I am doing this instance for the first time in months and I have the same issue. Mini-map is showing the layout of Silverwastes above-ground instead of the labyrinth lay-out.
Because it’s the first time playing this in a long time, I’m not sure after which patch this started.

I support the idea of a split into easy- and hard-mode. They can still make some rewards exclusive to the HM or have higher droprates in HM. It would give less organized people the opportunity to play through the content, which I don’t think is a bad thing.

I get the impression that the most competent people, who will be competing for record clears, couldn’t care less about the exclusivity. They just want something to challenge their skills, will feel like an accomplishment and will actually have fun mechanics to play with. A title would be nice to show others their accomplishment. (That’s the impression I get, sorry if you are a top player and care about exclusive rewards, my bad^^)

I don’t really see what the problem is with an easy mode, but I doubt there will be an easy mode – hard mode split, though.

I am sure you can manage. If not, well… intellect stuff… and so on.

While I agree OP’s English seems to be at a level where he can probably manage the game in English, that doesn’t mean people who can’t speak English have a lower intellect.

When GW2 released, I was actually surprised by the limited amount of languages it supported. It’s a decision they made years ago and I doubt they’ll support any new languages for GW2 in the future, though.

I can understand how people, not familiar with the dungeon forum, can misunderstand a post by EcoRI; his posting style is kind of an acquired taste, I think^^

It’s funny that you posted about thief support. The other day a guildie, who is just getting into dungeons, was surprised when I said thief is a good support character for pugs.
Glad to see you prove that point in a more efficient way^^

When I play with guildies in fractals, some of them tend to take their wvw roaming builds and what not in there. I never tell them to change their gear, but I do ask them for a specific trait/skill/weapon sometimes. The “berserker = easy win” attitude that some players have, shows a lack of insight, I think.

Why do you play female characters as a guy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: drowze.3709

drowze.3709

I’m male, but I just have more fun dressing up a female character. That’s why all my characters are female. The only character where I thought of making a male, was my charr, but I decided not to break my “all-female characters” tradition.

In other games where you end up spending a lot of time on creating different looks for your character from time to time, such as TES: Oblivion/Skyrim, Fallout, (with armor mods obviously) … I also played female characters exclusively. And I spend a vast amount of time in character creation as well.

In all my Baldur’s Gate games on the other hand, where there’s no dress-up and I am more in the role-playing aspect of it, I’ve always played a male character.

I dunno, guess I just like dressing up girls in my games, rather than men.

Shrouded Removal is nice as it is. But if it was switched to condi removal on DS exit it would synergise with Unholy Martyr. The problem with that is it might be a nerf in some situations. Such as large stacks of bleed so you need to cleanse fast but that means you have to put DS on cooldown when ordinarily you would of prefered to stay in DS for a bit. Although im curious what others think of switching it to on exit? Is the extra synergy worth it? Its only a nerf in very extreme situations.

The other solution to giving synergy to Unholy Martyr is to add a new adept/master trait in blood which gives us condi transfer in DS. I mentioned it before. But theres plenty of space for new traits like this in blood magic because most people seem to agree the life siphon traits need to be merged completely.

Why not have both? Change Shrouded Removal to remove a condition when leaving DS and add a trait for condi removal during DS in Blood Magic.

It could be made to remove/transfer 1 condition every 3-ish seconds (whichever would be balanced) while in death shroud (similar to the condi removal of Shadow’s Embrace of thieves). Or have a trait to make Tainted Shackles transfer all conditions to foes that end up caught with the immobilize. It fits the name of the skill, it’s conditional to not make it too OP and people will want to get away when they see you pop the skill, making it work as a defense mechanism, even if you don’t manage to land the immobilize in the end.

That way Shrouded Removal can still be useful for builds that like to flash their DS and there’s another option for builds that want to stay in death shroud for longer times.

Necro Spec Notes & Feedback

drowze.3709

I find dagger with DS flashing fun to play in pve. Needless to say I want the ITC on spiteful spirit and weakening shroud removed. I really like the idea of having a blast finisher on unholy feast to finally help blast some fields.

It also struck me that there are valuable traits in curses, but no grandmaster trait to benefit a power build. I hope they’ll rework that a bit, so we’re not stuck with a wasted trait slot.

Since there is a dagger trait in the blood magic line, I wouldn’t mind a dagger master trait there to give +5% damage with daggers while hp is above 75%, and have them steal some health as well for additional damage. Vampiric Daggers or whatever.

I am all for the idea to merge vampiric with bloodthirst in one life syphon trait in adept and removing vampiric precision. Buffing the lifesteal from vampiric/bloodthirst trait a bit to make up for the removal of vampiric precision. Maybe switch vampiric minor trait with a damage modifier while above a certain percentage of health or steal life on dodge?

Deathly invigoration would be nice if it’d heal also yourself. And because it’s called “invigoration”, would it be OP if it gave the necro 2-3s of vigor?

I dunno, it might make it a viable line for dagger flash?

Fix Mossman

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: drowze.3709

drowze.3709

Most pugs I’ve been in, don’t care either way. If one person is set on doing it on land, the group usually just goes along with it. I don’t see why everyone is getting so heated over this. Mossman has been a boss that people liked using safespots on whenever they became widely known. When it’s fixed, people will do it normally again until the next lazy way to do it is found and made public. Pugs usually take the easiest/failsafe route, not the fastest.

It’s obviously something that should be fixed, but on the other hand the lashing out at pugs that “suck and can’t defeat him on land” is grossly exaggerated as well, I think.

Anyways, LFG is always there to make your own party with your own rules^^

Fractals only give 2 rings?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: drowze.3709

drowze.3709

When they tell me I have a truly random chance to get an ascended ring, and all the rings in the loot table are account bound and worth the same to the vendor, I would expect them all to have the same chance of dropping. If it then turns out that the dice roll is weighted to make a certain ring have a larger chance of dropping than others, then I feel cheated and I can’t consider it true RNG.

That’s how I my head wraps around it… I completely understand the position of those that say that the dice roll is RNG, and after that you get a weighted loot table where some items have a larger range of numbers than others. And that a system like that is RNG nonetheless.

I just feel cheated for some reason when the item type, tier, price is all the same, yet the table is manipulated to make you have a larger chance of getting an item with less desirable stats.

Top questionable decision Anet have made.

OP, if I were you I’d post “Story; watching cutscenes; all welcome!” and you could add “no skipping”, but I find most groups don’t skip trashmobs in story mode anyways. drowze.3709

Just did a level 50 fractal with a pug. Got 2 rares, no exotics and didn’t even get a ring at the end. I’ll admit that normally I’d get about a handfull of rares in most runs, so this one was particularly bad.

I play fractals, because I like them and because I want the fractal hammer skin. Problem is that without my friends, who don’t play high level fractals, it’s hard to be motivated to even do a level 50 fractal daily, when the rewards are so underwhelming compared to other parts of the game.

I also have all the gold I need, but for me it would indeed increase the fun factor of fractals, if I’d feel rewarded after every run, instead of dropping my head and sighing after losing the RNG game yet again.

Any real experienced player obviously doesn’t pug, because pugs are to be avoided like the plague. People asking on the lfg for “experience” or “meta builds”, are probably looking to be carried… by people who join them, who are also looking to be carried… I’m surprised I even get through any dungeon in this game in under an hour by pugging.

PS: I’m not saying I’m a good player. But for some reason the anti-pug sentiments kinda annoyed me for once ><

Most of my dungeons/fractals I run with pugs. When I make my own party for a dungeon on the LFG, I always post “pX 80 exp”. By this I mean that you don’t need any explanation or guidance. Examples: in CoE p1 you know what to do at the control panel, in CM p2 you know what to do with the bombs. This also implies knowing where pugs usually stack and skip. I don’t expect more than that and usually runs go fairly smooth.

I am behind the idea of 1 tank and the rest focusing on dps as a viable playstyle for a group of friends that are coordinated and know what they’re doing.
Saying it’s great for pugs, however, is something I have mixed feelings about. In theory it’s nice to hold aggro and healing up your team to stay above 90% hp for scholar runes, but pugs are far from using optimized dps rotations.

In fotm 50 pugs I have over the weekend encountered a staff camping guardian, dual pistol thief (at bloomhunger, then I left the party), people generally using knockbacks or fears at random,… all kinds of things that lower the party dps or mess up your aggro. I don’t think going full healtank and sacrificing your own dps is a good thing in pugs, where your dps is usually needed or where people will take the aggro off you, making your build kinda pointless.

TL;DR: With a group of friends I would also think this might be a fun playstyle, but I think it won’t fit for pugs.

New defiance in dungeons comming with HoT

drowze.3709

So it’s going to be a generic predetermined stun-effect, when the bar is brought down for most bosses that are in the original GW2? At least that’s how I understood it. Then what’s the use of all the different kinds of CC we have access to, other than the amount of the “breakbar” it will wither down?

I don’t really get the point of the rework; for the wyvern they could have given it 50 or something stacks of defiance that have to be taken down in a certain time frame before it takes off, in order to stun it (like the Imbued shaman bubble in the volcano fractal, but then with CC effects). That would make it not any more or less of a CC spamfest than it will be now, I imagine.

I don’t know, I must be missing the point completely here; it’s getting late here after all ><

Haven’t had a fractal weapon skin drop for me in a long while, but that’s because I gave up on doing fractals just to farm the skins I still want. But because I have started doing fotm more often again lately, I’m posting for some good luck… fingers crossed for that hammer (which someone else in my pug got earlier today ><).

drowze.3709

I like the idea of adept/master/grandmaster trait manuals that can drop from various sources (veteran loot, champ bags, open world chests, dungeon chests, …). I’d make them account bound, so you still have to put in some effort to gather them yourself and with a set price to vendor them to the merchant. People that want to hoard them for alts can do so and people who aren’t into alts can just sell them, so it won’t clutter their storage.

If it works like elite skills in GW, I don’t see what the problem is. You can learn traits only if you have unlocked the corresponding number on another character on your account already. Veterans/altoholics will be pleased, as they don’t have to put in the work for traits that are near impossible to get. New players will be pleased to know they only have to pay for the more annoying unlocks once, making it not as discouraging to explore different builds. And Anet won’t lose face by deleting/reworking their precious trait system, as new players will have to go through it at least once.

Class good at Greatswords??

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: drowze.3709

drowze.3709

The OP seems to like the look of greatswords and therefore wonders what class to use them with.

If you like swinging your greatsword around like a boss, I’d say warrior. You’ll chop your foe into pieces with gs2, you twirl around showing off more particle effects with 3, just plainly throw your greatsword at your opponents face with 4, and rush to your foe to gut them open with 5. Some greatswords look awesome and impressive on warriors, I think.
Guardian is good with greatsword, but doesn’t really show it off as much as the warrior, maybe. Same for ranger, although I don’t play my ranger much.
If you like shooting beams, then go with mesmer.

But I have to say I agree with Mesmer not being great in pve with their greatsword. I don’t play my mesmer all too much, though, so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about. But from what I read in this thread, GS is the best “tagging”-weapon.

As someone already said, tagging is niche in pve, and in my case it does not constitute “80%” of my pve experience. I like to enjoy world events such kittenterer, jungle wurm, fire elemental, svanir shaman, etc. and get credit easily with sword/focus and sword/pistol. Doing map completion and getting Renowned Heart quests done, with the occasional event you bump into, also doesn’t require any GS “tagging”. Doing my harvesting runs also doesn’t require GS tagging, even when I’m in Orr and killing a group of mobs here and there for the extra drops. I don’t believe “getting tags” is the majority of open world PvE play, so GS seems to me like a weapon that you’d use only if you’re out champ/event farming.

That said though, most of the time in open world pve, you’re playing by yourself or with friends and you just take a weapon that you think looks/feels nice to you and you get the job done, albeit not always in the most effective manner.

Just some elitist thoughts

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: drowze.3709

drowze.3709

I don’t mind elitists. They usually leave me alone, because I leave them alone: I don’t join “Meta only” LFG-groups, because I have 2 trait points allotted differently from the meta build on gw2dungeons, for example.

What I do mind is elitists joining a pug group, for no other reason, it seems, than to feel better about themselves and look down on casual players. I have to say I only encountered one such incident myself.

A member of a well established speed clear guild was in the pug group (I won’t name the guild, not my intention to put entire guilds in a bad light) for AC p1 or 3. The person who put up the lfg asked for an ele only, because for casual pugs, icebow 4 helps a lot with them burrows. Said speed clear member joined us and immediately targetted the person who put up the lfg and started flaming “omg, you elitist, why ele only??”; in caps and not as nicely worded. I thought it was an attempt at humor, as I recognized their guild tag and know how you guys need to deal with anti-elitism every day in this forum. So I didn’t pay too much attention to it. After spider queen, he would skip the champ graveling and wait at Kholer, while every other pug run I had been in would kill that group of foes. He wouldn’t come help us kill and was complaining about how slow we were. At Kholer, people weren’t blasting his fire fields, which made him say “blasts, blasts, blasts, you casuals”. All his chat was in caps throughout this. After Kholer, I apologized for being casual, wished them a good run and left the party.

I know it was one individual, but every time I see the guild tag in my group, I am reminded of this experience and I ready myself for a possible bad attitude elitist. I admit though that most other members from this guild that I have encountered, turned out to be nice people.

TL;DR
Just wanna point out that there are at least a couple of rotten apples in your speed clear community that for some reason join pugs, while it clearly isn’t the play style for them (unless they deliberately join just to enjoy making fun of “casual pug scrubs” and feeling superior, which is even worse). And by doing so making a bad name for your entire community.

And just to end on a friendly note, thanks to all you “elitists” that contributed to gw2dungeons. It’s an awesome site and I often refer my even more “casualer” than me guildies to it, whenever they ask me how to gear/trait their character for dungeons/fractals^^

Game Updates: Traits

drowze.3709

I realize this post will not contribute new views or offer new solutions, as I’m quite sure everything on the issue has been said already by players more intelligent and eloquent than myself. I’m just posting to show that trait unlocking is still an important topic for some players (such as myself).

I’m slowly leveling a character now with a friend, by means of completing maps. For what it’s worth, I’ll write my thoughts from my experience with the “new” trait system.

I like that some traits are locked behind story mode dungeons, personal story chapters and the temples in Orr. I would also love to see some traits linked to “world bosses” that are part of the fixed rotation (such as the Shatterer). Those aren’t hard to get and lead people to an aspect of the game they might miss during their normal manner of play.

But I don’t like traits being locked behind random champions and events. I’m lucky I am going through them with my friend, but I can imagine myself and others having a whole lot of trouble getting these traits when playing alone. You can call out in map chat, but hardly anyone will respond to the call, because the events are just time consuming and not rewarding, except for the trait. The best and most obvious example of this is, of course, the Overgrown Grub in EB.

I like the concept of unlocking traits, as it gives you something to do when “working on a character”. But I would tie them to events (event chains) that are more easily accessed/completed. Maybe some could be tied to Renowned Hearts/vistas/poi’s/skillpoints, so that just completing maps already gives you a basic set of traits. Another way to implement some traits may be “capture a supply camp/tower/keep/stonemist castle in wvw” (not a specific camp/tower…). Some could be put in EotM, tied to airport/observatory/wurm tunnels and the other special objectives.

This way the traits will be more easily obtained (I don’t think gathering traits should be a show of “skill”), will take players to different aspects of the game for a bit (good way to show new players around) and it will take some time to gather all of them, which will give collectors a sense of satisfaction when completing their character.

TL;DR: I like the concept, but as others have already pointed out, I find that it was implemented a bit poorly.

I liked that my alts, who had been doing the LS all along, were getting rewarded for it. An RNG key hardly feels as rewarding as additional gloves that save me hours of play that I don’t really like.

Just to show I have a different taste than Yargesh. So yes, it’s all very subjective.
I suggest to just try different classes. You’ll enjoy some more than others; it’s part of the fun to find those you enjoy most^^

Boss events: Why "lfg"?

From my experience, being in a party increases my chances of getting credit for a kill. This does not mean that being in a party gives me better loot, though.

My first reaction when opening the new Gem-Gold exchange UI was this:

“Ok, streamlined presets that make for easy one-click purchases; alright, not bad. Now how do I buy a custom amount of gems?”

I honestly thought I overlooked the button that lets me input a random amount of gems. That’s why I came to the forum to double-check.

So having a button “buy custom amount” added to the current interface would feel a lot more natural to me.

Edit: Clicking the button would spawn a popup window, where you put in the amount of gems you want to buy and it shows you how much it would cost you in gold.

Agreed. Please give us the option to convert specific amounts like we used to.

Then again, I don’t believe that they didn’t know beforehand that a lot of people would react like this. We probably won’t be seeing a change any time soon, as they basically already told us to suck it up.

I hope I’m wrong.

Elementalist Underpowered

Seriously, I’m leveling my elementalist right now and I have to say it has got to be the most underpowered class I leveled so far. I keep just keep dying!

In dungeons you probably have others to tank mobs, so you can safely nuke from a distance. But in open world, you’re on your own and stand little chance to survive. Sure, you have water to try and to outheal the damage you take, but seriously, that’s not near enough.

And we only have one weapon?? wtf?? 2 of the attunements are useless, so the reasoning of having attunements to replace a weapon is BS. You’re basically stuck in fire for damage and water for healing. And that’s not nearly enough to stay alive.

Please just give the ele more survivability and access to a second weapon set! Otherwise this class is worse than even the necromancer, where people like to complain about. At least on my necro I stay alive long enough to actually kill something.

It just looks to me you guys expect too much from people, because you have your fixed groups of friends/guildies you usually play with. I pug all the time and especially in the most common (and easiest) dungeon paths and I hardly encounter major problems (I don’t play CM/Arah, though). But yeah, they’re no speed record runs, obviously.

I play guardian and try not to use lightfields, when I see we have an ele in the group (sometimes I put down a light field and whirl to remove conditions; don’t know if that’s frowned upon, do tell me if it is a bad thing to do, please). Recently I’ve seen more and more pugs taking down defiance stacks and use ice bow 5 on bosses. Thieves blasting smoke fields aren’t that rare. I switch weapons/support skills quite often, and suspect others do as well, because I’m by no means a better-than-average player.

Do I miss timing on aegis sometimes? Sorry, but yes. When switching to hammer and switching traits to take longer lasting symbols, do I sometimes forget to switch back my traits when I take out my GS again? Yes, it happens. It’s despicable mistakes like that, that you’ll have to just be patient with, if you decide to take pugs.

I myself never join “meta only” groups, so you needn’t worry to encounter me if you put that in your LFG message^^ Even though I read the guardian builds on gw2dungeons, I haven’t copy/pasted the traits exactly as written there and I have some knights in my accessories, instead of full zerk.

Just want to say that if you take pugs that aren’t used to organized dungeon runs, then you have to expect worse than what you’re used to.
That said, people who ignore the requirements in the LFG message do deserve a kick.

TL;DR
If you are going to take pugs, you know you’ll have to be patient and expect worse than you’re used to.

Just my two cents as a “kazul”.
And sorry beforehand, if I ever end up in any of you guys’ LFG party^^

How Many people regularly pug?

I pug almost everything. Worked my way to fotm 50 with pugs. I completed my Dungeon Master title with pugs, which is why I still show the title on my main dungeon/fotm character.
Doing all Arah paths with a pug was tedious, but I’m patient by nature, so it was all good fun. I think for path 1-3 we had at least one person who knew the way and what to do, for path 4 we were all noobs. One of us would watch the skips on youtube or read up on the upcoming boss fight and explain it, the rest listened and tried to follow. All without voice com. I may have been lucky, but I only experienced one full wipe at Lupi where we had to restart the fight. The other times, we might have missed a grub or 2 and it took a lot of time, but we killed him first try.

The days of such runs are probably over, as more people focus on speeding things and it becomes harder to muster the confidence to join groups, if you’re unfamiliar with dungeons.

Nowadays I regularly pug CoF p1, HotW p1, SE p1/3, CoE all paths, and occasionally TA (not the aetherpath, even though I got my achievements there by pugging as well^^ ). These paths hardly cause trouble, even for pugs.

Even though I’m an avid pugger, I do admit that I lost a bit of faith when only 2 of 5 members knew how Mai Trin’s attacks work on a lvl 49 fractal. You can imagine that the fractals before the boss fractal also didn’t go as fast as they usually go. As it so happens that was my last run and I haven’t returned there in weeks.

tl;dr
For the most popular dungeon paths, pugs will do just fine…. otherwise it’s a lottery, since obviously you don’t know who you’ll get.
