I think part of it is probably that because we’ve gotten 3 maps in a pretty short period of time it feels like the quality of each individual map maybe isn’t as good as if they’d spent that same amount of time on just one single map. It’s a tradeoff, and I get that. Would we as players rather have one great map to play over and over and over or 3 okay maps to switch between? I am not completely sure what is better or worse, but I like variety so I’m okay with this for now.
I will say that if the next expansion maps are like these 3 that would be no bueno. These 3 have been a clear step down from HoT maps for me, which is another reason why they feel lackluster when I play them.
Personally, I’d love to see them take Piercing Light trait in a much different direction. Forget the CC part of it.
-20% CD Reduction on all traps
-Traps also create a symbol at location for 2 seconds.
-Traps also give the individual boon associated with each trap to 5 allies in area
Then I’d swap Piercing Light with Hunter’s Fortification.
It’d give Traps/DH some much needed synergy with other trait lines (zeal/honor) opening up build options. You could balance things like trap cd’s, symbol duration etc. It’d also make traps more useful in group play by allowing us to support effectively, but in a slightly different way than the traditional guard.
It’ll never happen because it would require more work than I think they are willing to put into it, but that’s what I wish traps were like. Just my 2 cents.
I think the immob trait is def the better choice atm in pvp. Especially with CD down to 26 seconds.
To be completely honest, DH trait line is a mess in general. First heavy light change and now this has really reduced the effectiveness of using DH imho. The tradeoff is almost like we get to use longbow and the updated virtues, but we’re punished by having to use DH traits lol.
In limited use on the HoT maps it feels pretty crappy so far. Maybe if I were running a condition build where I was building in some condi duration it would feel better?
I miss monks. The End.
Is there really a viable alternative? I’m tired of having to use Valor in all of my builds.
Having a 5k burst heal whenever you are about to die, is by far not useless. And it does not make adrenal health useless. Saying that is like saying that Having a trait that auto death shrouds when you are about to die makes minion heals pointless. They are completely separate abilities.
No, Adrenal Health makes Dead or Alive pointless.
Here, just do some playing and when you die try and remember if you are in Berserk Mode or not. My experience the last couple days is that I am simply not dying in zerk because i’m keeping the hots up.
So, if i’m not dying in zerk mode because of Adrenal Health, then what’s the point of Dead or Alive? THAT is my point.
Everyone in Berserk is generally running glass cannon these days. I think its rather tactful to tank a killing blow and trigger the Dead or Alive and use it as a block//heal if your hp is low enough to benefit from dying that way. I don’t really understand why you would feel something that allows you to come back to life need to be improved upon, even if it is limited to ur time in berserk mode (which is fairly lengthy). When fighting berserkers its quite hard to read their sustains since they can stack so many resurrection type skills (endure pain, defy pain, defiant stance, dead or alive, adrenal health and other strong proc heals). it’s a case of reading their attacks and dodging while doing as much damage as possible without knowing which of your attacks is actually going to land a killing blow and which is just gonna heal or be blocked by them. These types of skills and our raw damage output are really the only reasons we still get by. I think Dead or alive is fine as is….everyone should be thankful there isn’t an interrupt put on a warrior’s skills when it is triggered (how else would u get off those gunflame and killshots?).
I’m not saying that the idea of the trait is bad, but that with the new Adrenal Health is is well…rather pointless (if you are running Defense, which almost everybody in pvp is atm). So you’re triggering zerk and you’re maintaining your HoTs. When Adrenal Health wears off, if you haven’t gone back into zerk THAT is when we are most vulnerable.
It’s a little like having a trait that gives gives you a heal when you have protection on you instead of you dying.
That said, I don’t think it’s a completely broken idea and if you’re not running Defense it still has value, but otherwise I just find it a little clunky at best.
I think a better trait would be like as follows:
Taking fatal damage while in Berserk mode will heal you.
Healing 5,220
If you do not die while in Berserk mode you are healed.
Healing 1,044 (20% of other heal)
THAT, would have some value and I think mean more.
I am very pleased with the Adrenal Health update here, but it pretty much makes Dead or Alive a completely pointless trait. I am most survivable while in Berserk. It was already a trait I hardly ever used because it relied on you dying while in Berserk to ever be effective. Now, it’s even less useful. I’m sure this is an unforseen consequence type of thing, but it needs to be looked at imho.
@drgast – I’m upset because guardian get worthless buffs and hard nerfs when other classes actually get real catering. You must be one of those tower huggers that say guard is op.
It was a 20% nerf to one skill and a 7% nerf to another while 7 skills got cd buffs and 3 skills got damage buffs. Give me a break. Yeah, you’re really being punished alright.
I agree, mesmers are WAY overpowered right now. But it’s mostly because of the condition damage. Most mesmers could care less about moa
moa is only one of the problems. you can’t cleanse conditions during it, and the duration is way too long for the power creep that got added to the game.
it’s a combination of being extremely sustainable with staff/sw/sh, merc amulet and inspiration, having great utilities and elites on “half” their cooldown due to f5, combined with the ability to deal great damage and stunlocks with shield and double daze shatter.
there is basically no downside to that build.
The continuum shift doesn’t make that big of a difference. People act like continiuum shift puts Moa on a 30 second recharge. It doesn’t, it puts it on a 90 second recharge (normal for most elites), and is very difficult to time, so on average I think it puts moa on 120 second recharge. I have no idea why people are squabbling about moa. I think they recognize that Mesmer is overpowered, have never played the profession, see that they can turn people into birds, and then just blame that.
When in reality, the problem is Mesmer’s INSANE access to condition burst. Like, if you’ve ever played Mesmer, you know that you can put 6 stacks of confusion and 4 stacks of torment on someone in less than one second, and then stunlock them with a plethora of skills, including or not including moa. Gravity well is just as bad. In addition, Mesmer’s inspiration and chaos line give them up the wall access to stability and condition removal / resistance. This turns good ones into super warriors. Moa really doesn’t do much by itself.
I’m terrified that a lot of hatred is going to be spilled on CS/Moa in the next few weeks when people are getting stomped by chronomancers, it will be nerfed, but Mesmer will still dominate everything, and people will ask "but no birdie why am I lose
"
76 second cd with continuum split. It is a big deal tbh. In reality, it’s more like 66 seconds after the 10 second duration. On my mesmer it’s amazing, but playing against it can be annoying. The duration just needs to be reduced imho.
Bye.
Honestly, you ARE overreacting as are most people, but this always happens every single patch in almost every single profession forum. The realities? Longbow damage wasn’t nerfed 20%…true shot was. The buffs to Deflecting shot and Symbol of Energy have made your rotation more important and spamming TS less so. I’m all for that. It rewards good players and punishes button spamming monkeys.
I really don’t mean to sound callous, but you even basically said you don’t like LB3 because it’s hard to use. Well…practice with it and learn how to hit your target. Maybe stop strafing to aim if you are having issues landing it.
Vanilla got good buffs and that’s a good thing. If everybody is playing DH and other things get buffed maybe you should try them? Bunker shout guards got a pretty huge buff with this update.
To be completely fair…you are basically saying you don’t like the changes because they don’t cater to how you think the class should be played instead of adapting your playstyle with the changes. This is fundamentally not a developer problem but a player issue. I am not some great player, but being able to adapt to what professions strengths and weaknesses are at any given time is where player skill lies.
Adapt or perish lol. There are things I would love to see fixed, changed, whatever…but overall I’m pretty happy with where the class is atm.
The system is expressly designed to punish you for losing games you are supposed to lose. Conversely it rewards winning games when your team is pre set to win.
I think the concept was that this would quickly separate players into skill ranges. If that worked, fair matches would evolve naturally. Only players of a given skill level would be left within a pip range for the system to choose from.
There are a couple of glaring issues that kitten that idea.
First, there isn’t a big enough population pool to draw from. So, the matchmaker has to expand the pip range it chooses from. So, the skill separation is kittened. This destroys the whole concept of fair matches evolving. It means that matches will continue to be unfair.
Second there are alts playing through the lower ranks again for easy loot. I personally have been matched multiple times against paid ESL team players in Sapphire division. They were farming on alts.
Third,teams distort player skill levels.
It is working exactly as it’s intended to. I don’t find it logical, fair or competitive… but it is exactly as intended.
This definitely seems to be the case.
Bringing old WvW maps back seems like an attempt to keep any people they can there isntead of attracting anybody new. I get that partially, but I have zero interest in playing old maps again. I haven’t gone out much since the expansion mostly because I’m doing other things, but this makes me not want to go out at all. Why throw away that work instead of improving the new map if it has issues? Or even rotate the maps every week or two?
I just solo q’d in ruby and it was a pretty close game and i thought my team played well. We lost 500-464 on temple. Then i see that the entire other team is diamond, 2 of my team mates are diamond and 2 are ruby….and I still lose a pip?
Look, I’m not salty I lost or any of that, but it seems to me that if the game is matching me up against players that are (based on its own system) supposed to be better than i am, why am i being punished for losing a game I’m supposed to lose?
It just seems a little backwards.
By now I think we’ve all seen some really, really dumb things done by players and while i’m not proleague by any means…..
-A few days ago I had a revenant teammate who during Legacy of the Foefire spent. the. entire. match. trying to kill the other lord. Literally every time he’d spawn he’d run straight to their base and try to kill it….and die every time.
-Today I had a necro decide to camp home during Temple…….but he did so by standing on the bridge and let an enemy run behind him and cap it without him noticing.
Ruby folks. It’s great stuff.
Profession matchup isn’t the systems responsibility nor should it be. If the team wants to win they’ll switch accordingly.
You’re assuming people have other characters. If the system is based on the assumption that people have other characters and will switch to fix poor group matchmaking then it is broken.
When a stronghold matches 2 thieves, 2 guards and a necro against 2 necros and 3 eles. How the hell is this so broken? I’m tired of joining games that are over before they begin because of group makeup.
Was done in GW1. Think it is great idea, especially for soloq players.
Exactly. I remember it being smart and not sure why it was ever abandoned.
I’m thoroughly enjoying season 2, in fact I’m enjoying it much more than season 1. I find the matches to be balanced significantly better, and I’m seeing far fewer “shut-out” losses or wins than I did in S1, at least that’s been my experience in sapphire and, thus far, ruby. Maybe things will change for me in diamond, I can’t say.
Amber and emerald were a breeze to get through this season, I duo queued with a friend and we got on a few quick win streaks to blitz our way through in a couple of play sessions. Admittedly, I started a few weeks late into the season, so by the time I’d begun queuing, most high tier players had probably already moved into ruby or diamond.
I should note, I don’t consider myself a high tier player. I’m not bad, but I mostly stick to the current meta builds as they’re the most effective, so I really can’t claim full credit. Playing easy-mode DH bunker on home is, well, easy—most of the time.
Regarding MMR and pips, I think the current system works great. No, I don’t deserve an extra pip because my team beat the other team in a horribly unbalanced shut-out of 500-23, nor should that losing team lose an extra pip because they got matched against a more organized group of opponents. I’ve heard a few gripes in map chat recently about people being angry that they can’t get 3 pip wins anymore. Nope, you can’t. Work for it like the rest of us, even us “bad” players have to struggle through.
And realistically, if the sole reason you’re participating is to get the backpiece, and you don’t actually enjoy playing PvP, then no amount of good matchmaking or amazing rewards are going to make it fun for you. I’m an achievement addict just like so many others, and I do want the wings, but I primarily play PvP because I think it’s fun.
TL;DR: Season 2 is great. Play ranked if you enjoy it, wait until season 3 if you don’t.
The waiting until season 3 parrt would be sage advice if the seasons were shorter and closer together. Unfortunately, you’re basically saying to go play another game for several months.
It’s much better than S1, but atm. it’s not much fun, since 5 pips before legend, I went from a 90% win rate until diamond and about 70% in diamond to a sick loosing streak. And no, I didn’t play perfectly, but in most of the games I had some very suspicious teammates that just simply played wrong at first glance.
It’s just a salty solo-Q pip-grind. Compare this to what we used to have with tournaments:
- They actually made you wanna team up with 4 ppl.
- They had appropriate rewards.
- A loss didn’t set you back, but just didn’t gave you the rewards you were looking for and you simply q’d again.
- It had a simple implemented difficulty-curve; “winner stays in tournament”.It was just so much better.
I think the point about wanting to group up is a very true statement.
I’d like a system that allowed players on a winning team to remain together for the next match. I believe GW1 had a similar system and I think that would be a good idea again.
Yes. Dear god yes. It is beyond frustrating having to use Traveler’s just to NOT feel kitten compared to my other toons when it comes to movement.
Extremely happy with the results of Season 2. Players are exactly where they belong but I suggest allowing players to lose divisions. This might fix the problem of bad players getting a lucky win streak and somehow managing to get to ruby.
Losing divisions will make it more enjoyable to play? I’m sure that might make it feel better for some, but overall I think it’d make the experience even more tedious.
I dont think so… because then people would get paired with and against players of their own mmr again, they can recover and gather momentum (winstreak) and maybe cross further than before. Players would distribute themselves more evenly along the ladder, instead of all congregating around one point (sapphire t4 to ruby t1).
And I mean what is so terrible about dropping a division? you made it across, it counted for your achievement… so yeah… whatever… you get better matches this way… and you get room for improving…. so maybe next time you start a winning streak it is because of your own accomplishments and you can keep it running beyond ruby t1.
Well, in my mind it’d be dreadful. I am of the opinion that lost progress in a game is never good. PvP or PvE or whatever. Lost progress = lost time = wasted time = find something else to do. In my book at least.
Don’t you still lose pips if you change characters?
You only get dishonored and lose pips if you’re out of the match for longer than 2 minutes, and the pre-match countdown period doesn’t count towards that at all.
Yeah, but pips are account bound so what’s the point of switching characters? I’m confused as to why you’d switch characters in the pre match period for any reason beyond going to a different profession, which i do all the time.
Or completey forgot to toss Rev in there… another class that takes about 30 minutes to learn… but once you do it’s basically immortal. It’s gotten to the point where when a match starts, people are just waiting for the clock to go down while changing their character out because if you have a class that hard counters another it’s game over before it’s begun.
Don’t you still lose pips if you change characters?
Just looking for some good pvp streams to watch and get some tips. If you could answer by profession that’d help. Thanks all!
This, for me, is why Ruby makes me hate this game atm. I started my day at T5 Ruby and this is what I have gotten since I got on today. As a player, regardless of skill level, this is not fun. This will make you want to play another game.

This season and meta is much worse than previous. Not enjoying it at all.
The season? Yes but not the meta dude. This meta is a lot better than last one. The last meta was about capping the first two points, then gg.
Conditions are way too strong.
They should nerf chill to its old use (slower cooldowns and runspeed), poison should not stack in intensity, torment should be deleted and confusion back to only do damage if you use skills.
And some classes can still tank godlike in 1v1Um yeah, chill is indeed just slower cooldown and movement speed unless paired with a grandmaster reaper trait. So if they nerf Deatly Chill they would need to buff sth else in order to rebalance the reaper. Folks like you are fast to call nerfs without much consideration so are you as good with buffs ? What should they tune up if they tone deathly chill down?
Not sure if Chill or Deathly Chill is the real issue. Chill is probably overpowered as a condition. It should probably switch with Cripple in movement speed -% imho. Deathly Chill is (still) really strong. Not sure if you continue to nerf damage directly or possibly the DoT application to 2 seconds instead of every 1.
Regardless, this is more a discussion for another thread, I’m sure.
Question still remains to all. Are you enjoying season 2? I’d also be curious as to in what way are you playing? i.e. solo all the way, a mix of soloing and grouping, or all grouping.
Also, I think a rating of what you thought the most fun division you’ve played in was and what the least fun division you’ve played in was.
I liked it until I got to the Queue Simulator 2016 part which is basically me playing other games.
Not as much fun as Goat Simulator
It’s pretty botched
The people enjoying the game are probably you know, in it playing and not crying on the forums. The people who are not happy will always be the loudest and that’s why it is mostly what you will see.
So you are enjoying this season? Or you are crying about people crying and not playing? Or both? Or you are not enjoying this season and are simply crying about other people crying? This is confusing.
I’ve seen lots of complaining on here and just about every match is people voicing their displeasure. Lobby is full of unhappy people. Just want to know if anybody is actually happy with the way things are? Matchmaking, meta, all of it.
It just needs something else to make it better.
This elite feels very weak to me and i’m not sure if it really is or if I’m just not using it properly. No induction and a 30 sec (24 when traited) recharge means this is our most spammable elite, but it just feels like it’s missing something. I would actually like to see it given some polish even if the cd is increased.
The more I use the skill the more I feel like it should give an effect while tethered. An offensive one normally and a defensive one while in celestial avatar. Something like inflict Vulnerability every second they are tethered and then give allies stability every second while tethered. I really think something like that would give the skill the extra “pop” it needs to be more useful.
Thoughts?
Never understood why Chill is more effective at slowing movement speed than cripple which doesn’t give other bonus effects. If it were up to me, I’d remove the movement speed reduction completely because I don’t see the need for two conditions that do this. At the very least I’d greatly reduce it to something like 33% movement speed reduction and then bump cripple up to 66%
What do you expect when reducing 5 traitlines to possible 3
of which only 1 trait per minor/master/grandmaster makes sense.
Very true.
No offense, but i’m sitting at 123 mastery points spent. It’s not like I haven’t played at all. I don’t play as much as many people, but there does become a point where acquiring the mastery points becomes slightly problematic.
Like I said in my OP, I get that I made a mistake when I orginally spent my points, but I’m not sure I see the reasons for not allowing a reset. Make it a payable service in the store…charge $20 for it, I don’t care. If somebody wants to keep spending money to “abuse” the progression system who really cares? But for me, and anybody like me, who just want one reset, I don’t think it’s that big of a request. To me, it’s just like the upgrade extractor. It would be a store service.
If you think PvP Build diversity is bad, you should see PvE…
You’re right tbh. All phases of the game seem to have gotten very singular in builds.
This is the most “cookie-cutter”eque i’ve seen PvP. I see only the same builds. Power scrappers, power shiros, reapers, aura share eles, trap guards, and gs/staff druids. When I do a match and see a thief, mesmer or warrior it’s like whoa. And even then they are running the same builds as each other.
Look, I get it…the strong builds will always be meta. It’s just a little too closed off right now. It’s not a QQ as much as it is a hope that we can get a little bit broader balance moving forward. In a game with so many weapons, traits and utility skills to have the possibility of sooo many different builds…we shouldn’t see this few builds.
Just my 2 cents.
I think they are afraid to nerf it too much tbh. I tend to think the ability to apply it at will is more problematic than anything else, though. It’s almost pointless trying to cleanse it against a reaper because it’s just going to come right back. I play my reaper a lot so I understand how important it is, but the condition is super strong in pvp even without the damage component.
Just want to say that I wish I had the option to refund and respend my Mastery Points. I admit, this is because of a personal mistake on how I spent the points, but the option to respend would be nice.
When HoT came out I knew little about Masteries, like most people, and I didn’t think much about how to spend my mastery points. Notably, the Tyria ones. I got all of the pact commander ones and then started splitting between Legendary and Fractal. I didn’t realize at the time, however, that I would be short for the last couple tiers of each. In fact, I am 8 Tyria Mastery Points short of the last tier of Legendary Crafting, which is realistically probably the mastery i want most.
Look, I get I made a mistake and didn’t take the proper time to read through the masteries and count my points appropriately. I own that. I’d just like the opportunity to fix my mistake. Even if it were through some insanely priced item on the gem store that allowed me to respend my mastery points once. I have to think I’m not the only person out there who wishes they had this ability.
I’ve got to say the visual changes are terrible. Whoever thought this was a good thing should be put in a box and shipped to mongolia.
In the future, please make it easier to do events with people in my group. Very frustrating trying to do toypocalypse with my gf and not be able to get in the same instance or snowball fight together.
This is pretty silly. Rangers are just fine. The sky is not falling and the end is not near.
So far I’m having an easier time going through HoT on every other class after first going through it with Thief. Even though my thief has the best gear.
I’m quite positive… that Thief sucks.
That’s pretty common on any toon. My thief was my 4th toon through after ranger, guardian, necro…and I thought it was really easy on Thief using Daredevil. All of the dodges make you kind of invincible in PvE.
