Can we remove downstate from pvp?

There have been many threads on this already. I agree with you 100%. Lots of other people also agree but one argument I have heard supporting the downed state is that it counters the games insane burst in tournaments.

In my opinion it is boring, unbalanced and a terrible way to implement a counter to burst.

Signet of Restoration is really weak?

I find the signet of restoration unbelievably good with 0 in earth. I only use the actual heal if I am running away. Otherwise the passive along with the d/d water skills sustain me really well. I am constantly dodging, switching attunements and casting spells and have had several whispers as to how my health bar barely moves in one on ones.. It has made a big difference to my game after switching fom the glyph.

This is from a pvp perspective by the way.

A dagger/dagger elemental is very strong if played well – lots of mobility, cc, and survivability with the right build. I would suggest doing some pve with it first though to familiarise yourself with the attunement switching mechanic.

This is another ‘strategic’ class though so if you disliked mesmer because you had to think too much this might not be for you. Do yourself a favour and try it though

The thing I hate most is binding roots – the ranger elite. Get caught with that against the zerg and its game over if cantrips are down. I don’t think condition removal gets rid of this one.

Yes, as I said, if cantrips are down.. Lightning Flash does too but switcibg to water with condition removals doesnt seem to work on it.

Stability stomps also do nothing against those teleporting thief corpses as thay spam knives that cripple and hurt a lot coupled with odd lightning proc for 3k.

sPvP’s lack of requiring tactics and different game modes is its biggest problem right now. It’s just running around in a circle zerging people for points.

SWTOR had probably the best 8v8 system of any MMO I’ve played. Each map was a different game mode and you had to use a lot of tactics and luck to actually win matches and it was usually very satisfying beating another organized group especially if they knew what they were doing. Some of those matches were so close I would be shaking.

sPvP doesn’t even get my adrenaline pumping and that’s why I don’t play it.

Yep, for some reason SWTOR PvP always got my adrenaline going. After most matches I would have to stand up and pace around the room I was so excited. For some reason it just doesn’t happen in GW2. I like GW2 PvP, it just doesn’t seem as intense.

Yeah same here. SWTOR pvp was slated by many but I always found it fun. Even pug groups generally tried to play the objectives to get the win, and yes, some of those close matches really got the heart pumping!

I don’t get that feeling at all with gw2 spvp. I actually started playing the game with the mentality I had in TOR – capping nodes and guarding them rather than just zerging off. I soon realised this was pointless in the current system. Winning means nothing. There is no team communication, just an utter zerg fest.

I am sure tournies are different but my friends no longer play the game and my guild has dissolved so that is no longer an option.

I still enjoy pug spvp but I approach it with a different attitude. I couldnt care less about my score, I wander the map looking for 1 v 1s or 1 v 2s or see how long I can survive Against the opposing zerg. I still have fun but the competitive side is what I make it – can I beat that warrior and enji together and get away? Etc. The game itself offers no incentive to compete to win so just do your own thing, whatever gives you fun.

I don’t care about gaining glory quickly – new clothes, weapon skin? Couldn’t care less. Again, no incentive to progress on that front imo. Picking out someone decked out in that gear and beating them down? Now you are talking!

I avoid getting my robe wet at all costs. I handle underwater combat by avoiding the ruins at al times on capricorn and swearing at my monitor when i need an underwater heart for map completion.

I detest the underwater game gimmick intently, even more so on ele.

What in the 9 hells are you talking about? Glass eles? D/D ele’s are far from glass and that was my whole point.

Solo “NPC” groups? I was talking about groups of players. Who gives a flying kitten about NPCs? It’s kind of why I mentioned specifically soloing “groups of players”.

Perhaps more silly ele’s should go talk to the ele squad from PRO on FA and learn how to ele. Watch some videos of how to solo zergs and come away with multiple kills alive and at full health by the end of it.

So as not to be hypocritical I will go watch videos of warriors soloing zergs and coming away victorious….

The eles you are talking about are running 0/10/0/30/30 or 0/10/10/20/30. Hardly the glass cannon. A lot of the attack power of this build came from might stacking via evasive arcana which has been gutted in the patch.

No ele in their right mind builds the way you described. If they attempted to take on a zerg they would be killed in an instant.

I agree the ele has great survivability but this is obtained by speccing and gearing for it, not by running a gc build. Also, to repeat, the attack potential of this build has been greatly lessened by the recent patch.

Dunno what the problem is with warriors. Why do some people see them as so powerful? As a dd ele if I come out of a 1 v 1 against a warrior with less than three quarters health left i am disappointed. They are the easiest class to fight imo. Laughably predictable, easily counterable attacks. I for one can understand why they havnt been nerfed.

Yes, the hammer to conjured hammer thread is ridiculous but I can’t understand this dev’s favourites’ attitude towards warriors.

Agree 100%. No fun whatsoever imo. Please give me a ‘self destruct’ 5 button. This, and underwater combat. Seems to me these two features were added as something diffetent from other mmos. Well, it hasn’t worked as far as I am concerned. Don’t do something new for the sake of it. Extra balance issues to take care of and just frankly boring.

Land combat while not downed – amazingly good fun. When I am knocked down, for the love of god just let me respawn…

You admit yourself that you were testing out new builds for spvp. That ele has probably been playing his spec and skill set for a long time. Hardly the basis for a discussion on class balance is it?

Kudos for posting a video where you get your bottom handed to you but youtube has hundreds of vids of every class owning every other class in 1 v 1s. A good player will beat a bad player whatever class he is using.

A bunker elemental cant insta gib you from nowhere. You have made yor thread, lets see if it gets the same amount of support as the hundreds of nerf thief threads.I know you don’t intend this as a nerf ele thread, more a ‘leave my class alone, it’s fine – see?’ thread, but really it could have been any class beating you in that duel.

Why should he be capable of ‘handling abuse’? There is no excuse for it whatsoever. So after receiving a childish abusive tirade from a stroppy teenager he should have just apologised for disturbing them and left? Great way to encourage anti social behaviour don’t you think? If they had explained the situation to the OP politely I am sure he would have been more than happy to accomodate them.

I once joined a server with 8 players as I dislike the zerg fest of 8 v 8. I received a similar welcome and stayed until the end of the game. If this pro guild had explained what they were doing politely, of course I would have left immediately.

Yes, there should be a duel feature. It is not the fault of the duellers that they are forced to take a server to try out new builds etc. However, it is certainly not the fault of the OP that he hit the ‘play now’ button, which is supposed to be the feature you use to be matched with players of similar rank, and he was landed with these a holes.

One way to avoid seeing the death breakdown from the 3 skill instagib is roll an ele. The new mistform downed state damage overwrites all preceding damage on the death breakdown. All you see is Mistform 20k damage or whatever. As long as you don’ t check your combat log you can convince yourself that you were struck down by a sudden heart attack or bolt from above.

You can thus remain in blissful ignorance of being hit by this ludicrous combo.

As D/D ele with a razer naga –
May seem a weird set up to you but is now like an extension of my arm –
Thumb pad numbers –
1 – Lightning Flash cantrip
2 – Earth attunement
3 – Arcane Wave
4 – skill 2
5 – skill 1 (auto attack)
6 – skill 3
7 – skill 4
8 – Air attunement
9 – skill 5
10 – Elite
11 – Water attunement
12 – Heal

Middle Mouse button – Fire attunement.

This set up places all of my attunements down the middle of the thumb pad/mouse, which is very intuitive to me. I rebound skills 1-5 as I find the top row of naga thumb pad keys the hardest to reach. Works great for me, and as others have said, I can’t imagine playing an mmo without a Naga anymore.

SAtaarcoeny you are making yourself sound like an elitist no life. Get some perspective. This is a game. I am glad that beating those without your unearthly skills bring you ‘joy’, however I very much doubt the non gifted will be slashing their wrists after being exposed to your awesomeness.

I play an elementalist and purposefully levelled to 80 first before trying pvp as I knew the understanding and fluid use of the attunement class mechanic would be essential for any chance of success in pvp.

As stated above, if you had directed your friend to the gurdian, thief, warrior class I am sure he would have had an easier time and picked up a few kills. Not trying to sound elitist but some classes are a lot easier to start off with than others.

No health bars is losing me

I think it is pretty clear from the OP what is hampering him – ready, easy to view access to both the enemy’s and his own team’s health bars. Putting an option for health bars above heads would make it more clear as to which low health enemy to target or which ally to try to help out/heal a little.

Although it may not bother or hinder you Smackjack I don’t think the OP needs to reiterate his problem with the UI…

Many players have come from games where this option was available and have gotten used to it. Hell, it may even cause people to prioritise targets in SPVP rather than just unload their aoe arsenal randomly. I havn’t really been bothered by it up to this point but I can certainly see where the OP is coming from.

Underwater

I just don’t go underwater on my ele unless vital for map completion. Underwater combat bores me to tears anyway and this class inparticular I find has a tougher time in general.

I adore land combat on my elementalist and heart sinks when I am forced to get my robe wet.

Is the 4-kit Engineer what the Elementalist should be?

Valid polnt OP and I have wondered the same having started on enji then switched to elem. But yeah, because of the attunement bonuses, particularly from the arcana line, it would take a lot of reworking.

I totally agree. Even in swtor pugs generally attempted to play the objectives. What I can’ t understand, with the spvp scoring system as it is, is why there are objectives at all. Basically it should be an open field with pillars to LOS if you can be bothered. All meet in the middle and empty your aoe cooldowns. This seems the only playstyle the current scoring system promotes.

Personally speaking, I am one of those mugs that does stay at a point to guard it. I would rather win the game and pretend I had done something worthwhile…

I didnt play any betas but bought the game based on its reputation for pvp. I was shocked to be honest.

Did you not even read the posts above? A d/d dagger ele doesn’t have a single daze. Hard to give advice on how to counter something that didn’ t happen.
