You know what I find odd about these discussions: so many people talk about the importance of being able to identify with the character, but that only ever seems to apply to their gender matching yours. Nothing else.
Actually I would argue that isn’t true for most people who use this reasoning. I try to make my character like me in as many ways as possible more often than not, even when I’m not playing a human (which isn’t as often – my mains are almost always human), I try to imagine myself as whatever race it is and approximate it as much as possible – this includes build type, facial structure, hair and eye color, and so forth.
So how do you reconcile yourself with the fact your character is a bloodthirsty homicidal maniac?
I don’t think anyone else can really advise you. For me, it was easy – I wanted an engineer to complete my set, but had no real interest in levelling one. So I used my boost, ran it through VB to get the Scrapper elite and I’ve parked her in Silverwastes ever since
LS4 will introduce a new legendary weapon called The Packrat. All the ingredients will be items for which there is currently no apparent use in the game. No new sources will be added. You will only be able to craft it if you hoarded enough of each. I’m ready.
Well done – you’ve managed to keep one developer in coffee for a few months
If I ask the fastest way to get to London, I’d need to reveal what my starting location was.
Otherwise, planes, trains and automobiles are all valid answers.
Followed closely by a 4th birthday experience scroll and 40 tomes of knowledge
Given the minimal levels of literacy evident in map chat and even this forum, I’m sure that would end well.
I’m working on world completion for the tenth time. It’s one of my favourite parts of the game. And because every character is different, the overall experience is noticably different each time.
It’s also a way of measuring my improvement in various game mechanics. For example there were originally vistas that would take me many attempts to reach, or I’d have to resort to asking for help from a friendly mesmer; now I can waltz through most of those.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but I enjoy doing some of the metas. I complete several each week. I like the spirit of co-operation, the sense of accomplishment, and of course the loot! My favourites are Silverwastes, AB and DS; I have alts parked in each of those zones. I’m closing in on the Golden Child title, but I only do the meta when I’m in the mood – often I just run a few of the preliminary events and switch to something else.
Even if it cost 5g per 20 slot bag just to upgrade to 25 slot bag that would be great.
I don’t want to just craft the 25 slot bag and leave the rest of the 20 slot bags in the bank or destroying the bags just to discard their values just to upgrade player inventory space.
Given the existing premium for 20 slot bags over 18 slot bags, the charge would be more like 50g per bag!
Also, you can sell your old 20 slots bags on the TP; very few of them are account/soul-bound.
The reset issue annoys me because it either forces me to redo hearts or it forces me to race to get map completion so as not to repeat the hearts.
You only need do any heart once to count for map completion and reset doesn’t have any impact. You can do individual hearts on different days and the map will keep track.

I really hate earning mastery points. I need 20 more to finish all the HoT masteries and most of them are locked behind adventures which I find incredibly frustrating.
I also don’t care about achievements but I’m forced to go after them just to finish my masteries so I can earn spirit shards.
Nothing is locked behind Adventures. I haven’t done any Adventures and I have maxed HoT masteries with plenty of spares.
Sounds like very good news for anyone with that spec! I haven’t noticed any such improvement.
You can still replace your broken Caladbolg and do the quest.
So you know what the acronym stands for, but you seem to be unable to grasp the concept. You could play for another 10 years and never see a particular drop. Someone could login for the first time and get lucky. That’s the random aspect.
I don’t think RNG means what you think it does.
Adding my appreciation
I was stuck about 5 MP short in Central Tyria, which wasn’t really a problem as I don’t plan to go after any legendaries, but still it was good to tick that last box!
Another way to improve your story telling in the game is by adding more animated cats
My main at the time of Scarlet’s War was … a female Norn warrior
I’m curious if this is going to be ready for Episode 6 on July 25th..
Seems highly unlikely. And even if Linsey has had a chance to complete the work, it surely deserves a patch all to itself!
Everybody who starts GW2 now has an even mkore difficult time to max masteries if he doesn’t buy the S3 episodes.
But that’s ignoring the fact that the additional masteries are only required for S3 maps. If you haven’t unlocked S3 why would you care about lava tubes and oakheart essences?
I want to test a build or some tactics or whatever and look for some lonely trash mob.
Honestly if you can’t take down a lonely trash mob before someone else wanders by and kills it for you, then your build is a fail
A pretty unfair comparison considering I see people all the time spend the equivalent of a subscription in GW2 …
I think the key difference is that they don’t have to. I have racked up 6000 hours in GW2, having spent a total of 60UKP (30 for the original game and 30 for HoT). That’s one penny an hour; good value by any measure. All my (many) gem store purchases were funded by gold earned in game.
Whatever a kittenatrice looks like, I’m sure I want one!
We don’t need mounts. BUT … I would love to see a WvW cavalry zerg :-)
The problem in that trace is with the level3 ISP in Frankfurt
I thought fat feats were the challenges in the man vs food series.
it this silly boring nutshell could get broken open just through some good and meaningful quality of life improvements, good lord, then this would be such a great step forward for this game!!
You forgot the Auto Play mastery. Just build a golem that plays the game for us. We can then login once a year to see how we’re doing.
Once you’ve done a few iterations of those bounties, you’ll soon recognize the names and where they hang out :-)
Brisban Wildlands: Aerl the Silent
Harathi Hinterlands: Ezal the Quick
Brisban Wildlands: Flyrra the Remorseless
Gendarran Fields: Lenner the Eagle-Eyed
Kessex Hills: Ruye the Crimson
Kessex Hills: Temvay the Arrogant
Harathi Hinterlands: Ulssen the Anvil
Kessex Hills: Varre the Underhanded
Queensdale: Vic the Iron
Queensdale: Zirh the Venomous
If you have 240 tombs, you have other problems.
Just bear in mind that when that message appears, it is triggered by whatever algorithm anet uses to optimise the number of active map instances. No one has made any sort of qualitative judgement that it would be a good idea for you to switch. You have to do that. If you already have high participation or you can see the meta is progressing well, just hit ‘later’. You then have at least an hour before the map closes.
My advice is make a short list of everything you might need in that zone and ensure you cross everything off in one visit; then you need never bother making the potion again.
Don’t forget the frozen snow leopard cub :-)
Bitter Cold is a zone within BFF. Without the potion, you die within a few seconds in that zone. But at least you get an achievement just before you die!
You say you’re not interested in doing the story, but the advantage of the story is it helps you figure out the nuances of each new map.
I have to chime in on the side of those who had no issue with negotiating those four little hops! I visited Lake Doric for the first time last night and really enjoyed it. Got to the Peach Tree at the first attempt and I’m very average at jumping puzzles. There’s a vista in Caledon Forest which always takes me multiple attempts – definitely harder than this one – and that’s in a starter zone.
Hi Vayne
Thanks for replying – and for your offer of help, I’m on the EU server unfortunately
Thanks for explaining though, that helps! I have a question though – Are the stars always at the place where you should jump? It’s hard to figure out where to go, I have to get to the other side of the map and keep falling to my death.
Thanks
Claire
If you are still struggling with Dry Top, I’m on (EU servers) for a couple of hours most evenings (from about 19:00 UK time) and would be happy to give you a guided tour
We have a small guild of real life friends, a couple of whom are very casual GW2 players, so our weekly guild session often consists of such tours!
3 is easy; just place a bid at that price.
It’s ok to lose yourself on the map and explore the world, not for rewards or completion, but to enrich your imagination and find the little details you hadn’t thought of before.
Until you have the Been there done that title once you get that exploring ends.
Been There Done That only covers core Tyria though. You can still enjoy exploring all the new maps. I’ve been playing HoT since launch and still don’t have a character with 100% completion in TD!
There is no spoon
If someone plays 5-10 minutes every day for a total of 35-70 minutes in a week gets more rewards than someone whole plays 2 hours just on one day every week, then yes you’re obviously disadvantaged.
Except of course they don’t. If you only play 5-10 minutes a day you’re not going to get much more than the login reward and perhaps complete one or two simple dailies, whereas a 2 hour session is enough time to complete the SW, AB or DS metas with mucho associated loot.
It’s OK to run from point A to point B instead of Waypointing.
For me, preventing me from doing the dailies that I like doing
That’s the bit I don’t understand. Nothing is preventing you from doing that content regardless of whether it’s a daily or not. If you enjoy it, just keep on doing it.
Character scaling on lower level maps is the best feature of GW2. Given we play in open world I don’t understand how you think the mobs can scale instead? I could be fighting the same mob on my lvl 80 alongside a lvl 10 character in a starter zone. If the mob scaled to lvl 80, it would surely swat the low level character like a fly. The game wouldn’t feel more alive for them!

Closed two months ago with promise from Gaile of more info to follow.
I had a BL key drop yesterday for the first time in ages … and got a new glider skin. So I’m a happy bunny!
Except colour is derived from the Latin word “color”.
Odd timing for such a complaint. You can currently do your dailies without even leaving DR.
“just realized I don’t even know what to do with them "
I’m going round upgrading my characters’ aquabreathers to the Ascended versions (@500 berries + some UBM a time). Not particularly profitable but might save some gold further down the line :-)

I don’t need anything, but I applaud your generous initiative. I will ask my Skritta Claws to do the right thing this year :-)
