Vayne, I love that you are doing this. I’ve said in multiple threads now that it feels like a significant number of players gave up on HoT before they really even got started because they decided it was too hard.

I’m no HoT expert by any means, but if there’s anything I can do to help you help others, I’d love to participate.

This is a nice thing to do. I am in this guild with Vayne, and there were many times it is announced we will go run some HPs for those that need it. We are all on mumble talking and laughing , sharing tips and/or explaining something about the game.

Although I understand the many reasons why we might not want to get on teamspeak, or rely on others. But it really can be more enjoyable with others as we can accomplish more together then solo. Heck,we even did the 5 bounty the other day within the time limit with time to spare. Part of that is due to a fellow guildie with the uncanny knack of zoning in and finding a bounty within 10 seconds.

It is OK to ask for help, as many do enjoy helping. Just have to find the right groups of people .

Black Lion Chests count as gambling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

disneyrich.3901

Just wanted to add another point to consider. I won’t go into all the comments as some have made good observations into what counts for gambling, vs what is essentially a raffle ticket for some unknown prizes.

As Vayne said, I also used to buy cards. You are buying a pack of unknown cards. Quid pro quo. You get this for that. Yes when you get 10 cards you already have, it blows. But it works as it gets you to buy more.

You buy a key you will get 3 of something . Now you may not like or need what drops, but that doesn’t matter. Money(key) for 3 things.

I was a casino dealer, and again not to go into to many details about the job, butI would consider that the very definition of gambling. You have a very very very good chance of losing all your money with nothing to show for it. You just gave the casino $5000 for the ‘chance’ to win more. You lost, you got kicked in the kittens, and you go home with nothing. (Usually blaming the dealer as if we made you plop your money on the table lol ) Well, they may give you a free dinner, but it is not worth $5000.

Gambling in this game would be, to me, is you buy a key , open a chest, and you get squat for it. But since that doesn’t happen, you are guaranteed 3 items from a pool of items. Same as buying cards.

Thanks for reading.

Also just saw Palador post after I did mine! yeah for 2 minds thinking of how casinos handle gambling!

Edit..ugh I guess I edited it and it got reposted. So I deleted the original and left edited post

Anet Needs someone to Talk to the Forums

Pretty much anyone who’s not me. lol

Something that’s a cross between public relations and customer service. Someone who can help to mollify irate fans, or at least assure them their concerns have been listened to.

Not someone that works at Anet now that needs to take time out of their busy schedule. Not moderators. Not a developer.

If people’s complaints are being heard, Anet needs to say so…not just once in a while. They need to keep saying so. Otherwise, people will simply feel disenfranchised.

I’ll do it! I think I could do it out of my house. Would not even have to go to Seattle. I work at a very popular vacation area and I can deal with tourists from all over the world. I think I can handle this position!

Im assuming you bought skin from gem store? You have to choose, and choose wisely what armour you transmute it onto. You can ONLY do this one time, unless you use a transmutation crystal. Its best to wait till you get the level 80 armour you want

Then the drops are not specific like people are telling me. Either way I see Different then what I am being told so I just stick to my little group and if I get something that I think belongs to them I hand it over to them.

Not sure why I’m getting into this, but I’ll bite. But from seeing your post history, does lead one to a picture of how open minded you are. As there are tons of good fun guilds out there. I am in one that is fun and laid back. We don’t care what job you bring, but we can all share ideas on what works in what situation and how to make yourself a better player

What they are saying is the drops are specific to you.. as in , its YOUR loot. Yes, you may be playing a light class , and all your drops are medium or heavy, or getting weapons you can’t use. That STILL means they are YOUR drops. If your wife, as you say is getting drops/items you can use………….guess what? She can send them to you. Problem fixed.

When the game launched and my guild did dungeons we were sending each other all the greens and blues we did not need. As others have said, all you keep saying you seen this and that. Well, not many really believe you unless you start showing proof, which the burden of proof is on you sadly. All you have to do is hit that print screen button and all your gw2 pics are saved to the folder and then you can up load them. Im guessing you wont, because you know what it will show.

As Vayne said, you might have boosters and the account xp bonus. But in no way would xp be cut if you are in a party or not. Then leveling would be SLOWER. I have leveled faster with more people doing events , as more mobs come and therefor get more xp per time spent.

Hi Chris and everyone,
I am also late to this party but wanted to add some ideas to the housing idea, and forgive me if it was mentioned before, it’s hard to keep up with the thread at times.

There have been some very good ideas across the board. I will try not to go into a lot of details but will give some ideas from my only other extended experience with a mmo. Hopefully some of those ideas could be expanded upon for GW2

Chris I am not sure if you were familiar with FFXI and how it handled its “housing” which was really a room. You entered it from each of the cities, you basically walked to the zone to enter the ‘neighborhood’ and then went to your instanced room. This could work outside of our PS instance and having a different area in the racial cities where we can enter our ‘neighborhood’. ( I am one to believe instancing a home/housing instance is probably the safer way, so I write from that frame of mind). Now since FFXI was just a room, I think it was small for what we could do now. I think a more enjoyable place could be something that has a outside ‘yard’ and of course the inside ‘house’

Now, your room was basically a grid pattern(minus the carpet in the middle) where you could place items, and was also a supplemental place to store your stuff.(basically our bank) Items that you placed in your room(furniture, plants ,tables, decorations, etc..) had a few perks to them, so to speak. Each item had a elemental affinity, which gave a slight +/- to those elements. They also had a storage capacity. If you put a table in your room, it might have +3 storage. So you used up one space in your bank, but then you opened up 3 more in another tab.( don’t think that will really work for GW2 but wanted to explain that part of their system).

I will try to briefly put out some ideas for what could work for a nice home instance. Different aspects of crafting could be introduced for obvious things like furniture, or manequins( for certain armors, dungeon, racial to show off. Kind of how our HOM was ) pots for a possible gardening(maybe to be able to plant and grow say certain gathering mats?)

Now I think that for completing certain achievements, or say Personal story lines,(future story lines ) you can get a painting, or banner to put on a wall. I believe others have suggested ideas like this also. It’s a good way to show off and to remind yourself of the adventures you had.

FFXI also would use Holiday Rewards that would go into your room. Example, for the Wintersday Meta, you could get a pick of , say, a holiday tree based on one of the races and that could go into your house.

Also it would be a good place to have Gem Shop furniture/décor There was a piano that you could only get if you bought a certain music cd. When you were in your room, the piano would play the musical them from time to time.

The part of the housing that ffxi had , that would have to be carefully considered, is if any or some of the items you place would give bonuses/perks for certain aspects of the game. It could easily throw things out of whack. We already get our +1s from the achievement rewards and WvW. I know in PvE we all work together, but others can see it as unfair, or even dare I say Mandatory that someone has 5% damage to say Icebrood from certain items in their house. I think we would have to decide what, if any perks we get from say different quality items in our house.

This is a bit longer then I thought it would be, I know I could ramble a lot about each idea, but wanted to just put some ideas out there, and support the idea of a personal home as being something that is “MINE” and unique, with also having a way to show what we have done in game. I also think guild halls for larger group get together’s are also good for the game and hope /think that Halls and personal housing can work hand in hand.

So Chris, if are familiar with FFXI’s housing you will know the systems they had. I hope some of what I said made sense, I was watching Family Guy as I typed it off the top of my head. I wanted to contribute , even if it was just a little bit. Thanks for taking your time to read through the CDI threads. It’s a great way to know that we are engaging in a conversation.

How do we make WvW defense fun?

It’s interesting you have thought of this. It is one of the things we have chatted about in my guild.

How can you reward defending or staying in a tower when there is no attack there. You would have to be careful so it does not reward those that would AFK. Your mini game idea is good. I thought of something that could be along the lines of “minding the fort” since that is what you are doing.

My thought was , if they could create ‘points’ in the fort that you as the PC would have to go interact with. They could be set points( like nodes that everyone can use) or they could appear randomly with in the structure. You would have to take your character there to interact with it. Kind of like ‘fixing’ the inside, although you are not really fixing /repairing. Just a way for the game to measure who is actually actively participating. ( I suppose another way, but I feel it would be adding to much , but you could take the crafting materials, and use them to give to the fort. Even gathered food items could be given to the NPCS there to ‘feed’ them) Again that is just to have the game recognize you are "minding’ the fort.

Also , since it’s defending, the gold/karma/exp rewards would , on first thought, be less then actually taking it. Since that could take people away from the offensive side. ( Again this would be for when there are no attackers, but when those that sit there keeping a eye on it) Full on attack and defend , sure the rewards could go back to normal.

I think they key would be to find that balance so that each aspect, attacking and defending, still feels worthwhile, but does not create something where everyone wants to only participate on the one side.

But for those that want to feel like they are staying IN the keep defending it , still can get rewards for it.

I have not been able to come up with a good idea for how someone who is a ‘scout’ could ‘scout’ and get rewards for it.

Maybe someone can take this idea and add to it , or see where some downfalls could be.

I agree with Darkace. A persons attitude is such a defining factor in who they are. I’ll take nice people who wants to do their best, then excluding someone based on a in game profession. In our guild we don’t care what job you bring . We have done runs of AC, ARAH and COF with different professions and we do well, have fun and succeed in the runs.

In fact , the other night had 2 new people to COF 1 and 2 and we did well and they had fun and appreciated the help we gave them by explaining what to do. ( Although explaining is not as good as experiencing it and then going “ahhh now I get what you mean” )

Yeah I don’t recommend my guild to everyone because frankly, we’re not for everyone. We’re on average a bit older, a bit slower, a bit more leisurely than most guilds. We don’t “run” dungeons we play through them. We take our time with stuff. We get there in the end, but we just have fun doing it.

A lot of people find us too casual for their tastes.

Nothing wrong with that. Feels like our guild. Few older people, wanting to just enjoy the content, trying to play well together. Learn from each other and just have a good time with some memorable moments. Like being down to the last second when Magg finally blows the doors open. Then laughing about it and at the same time cursing that room.

Stumped by Dungeons

I was writing a reply and my puter ate most of what I typed(shortcuts seem to refresh my page or whatever But yes dungeons can be a love it or hate it. Like any learning process when you know it, it becomes easy because you see and know whats happening. Like with Old Tom, I did that one 3 times I think. For that you need to use what you have for skills. Like shields, reflect, and condition removal. Then condition them down as you fight.

As others said, gear help with upgrades. Maybe some food to help. The other Story mode and Expl mode of dungeons are fun for me and also frustrating till you get figure out the best way to advance. For example I rmember when so many say AC Expl mode was soo hard, but I did it with freinds the other day and did all 3 paths in about 1-2 hours with breaks. Also had the best Kohler fights in there.
It is also looking to see what the bosses do and what you can do to counter that. Say for example can you reflect things back? do you need to have condition removal(skills and traits) Do say the elemental weapons the Ele drops help? do you need to stay away, not wasting dodges and dodging in the best way. One fight I think, dodging forward was best for me as the red circles were all to the sides. I am not on much but if you want to add me and then maybe you can join when I do some with freinds you are more then welcome to. When you do a dungeon and it goes well it truly can be a fun time.

Just send me a pm here or in game to let me know its you

I dont know how it would work client or server side… I’m not that smart when it comes to that. Im thinking it was the player/client side, as many updates included all the new stuff they would add. Guessing that because if it was on the server they would not need to add those to updates to your computer…but what do I know. But if you get a chance to see how FFXI did it, I’m sure you would like it. I know they had home worlds and they would have players from all over the world on that world. That communication tool was invaluable.

ugh I started typing a good response and got ate. Short reply is, yes its a good idea. But FFXI did this very thing so it would not be the first game to do it.

It does take some time to get your message out there, but what was done in FF, if you dont know, was they had a set list of generic phrases: Hello, Nice to meet you, Goodbye, Do you want to group? Meet us at… and so forth. Also, the names of places were in there, along with spells and skill and such. So when you started typing the phrase or location you hit TAB and the the things that fit what you typed would show up and you would select what you wanted. Granted it took a few extra seconds but when you really learned what phrases you needed you typed exactly what you needed. Same for locations, you learned to spell what you needed to get the one you wanted. Then when you selected it , it would show up in your chat log with red and green brackets around it and what was in the brackets would show up in the players language.

So you dont need to worry about slang and all that , as the game would only have and translate what was needed.

When it comes to gaming and making parties you really just need the basics to get someone to meet you or join up for something. I don’t think it’s impractical as it was done very well in FFXI, just would take alot of time. If they start small it could be a great feature. I am also assuming that if someone links a waypoint or POI, or Item in chat… that if someone is playing on a different language client, that it shows up correctly for them anyways.
