Funny. I haven’t played GW2 for a few years and was thinking of trying it again. I thought to myself: I wonder if they stopped nerfing the mesmer. Let’s go find out.

This is the first thread I read.

I like it. Anyone can be good at something but passion is what makes someone go from good to great.

I also find it important that you mentioned you have a long ways to go with learning what it takes to make games. You realize that you don’t have all of the answers and don’t feel entitled to things. I’ve heard and seen a lot of younger people these days have a huge sense of entitlement. So I feel this is a good point you made.

I give it an A.

I like the current way the illusions are handled (being more disposable and lasting only on one mob). It is nicely balanced with fast cast times on them. I find the class to have a good satisfaction of doing things right (ie: manipulating multiple phantasms on several mobs at once). Sure, it takes a few more key presses and a bit longer, but it looks cool and makes me feel good.

Also, this class is one that really gets a lot better with more traits. It is almost a night and day difference at level 40 than it was at 20.

I actually don’t want illusions that persist after a mob dies. I’m not really fond of pet classes.

Either way, there are some minor problems with the class, which are covered in other threads.

The GS seems quite a bit better after playing solo PVE with it for a day since the buffs. I actually feel like I can use the abilities to do some good damage.

I think if they tweaked GS3 to have a bigger AE radius and not root, it’d be a large improvement. I used a combo of Staff and GS for dynamic events to tag as many mobs as possible. Sometimes it works out, sometimes (mostly) it doesn’t…

Not sure what you mean by biased. It was flat out necessary to allow them to endure long enough for a second use of their phantasmal attack in practically every pull trash included of a dungeon. Now they’re nothing but targets unless you have a necro running plague form around.

Sorry, when I said biased, I meant because I played the class

I guess we can hope for Arenanet to make a change.

You’re right dayrinni. No pets in this game have any AoE damage reduction.

Figured as much. I wonder how much that would help in dungeons and PVP.

I also wonder what %’s the phantasms get from our stats?

Before the bug fix on the signet, I did notice a big difference in my phantasm’s survivability. I did feel like it was way more than 50% and actually thought it was bugged before it got patched. I’m probably biased, but I thought it was worth it because it did take up a single slot skill and they are precious.

I do not know the answer to this question but I assume the answer is no: our phantasms have no built in AoE damage reduction?

The real purpose of illusions is to be shattered. They’re the opposite of a tanking pet and I don’t mind that they get nuked. I typically shatter them at 2 illusions anyways. The only diffference I’ve noticed with mesmer is that even small fights require tactics. There’s no mesmer faceroll. You maybe charge a mantra, mirror image, chaos field, shoot a few times, shatter, clone, swap weps, illusionary zerker, snare, use mantra, invisible cloak clone, maybe chaos shield or another chaos field. Great! That centaur is dead!

If this was true, then we wouldn’t have so many traits that boost/buff our phantasms. I’m not saying they aren’t meant to be shattered, but you can use them in different ways if you want (ie: buffing their damage, HP, etc).

Well, It’s always like this one games now days. Quite frankly. But I agree that they could nerf the Theif class damage output some. Also they can reduce the damage of the mesmer ablities the duplicating ones. Sience they make sick damage.

dont agree with the mesmer phantasm damage.

mesmer cant damage, mesmers phantasms can damage.
there is no other skill utiliy that does dmg for mesmer.

and to increase phantasm damage properly, (2k 3k 4k) mesmer needs to use all traits for phantasms.

Aah, Well his phantasms could atleast be reduced to not as many in my opinion, It gets sometimes way to confusing whatever is happening, atleast in sPvP it’s just ridiculous.. trying to kill that guy, Though he is said to be the best 1v1 and that is true, But could need to intreact with some more skill base in the phantasms, Sience it takes no skill to just spam em out. So i’ve heard.

there was a bug that gave them an extra 250% HP for a signet. so they should be even easier (is this even possible?) to kill now

Fixed a bug with Signet of Illusions. It now give phantasms 50% more health instead of 300% more.
