I’m trying to make a high burst/frequent backstab d/d & sb build. I’m using this build atm. I’m thinking of swapping Hard to Catch with Fleet of Foot.
After using this for a while, I felt I needed a bit more survivability.
Any criticism/suggestions would be appreciated.
Edit: I’m planning only mainly using this for WvW/sPvP.

If you go into Stealth and you shadowstep, you will still be in stealth and can perform stealth attacks, but your character will look like it isn’t in stealth.
S = Sword
D = Dagger
P = Pistol
SB = Shortbow
By “High Damage Thieves” I’ll assume you mean high burst, so D/D or D/P would be best.
When I browse the thief forum, I always see people saying that D/P is much better than D/D. Why is that? If I go D/D and run 0/30/25/0/15, with Infusion of Shadow, Hidden Thief, and Hidden Killer, I can pull off constant high damage backstabs. If I need to escape, I can use Shadow Step, Shadow Refuge, or Roll for initiative. CnD with Infusion of Shadow and Preparedness allow me to keep my initiative high, as well as frequent stealth. Does the pistol have some kind of huge benefit over dagger offhand?
It’s 2 am here. Don’t forget that there’s both American and European servers, meaning that the update will be inconvenient for someone no matter when it takes place.
Even if that’s the case, wouldn’t ~11 pm PST have been better? 6pm is prime time on US West, and I don’t think too many people are on at 7 AM, either.
Try out the rifle for your second weapon. If you have fast hands, it’s a great to switch, volley, cripple, go back to melee. Plus, it alleviates some of our issues with getting kited and runners. Additionally, rifle 3 and f1 track through stealth.
If it’s an issue of getting kited, wouldn’t Sword+Warhorn work as secondary as well? It gives swiftness and a leap, as well as a cripple on top of bladetrail. Also, the weakness really helps in teamfights imo.
Anything without a GS or Sword/Warhorn in the weapon set isn’t viable in sPvP because of the lack of mobility. Shield as an offhand is almost always absolutely necessary because it’s one of a warrior’s only defensive CDs.
So Axe/Mace is not viable for sPvP. It does comparable sustained damage to 100B builds, but lacks mobility, meaningful burst and defensive capability. The only benefit is a 2 second knockdown.
Here’s some current viable weapon sets:
Greatsword + Sword/Shield
Greatsword + Longbow
Greatsword + Axe/Shield
Hammer + Sword/Warhorn (debatable)
Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll probably go Greatsword + Something. I still don’t understand why people like to go X/Shield, though. Is the 3 second block really that strong?
If I go Axe/Mace, I am planning on going Sword/Warhorn and traiting Quick breathing. I’m a bit hesitant to go GS, mainly because of the slow attack speed and the recent quickness nerf. If I go GS, then I’ll likely use Rifle as a secondary.
So, which setup is better in
sPvP?
WvW?
PvE?
Thanks.
All that and you didn’t even cover the worst of the PvE nerfs. My healing and damage just went to crap with the cal-traps nerf. Venom builds are even more useless then they already were.
But don’t worry, they buffed warriors! again!
Buffed warriors? The global change on Quickness hit them. Hard. They just tried to soften the blow by buffing their kick. Their kick, of all things.
I have the same problem. Just yesterday I was running the game fine. I had forgotten to close GW2 after going out, and even after 4-5 hours, it was still running fine. However, today, it has started to crash after ~30 minutes of playing. My specs are as follows :
Intel Core i7 2600K 3.8GHz (OC)
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
2x GTX 560 Ti SLI
950W PSU
W7 64bit
Corsair 1700RPM Liquid cooling system
I am almost certain it is not an overheating problem, as I was able to leave it on for 5 hours on highest settings just the day before.
The game is just randomly freezing, and after it does, the sound goes buggy, and I have to force shut down my computer. I get no error report.
EDIT: I’m on 314.07, I have conducted a virus scan, I have run a defrag.
