, not learning about group mechanics, tactics or whatever, if I wanted that I would try the exploration mode. Also you did mention in of of the other topics you were there with 3 other guild members, that’s a huge difference and rare commodity for those who mainly do pugs.
(edited by berries.7016)
There is some kind of diving animation but I’ve only gotten it work once properly. I even tried different ways running, jumping into water but it mostly happens when I’m already in the water or not at all.
Edit. Now that I think of it, maybe the one time was actually an error and it shouldn’t normally happen like that, though I hope not and it’s a bug and not working correct right now.

We’ll be doing the same with the Gw2 explorable dungeons, our own internal testing teams and alpha test groups learned to beat them using a combination of player skill, synchronous builds, strong use of cross-profession combos, use of cooking/consumable buffs (these make a huge difference!) and well formed player tactics. By comparison, after having months to play the game and the time our alpha was complete, some of our better dungeon groups felt the explorable dungeons were too easy for launch, we decided not to make them any harder given the expected player skill on launch.
We’re actively monitoring every dungeon and working on balancing issues we encounter appropriately. We’ll be keeping an eye on bosses we think don’t have enough varied mechanics to warrant their large health pools and updating them over time to make them more varied/interesting fights. We’ll be monitoring, and continually tweaking/adding to dungeon rewards over time and of course balancing where we see the need. And of course, we’ll be looking at adding more dungeons as well!
All of that being said, the game is VERY new for most of our players, and I can absolutely promise with more knowledge of the game and advanced player skill, the explorable dungeons can all be overcome by being skilled groups. We’ve seen many groups do it just fine in our internal alpha test once they had time to learn how to play the game well. Just like Domain of Anguish in Gw1, it takes time and practice to learn how to overcome stuff as hard as our explorable mode dungeons, and that’s exactly the kind of players they are designed for.

Does that mean story mode is getting looked at? Because at the moment while I can and have have finished them all, I only enjoyed the last one, except for the ending. While I want to go back to them, I’m not doing something where I’m not having fun and that’s where they are now. I’m glad exploration is kept as it is, make even harder ones for those who want them. Personally I have no interest with them, but I would still like to be able to do dungeons and have fun in them too. I endured trough them only because I wanted to see the story line trough, and enduring doesn’t sound and shouldn’t be something for a.. well you know.. story dungeon.
(edited by berries.7016)
Too many that I care to admit, and I still play others here and there. It’s not because I try something and I don’t like, but I actually seem to have a curse of liking so many themes and styles of MMO’s and wanting to play them all. For now this is taking the most of the time but it’s not something that would make me quit playing the others, in fact this just makes me want to play the others again even more but in a good way.
For me the biggest annoyance with the events is the missing most of the chain. Few times that I found really good ones, really fun too and got to experience them fully and know what was going on from the beginning left me thinking how many really good ones I have missed since I stumble upon them on the last step? They give very little information on the previous steps if at all when the whole thing is done.
Then there are those that don’t give any information at all what is going on. For example I did one yesterday. I found a downed npc, I rezzed her and to my delight it started a event. But how it went? All she did was move to a some location and said protect me while I study these whatever they were and after she was done, she poofed.. and that was it. And that’s not the only example, there have been so many of those with little or no story at all. Maybe it was again just a long chain where I got to see the very end of it, or not the end since I have no idea where she went back, but while I was doing it, there was no other information available even during the event.
For some reason the reply button has gone missing now so please excuse me for doing this the really bad way.
Kaaboose,
“I don’t get the gripes with the dungeons. All I see are complaints that the overworld stuff is too easy, and that dungeons are too hard. Which is it?
Also here is my FIRST real time in Ascalonian Catacombs (We tried it with 4 in BETA and made it just past the first trap room)
http://youtu.be/Gihg4ciH3og
It took less then an hour with around 5 deaths.”
What do you mean which is it? It is both. Out in the world I can start auto attacking something, go get cup of coffee and still be alive when I come back, but when I go to a dungeon then I suddenly need to be aware of everything including what my other party members can or can’t do and act accordingly, have the reflexes I don’t posses and I’m supposed to trait and equip myself in certain way in order not to die.
Congratulations on your party, but doesn’t show anything else than you are better than most. Or maybe the party setup just worked so much better than the random things you might have with you in any dungeon. There seems to be quite a bit of chat of how having this and that class there with a specific skill making things so much easier. And here I thought the class, and how you choose to play it wouldn’t matter as much as it seems to now.
The one time I was there was very frustrating and when we eventually got trough, it felt like cheating how we finally got trough couple bosses. And if it’s actually the right way to do them then it’s really bad design in my opinion.
I finally got to do story Arah I didn’t think I would say this but… I liked it. It was by far the most enjoyable dungeon and to me one single reason makes it so. No pointless cheap mechanics. I did die there couple times, but what’s different is this time is that I could tell the reason what it was, not just by standing in wrong place and somehow lose all my health or someone charging at me then beating to death or whatever. The progression was fairly swift and it generally felt how it should be for a more like starting difficulty.
If only the rest were like this, then we wouldn’t have this issue as how many has the concern that something is bit off in story dungeons.
