I’ll be passing on the Oct 31st event, have done the others , because it looks like it will either be during US worktime , or early in evening when kids are trick or treating. Apparently no one in the AN scheduling department has small children.

Would have liked to have seen it , but taking the little ones trick or treating trumps any video game activities.

Exact same issue past couple hours tonight – disconnects from game and gw2 site wont load either , all other sites fine though -

Gamebreaking , RAGEQUIT , ArenaNet duped us , lied , stole our money , took our jobs and kicked our dogs.

Did I miss anything ?

Who is to “blame” then ?

How did ArenaNet in any way force you to keep buying and keep trying after one , two , three , twenty , thirty keys and so on ?

Who is to blame for not learning , “hey , this might be a low chance on winning this lotto , maybe I shouldnt spend $$ unless it’s truly disposable income”.

And again , this is a cosmetic skin that is meant to be rare , they have accomplished this , and for you “haters” who think that you’ll be able to “ruin” AN , I feel quite confident that the VAST majority of players will be playing tonight , tomorrow , whenever , and they never even look at this forum , this thread etc. They simply play a game they enjoy and don’t worry about it.

In those chests you opened , was there something ? I don’t think you are opening blank/empty chests , they still contain everything they could have before.

You are just choosing to buy/spend $$ for the Halloween items.

How in the world is this anything AN is doing “wrong” as the chests are EXACTLY the same as before , now just with more possible loot.

It’s your own personal decision if the chance is worth it or not for the item that you hope to get , and whining after the fact is just amusing.

Someone please get the government involved. We can’t help ourselves , we NEED governments around the world to regulate and legislate everything. Otherwise how could adults be expected to take care of themselves and make decisions on there own?

no-one forced your hand in spending cash. there is an option to buy gems with gold. if you burned through your gold (such as i did) and resorted to buying with cash that is your choice not the devs. i stopped when i dropped my account gold down to 50silver and decided if i didn’t get one by then i wouldn’t get one. i haven’t spent cash and i understand the disappointment, but seriously if you spent cash you only have yourself to blame.

I did spend cash. I don’t mind spending cash to support Anet and future content. But that’s not what this is about. Even though I buy gems with supporting the game in mind, it’s not a charity donation. I expect to get something for that money. Namely I expect what is advertised. In this case it was Halloween “stuff” from the Black Lion chests. Not getting something rare I can deal with. But getting nothing Halloween related at all after opening 20-30 makes me feel taken advantage of. Plain and simple. I never cared for Black Lion chests. I bought them for this specific holiday, for the themed festive stuff specifically.

I used girl scout cookies as an example before and I will again: Every year people buy girl scout cookies because 1.) they are good 2.) even though there are equally good cookies elsewhere, the money is supporting something. Now pretend you buy $60 in girlscout cookies and when they deliver them you actually get some walmart brand cup-cakes. Well you didn’t buy cup-cakes, you didn’t want Walmart brand stuff. You bought girlscout cookies and that’s not what was delivered. For a lot of people, this will make them rethink supporting that organization in the future.

Beings fans doesnt mean you shouldnt have expectations of a company as a consumer.

If the Girl Scouts that sold you the cookies told you as you bought them that you were buying a chance , and chance only , to get Girl Scout cookies , otherwise would be generic crap then yes its the same.

I’m just waiting for the first person to whine about the devs preying on their addiction to video games and making it require time to play , then more time to play more.

I knew the AN devs were sitting around in a dark room plotting to try and ruin folks lives , first it will be Gamblers Anonymous needed , then Gamers Anonymous , finally it will drive people to drink more and AA meetings required.

The AN offices should be picketed immediatley for their lack of sensitivity.

Excellent decision on their part, thought that middle of US working day was a very odd time to pick to begin with for event finale.

There is a reason real governments have gambling laws. Because it’s not just another neutral practice. It’s a predatory practice that exploits people’s addictive behaviour to get them to spend more money for a good or service than they would directly spend on the good or service.

Ah gotcha , you want the governement to be able to tell a mmorpg company what they can and can’t do in regards to in game gambling/content etc.

We come from two completely different viewpoints where there is no middle ground.

Neither of your points matter in any way shape or form to the actual situation. ANET angered its best customers. End of story. ANET is a business, they made a bad business decision, their business will suffer for it. That’s literally everything that matters here.

But what you “supporters” are NOT recognising is that most people complaining are complaining about the crappy odds Anet put on the gamble chests! I think the people complaining have a point. Running a business doesn’t give you license to be greedy. It’s 100% possible. Plenty of businesses don’t lie or gouge their customers. If people keep accepting it then nothing will change. As it is right now most american companies would rather lie, cheat, steal, and gouge you for every penny you’re worth. They’d gladly throw you over a bridge if it made them money. If ya’ll keep accepting it they’ll keep doing it….

I’m not sure what your point was here. yes, I bought a game based on false promises. I’m annoyed by that okay. I try to enjoy the game…I find out I really can’t. I barely log in and pretty much have stopped playing. So where is the problem here? I say “hey anet this is the kitten I dislike and why I’ve stopped playing” and apparently this is wrong because why? Exactly where are you in my house to see that I’m upset? Have to agree, and the amount of QQing an whining I’ve seen from the people on here about not having everything in an event barely 12 hours old makes me feels for the AN devs.

I enjoyed the short time got to run around and check things out last night also.

Just wanted to note as said in another thread that plenty of us older , working , casual folks (and I be even lots of younger non casuals :P ) , think it’s fine to have rare items in the game that will be few and far between to get or be seen.

Some of us enjoy variety , seeing that person with the extrodinarily good luck with an incredible weapon skin very few have , or those folks with tons of time to farm some item and craft and then get to show off what they earned.

Since early EQ days , I much preferred having actual rare and interesting things in game that not everyone can or will get.

And as many others have noted on here , plenty enjoy the event as it , getting to take it in when they can , and if they can’t not whipping about the gimme gimme gimme tears.

So just wanted to note AN , there are plenty of us “casuals” who think it’s fine as is , don’t think everyone needs everything , and like the Halloween event.

I prefer there to be “rare” items. Ones I know I likely won’t get. Games are boring to me to see everyone have everything and look alike.

I’m glad that seeing X skin will be uncommon , dare I say , even rare , on someone.

So there are plenty of us “casuals” who don’t agree , aren’t whining , and don’t mind folks who have more time to play to have more things.

Just noticed in the patch notes that this update is very heavy on new Black Lion Trading Company (gem/cash store) items. Considering how much comes from chest, everything is leading back to the gem store. Seems this is a big part of their Halloween patch… Disappointing.

Agreed , I mean you’d expect them to give you lots of fluff costumes and keys for free since you pay a monthly sub fee.

How the hell is it “complicated” to not allow transfers every 24 hours ? How “complicated” is it to make it a higher time limit ? How “complicated” is it to see there’s ZERO reason anyone needs the ability to transfer every single day for free ?

Become a game developer and find out for yourself. It’s not just about code, but balancing game mechanics as well. What effect will limited transfers have on servers? What effect will it have on players? How often is too often? etc. There are many things that ANet have to put into consideration when making these changes.

As others have stated, there are many reasons for transferring – queue times can be a big one. It’s not always people transferring to the winning server, but they may never get a chance to go to WvW because of long queues, or they wish to party with friends in dungeons on other servers (no guesting).

You fail to anywhere show me why people NEED to be able to transfer for FREE , EVERY DAY.

Again , it’s not rocket science to see that allowing CONSTANT DAILY SERVER HOPPING causes far more problems than it helps.

People can avoid queues by transferring to a less populated server , they then DONT NEED TO DAILY KEEP TRANSFERRING.

Sorry , but you , nor any AN dev or other poster , has given a valid reason that the timer is set to allow you to transfer every single day for a good reason.

The queues excuse doesnt hold up , the play with friends one doesnt etc ,

After playing many races , many class combos to 20 or so (30 for ranger ) finally deleted all and settled on human guardian for my one main I want to level. (Just enjoying GW2 tons everything from PVE to WvWvW and taking my time.)

Anyway as example on warrior , the 5 signet +crit chance route is almost impossible to avoid for initial leveling anyway.

Was just curious if there seems to be a general concensus on your first 10/20 points into traits for all around leveling ?

Not looking for uber build and enjoy experimenting , just was curious if there a low lever trait or two that seems to be “must have” or almost detrimental to not go with initially ?

How did you not see the terrible effects that allowing free daily transfers has on server communities overall in and out of WvWvW ? At least should have been a higher delay on transfers , allowing free daily ones is just a bit ridiculous.

And also , it seems like MMO Dev 101 to have a delay on logging out. Games since EQ didn’t let you escape death by disconnecting , just seems another amateurish oversite on your part to allow people to escape death in PVP with a simple alt-f4.

Just a bit surprised at the bad transfer decision and the very obvious game mechanic of having characters stay in game 5-10 secs after disconnect missing from what seems like an experienced team.
