If you thought HoT & LS3 were bad...

The first half of LS1 was certainly a mess. I didn’t do most of the things because they bored me horribly. However, the latter half with Tower of Nightmares, Marionette, Battle for LA were fun as hell. MUCH more fun than anything that happened this season. Marionette is still one of my favorite boss fights in this game. The Silver Wastes boss is just a pale imitation of it unfortunately.

That alone makes LS1 better than LS3. LS3 had a mess of a story and I wasn’t very engaged. I was either ambivalent about what was going on or hated it. Like when Anet foolishly made my character make a bloody oath to the Shining Blade. I’m still annoyed about that. Hated that last episode for a lot of things though. Hated the way they just threw in Livia out of the blue with no set up. Hated how they brought back Laz for 5 seconds only to kill him off. And everything that happens in these episodes is instanced with no huge impacts on the world around you anyway.

I will take LS1 over LS3 any day for those big battles alone. As for LS2, that at least had an interesting story, though it was too short.

I agree, what made season 1 great is the big world events, and I think they should reintroduce that somehow. Instead of the mini maps that they are adding, which are dead after a new episode come out.

I know that a lot of people didn’t like Scarlet at the time, but I thought she was a good villain. I also thought at the time that the Sylvaris were some how connected to a 6 elder dragon because of the dream that Sylvari players had at the beginning of the game. Anyway, on to HoT. I didn’t think it was bad, but I did not think it was good either. In fact, I felt like the 50$ price wasn’t worth it, and I was going to wait for it to go on sell, but my Guildies <3 bought it for me. In addition, I wasn’t one of those so called “Veteran players” who complained that the core game went Play For Free. In fact, I thought it was a good thing to open the door for more players. I also felt I got a lot out of my 60$ that I paid back in 2012, and that was the only time I paid for anything. Lastly, the size of the new maps in this expansion looks promising, unlike HoT, and the 30$ feels like the right price to me. Thus, I’ll be buying this expansion.

Heart Quests again

blade eyes.2034

I have already made a post about this in the past, but I didn’t do well to explain my position. Thus, I want to redeem myself by explaining it better in this post.

First of all, one problem is that many people believe that Hearts are the primary objective to level up your character, and that’s partially true if you’re going for map completion. However, the Prime purpose of Hearts are Guides of where will Dynamic Events could appear. Sadly, those Hearts don’t always have Dynamic Events around them. Thus, filling the bar with mundane tasks became the prime objective. Now, ArenaNet was going to address this problem by adding more Dynamic Events to the world, and that would over time fix the problem. Although it seems like that is no longer possible because of the living story/expansions heavy work or that ArenaNet is ignoring it because the community doesn’t care anymore. To give credit where credit due ArenaNet has been adding small events to the world, but to my knowledge, those Events haven’t addressed the lack of Dynamic Events surrounding Hearts. Therefore, I thought it would be better if Heart Quests became an account bound because after doing them once they become mundane. It is hopeful for new lost players I guess, but it should not replay Dynamic Events, which I consider them to be the Pinnacle of Guild Wars 2 uniqueness. Moreover, in my previous post, that idea wasn’t popular perhaps due to my poor explanation or maybe the community just simply love to fulfill the bar, after all, ArenaNet did add a daily repetitive Heart Quests to the new living story maps. That is why I came up with a different request which was to have the option to hide the Heart Quests. You see, ArenaNet has added this great thing called “The compass guide,” which allows you to explore the world without having to look at the world map very few seconds. In addition, the compass guide also had the option to hide your personal story and “Dynamic events!” But no choice to hide Heart Quests. In fact, the compass guide will take Heart Quests as a priority over everything else if you have your personal story on hidden. Lastly, I’m asking for the option to hide Heart Quests not for map completion, but to explore the interesting mini stories of Dynamic Events that are sadly overshadowed by Heart Quests/events that are not unique.

P.S. I hope I explained my position better this time.

Arenanet has broken its promise

Hello, I have been playing GW2 since 2012, and recently I have been thinking about quitting because Arenanet has broken its promise, which you can see in those old trailers

So you play the game for around 5 years and now you think about quitting the game because you have seen two marketing videos that are around 5 years old and now you think A-Net broke a promise?

Wouldn’t that be a little bit ridiculous?

My firm belief on why Arenanet has abandoned it is vision …

I do not think that A-Net has abandoned its vision.
As an example: I see the living maps that tell a story with events und NPCs every day I walk through those maps. Of course there are not much new things to discover (besides living story and expansions) if a player has played a game a few years.

This (made with high artistic quality) very detailed, living world is (for me) the one most outstanding “promise”/vision of A-Net.

However, I can’t help but feel that GW2 is becoming just like any other repetitive MMO.

Every MMO is repetitive and has grind. Yes, they all are the same overall.

Difference in GW2: You do not need to grind for gear that is required for content. You get it usually when you play the game-(mode). And you do not need to grind for better gear again when an expansion increases the level-cap (which it usually does in other games) and devaluates every old gear.

If you do not like the actual game, thats a valid opinion.
But I think blaming A-Net for breaking a promise is wrong.

You’re making a wrong assumption here. You think that I just saw those two old trailers and suddenly decided that Arenanet has broken its promises. No, when Arenanet announced Heart of Throne I was excited, I didn’t know what Arenanet was going to bring with it. I assumed they would build on their original vision and address the issues they had with it. Instead, they banned the idea of living breathing world for one that is static with maps that no longer change but stays the same for farming. The idea of “The Story Journey” originally came from the community as a way for new players to have access to season 1 story since the story was mostly instanced outside the big events that came with it. With HoT GW2 became something different, and now I know what it is.

Lastly, “Every MMO is repetitive and has grind.” I’ll just say this, Guild Wars 2 wasn’t supposed to be like every MMO and it wasn’t for a while.

It is true that season 1 had a problem with it is design. In fact, my brother doesn’t play GW2 because he can’t play season 1. However, I think that Arenanet could have fixed that problem by giving players access to the story, which was mostly instanced. They can even allow players to redo the big fights like “Twisted Marionette” and “The attack on Lion Arch” by making those fights also a standalone instance with an army of NPCs to replace the players. I know that it’ll not be the same as someone who would have done those events alive with other players, but I think it can work as long as the NPC AI isn’t horrible. Lastly, It is not that I care so much about season 1, but more of what it did to the game itself, which made it feel truly alive like they promised.

I guess GW2 is no longer my game, and it was the only MMO that I liked because it is different. However, it has been changing away from the original vision which they sold me on. I know that Season 1 and core GW2 had a lot of problems like end game etc. Also, I think they did a good job of addressing some of those problems. However, at the same time they didn’t solve other problems like the lack of Dynamic events in core tyria along with how to allow people to do the stories of season 1 without giving up on it is usage of affecting and changing the world. Instead, they give up on everything that made GW2 unique. Now, I love the way they are telling their story in HoT and Living stories; they are getting better at it. Despite that, those stories don’t affect the world in any significant way like season 1.

3) A gated crafting to waste more of players time.

Have you ever crafted full ascended weapon set for warrior and at least two armor sets?
Well great news for you at the moment when you would get enough mats and/or gold for them you would craft all time gated mats.
There is only one really annoying time gated thing: charged quartz crystals [/quote]

I have 6 ascended armors, 2 heavy, 2 light and 2 medium long with weapons.
My point is that GW2 using time-gated crafting like other MMOs, which is a waste of time. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t believe Guild Wars 2 crafting did have time gated things before the “traditional MMO players wanting treadmill gear grind.” Now, I don’t mind the ascended armors/weapons as long as Arenanet doesn’t go back on their word and start adding gears with higher stats, which I don’t think they’ll. However, I noticed that there are still people wanting this “treadmill gear grind,” which is the problem with MMOs along with their players.

Hello, I have been playing GW2 since 2012, and recently I have been thinking about quitting because Arenanet has broken its promise, which you can see in those old trailers
1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU1JUwPqzQY
2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oit0gBEWHo

When the game first came out most of what they promise was there, and it was their job to improve on those systems, not abandon them. For example, the living story season 1 made the world feel more life be adding new Dynamic events that affected the world in significant ways. Where the new seasons add maps that you do once and never again, unless if you need to farm/grind for some materials or items. One of the problems that season 1 had is that it only takes place once every two weeks, and you can never repeat the old episodes, but that problem was easy to fix. What Arenanet should have done is allow people access the story instance of past episodes by the “Story Journal,” and yes they’ll not have the same exact experience as when the event was taking place, but they would still experience it to some degree.

Edit addition: I don’t care so much about season 1 more about the big events that came with it, which affected the world of GW2 in a significant matter. Unlike the new seasons which add mini maps that are meant to be farmed, and doesn’t impact the world of GW2 in any significant ways.

My firm belief on why Arenanet has abandoned it is vision is due to what I call “The traditional MMO players,” which are in need of “Heart Quests.” This system wasn’t originally part of GW2; it got added because those players couldn’t understand how the event system worked. Even today those players defend this lame system and say it is necessary to waste time on. Arenanet listened and even added a repetitive daily Heart Quests to their new maps, instead of finding a better way to improve on their dynamic event system. So, what is GW2 of today? Well, it is as follow.

1) HoT, farming/grinding the same maps over again, and again “Swimming your sword” along with bosses that keep responding every hour and “It doesn’t care that your there.”

2) empty maps with uninteresting events/Heart Quests along with a static world that stopped changing.

3) A gated crafting to waste more of players time.

Now, I’m not against the idea of expansions, but I think they had the wrong vision when they implemented Heart of Thrones. Also, I’m not against the addition of raids. However, I can’t help but feel that GW2 is becoming just like any other repetitive MMO. I originally was sold on the idea of GW2 be the trailers above, and yes I know that they are Just trailers to sell the game, but that is not an excuse. Perhaps I was naive at the time, but still…

"Symbol of Blades" has changed?

in Guardian

blade eyes.2034

Hello, I have been playing Guardian since day one and recently I have noticed that the “Symbol of Blades” doesn’t work as it used to. I usually don’t read the patches that go into the game, so instead I ask my Guildies. My Guildies said that the “Symbol of Blades” still works the same as it has always been, but I’m not convinced, and that’s why I am here. I remember that you could use “Symbol of Blades” to Teleport close to an enemy even if they are far, but it seems like there are times where it doesn’t work if you aren’t in the range where your Teleportation will allow you to be on the top of the enemy. Did they change the range? If they did, I don’t quite remember the original Range number. I have noticed this, especially in sPVP, any thoughts?

Thank you

I gave you a +1 for this. Rather than react to your list I’m going to make my own. With the understanding that other people (probably many that I am friends with actually) aren’t going to see it the same way.

1) Open World PVP setting: We have soooo many discussions around the score, about PPT, about tryhards. I just want the ability to log in and have the content be player driven. With open world settings the players can set up scrims, have more control over roaming, etc. Plus some of our PVE maps would be an absolute joy to have PVP battles on in some form. But that changes the entire game. I didn’t say it was realistic, this is a wish list.
2) Larger team PVP maps: I’m thinking 20v20 or 40v40 here.
3) Yes to environmental combat scenarios. Underwater combat, gliding and being able to use abilities in the air. I want to see squadrons of Asura MM necros coming towards me blotting out the sun.
4) Population balancing: This is tough because players disrupt this every time. Having played on some very low ranking servers who then get linked with T1 servers, its not entertaining to be forced into playing against blobs. (I personally do big group play and roaming so I don’t mind.) The absolute basic metric used in a PVP type of setting is developing a scenario where the teams at least have equal players.
5) Rewards tracks specific to WvW: While I’m not certain what this would look like, I want rewards that are available just to this game mode.
6) Updated WvW Achievements: This is a way to engage more people to try out the game mode. There are definitely achievement hunters who would go out of their way to knock these out. Try some crazy versions. Put some in only for a limited time each season, like killing a certain number of opponents with specific finishers. Give someone both positive and negative versions. Much like having a title for the person who has died the most times on a server.

And honestly, put some of the suggestions from the community in the game. I’ve read so many ideas on here over the years that would be fantastic.

For your first wish, I actually had an idea on how to do an Open World PvP, yet keeping it separate from PVE. I made a Topic on it in Guild Wars 2 Discussion called “Bandits vs Mercenaries (Activity Game),” but it seems like many people Just don’t want PvP in Open World or just immediately think of Open World PvP as in other games. Here is me quoting myself on how it will work.

“To start with, here is a rough idea of how the mechanic will work. Allow players to steal goods like silver and some unique skins, but nothing crazy. In addition, allow players to kill NPCs stealthily as bandits in towns. They can be NPCs that already exist or new ones for this game mode, and the stealth system would work similar to how it worked when we played as Caithe in the episode “Seeds of Truth.” Furthermore, If the player gets caught by Soldier Patrol or killed too many NPCs, they’ll get a bounty on their head. As a result, other players who can become mercenaries can pick up the Bounty, and pursue the Bandit player. As well as, the more mercenaries get killed by the Bandit player, the higher his/her bounty will become. Lastly, the regular PVE players who did not register to become a mercenary, can not attack or be attacked be the Bandit players. Therefore, keeping PVE and PVP separated.”

In addition, they can make this game mode exclusive to lvl 80s or boost players who sing up for this activity to lvl 80.

(1) You get the Charr Bikes if you delve deep into the guild scribe upgrades. Never tried it myself, and honestly never seen it around. But all in all, most WvW players would like to see work priority elsewhere (Population, Coverage, Fight Balance, Conditions etc)

(2) As mentioned, technical limitation of the engine. Eternal Battle Ground already get lag as all heck when 2-3 large groups gather up in SMC. WvW maps are already flirting with how close to the max population per map without breaking into a slide-show mess of lag. And even if you did manage to make a larger map for WvW, it still wouldn’t have more people, so this is not likely going to happen.

(3) I think most players in WvW are too busy to fight to decorate castles, especially SMC that tend to resemble a cheese full of holes most of the time.

(4) GW2 engine isn’t capable of moving a platform that you can stand on. It sounds weird, but it simply can’t move the ground under your character, with your character on it. If you did the last step of the personal story, you get an airship battle, the entire thing is hacked by moving the entire rest of the map around the air-ship…

One of my guildies managed to fall down, and got caught in a wacky teleport chain, where the game tried to teleport him back to the ship, but failed, and he got stuck for the rest of the dungeon, until he finally teleported into Zhaitans foot. So sorry, wait for GW3 ?

(5) See 4.

1) Yeah, I know there are many limitations with the game engine, which is a shame.

2) Charrs have many more war machines then just the “Charr Bikes,” and I think it would be fun if they add them into WvW. Since WvW should be like a war zone.

3) The “Castles decorate idea” is to have the Castles to be somewhat similar to Guild Hall, but for WvW. I think it’ll give more reasons for WvW Guilds to hold a Castle and defend it. Instead of what we have right now, which is take a keep or a castle and have it taken 5 minutes later. Besides, it will add more meaning and personal connection for players to defend their castles.

I don’t know if people miss understand the idea for this Activity or just didn’t read the post until the end. Sounds more like an activity then an open world pvp. Which as an activity would be good, since true open world pvp is horrible in so many ways.

. As for the “insult’s caused by pvp” that’s so not entirely true. I see cursing and insults all the time in pve maps lol. Example Player 1 where is today’s daily jp located. Player 2 Kitten off and learn the game. Or another is during meta’s specially when they fail so using that as an excuse is a cop out.

I guess your right, it would be accurate to call it an activity. I actually almost forgot that those exist.

Hello, I have been playing Guild Wars 2 for 4 years now, but I have stopped playing WvW after a year, and here is why. To me WvW is like this; you are going around with a zerg, taking stuff and killing players back and forth between the 3 servers until the timer is up. After that, your server moves on to the next tier, congratulation! Okay, so how is the next tier different? Do we fight on a different map? Do we get any new toys to play with? (meaning sieges and vehicles) The answer is no; you just get bigger zergs playing on the same maps and doing the same thing for the next 4 years. Yeah, that feels really pointless and static. Now, I know that the WvW team are doing their best, but I really wish for more out of WvW, so here is my wish list.

  • Disclaimer (most things in this list may not be possible because of game engine limitation, but I’m throwing them out there anyway)

1. More (sieges and vehicles). If you saw the Chinese trailer for GW2, you can see that the Charrs have many huge war machines, and I want them in WvW for more dynamic battles instead of zerging.

2. (One big map) I hate the 4 map instance. Instead, I would love to have the Desert Borderlands and Alpine Borderlands connected with Eternal Battleground.

3. (Guild castles and decoration) Guild halls are cool, but I would love if we can claim our own castle in WvW and be able to decorate it for as long as we hold it + add more awesome castles similar to “Stonemist Castle <3”.

4. (Airships combat) I have always wanted Airship to Airship battle. I even told my Guildies many times how cool that would be. After seeing the Heart of Thorn’s expansion trailer and the epic Airship summon, it made me euphoric, so thank you for that.

5. (Navy combat) Guild Wars 2 has the most beautiful underwater that I have ever seen in a video game and an easy/fun control. So it’s a shame that there aren’t any ships and boats that we can control + battle with, in WvW.

Thank you for reading, you may agree or disagree, but this is how I feel about WvW and what I wish it could have been.

I agree, I like how Guild Wars 2 PVE is cooperative. Also, you’re right there is WvW. However, the idea for this game mode is different from WvW, and it will not stop PVE from being cooperative. It’s own game that’s like “Mercenaries vs. Bandits” that level 80 players can choose to play by talking to an NPC in Lion Arch. In addition, I don’t know why you believe that this game mode will stop PVE from being cooperative. Since I believe I explained how it’ll not effect PVE in my previous post.

Hello, before anyone gets upset over the idea of an open world PVP, please hear me out. Since GW2 added “Silverwastes” into the game, I kept thinking about the PVP Bandit option that they have at the POI “Remnant’s Retreat.” I like the concept of it, but I wish if they expanded on it. I personally have few ideas on how they can do that without interrupting PVE players. Also, I think it’ll be a fun PVP mode, so here is how it will work.

To start with, here is a rough idea of how the mechanic will work. Allow players to steal goods like silver and some unique skins, but nothing crazy. In addition, allow players to kill NPCs stealthily as bandits in towns. blade eyes.2034

Hello, I’m hoping that ArenaNet may see this and get some ideas out of it or let us know that they’re already thinking of it. First, as the title have stated WvW for most part has been the same old thing and I think the reason for that is as follow.

When GW2 was released they had a ranking system that wasn’t good, but the main problem was the fact that when your server Ranked up, nothing changes. By “Nothing changes” I mean the fact your still playing on the same map. The only thing that was changed is your Rank number and the names of the servers your fighting. I believe that wasn’t enough to make players feel like something have changed, I know I felt that way.

So, I think ArenaNet should add different maps for different ranks and yes I know that’s a lot of work, but WvW is failing and it’s not fun playing on the same map for 3 years. Also, hopefully they’ll reuse that Desert map and learned from it.

aside from that, I don’t know the limitation of GW2 engine, but I hope they one day may add a Navy combat/charr & asurans vehicles. Players on Airship combats? Okay, that maybe to much :p thanks for taking the time to read this~

I have a question,

So i pre purchased the hotw expansion like 2 days ago,and it seems like i did not understand how the “core game” works.

All i received was a cd key for hotw,i was expecting to get another GW2 core cd key, that i could use to make an account for my brother.

This may work for the new players who get hotw and the core game while making a new account, but what about us? Isn’t it like the “core game” is lost when you upgrade your 3 years old account to hotw?

(sorry for bad english)

Furthermore, we have our Guild on forums and sides like reddit, but I also have invited great members from the map chat that are super Active in game and joins us on Mumble etc. Also, I believe that’s how most Guilds got their members when the game first came out. I know that’s how I found my guild.

When it comes to how the guild board should work, I think there should be a list of all the NA & EU servers so, you can find the guild that’s from your server, and add box check for things like WvW guild, Pve guild, Spvp guild or a guild that does everything.

You know what Heart of Thorns need? add looking for guilds in to that guild sup hall in Lion’s Arch. I like new members joining our guild, but I hate spamming looking for members in every city, and I am sure that a lot of people who are looking for guilds are having hard time.
