Pushing full teams and solo queue are both important. I would be a fan of have of having a separate solo queue and queue that requires a full team of five. But then the issue becomes having too many queues.

Since Anet has decided to merge queues I thought of this as a possible solution.

As a game design student I think about the queue system for this game a lot (could use a lot of work), but had one idea I wasn’t so sure about and wanted to hear other peoples opinions on.

What if you were not allowed to queue in a group of four?

IE. solo queues only placed against solo queues, no exceptions
duo ques and trio ques against each other, no exceptions
And full teams against full teams, no exceptions

If you had a team of four you could easily pug the last person on map chat, or just play with three, so this would not be an issue to me, but I was wondering the rest of the communities ideas on this?

They had intentions of making it for 360/Ps3. They did not because they though it would be difficult to keep up with patches on multiple systems.

Honestly they should just make a Xbox exclusive, so they could play with PC online, and only one console to manage updates on.

They could focus on console before macs, macs aren’t even meant for gaming so there would be a much larger clientele for a consoles. And would run smoother than on a Mac.

Especially that Xbox one has released, if they were thinking of releasing on 360, should run well on the one. Also with eso they have an example to follow..

I was just wondering if anyone had given any thought on this? The new camera system looks perfect for a controller, and I do remember when the game was originally going to launch they were planning for console play.

Now Xbox can play online with PC’s , and has support for keyboard/mouse if people complain PC users had advantage. Most people play PvE anyway so wouldn’t be too big of an issue.

Would be a lot of work I’m sure but would bring a huge influx of players, especially if the core game would be free on Xbox live. Would also bring a lot of players that don’t have the nicest gaming PC’s that couldn’t plat the game before.

1. nerf quickness to 25%. Will solve a lot of issues with rampage. Increase duration of some quickness buffs in the game to compensate for other gamemodes (pve)
2. give an good alternative strenght adept trait. maybe move leg specialist there. restorative strenght fits quite good into tactics.
3. make burst skill immune to blind or let them at least proc cleansing ire without hitting. gives warrior some chances against mesmer.
4. somehow buff warrior defense. lets say a 10% damage reduction while having might?
5. chance berserker stance to pulsing resistance (3*3s). would help alot against condi burst builds.

1. Quickness used to be 100%. and them they nerfed it to 50% and it was unviable for 2 years. Its finally in a good spot now we don’t need another nerf.

2. I agree, death from above is useless in pvp, restorative strength is useless when using healing signet, and peak performance is useless without rampage.

3.Watch to see when you have blind and don’t waste your burst skill.

4. I don’t think it is necessarry

5. Way too big of a buff, Bezerker stance is already proably the strongest utlility for warriors, and we have some of the most condition removal already.

My suggestions,
1. revert hambow nerfs
2. buff shout heal to something like 2k per shout with celestial
3. switch cleansing ire and spiked armor.

No matter what everyone is going to choose cleansing ire as the grandmaster trait for defense. If these were switched and CI was the grandmaster minor trait, you could choose last stand, spiked armor, or resounding resiliance as a grandmaster giving you more options.

4 pulses
2 seconds interval per pulse
6 adrenaline per pulse
2 seconds of resistance per pulse
40 seconds recharge

then we’re good.

berserker stance has been working as intended since its introduction.

I could actually get behind something like that. Though I’m mostly against short duration pulsing. So I’d personally prefer:

9 seconds base duration
3 pulses
3 seconds interval per pulse
10 adrenaline per pulse
3 seconds of resistance per pulse
45 seconds recharge

Still, yeah I can get behind a reduced CD/higher uptime if it gets made into resistance and in some cases it would actually offer more use to warriors as they won’t take damage from condis till they can get to a place to cleanse.

Pulsing resistance should be the last thing they do, because then it really has no counter play. Removing the boon would nothing because it would just reapply.

Let’s not forget that changing it to resistance would be a buff of sorts because it would make all current conditions inactive ( which it currently does not )

So either give it a buff and add counter play, or leave it as is, but do not suggest the extreme op idea of pulsing resistance… we have enough condition removal through shouts, brawlers recovery, cleansing ire, and quick breathing

Why Stronghold before Arena?

I was just wondering why people think they decided to introduce the stronghold gametype before arena?

We already have one game mode made for teams. In my opinion, would it have not been more wise to add another game mode for smaller groups, or another game mode for more casual / solo play?

Instead they made another game mode for the same team queue player base?

You could argue Stronghold is the more casual/solo-able game type, but with the the leaderboards coming out, and being able to queue for stronghold in ranked or unranked, it does not seem to be the case.

The community has made it very clear that 2v2 or 3v3 is something this game definitely needs (through tournaments & forum posts) I personally know many people that will not play this game solely because the are no arenas.

The Annihilation/Arena game mode could have been the solo game type and the small team game type. By splitting it into two queues ( unranked soloq + Ranked team queue with leaderboards )

Now if this where to happen we would have six different queues, plus the server browser.

What does everyone think? Should conquest and stronghold have separate queues? is stronghold a preferable game mode to arenas?

I don’t think ultra-competitive games like LoL have any incentives besides cosmetics and leaderboards either and everyone seems to love them.

Very true, the only problem is our current leaderboards do not accurately put the best teams/players on top, or give an accurate representation of how good you are.

Cosmetics are valueless because any pve player, even those that are terrible at the game, can get all the armors much more easily than an actual skilled PvP player.

So yes, increasing your skill is the only incentive at the moment. But at the moment only you or your team can really be the judge of how good you are/ better you’ve gotten because the leaderboards are not accurate, and the less skilled players have all the best cosmetics.

Another incentive would be Gear only available through PvP.

Low tier PvP armors ( 2-3 sets) , available only through a PvP reward track
Mid tier PvP armors ( one for reaching top 1000, one for entering top 500)
High tier PvP armor – winning a weekly tournament ( arena or conquest)
Highest tier PvP armor- winning a WTS tournament

These plus a mmr based guild leaderboard would be a great start.

Frankly, I used to play wow (oh noes!) and the incentive there was to obtain better gear so then it would be easier to kill your opponents.

Well the whole point of pvp here is no grind/even & balanced gear.
So with that idea, getting better gear becomes getting better looking / more rare gear.

I feel like the true incentive of WoW was the rating. All this game needs the return of a MMR based leaderbord, and with guild leaderboards coming out, we would finally have a second reason pushing us to play / find teams( besides the fun factor )

I think they should remove the ability to solo queue into ranked queue… but remove team queue from ranked? I don’t think I agree with think I agree with that.

Conquest is made to be played with a team and plays out much better that way.

Solo q needs a different game mode before a separate queue.

Either like a random 3v3 arena or they could even make stronghold only solo queue, as it reminds me more of a fort aspenwood game type opposed to gvg.

Edit: To add to my reasoning, I believe unranked is a place to play with people that are not in your set team of 5, where you can play with your friends no matter how good they are, and not worry about your rating. that being said leaderboards need to be mmr based. And even though this is the case i win the majority of my soloq/duoq unranked games, so I’m sorry you had a bad day of games but they should not remove team queue form unranked.

lol If you have multiple rangers or mesmers or thieves etc. you do have a much more likely chance to loose in solo q.

I don’t get the negative responses… I always play my games till the end, I’ve won many 4v5s because of that but if you have 4 out of 5 people that are willing to resign because of bad composition or whatever the issue… I don’t see why not ?

Worked very well in GW1.

Yeah I agree. The thing with pvp players is a lot will teak breaks and I’m sure many missed the lfg announcement. And if its right in your face like that many more people are bound to use it, which is will definitely help the community.

Well of course some players are going to be more reserved than others and prefer to play by themselves, but I think many others would want to find others to play with. It is just makes it easier for people to find friends to pvp with.

Well with the lfg tool you make a party so you queue with the same group instead of new people each match. You can make a group with a good team composition rather than having like three thieves for example.

Of course since you don’t know these players or how good they are, you queue for unranked and if you do well you can do ranked. Or you can just meet people as you go from unranked that you think are good or want to play with in the future and add them to your friends list. It just encourages people to form groups.

What I am proposing is a very simple addition that would greatly increase the community and amount of teams in PvP.

At the top of the screen, where your PvP UI is located ( right now there is only PvP Build and Play PvP buttons), add one more tab for LFG.

The LFG tool is already in game, BUT NO ONE USES IT ! I am not sure if people don’t know if it is there, or no one uses it because there is no one else looking for a group…. but if they put it right on the PvP UI, many people, especially new players to PvP, would use it because it is much easier to find and much more accessible.

Anet could easily just add the button and make it link to the existing LFG tool and auto sort you into the PvP section, or they could make it match the fancy new PvP UI. Either would work!!

Thanks for reading, hopefully Anet sees this because I think it would be a very easy and very big change for this game.

My name is DDay, you may have seen me trolling around with Ronald McDonald in NA
Im r80 so i do have a bit of experience, ( Warrior looking for team )
im in college to be a game designer, so i think about this kind of stuff a lot.

Courtyard
I think people have made it pretty obvious something is wrong with courtyard. yet still every time it pops up on map vote people vote for it…

Why? well its a change of pace and definitely has potential, but there a couple changes that need to be made to this map that I believe will give every one a better experience.

Option 1- Annihilation
Now this is speaking mostly for Unranked queue, But every time this map pops up, it is a total blowout for one team.

Why? without proper communication a team will get staggered from respawns ( yes even with 15 sec wave respawn) and will come out on or two at a time, and get stomped repeatedly, ending the game usually 500-0. Sometimes the loosing team will get around 100 points but that is still very one sided. People want close games not blowouts.

This map is decided by the initial engagement, whoever wins the first engagement wins the whole game. So why not make the map no respawn annihilation?

Option 2 – Changes to Respawn/Points
Pretty much the idea behind this is making a two out of three without making a whole new system for it. My idea was increase each kill to 50 pts, with a 90 second wave respawn time. This should give enough time for the entire team to respawn together, while 2 full team wipes will result in a loss ( 10 deaths = loss)

Seperation of queues
Well reading the forums i feel like i am the only one that thinks this is a good thing.

This is a team based game. There should of never been a leaderboard for soloq in the first place. Soloq should be something for fun to do when your teamates/ friends are not online, not to be made competitive. There are far too many discrepancies to make an accurate rating.

This inclusion of unranked queue is great because now people are no longer afraid to hurt their rating by playing with new people. This is great because it encourages people to find others and form new teams. You can solo here queue here, pick up good players on the way, and find a team to play with much more easily.

More teams = Better Gdubs

TLDR; Change courtyard to no respawn annihilation, or 2/3
Seperation of queues/ Unranked queue is a good thing

Well this is a team game, and if you want to be ranked among the best of players you are going to have to do so.

If you would like to play solo for fun play unranked.

and if you are 10-3 solo in ranked what is the problem? your record is not bad.

Either way, solo q is not competitive, and there shouldnt be a leaderboard imo.

Well first of all spvp stands for structured pvp not solo pvp if thats what your thinking.

But in my opinion there should have never been a leaderboard for soloq in the first place.
They were never even close to accurate anyway.

This is meant to be a team based game, and solo q is supposed to be something to do when you dont have any friends or teammates on.

So just do unranked for soloq, and you will have a much better experience, because ranked arenas should be a place for skilled teams, and you should be getting crushed by those teams if you solo q into ranked imo.

Two concerns about Bleeding Shot

my warrior with 1 566 power and 828 condition damage, lists Bleeding Shot as dealing 264 damage… followed by a 756 bleed. Changing that to just 317 damage is a 69% damage reduction

if your using rifle with condition damage your doing it wrong.

Im really unhappy about this nerf. Condition warrior now has no long-ranged weapon. and I don’t care what anyone says, the Longbow is not a condition weapon, just because it gets like, a 1 second burn that can hardly be boosted

Longbow is definitely the long range condition weapon.
your speaking of fan of fire but you forget about combustive shot which your can almost keep a constant up time of burning ,
and lets not forget burning is the best condition in the game
and also pin down which gives 6 stacks of bleeding…
how is that not a condition weapon???

once again, if your using rifle as a condition weapon,
youre doing it wrong.

u have to choose one, condition or power.
ur not going to get anywhere running a scepter dagger build/staff with a knights amulet.
all your weapon skills are condition damage, only power u have is ur wells.

if you want to be tanky you can try MM necro, which will be the easiest option for you to play since you are new to pvp, and you will still do good damage.

your opinion of balance in this game is very off…

classes have different health pools and toughness for a reason
can you imagine how op a guardian or ele or thief with 24k health would be?
it is because they have other utilities and heals that classes with more health do not have.
or in a thiefs case stealth and insane mobility

there is no 10k- 50k health pools..
no low tier health class would ever put no points into vitality.. so its more like 15k-25k

Class base health:
Warrior, Necromancer 18,372
Engineer, Ranger, Mesmer 15,082
Guardian, Thief, Elementalist 10,805

and for rock paper scissors game play,
yes some specs have very good chance of beating other specs,
but this is balanced as a team game not for 1v1s.
any profession can beat any profession,
but not every spec can beat every spec. (if they are both equal skill level)
thats how it was in gw1, and thats how it is in this game as well.

It is not 5 people focusing 1 guy with the wrong class,
for example people often focus the necromancer first.
why? he poses the greatest threat in team fights.
yes, he has some of the least defenses (also why he is in the highest tier health pool)
but he has to counter that with skilled positioning.

overall, balance in this game is not perfect, but it is in a good place imo.
every class is used in top tier game play, some a lot more than others,
but it is headed in the right direction.

Spectate Mode should be removed from Hot-join

then add spectate to top rated play, where it actually matters.

No… Then that opens the door to a whole new problem. People join SoloQ and see their team is full of “noobs” and say well I have no chance here and I don’t want to waste 8 minutes carrying a team… and they leave. Good thing the que line is down now; so that player can just keep joining soloQ until he gets in a team full of players he wants.

Hot join is working as intended, the problem is team stacking which is enabled by a broken spectate mode.

more people queuing up = more accurate matchmaking
which means newbies will be placed with each other rather than more skilled players

and if people leave then they get dishonorable
which should be harsher (one stack should give like an hour or 30 min of no play)
but thats an argument for a different forum

Stunned → shrug it off → Feared 2s later → “Shake it off!”

u get 1000 for 4 seconds after shrug it off, and when u use shake it off it is still 1000 toughness, and does not stack duration but goes back up to 4 seconds.

after patch it will be 8 seconds.

i wouldnt use shrug it off with this build, rather use balanced stance( 1000 toughness+8 sec of stability) then shake it off untill balanced stance is off cd.

you dont need to break stun for balaced stance to proc resounding resiliance btw.

i would put the points in discipline rather than tactics, fast hands no matter what is a must but i prefer to have burst mastery in my builds as well for better condi clears but u could take shrug it off instead of burst mastery

just a question to my fellow warriors; why did this go out of meta?
When seeing everyones builds on top teams ive noticed no one uses it anymore.
I think after april 15th update and buffs to might runes.
I always use it.. when using three stances thats a lot of vigor uptime.
is the -12 second recharge on signet of rage really that worth it?
i get the want for more might uptime, but with our low cd fire field and 2 low cd blast finishers ( one for axe/sword, but we get fire aura instead)
is that really worth getting rid of the vigor?
whats your reasoning?

i got them through playing pvp. very few of the unlocked traits are ever used in pvp anyway.
No one really uses the amulets either.
