WvW tactical improvements

dontrippy.8906

I’m a fan of occasional WvW but i find it lacks some sneaky tactics :p
this is why i would propose some tactics for WvW.

first off… siegeladders
to be constructed just to ignore the enemy wall, ofc it should have a max ammount of being used like 5 times or so and then it disappears, to get a squad inside enemy walls quickly and strike hard from the inside :p

secondly… tunneling
it would be another fun tactic to bypass enemy walls
this should have a max distance and the enemy should be able to destroy the tunnels by destroying the supports at the beginning or the end of the tunnel, making the tunnel collapse and everyone in it die instantly.

thirdly… scouting kits
scouting kits should be kits that help witht he scouting/spotting of enemy activity, someone wielding a scouting kit can be killed and can’t do any damage, nor can he drop his scouting kit to engage in combat.
to compensate for this massive weakness scouts should have alot of swiftness/invisibilaty to move fast and get away if the heat’s too much, time spent as a scout should go towards a wvw achievement and grant wvw rank points.

i think it would add an extra dimension to WvW… what do you guys think?

dungeons, and selling the good stuff through trading post, that’s hands downt he best way to make money in this game :p oh and sell your crafting materials through the trading post, it gets you rich :p all my chars had like 1.5G by the time they reached lvl 10 so, it’s a fast way to make money and once level 80 do CoF path 1 over and over, it’s tedious, boring and brain numbing but gives you heaps of money :p
and don’t bother witht he legendaries, they’re way overpriced and don’t outclass exotics, their skins are to fancy and flower-girly in my opinion but i get why some would dig the skins :p

wel this is the main guideline of how i played ranger, enjoyed it alot and have heard the following things quite often…
in pve “you’re the best ranger i’ve ever seen” “finally a ranger that doesn’t just sit on a rock like a toad and fires the occasional arrow” or “are you gonna solo the alpha? type y for yes and n for no, if yes, i’m going for a smoke”
in pvp “I hate you hunter!” “ugh if you have to fire from the back at least give me a chance to turn around and shoot back” “wish you could run out of arrows”

i hope this guide helps, if any questions, feel free to ask, i will check this post every now and again (read not on a daily basis) have fun in GW2 and have fun playing ranger :p

now before i started going zerker ranger i was more of a bulky variety

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNAT3XnAVkFchFKWAahgYpQP9p9QTS68vCo3VAVn8qHJB-TsAgzCoI8S5lzLjXSvseNGZVxOAA

now the bulky variety i used two ways, the one you see in the link is my dungeon build, awfully sustaining and also some party caring, more support then actually damage, i always kept the utility skills “signet of stone” and “signet of the wild” on me, for passive powers and sometimes activating active power when merrited the “protect me” isn’t a skill i braught with me all the time, though very usefull it’s a petkiller and you’ll see that with this build your pet is going to be your main damage output, btw this build isn’t for pvp purposes at all, at least in my experiences, anyways seeing as the key of this build is staying alive there’s not much else to be explained about it, only use a melee weapon with it if the situation requires you to have one with you, i mostly equipped brown bear and fern wolf because of the condition removal and regeneration, always nice to have those for a party :p, now back the the utility skill i changed alot… on hard parts to stay alive, i knew i would outlive at least someone so i took “search and rescue” with me for a rez where i don’t need to do a thing.
at other times i took signet of renewal for the extra condition removal that the passive effect has, wich is especially useful in the TA-dungeon or quickening zephyr for the hunter’s sjpt + rapid shot damage output, wich you’ll see will be remarkably less high then on the zerker build i discussed earlier.
In open pve, meaning not dungeons, i took traps + entanglement as utility skills + elite though never frost trap, i’m no fan of the skill, this build was great fun for i wanted to kill as much as possible in as short a time as possible, especially centaurs are such gullible fools to allow this, this build is therefor most fun in centaur areas :p just run up sick your pet on the melee guys, while you make your way to the ranged centaur, reel your pet in, thus everyone who’s currently aggroing it and place your traps + whirling defense + barrage + entanglement (entanglement if it’s really nessecary mostly a lifesaver instead of a real part of the combo, i’m thinking about two elite centaurs hounding you rather then 13 sissy centaurs hounding you) and ofcourse whenever a trap recharges use it, traps take priority on both whirling defense and barrage, it’s a great focused area of AoE that makes most of the AI in pve run back to their mommies :p

dontrippy.8906

the elite itself, changes according to your need, entangle is in my opinion the best pvp-elite, though when fighting a boss in pve, using rampage as one is preferable.
Also alot of ppl underestimate spirit of nature, it is by far the best party supporting skill (except for timewarp) around in my opinion.
It’s like having a pocket monk pulsing heal party, ofcourse there are traits that give spirits more health, but for this one and actually all the other spirits, it’s unnessecary, far more important is placement and a bit of brains.
When there’s heavy AoE, your spirits will die in mere seconds, but when the AoE isn’t all that hard you can easily set up nature spirit somewhere the AoE doesn’t strike often and when there’s no AoE you can place it anywhere as long as it doesn’t draw attention. Ofcourse in pvp, it’s fairly useless, ppl will kill your spirit, if you’re dying to use it, hide it well :p
when you need AoE damage yourself for example that chamber in CoF where the asura is arming the bomb, use traps, no use going for throwing traps in my opinion it’s a waist of time especially as you are immobile during the throw, better to be a normal trapper, u can still run and place your traps, at the very beginning, meaning before the spawn, place spiketrap+viper’s trap+flame trap, those are the three best traps imo, anyways place those three on top of eachother and stay put, when they spawn, your traps will activate, damaging them all at that very moment you use entanglement +dodge roll and use a barrage to finish them off, then switch to axe mainhand, warhorn offhand, “why?” some of you might ask, axe mainhand is an underestimated weapon imo, it’s a throwing weapon, giving you range, not only that it’s one of the best kiting weapons, u can easily solo CoE’s first alpha spawn with just an axe, not only is it the best kiting weapon because of the “winter’s bite skill” chilling your opponent, wich is obviously partly the reason, it’s also great because your camera doesn’t need to point straith at your opponent in order to fire, meaning it’s far more forgiving to fire while kiting, on top of that it bounces between enemies spreading the damage, the warhorn is there mostly for the swiftness/group swiftness wich further ups your kiting abilities through call of the wild and hunter’s call is not only a cool looking skill, through the traits of zerker ranger it also has a high chance to place some bleeding on the enemy, more then splitblade cause you need to be at close range for the 5 stacks of bleeding on one target.
as melee weapon i would advice mainhand longsword and offhand axe or warhorn, i know sword dagger is fun, but too much of a repetition of the short sword in my opinion, besides, whirling defense is one of the greatest skills in the entire game and can be a live-saver as a melee ranger.
as far as pets go, in pvp i would advice the hyena, cause it can duplicate itself turning on knockdown into two and the jaguar as a back-up because of it’s invisibilaty, always a nice perk to have :p don’t be afraid to sacrifice your first pet, it needs to hound the enemy enough and if it dies you have a back up, when switching, the switch sadly has a long cooldown, so recall your pet when nessecary, the petrecall counts for both pve and pvp, the button’s there so use it :p

rangers don't suck

dontrippy.8906

Hi,

I’ve quit playing GW2 a while ago, but one thing i heard alot and it bugged me was “rangers suck”.
Now my main was a ranger and i didn’t suck with ranger.
So i’ve figured “if you don’t play anymore, why not share your trade secrets?” so here i am sharing how i played ranger hoping it helps.

the following link was my latest build (through that bu!ildmaker), i mainly used it in pvp but it worked wel in pve too
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQJATVjAVZ2RWKWo2CglC96rfgTmCDZ8LwVA1LWKKJ-ToAg0CnISSlkLJTSyksJNqYNC

this is a zerker ranger abusing critical hits and the long range…
hunters shot followed by sharpening stone + quickening zephyr + rapid fire is a great combo doing massive damage in a short amount of time.
when there’s like 4 or 5 enemies grouped use sharpening stone + barrage to have the AoE-damage give mass bleed and cripple, always a fun combo in my opinion.
the build has signet of the wild, this i mainly use for it’s passive use, it’s active use though fun really tempers with your durability especially as a berserking ranger.
point blank shot is great to get melees the hell off of you or in pvp, KD the guys who want to impale your allies.
swapping your weapon sets often is a second key in this build in part because of the swiftness and fury you get trait wise and in part to be able to continue a good dmg output, and shortbow is very good at damage output + it keeps you ranged
when on shortbow, fire crippling shot and circle around your foe to get crossfire’s bleeding effect seeing as that is this builds main condition damage, exploit it to the max, if your foe doesn’t let you circle around use a concussion shot, it keeps them stationary for long enough to circle around.

make competetive dungeons

Posted by: dontrippy.8906

dontrippy.8906

i’ve had this idea for a while wandering about in my head but i constantly forgot about it, yet each time i thought about it i thought “wouldn’t it be fun?”

what do competetive dungeons mean?
either make it a timerace where several teams enter an instanced zone at the same time (diff instanced zone) and have to complete the dungeon asap… the first team to complete the team that’s ahead of the others gains a magic find boost… the 2nd in the race gains a smaller magic find boost the third in the race gain an even smaller magic find boost and the last gain no magic find boost
or the first to finish gain a higher dropchance of the goodstuff from an end dungeon chest :p however the dungeons should not be skipable, it should be about skill at killing fast not skill at running :p

or you could get teams into the same dungeon (ofc none of the existing ones)
and have them co operate and sabotage eachother… meaning that rival teams will have to co-operate at certain points and will have to sabotage eachother at certain points or perhaps even kill eachother in dungeons like this a partywhipe should mean “end of dungeon”

i dunno what you guys think of this idea and i admit it’s rather vague and all that, perhaps even impossible to make, feel free to upgrade on the idea if u like it

Only have a low level(11) ranger, but the one thing I’ve found is that the pet is too squishy (cat)and there doesn’t seem to be a very effective heal for your pet.

I also find it odd that they don’t kill the pet it just leaves the fight with about 1 hp either that or it becomes the walking dead.

if u want a sturdier pet look at bears and boars, they’re sturdier further more beastmastery enhances pet abilities thus making it tougher an effective heal for pet is troll’s ungent and signet of the wild is also very effective (passive) recall ur pet if need be that’s always a golden rule

That can preclude nearly every player character with certain background choices, you know. About the only possible leaders by default would be humans (Defense of Shaemoor) and charr (Darn near everything).

true and untrue if you ask me, seeing as you’ve had multiple battles as practice as any player… i know not all battlefields are alike, but you do get to know your way around some of them henceforth u have some military experience if that doesn’t count in your eyes then i find it sad that the norn who accompanies you in the vigil quest dies instead of traherne, cuz he would’ve made an awesome leader of the pact personality, guts, strategy and a good sense of humor i quote "old man huh? i’ld watch out if i were you or i’ll “old man” you into the ground" now that’s something i wanna see from a leader…. or they should get dragon age origins’ sten to do it lol

Wel, in short, i don’t like traherne because he steals the players light…. he becomes the head of the alliance whereas the player is actually the one who actually made it come true, someone with knowledge about the enemy but a lack of knowledge on a battlefield should not be marshall but have an advising roll… also the voice actor keeps calling claw island “chlore island” on top of that his voice doesn’t make me want to follow you it makes me think “i’m going to the crapper while he’s yapping” if him had chosen a voiceactor with a booming voice then i would at least listen to his yapping for that reason.
The truth of the matter is that traherne makes me feel obsolete and the personal story is more of a “traherne’s diary” then an actual personal story
oh and he’s bloody worthless in a fight, keeps dying and dying luckely Anet got rid of the “master togo must survive” thing that went on in the original gw storymissions, wich were vastly more interesting because you actually played with others in them

Skipping In Dungeons And Other Improvements

in Suggestions

Posted by: dontrippy.8906

dontrippy.8906

I strongly agree with the skipping part of dungeons, because of the skipping dungeons are not played like Anet designed them.

No one seems to care about how dungeons should be played. They will continue to play the way they want. I have absolutely no idea why should they do otherwise.

That skipping has to stop.

Not going to happen. People will always chose the path of least resistance.

not true, i enjoy fighting a redicalously overwhelming force (sadly there aren’t any in GW2)

Skipping In Dungeons And Other Improvements

skipping of mobs in dungeons should be easily fixable if Anet works with a “room” system… meaning there is no way you can get to the next part of the dungeon unless you have killed everything in that room or have met a killing requierment to open up the next room…. though this may be percieved as to confining and even tedious by others yet i do believe that the few minutes you save with skipping don’t matter at all because you can only get the 60 token reward once for each path of a dungeon a day :p…. or have they fixed that by now?

is it a waste to salvage exotics

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: dontrippy.8906

dontrippy.8906

depends really…
if you don’t use the exotics, you can always sell them at the tradingpost, HOWEVER…
1st check if the sigil/rune in the exotic is worth more then the exotic itself, if so, it is absolutely not a waste to salvage them if you use the black lions salvage kit (100% rune/sigil recovery) witht he other salvage kit (forgot the name approximately 15s at merchant) it only has an 80% chance of recovering rune/sigil… then it’s only a bit of a gamble, i’ld still do it, but i’m just one person.
In addition it can also give you some rare mats and ectos, wich often go for a nice price… however ectoplasm price has been plummeting lately.
if the sigil/rune is approximately the same price as the exotic then i still think it’s worth it because of the chance to get ectos.
If sigil/rune price is lower then the price of the exotic then i believe it’s better to sell the exotic instead of salvaging it

i still see bugs that have been going on since november (when i first started playing the game) and i’m getting rather tired of seeing how they weren’t fixed with each update…. makes me wonder if you just print and eat those bugreports instead of actually reading them :p

I have been thinking the exact same thing as to how limiting the weaponskills are compared to GW1 and that additional weapon skills or perhaps upgradeable weaponskills could be a solution… although i do believe that if they create additional weaponskills it’ll have to be ‘positionbound’ or something on the weaponskill bar, otherwise you’ld just carry all the extremely damaging ones

2. from LA you can go freely to every major city and u can travel from there to the point you need.

all possible 3 stat + combo on all gear

in Suggestions

Posted by: dontrippy.8906

dontrippy.8906

Well, there is a bit of reason for this.

Currently we have seen 10 different types of stats on gear.

1. Power
2. Precision
3. Toughness
4. Vitality
5. Condition Damage
6. Healing Power
7. Critical Damage
8. Magic Find
9. Condition Duration
10. Boon Duration

The last two listed were only introduced in the Wintersday update, so we’ll only consider the primary 8 for this example.

With those 8 stats, there are a large number of ways to combine each set of stats.

8! / (3! * (8 – 3)!) = 56

So there would have to be 56 different gear prefixes to handle all the stat combinations.

However, this ignores the fact that one stat is the primary stat and the other two are secondary. If we were to incorporate this into the calculation, it effectively means that each set of attribute combinations has 3 different unique arrangements, meaning there would have to be a grand total of 168 different gear prefixes to satisfy an exhaustive set of gear stat combinations.

For comparison, including the Boon Duration and Condition Duration stats into this equation would yield 120 different stat prefix combinations, and there would be 360 different possible prefixes if we also considered that one stat will be a primary stat.

We have approximately 20 different item stat prefix combinations currently, so you would have approximately a 20/56 = 36% chance of finding the gear set you wanted provided you pick one at random, ignored Condition Duration and Boon Duration, and didn’t care which one was the primary stat.

As such, you might have to combine different stat sets to approximate what it is you want.

As seen in the Wintersday update, ANet is not adverse to adding more gear combinations, but it would be rather impractical to try to include an exhaustive list of combinations.

What would be interesting is if they introduced a mechanic where we could somehow select which stats were placed on a piece of gear (i.e. via crafting), allowing for more customization. But it doesn’t currently fit in with any model of gear acquisition they have, nor do I think that’s something that would be highly prioritized.

okay with the actual figures it does seem like an unsurmountable task, but still i find it sad :p and indeed that mechanic would indeed be very interesting but then i think alot of armor on tp would become worthless except when it has a nice skin seeing as ppl can choose their stats, you could say only on exotic and above but then again i think it would impact the economy to much

WP costs don’t affect farmers one bit. Just casual players who want to find people and events.
It’s all part of the game’s ingenious suicide plan.

even when exploring an area it doesn’t affect you one bit, merching all useless stuff even covers the expense of waypointing and when exploring you’re hoofing most of the map until the point you see you’ve missed one point of interest and that 1s is really not gonna affect you seeing as you get decent rewards for area completion and a stack of materials that when u don’t need them u can still sell them over tp and make enough money to cover ur wp expenses, however i do believe that events should give you a little more money then they do now.

I have been greatly missing hardmode in guild wars 2 and in an open world it would be very difficult to implement that however this dungeon idea i love! it would be the hardmode that i so missed

I wanted to give my mesmer toughness power and condition damage gear, however i saw that this does not exist, as i searched a little further i saw that alot of other stat + combinations weren’t available on all possible weapons and armor

I find it a great loss to be honest, it restricts players from creating their own character with their own build, something guild wars 2 is based on in my opinion.

more available weapons

I am aware that you are probably going to implement more weapons in an expansion pack or so. However, as someone who played guild wars one i miss the large diversity in skills and i believe the weaponbound skills have something to do with that.

I have to admit that this system has it’s charm and that it really keeps the balance in the game, so instead of nagging i come with the suggestion of an increased weapon arsenal for the game.

like crossbow, greataxe, scythe, javelin, on land spear, quarterstaff, shuriken, doublebladed sword, double bladed axe, whip,….

an enormous diversity of weapons to choose from to put into the game, yet so little choice of weapons in the game.

GW2 would greatly benefit a social center instead of the simple “lfg status”
this social center should show ppl who are recruiting parties for dungeons/story quest and for guilds over all servers continent bound ofcourse.

right now we do have the website gw2lfg, but it would be fun to see a thing like this in game.

turn soulbound into accountbound

Dear Anet, i realise that you wish to make certain items bound to an account, however the soulbound is a bit over the top in my opinion, it makes it so that one can not re-use lets say a medium armor set used on another character, it seems like a waste of hardearned cash in my opinion, also i almost fell into a trap buying my necro’s dungeon equipment on my ranger for she had the tokens on her, until i saw the “soulbound on aqquire” i’m glad i did not make that mistake however i do feel this should change

Dear Anet,
In guild wars 1 we were able to dye our weapons, i would love to see this feature return for it would add to the personal customization of our characters.
