Hey guys, returning player here looking for a friendly, social guild to join. I am 28 and live on the east coast. Active most nights after my son goes to bed. Have a couple 80 alts but am starting fresh leveling a new character to prep for HOT.
In game name is Ronin Darkclaw, send me a message or reply here if you are recruiting. Thanks!
Hey guys just starting to get back into the game after leveling a char to 80 at launch. See some good improvements already. Just curious, has any new content been added that wasn’t temporary or seasonal?
I see the living world thing will be ending soon but am confused about that…would I only be able to play the final part of it? Any other new content I should keep an eye out for while leveling? Thanks
Hey guys haven’t played in about a year or so and just logged in last night. It seems like a lot has changed / been added since I was away and I’m feeling very lost. I last played when the living world first started and just need some guidance on what’s happening end game now. I’m full exotic but I guess ascended is the best now? Are these dungeon drops or crafted? If anyone would be kind enough to take the time and just give me a rundown to help ease me back in I’d be very grateful. Thanks!
Just need a little clarification on MF. I know it influences drop rate from mobs. Does it influence chests? bags? mystic forge results? harvesting?
thanks
I think there will be more, but since you’re asking for realistic, we only have sources for those four things, as far as I know.
And for anyone who missed it in the other thread, here’s what’s been said so far:
Hey guys,
Just to help provide some clarity on this, we’ll be releasing within the next couple of weeks a high level summary of our big plans for the first half of 2013 to help provide more transparency into our plans with the game going forward. This will include providing more details about our goals for the game, information about the stories and features that you’ll see in the Jan/Feb/March releases.
To set expectations accordingly, the January release will be a relatively small release that sets the table for the stories and features we plan to roll out with the Feb/March releases and beyond. Also, there will be no new race, profession, or new region with these larger Feb/March releases. One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible, ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built, and strengthening the core game we’ve provided. In saying this will be an expansions worth of stuff in these releases, we’re talking about the number of new features that will be rolled out across PvE, WvW, and PvP in early 2013, which usually you’d only find in an expansion for a traditional MMORPG.
More details and specifics to come in the next couple of weeks, but I hope that helps provide some more insight into what to expect at a very high level.
thanks for posting that info!
I meant more realistic guesses I suppose, as in, speculation based on what we’ve been told and how you all think the existing world can be expanded (lore and mechanic wise) without adding the things we’ve been told wont be added. (probably should have clarified more in OP)
There are only a few things I think we can see as likely:
1. The fractal improvements that were discussed.
2. A few WvW improvements, but I can’t recall if they’ve stated.
3. The PvP improvements that were stated as coming in the State of the Game.
4. A relatively complete, but high-level, listing of the things that they will be working on for the next 4 months.
hopefully there will be a good amount more than this since they are pushing the whole, “expansions worth” in january and feb….
Hey everyone,
I’ve seen a couple “wish” threads for the upcoming updates and while I do enjoy reading what everyone would like to see, I wanted to create a thread that deals with what we realistically believe will be added in the next couple months.
It has already been confirmed that we will not be getting new lands, new races, or new professions, as they want to expand on the world as it is.
On that note, what are your best, educated guesses as to what we will be seeing implemented in GW2 in the coming months…as in, how can the existing world be expanded (lore and mechanic wise) without adding the things we’ve been told wont be added.

Your gonna need to raise your toughness. I suggest decreasing a bit of power for toughness. Knights gear is right in line with what your looking for has +power +precision +toughness. And contrary to ^above poster 30/30/5/0/5 is still glass cannon. Try something like 20/30/10/0/10 yes your sacrificing power but you still have high crit rate even your traits will work but then you need to gear properly for it.
thanks for the advice. what do you think a good number is to shoot for (toughness)?
It really depends on your own play style and preference, but if you’re looking for dps/crit with decent survivability and mainly in PvE, I’d recommend retraiting to 30/30/x/x/x and seeing how it works out, and if it doesn’t you can move points back into WS/BM until you get to a level that you feel meets your requirement for ‘decent’ survivability.
It’s only 3.50s or something to retrait. A good investment to find the build that suits you best.
Glass cannon in PvE is not viable in dungeons get torn apart in later dungeon although if you only run AC/TA should be fine.
How do you think my current build will hold up in later dungeons (I’ve only done a couple so far)
i pve much more than pvp…mostly open world stuff and some dungeons.
i use quickening zepher. signet of the hunt, signet of stone and rampage as one.
Hey all, just wondering if anyone could check out my screens and let me know how my build is looking. I’m trying to focus on a high dps/crit ranger that also has decent survivability.
I basically just want to know if this spread makes sense and see how my stats match up with other lvl 80 rangers….thanks!
Just wondering if anything special is planned or if it’ll just be the same stuff
Hey guys, I’ve been in a guild since day 1 but although its a large one, no one ever seems to chat and anytime I ask questions or try to group nobody responds…
I’m lvl 80 ranger, mostly exotic gear looking for a good group to chat with and run dungeons.
I play almost every night (after I put my son to sleep)
Oh, one thing…I haven’t run a single dungeon yet haha I really want to start getting into them but feel overwhelmed…no one seems to want to help me get started or group since i’m inexperienced…so it’d be great if my next guild was willing to group up and help me get my feet wet!
Thanks, my name ingame is Araevir.
I’ve basically been running a crit based ranger with shortbow/ sword dagger combo from lvls 1-80. It has worked well except I’m noticing that #1 most of the attacks are condition based #2 I’m really never switching to sword dagger so it feels like wasted space. I have maxed out precision as my main stat, decent power from gear, and condition damage in a far third. What do you guys think?

I’m not home and it kinda hard for me to recall my exact build but like I said that’s very close to how I’m set up so maybe just some general critiques …
Haha I know I couldn’t get the new one to load on my ipad…that is still pretty close to my current build though (ie offhand weapon skills charge faster vs dagger skills etc)
O and I didn’t mention I do more pve, but would like to be able to hang in wvwvw when I feel inclined to joinin.
Hey everyone I’m currently trying to perfect my dps/survivability build. Here’s my current build http://www.gw2builds.org/create/bwe_1/ranger#2.1.4.1-2.3.4.5.2-10.30.20.5.5-12.3.8.7.1.9
My gear is specd towards extra power/crit damage and I have about 55% crit chance.
I use a bird pet for dps the hairless bear for tanking.
I’m sure there are things I can change and probably some stuff that doesn’t make much sense so I’m reaching out to the expert community to tweak and, if need be, insult my build.
Thanks!
My apologies if this has been asked, I scrolled through and didnt see anything…
do we know what time this will go live on the 14th?
I have a flight and will be leaving my house at 11am EST tomorrow just want to know if i’ll be able to see some wintery goodness beforehand : )
I run a ranger with sword/dagger and shortbow. Not running into these problems really except for the snake roll going to the side and missing. It seems like if you hold your directional key towards the enemy as you roll you hook them…maybe its just my imagination though.
Also a good skill lineup is this:
snake roll (3), poison dagger (4), hornet sting (fly back)(2-tap once), throw dagger (5), hit 2 again to return to enemy, repeat if necessary (probably wont be)
o also that monitor is a passive 3d monitor, so i dont think you would be using nvidia 3d vision for that (maybe nvidia 3dtv play?) check into tridef 3d for that particular model if you want to try it out.
That’s a tight budget for a 3d vision capable system, basically figure 3d vision will half your fps.
CPU seems to be the most important for GW2 (at least at the moment, who knows what optimization they will make)
good call building your own you will be able to build a fine rig for that price that should be able to keep consistent 30fps during large scale battles (not maxed of course)
My advice would be to create an account at overclock.net and ask the guys there to help build your rig for your budget…not that the GW2 community isnt capable but that community is the best for helping with new builders IMO
good luck!
I sometimes play this game on my m17x (580m) and experience little to no lag. I assume when using the term “lag” you are referring to internet lag and not low fps.
If you are talking about fps, I average around 40fps pretty much maxed (native render/shadows high not ultra) but sometimes hit 60 when not in a city.
I also have road runner lightning and experience no internet lag. I did recently open the recommended ports on my router, even though I wasn’t experiencing problems before (better safe than sorry) So make sure you try that. Also make sure windows firewall and whatever AV you are using is set to allow GW2 exe to run.
Aside from that not sure what else to tell you, if I can assist anymore please let me know.

I do understand that. What I mean is, for instance when playing the secret world I could run it windowed at 1920×1080 leaving this side monitors open. Wondering if its possible to set the window size in GW2 basically.

? Im confused by that. You mean I need to actually flip my monitors into a portrait setup?
hmm that makes sense. I wonder if setting max frames to render in the control panel would have any effect on this?
Surround Setup (how to use one screen for internet browsing)

Hello, so I am currently running a 3 monitor surround setup at 5760×1080. I am still running GW2 at 1920×1080 due to the problems with surround.
The issue that I’m running in to is that I am unable to use the other monitors for anything when playing the game. If I set it to run at 1920×1080 it blacks the 2 side monitors out. If I set it to windowed mode it runs at the full surround resolution.
Anyone know how I can run fullscreen windowed mode on the main monitor while leaving the side 2 open for browsing, monitoring etc?
Hey all, not sure if this has been discussed here yet…Myself, as well as many other users, are experiencing very low GPU usage when is SLI (running most recent Nvidia beta drivers).
For instance, when I am out in the field exploring both of my 680s will run at 97-99% usage netting me 60-120fps depending whether I am in a big group or not (settings maxed).
Other times, like when in a big city, or even sometimes when I am out in the world, the usage will be around 40-50% dropping my fps to 30 and lower.
This doesn’t seem to be caused by any specific thing (such as extreme amounts of people) but almost seems random.
The gpu usage is more often than not under 50% per card.
I know a lot of people have posted this problem on other forums but it doesn’t seem as though there has been any kind of formal response or solution.
