Also, by crashing I mean it totally locks up the computer. It requires a hard reboot every single time.

I’ve been suffering from this exact same problem for a month now. Here’s my latest response from the Tech Support Team that fills me with hope:

Hi everyone,

I’ve been suffering from a freezing/crashing issue for almost a month now with no help beyond “try doing a clean install of Nvidia drivers” as almost every response. Until today. I had to share the help offered by the team.

Yep. I laughed so hard I almost cried!

What would you do if you were me? I’ve had the most ridiculous contact with the support desk you could possibly imagine – they have literally done a full circle on what they think the problem is.

I open the client in Admin mode, with Nvidia as my default graphics processor, I log in. The game opens in full screen mode with my graphics set to Performance. I move my mouse or step forward – game freezes. It freezes so hard I have to hard restart as I can’t access the Task Manager or anything else – no keyboard no mouse use. There is no crash log to be found anywhere on my laptop. Attached to this document is my latest GameAdvisor report.

09/02/2012 I first contact support. Support replies with update your Intel drivers. I comply. I still freeze. I inform support.

09/08/2012 Suport says configure your Nvidia graphics card, set to default. I comply. I still freeze. I inform support of no change.

09/12/2012 Support says run PingPlotter, send files. I can’t use it because I freeze and hard restart. I inform support.

09/13/2012 Support says ‘update your Intel drivers’ – which I did on 2nd Sept. Support also says ‘update your Nvidia to beta 306.02’ and asks for screenshot of location of GW2 files and Speccy file. I comply. I inform support of no change.

09/13/2012 Support asks for new GameAdvisor file of new changes. I comply.

09/14/2012 Support says thanks for file, wants Crash.log. I don’t have a Crash.log anywhere on my system. I inform support.

09/15/2012 Support wants me to run Gw2.exe with target ‘-log’ and send them the file. I comply. Log file is completely empty. I also update Nvidia to 306.23 before they waste a day to tell me. Inform support.

09/18/2012 Support tells me I have a 32xbit/Nvidia error and they’re looking into it. I have a 64xbit computer, I tell support I’m unhappy with their efforts and they clearly didn’t read any of my files at all. Frustrated doesn’t begin to cover it.

09/19/2012 Support apologises profusely, tells me to download Treexy and remove all drivers but not chipsets then to reinstall Nvidia Beta 306.23. I comply. I inform support of no change.

09/22/2012 Support tells me to configure Nvidia settings to default graphics processor – the exact same thing they asked me to do on the 8th Sept. I inform them of no change.

09/24/2012 Support tells me to contact Dell, that my Nvidia card isn’t set to default. It is the default. I inform support.

Crasher here. I just got a reply from Support – maybe you should all give this ago because I can’t complete step 3 DUE TO CRASHING. Any advice is very appreciated.

“Hello.

There is a free trial program called PingPlotter Standard which may be of some use to us in determining the health of your active Internet connection. We ask that if you are using a router, hub, or switch, to first disconnect this device and connect directly to your modem before running this utility. You may have to reboot your modem and/or computer to reestablish your Internet connection.

This program is not supported by NCsoft. You can find the program and information on how to use it at http://www.pingplotter.com/download.html

1. Please download and install the Standard version of PingPlotter.

2. Run the program and in the upper left corner you will see an “Address to Trace:” section.

3. Type in the server IP you find in game by typing in the command /IP while playing on your server.

4. Click the “Trace” button. Please allow the tool to run for at least 30 minutes even if you are unable to play, or you get disconnected during this time.

5. Click on the “Stop” button. Then, click on File -> “Save Sample Set” and save the file to your computer in a location that will be easy to find, such as your Desktop.

Please update your incident at the provided link and attach the report. If you encounter a problem such as excessive lag or Code=007, please tell us what time the problem occurred so that we can investigate that section of the report. "

Fine, something is wrong with my PC. I’m willing to accept that, but what is it? I had none of these connection issues during the betas or stress test. So why now? One of their suggestions is to open four TCP ports. Were those ports not used during the betas, because it didn’t seem to be a problem then. Said to remove our various protection software. That didn’t fix it, had that on during the betas too and there was no issue then. So what changed? I recently had my computer checked out, cost me $75 to be told that nothing was wrong just needs tad more space yet isn’t overheating even at present. So hardware wise everything is fine and unchanged. Only new software is this game. See where this is going? Only one change has happened, the game. If it’s some incompatibility, so be it, but tell me what it is. Yes, at this point I do expect that from Arena.Net, and I expect them to tell me how to fix it. I have three friends playing the game and they have no issue, so yeah, it does make sense that maybe part of the issue is with my PC, but considering my pc didn’t change during the time of the betas up through the launch, it’s fairly reasonable to assume that part of the issue is also something Arena.Net has changed.

Well freaking said!!

OmegaMan – join us other hundred or so crash-victims in this thread.. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Crashing/first
For some reason ArenaNet is merging all FPS and Crashing threads together, no idea why though.

Grizzle I’m just about to quit myself. Can’t believe all I’ve had is crashing – and the tech isn’t offering any useful working solutions. I’ve seen you in all the threads regarding crashing and I’ve tried everything you have and had the exact same nothing results.

Really disappointed. If it is my laptop I just want to know it’s my laptop so I can just give up, if it’s the game I’d just like to know it’s the game so I can know they’ll eventually fix it. Any news will do!!

Well I crash between 1second of gameplay to an hour of gameplay. Yes, I’ve submitted a support ticket. I am running:

Windows 7 Service pack 1, 64bit
Dell XPS 15, i7
6gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M
Using latest Nvidia driver 306.02
I use a Logitech laptop-cooler since my previous HP overheated and died – don’t even need it but prefer to be safe than sorry.

Here’s a list of everything I’ve tried to fix my Crashing/Hard Restart issues that don’t work:

Uninstalling GW2/clean installing
Uninstalling and clean Installing Nvidia, Intel, Dell and Win7 drivers
Selecting “Run as Admin”
Forcing GW2 to run using my Nvidia Card or Intel graphics
Having YouTube run in background
Using Msconfig to disable all non-W7 and non-Nvidia
Turning all GW2 settings to Low instead of Medium-High
Using GW2 in Windowed/Window Fullscreen/Fullscreen settings
Removing dust
Changing Nvidia Antialiasing to 8x/Multisample/Transparency/Off
Changing GW2 FPS to 30/60/Autoselect
Prayer.

Let me know if I’ve missed anything and I’ll give it a go.

Uh.. Why was the low FPS issue merged with a crashing thread? It’s not like the game crashes for most of us, it’s just nearly unplayable from the low framerate.

I’m wondering the exact same thing. I have to do a hard restart when my laptop crashes, and suddenly I’ve been merged with “Low FPS”. I don’t know much about computers so maybe someone could tell me why these two seemingly separate issues have been merged?

I submitted a support ticket, having the same crash problems. In mid-game the screen freezes and I lose mouse and keyboard control and need to hard restart. Godspeed!

Edit: I forgot to mention I’m running a..
Windows 7 Service pack 1, 64bit
Dell XPS 15, i7
6gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M
Using latest Nvidia driver 306.02
