I wish we were viable in raids:( I really enjoy the hammer animations, but unfortunately we offer to much variety as a class.

I’ve asked about this before, but with the apparent nerfs to Chrono, will we be pushed up into a viable role as a raid “tank” (we all know that GW2 tanking isn’t typical tanking) and utility support? I feel like we really suffer with being a jack of all trades. This is good in small groups where you may not be able to bring a build which excels at each specific need, but when you can have 10 people, you can pretty well cover everything.

Update on the Economy

The wrench in the works is that people tend to gravitate to what is easy and/or fun because this is a leisure activity first and foremost where wealth is almost a 100% superfluous thing.

That’s a very good point! I didn’t consider the fact that in the real world you need wealth (maybe not a lot, but some) to live. This isn’t the case in a game.

After reading through here, I’ve seen what appears to be some misunderstandings. In a free market based system, prices convey signals to producers as well as consumers.

Example (totally hypothetical, prices not to scale):
-Green wood costs 1 copper.
-Green wood is commonly used in low level crafting.
-With wood prices at 1 copper, it incentivises consumers to buy this material while also turning potential producers away from this material.
-With no incentives to produce green wood, it will be bought faster than it is marketed.
-This causes supply to go down and prices to up.
-Now green wood is 3 silver, which provides incentive for the producers to produce and sell green logs and also turns some consumers away from buying them.
-The green wood market will begin to turn, as supply becomes more abundant and prices drop.
-This ebb and flow will continue until the market reaches a stabilized point in which the peaks and valleys of prices aren’t very drastic.

Granted, this all assumes a perfect market and a consistent way of producing materials. Unfortunately, GW2 doesn’t provide “consistent” way to produce specific materials. For example, there may be a shortage in leather, but with no consistent way to farm this specific material, there’s no consistent way for producers to sell this. In my opinion, that is one of the main issues the economy faces. How can producers match an increase in demand if the supply is not able to be farmed efficiently? This is what causes some prices to rise more than others.

This is just my opinion on the situation based on what I’ve learned in macroeconomics classes and various market based lectures. None of this may apply to a video game market, as this is obviously not my area of expertise.

Please explain energy AND cooldowns on skills

“PvE revs are used to sit on a single legend all the time”
Untrue. Refer metabattle recommended skill rotation for PVE rev as a reference. Swop legends on cooldown to generate energy.

I think he meant that is what new revenants tend to do. He says that regenerate twice as much energy by switching. He is not advocating camping a legend.

Scrapper Raid Tank Build

Hey guys!

I really like the Scrapper and enjoy the hammer a lot. I was wondering if it would be possible to make a Scrapper tank build for raids? I have a beginning of a potential build, but note that I am a huge scrub when it comes to theorycrafting, so I am posting this here to see what changes you guys would make or if this is even a feasible idea.

Link to the build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASncTBVYhFpCubBsehlJjKc7Smvj+vr79W8ZGvAA-TBSBQBUSlgL8AAunOgDqujB3fwMKBviyPAcBAIFwFDtA-e

I am iffy about using inventions, but I wasn’t sure what else I could use there. Please list any and all changes you would make.

Thanks!

Question about raid armor

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: bplayz.1957

bplayz.1957

I am looking to get into raiding. I am almost finished with my first ascended set of armor. I have played for around 1000 hours but haven’t dedicated the time to getting ascended armor. I was looking at metabattle and noticed on some of the builds that they used assasins instead of berserkers. Is this min/maxing necessary just for a normal raid run? Not trying to speed clear or anything.

I would be going 27" IPS FreeSync because I am getting an RX 480. This card is just a temporary upgrade for a year or two at most, when I would like to get a Vega or Navi card. Thanks!

Hey guys,

Guild Wars 2 is my main stay in gaming. While I do play a ton of games, GW2 is my staple. That being said, I am upgrading my graphics card and monitor to suit later this year. Any of you playing at 1440p, does the game look better in 1440p or is the difference marginal?

A mobile armory is an a mobile app which lets you view your characters and stats. It’s not wow specific, but wow is the only other mmorpg I have played much. I love guild wars 2, played it about 10 times as much as wow if not more, but I thought the wow armory app was a nice little addition. Nothing to do with gameplay, I like guild wars game play so much better than wow.

Yea, I assumed they would. I don’t understand that choice, but I definitely don’t feel like they are nickel and dining us by including the game. It would’ve been $50 either way. Just more expensive for new players. That’s a barrier to the community growing.

Illconcieved brings up amazing points. It’s not just developers saying “oh we messed up, price change”. At the end of the day, they have to appease those who are responsible for funding of the game. Yes our purchases go arenanet, but they don’t just stop there. They have to pay expenses (payroll, bills, server hosting) and then ncsoft and investors get their return. It’s not like arenanet is just sitting on a cesspool of money. And, if like any other business, they have a lot less control of the financial aspect than you think.

I feel the same. I just want more info before I buy. I like this idea of the deal with the game included because it makes it much easier to get my friends to try playing as well as it will revitalize the player base.

I am a veteran player, having played since launch with intermittent breaks. I, like most other players have at least read all the debate and uproar currently happening. My biggest issue isn’t the price tag, that’s their right to set. It isn’t the inclusion of the base game because the game has been out for three years its value has depreciated. My biggest concern at this point in time is they haven’t revealed enough to make me want to prepurchase. I’m not going to skip out on the expansion. I will play it like most other people. I’m also not going to rage about them including the game because it helps the community grow and make it easier for them to create content moving forward. I think arenanets biggest mistake to this point is trying to sell prepurchase on hype alone. We have no promises of how many zones, no idea of the new challenging group content. Heck, I still don’t even know what my mains elite specialization will be. I really feel like if they had waited to give us more info and showed us this nice, beautiful, massive expansion instead of bits and pieces, this lash wouldn’t have been as severe. But at this point, players feel like they are being ripped by not enough content plus being charged for the base game. I have no problem with them including it. I just think they should’ve held off on the prepurchase release until they confirmed a more stuff about the expansion. I’m also very curious to see a red post on all of the fiasco going on. I think how they handle their desicion making this next week will be extremely important to soothing players.

Why Guild Wars needs an expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: bplayz.1957

bplayz.1957

A paid expansion would be an interesting idea, but it is just simply to big of a commitment for Arenanet, who have too small of a budget. They need to begin trickling in “expansion” perks (e.g. New races, profession, weapons, etc.) into the living story. The living story does not simply have to focus on a changing world, such as with lions arch, but possibly expand the world. An example, and keep in mind this is just an example and not the definitive story the game should take, would be to send the player with a small group to a new island to establish a new capitol. Then as later stories are released, the group could delve deeper into the island and gain the trust of the local inhabitants, opening them as a playable race. If Anet were to be really ambitious, they could take the certain skills the new race has mastered and develop a new profession out of them. Many people don’t consider how many avenues the living story model has to open new content and even “expansion” like content, it’s more or less the matter of an under budgeted game.
Tl;dr: Anet has options, but funds are an issue.

It just frustrates me that they are so worried to get new players, that they will sacrifice for the old ones. This game will be dead in a year unless something changes.

Arenanet we really need an expansion pack. The Living Story idea was a good idea, but the problem is that it isn’t enough to draw players in, or draw players back who have stopped playing. I don’t want to speak for the community, but I know many of the players I have played with said they would prefer one big expansion with a lot of new content, professions, and races, and play those and explore the new content and make new toons of the classes instead of getting a small amount of content monthly. I think an expansion with a new part of the map and story, such as a campaign of the norn reclaiming the far shiverpeaks or exploring other continents. This refresh will entice new players, welcome back old ones, and renew current players enthusiasm in the game. We would welcome an expansion with open arms.
