Haha this thread is pure gold. More pls

Like a poster above me said, it’s unbelievable how many LFG under world content just say “p1” or something. Then I see these spots get filled and I just don’t understand.

I saw one under CoF p1 that said: 80s zerk meta speed run 30k+ AP.
I saw there were some people in it. I decided to join just because I wanted to see people with that many points. I then learned they were all sitting on an average amount and were like, lol just trollin’ man all are we welcome. The following run one was one the smoothest and entertaining runs I’ve done there ha.

A part of the answer is to figure out how squishy you can tolerate. There is no one best set of gear for me so I have several; eight sets at one point. I am down to five, now.

Get one set that is aggressive and has precision to help proc critical hits and another that is tanky and has vitality for times when you feel vulnerable.

Beyond that is another dimension to consider, power and condition damage, but you should probably just focus on the number of defensive versus offensive stats. Traits, trinkets, and weapons can reinforce or diversify your build.

Sounds advice do doubt.

However, while I find this sort of guideline useful for a lot of classes, I will have to disagree regarding the necro. Of course for starters, it’s argued the only you way you’ll become better defensively without the crutch of defensive stats is to just play the standard zerk/assassin build and hit the ground running. Learning when to dodge and mitigate damage via deathshroud is just a part of the learning process.

However the main reason I disagree building defensive concerning Necro is because death shroud is perfect as your panic button. Sure guardians can proc aegis and so forth and so on, but as a Necro, deathshroud is truly a great way to help you learn difficult fights where a lot of damage is coming at you. Also it’s integral in the standard dps rotation so you’re going to be in it a lot anyway. If I see I’m getting focused and I’m out of vigor (anet give us a way to regen vigor pl0x) instead of flashing DS like normal, I just stay in it if I’m uncertain whether I’d survive the damage.

Needless to say OP, just because I disagree with Anchoku here doesn’t mean it’s not useful info, and you should definitely take it into consideration if you feel you need the extra survivability. I’m merely pointing out that, as a necro, you can get that extra survivability and then some from death shroud, a mechanic you’ll be utilizing in your DPS rotations anyway. Also keep in mind that, if you’re rocking a lot of toughness gear and you’re, for instance, in a dungeon with 4 other zerkers, there’s a chance mobs might give you extra attention, as they like to focus toughness heavy players, throwing more damage your way (somewhat defeating the purpose of building tankier imo)

In closing, Bhawb pretty much covers it if you’re looking for optimality. For more info check out Spoj’s guide in the sticky.

Updated Necromancer PvE hybrid?

Yes, I know Berserker stats don’t offer condition damage. I was giving a sarcastic response to his unhelpful comment.

Your general argument is off-base though.

Everyone knows power builds deal more damage than condition builds. But to then turn around and say all condition builds are the same is nonsense. Some condition builds do more damage than other condition builds.

By your logic, I could say that because Necromancers are the worst dungeon class in the game, your build doesn’t matter at all and you might as well run all signets.

Obviously the goal is to optimize your build with a given set of parameters. Power Necros want to maximize their damage using a dagger. Condi Necros want to do the best possible condition damage.

So please, don’t tell me to run a Berserker build. I have a good Berserker build that I run.

I also want to play a hybrid-condi Necro because it’s fun and does something better than other classes. I use it to kill husks in Triple Trouble, for instance.

I can only assume you just skimmed my post. I already stated you can either build optimally or for fun. I’m just saying that if you don’t build optimally, yes, your build is irrelevant as far as I’m concerned. Maybe it’s black and white, but to me, you either run a build that’s capable of maximizing your damage or you don’t. You’re electing for the latter, which is fine. I was just merely pointing you that, be aware that if you choose this route, you’re electing to take a class that is already innately sub-par in pvE content, leaving damage our only real method to make up for this, and running a condi build only makes you even less optimal, due to it’s inferior damage.

If you still want to run a condi build knowing this, then by all means, go for it. Like I said, most pvE content, barring some exceptions, is pretty faceroll. I was merely posting to be sure you were aware that a condi build in pvE is unviable, in case you had the desire to be optimal to your group, like I always do.

But then we play the game to have fun. If being optimal to your group isn’t fun for you, then don’t do it.

How do Berserker weapons do condition damage exactly?

Nemesis Hybrid was never rly good and it did never “excellent dmg”. It was only “ok”.

If u rly want to play Hybrid, use Dagger Staff or Dagger/Scepter. But it is still worse then Berserker for dps (but more defensiv stats if u use celestial).
To make hybridbuilds “viable” we will need a better statcombination then rampager, with power or conditiondmg as mainstat.

Why Staff? It’s damage is terrible. It’s not good for stacking bleeds. I don’t see how it improves the Nemesis build at all.

First point: Zerk gear doesn’t benefit condition damage naturally, it has no +condition damage. We take zerker gear because condition damage is severely lackluster in a pvE setting (refer to the countless posts explaining why for further info)

Essentially this is what it boils down too. As has already been stated in this thread (and Spoj’s admirable guide advising how to build lackluster pvE necros as viable as possible in his sticky’d guide) this is the most optimal way to play a necro in pvE. Anything other than this build, you can essentially use whatever build you want. Any sort of trait distribution or gear stats that aren’t what’s posted above are irrelevant. Either you build optimally for pvE, or you play and build however you want. It’s up to you, most pvE content in this game is pretty mindless.

Personally, I like being optimal, so I either play a more pvE viable class, or if I am going to take my Necro, I’m utilizing a build that makes me as optimal as possible. This build is the one stated above (6/6/0/0/2, full berserker, dagger + WH and focus)

Edit: Simply inputting my opinion here; while I found Nemesis’ videos entertaining, regardless if his builds were ever considered viable, they certainly aren’t now. If you insist on building your necro around that idea, that’s fine, as long as you’re aware that necros are already severely lacking in the utility department when it comes to dungeons/pvE. Limiting your damage by building condi just makes an already unviable class even less desirable to your group.

@ MikeHR: Please. The Op isn’t suggesting anything specific. Where on earth did you get that the idea he/she was referring specifically to forum posts? Because they posted this on a forum? Surely you see that idiocy in that. Is there somewhere else they should express this without the bias of people like you assuming simply because you post your opinion on virtually the only place it can be viewed by Anet that it should be inherently disregarded simply because they voiced their opinion on the only means of expression Anet can see? Is there a democratic meeting that’s held monthly I wasn’t made aware of?

Irrelevant. I’m not here to debate. I’m here merely to express that I acknowledge the personal expression the OP has conveyed here. Whether I agree with his/her complaints or not I don’t see worth voicing right now. The point of my post is simply to point out that some here, whether their complaints are justified or not, serve to show that Anet has some pretty dedicated fans behind it. I’m simply looking at things outside the box here. For a company to have someone communicate their emotional investment in the game like this, is something to consider, regardless of how you feel about what their specifically trying to express.

Some will take what I’m pointing out into consideration. Those that won’t will disregard my and the OP’s post as, simply, different form their own, and therefore, unimportant.

Either way, I find it comforting people here are able to voice their disapproval with anet (which seems to be, like a newly buffed class, the new flavor of the month from the forums) in an actual way that involves more than just, Anet omgwtfbbq do you even lift, which I have seen (granted this is in.. simplified terms-ish) so frequently on the forums these past few days.

I don’t like that I get so annoyed every time I see vee wee make posts like these, talking in the 3rd person and such. No offense vee wee, I know it’s not really sensical of me. Uh, especially considering I literally just now found out sensical isn’t a word by typing it in here. Am I the only one who totally thought this was a word? Good to know I s’pose.

Anyway, what specifically about the sword are you referring to? The auto attack lock? I don’t think any ranger will tell you they like working around it (ok maybe some will, I sure as heck don’t) It is however, our highest dps weapon in pvE by a fair margin last I checked.

Could be wrong now since the patch, but Longbow was really the only weapon that received any buffs, and I’m quite certain it hasn’t taken over 1h swords spot as our highest dps weapon in pvE. I’ll let the number crunchers confirm that though.

Still, yes the auto attack lock has been brought up countless times. I find casting WH 4(which is usually my offhand), then dodging during the cast animation helps me. Some recommend turning off the AA chain, but personally it never really solved the problem for me.

Wah, Yah, Wahoo! Bye camrades!

Since it doesn’t do anything when out of range, it shouldn’t work unless in range. Simple.

One day Anet may code well. One day.

Hmm, I seem to remember specifically whenever I tried casting this out of range, the ability never triggers and it goes on CD, and then I get mad at myself.

I could be wrong though, or maybe it’s a personal issue.

I seem to have a lot of those.

Is this real life?

is this just fantasy?

Caught in a landslide.

Yes yes no escape from reality why do I keep seeing these lol, I admit I chuckled after the first post or two but now it just seems like you’re trying too hard xD

Granted classic song is classic don’t get me wrong.

On topic, it sure would have been nice if Anet gave new characters the option to enable this whole thing or not. Even if it said something like: Do you wish to enable idiot mode? Check yes or no.

But in all seriousness, it’s as if anet didn’t think the effect this would have on people who have already learned and mastered (or at least very familiar with) most of the elements of the game, in any way shape or form when making this update. Surely it crossed their minds at least? Maybe they just decided the hopes of acquiring new players was worth Effing over the already established ones who wanted to make alts? I just want to the ability to turn off idiot mode if I wish. Anet just throw up a “ARE YOU ABSOLUTELY SURE? It is STRONGLY recommended to continue using idiot mode if you are an idiot.” message if someone accidentally hits yes.

And, for lawsuit purposes, maybe, if we do hit YES, add an obligatory: “Areanet is not responsible for heads exploding resulting in an overload of information due to the sheer complexity the leveling process has in this game.”

Just lookin’ out for you Anet^

I’m not boasting or claiming to be good at this game in anyway, but I found this fight remarkably simple. Surely you know how to dodge op? I mean, youre aware its a mechanic that exists in this game, is simple to execute, and will save you all this frustration?

The only “hard” part of this fight was figuring out to jump during the one attack, which isn’t too difficult to conclude, since the entire floor lights up.

My only death was a result of dodging off the side like an idiot.

My prediction? Anise has something sinister going on. I got the feeling she was the mastermind behind the rumors during the first part (and I actually believe that minister when she said she wasn’t with bandits that night) Then there’s Canach all the sudden by her side constantly now.

Something isn’t adding up. But then hey, this is just like, ya know, my opinion man.

If we’re talking about removing the ability to fast travel as a means of more immersion and realistic play, then you should probably also be asking for a fatigue meter to be added along with it.

Have you already forgotten how running makes you tired? I had such an intense conditioning segment before basketball season started back in high school, I still am traumatized by it. To the point when I’m running for a long enough time period with my character, I instinctively think something along the lines of “Good thing characters have unlimited stamina because last time I ran near this amount I nearly passed out.”

I just find it funny people are asking for waypoints to be removed for “immersion” purposes. Yet I see no one asking for a fatigue meter to accompany it, forcing your character to have to freaking /sleep for 5 minutes after running a certain duration.

At any rate, WPs are here to stay, I assure you.
