Rofl it does not support GTX470???
Windows 8 Professional
But wait a second.
I don’t like this change, but you won’t be using that gear in sPvP. You can use it in PvE and WvWvW.
Guys, my gf survived to an entire WvW session (lasted 1 evening) with a lvl2 warrior and equip, without dying… will some ascended armors/weapons make difference?
It’s a 300vs300 game mode.
Windows 8 Professional
100 pages, mostly against this change.
Well, this is how many people there were who were not complaining about the state of the game. I suppose this is what happens when you listen to the loud whiners without polling the actual player base ;-)
*TL;DR *
The matter summarized.
Windows 8 Professional
I’m afraid you have to download the game again, yes.
Or at least the GW2.exe executable.
Windows 8 Professional
So this might be exclusively server related.
Is anybody reading this from Whiteside Ridge that can confirm that culling issues are no longer affecting our server?
Windows 8 Professional
Okay. I’m playing from EU. I’m playing in Whiteside Ridge, that means that sometimes has queues, but not at the hours that usually see me logged in.
Are you playing from US?
Windows 8 Professional
Okay, this thing is driving me crazy then. Which servers are you guys on?
Windows 8 Professional
I’m comfirming that “I see everybody”. Had a zerg session yesterday and I still don’t experience culling issues.
I see everybody.
Apart from the game patches. the thing that is changed is that now I’m playing from Windows 8 (clean installation, not upgrade).
Hardware is detailed in my signature.

This is hilarious.

Hi, I played WvWvW for an entire evening some day some days ago and felt that I wasn’t suffering from the famous “invisible enemies” glitch. Actually, I think I saw them all!
Is anybody still experiencing this issue? (aka “Was I lucky?”)
Windows 8 Professional
bump for this? This should be an easy question

Can I activate it or is it considered a cheat by the program itself?
I’m asking because TS3 obviously has a disclaimer about this stuff.

I won’t disable that setting, because if I do it INVERTS the direction of my scroll wheel in the normal usage of Mac. So for me the problem is still open. Any other way to fix it?

perception differs per screen as well fyi, on crappy displays that pad frames i can see how bad 45 is, on low latency displays its impossible to notice.
Not untrue.
I’m talking about the same monitor obviously, with the example that I made i shown her a videogame @45 FPS capped and @30FPS. I could see the difference, she didn’t (and we are both gamers and computer scientists aswell).
Just accept it, we are different, and we see different.

In this very moment I had no buttons, as stated in the thread. No matter what I did, they were not appearing.
Then I answered to a thread in the Tech Support forum, and they appeared.
And no matter what I do, they are not disappearing now.
Probably something in the login function is not “saving” some state, and the “view thread” function doesen’t show anything more that is not shown to a “not logged in” user.
EDIT: Correction, some threads are still showing no buttons. But in this thread I did not see any buttons before i replied to a thread in the Tech support forum. Now i see them.

@Squall Leonheart: No, 45 is not a minimum required to play games.
It is YOUR minimum.
My girlfriend doesen’t really notice the difference between 30 and 45 fps. I do.
It depends on the person. The movies are presented at 27 FPS but you don’t experience “low fps” in the cinema, lol.
Windows 8 Professional
Really cool idea.
Windows 8 Professional
Man believe it or not, your rig is not going to help you in nothing apart from world of warcraft, that has a graphics engine that actually sucks.
I have a Core2Duo E6850 @3.5Ghz and a GTX 470 (believe me something like three times performance your 9800 ) and i still have FPS problems, so..
At least I can play the most recent games @ Maximum details and still get high FPS. I doubt you can max everyting apart from WoW or Aion (which compared to GW2 are really lightweight).
Windows 8 Professional
I think we need a little more explanation on this “transfer population’s” distribution.
Example:
100 people transfer from HoD to Kaineng
100 people transfer from JQ to Crystal Desert
100 people transfer from SBI to Blackgate200 people transfer from Kaineng/Crystal Desert/Blackgate to HoD.
So in this example, a vast majority of players are transfering off high population servers, yet one of the most populated servers actually increases in population because more people have that as their destination.
Interesting point of view. I think this might be the real matter here.

That’s actually bad.

Spies should not be allowed unless Anet plans on making them killable. If there is no way to deal with the spies, then there is no reason to allow supplies. As it stands “spying” is an obvious exploitation of the free server transfers, and should be treated as an exploit.
Totally agree.

I agree, a party of 5 is really disappointing. At least give the opportunity to make “alliances”. I found that you can create a “Squad”, but i could never manage to create one so I don’t know what it does.

GG @ArenaNet, people are leaving because they couldn’t play your game.
You know, playing WvW at 5 FPS while you’re getting killed by invisible people is NOT FUN.

@funforums (sorry, the quote function keeps mysteriously disappearing): that’s not true these days. almost any modern NIC uses TCP offload, and Windows has it enabled by default. Even if it weren’t, the amount of packet data being received per second by a single client wouldn’t be enough to create a noticeable increase in CPU load. Not only are there several research papers published on this in general as well as on the specific offload algorithms used and why they increase performance in this case, I deal with EXTREMELY high volume network performance testing and tuning on a daily basis as part of my job. Things that can saturate a GigE or 10GigE connection, as well as the switch backplane the load generators are connected to.
As for the server: It’s actually a cluster, and each machine in the cluster would also be using TCP offload (all major *nixes have it enabled these days as well). Which is probably one culprit here (or at least a tweak they’d want to look into), since using TCP offload when you’re dealing with a very high number of simultaneous connections and a high traffic volume is actually inefficient for a number of reasons.
Actually I didn’t know of TCP offload, sincerely speaking. And now that I think about it, without such a technology MMOs wouldn’t be possible, lol.
Anyway can you link me some type of inefficiencies of this TOE? Maybe some are related to our situation, and anyway I’m actually pretty much curious about this right now.

I wanted to share with you my piece of mind: CPU is also involved in packing and unpacking network packets in TCP/IP communication.. maybe, and I underline maybe, the delay we see is the sum of the extreme “packing” overload in the server, summed to the “unpacking” time in the client.
This would explain why the problem happens in WvW only (extreme server overload) and why lowering the graphic quality has a good impact on reducing the problem: the client’s CPU has more resources to “unpack” the incoming packets.
Windows 8 Professional
My little piece of mind: thank god leveling is the way it is, because i’ve got a real life and I don’t wanna spend the first three months of my game in leveling up.

60fps? ahahha. I’ll probably be grandpa when this game will reach 60fps in WvW.. it’s poorly optimized in character rendering and network code, so you’ll basically suffer of two problems in WvW:
1. 10 fps in zerg fights
2. fights in which you won’t see enemies, because you don’t renderize them soon enough, or the server doesen’t send them soon enough, or maybe both I don’t know.
Windows 8 Professional
I saw some little improvements in the game’s responsiveness, but the overall performance remains almost the same. In LA i found myself quite surprised when I didn’t get stuttering while I was in the middle of 20-30 people on my mobile i3. On my E6850 i found an increment of 3-4 fps in huge zergs( 5-7 fps before, 8-10 today).
Can anybody confirm this or am I victim of a sort of placebo effect?

We are still tracking down common driver issues and hardware problems and weeding out the differences between things that are our problem vs. a system related issue.
Well, I’m pretty sure that you are not allowed to come in here and say something like:
“Well, I’m terribly sorry but I must admit that our minimal system requirements are a LIE. Yes, our MMO is not the worst out there, but it’s still completely unoptimized. Now that the game went live, our developer team got cut short, so we won’t be able to rewrite the 3D engine anytime soon and we will just hope the problem goes away in a year or two, when people buy new hardware.
Please don’t expect any sort of improvement anytime soon. Maybe in a year.
We screwed up the code, screwed up the polycount and screwed up the netcode so as a result it’s pretty much impossible to get any PLAYABLE framerates (in WvW and towns) even on the most expensive rigs there are."
Yes. We are all pretty much aware that you will never, ever speak the truth (nothing personal ofc Ashley, company policies, yadda yadda), because the truth is NEVER a part of any real money making business.
That being said, your “we know it’s on our end” shift to “it’s PARTIALLY on our end” is VERY disturbing.
ALSO (yes, I’m quite serious here) I think it’s time to get some INTERNATIONAL LAWS in place (lol) concerning so called “minimal system requirements”. Those prerequistite should be:
“This system can run the game at 30+ FPS, AT ANY GIVEN TIME at the lowest possible detail settings” (this should be translated to a law gibberish language).
I agree. There has to be some standard that guarantees that the requirements that a company specifies for his product are REAL and correspond to a minimum specific and MEASURABLE performance.
Windows 8 Professional
@Rolo
Yeah and with that you’re just consuming more and more Watts. And guess what? Higher voltage will make your hardware just heat, as I said. Wrong formula, but correct statement.
Blahblah anyway I’m just not answering to this anymore, I just said that getting higher voltage won’t get any help to the hardware such as a “cleaner wave shape” because the “wave shape” is clean enough, and won’t make ANY difference in performance, apart from cases in which the voltage was too low compared to the needed power. And still I state that there’s no reason to state that hardware designers are giving such a lower voltage to require an overvolt. Physics is just outside the discussion. Getting higher voltage won’t fix anything, as it didn’t when I tried it.
Probably, it worked for you alone, because your actual card was in need of an overvolt.
So please stop posting placebo effect fixes that require overvolting before somebody makes the wrong move and fries his hardware.
@AshleySegovia: My PC’s CPU is in the minimum requirements and is getting 8 fps in WvW (With a GTX470).
If you can’t track the problem on your hardware (I can’t imagine how, as almost everyone is getting FPS issues and I’ve got 5 computers with different hardwares and none of them can run this game without performance issues) can we help you using our computers?

Can no longer select certain Character without crashing, on multiple PCs
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: funforums.4850
After playing for several days with no crashing issues at all, I am now experiencing a crash during the load screen every time I select a certain character to play. My other characters load into the world fine with no issues. I checked to see if could log into my account and load my character using a friend’s computer, and his game crashed as well, even though he hasn’t had any previous issues and is using completely different hardware. Customer service has only suggested fixes dealing with my client, such as:
-Deleting and reinstalling the client
-Running the Guild Wars 2 -repair tool
-Deleting Local.dat and GW2.tmp
-Removing old drivers and updating to beta drivers
-Changing various graphics options in the gameNone of these have done anything to resolve the issue. Recently, a second character succumbed to the load-crashing and can’t be selected without crashing the game. That charaacter is also confirmed to crash on other PCs, while my remaining characters work fine.
My level 25 warrior is located in Divinity’s Reach
My level 42 Guardian is located in Blazeridge Steppes.

How actually did you try to log in in other PCs? Did you install GW2 separately or did you copy your installation to other PCs just to watch them crash over and over?
It sounds like that you downloaded a corrupt installation, and my guess is that if you copied it on other PCs, it just wouldn’t work as it’s not working on yours.

Can you play with your graphics detail? Changing some values (shadows, shaders) will make this problem disappear?

Wow, here’s something unexpected. After reading a few posts up about removing the latest .net 4 security updates improving performance, I decided to try something similar. In my case, because I use almost no programs that require it, I uninstalled .net using the methods I linked above, and then used the uninstaller program also linked.
My stuttering when turning around, gone. My frame rates in Lions Arch, up by 10-15 fps. My fps in WvW, with everything maxed, now more close to 50 in heavy combat as opposed to the low 30’s. Subjectively, the game feels a LOT smoother.
I won’t claim this will fix you problems, I can only claim that doing it did improve my personal performance on a i5 3570k at 4.5 with a GTX 670 at 1250/3700.
One other thing that’s still too early to tell if it sticks: I’ve had trouble keeping my 670 at max clocks in WvW combat. More specifically, because the game is so CPU dependent, the card clocks down to slower speeds at times (as the 6xx series is supposed too). The problem I’ve had is that after doing this is often gets stuck and doesn’t clock back up. When playing just now, I noticed the card clocking down when no required…and clocking back up in heavy combat scenes as it is supposed to do, without getting stuck. This one I’m still uncertain about, I’ll need more WvW time to determine if it’s fixed. But, the removing .net 4 did improve my performance, in a very measurable way.
If you would like to remove .net, please first make sure you have no critical programs you use that require it, or at least be cognizant of what will stop working when it’s gone. Usually it’s helper programs like the Razer synapse app in my case.
If you’re comfortable removing it, follow these steps:
http://revenmerchantservices.com/post/Remove-net-framework-40.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspxIf removing it gives you no improvement, or you need .net back, just re-install it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851Some people have also installed the original package and NOT the updates, which seem to be the culprit, you can try that as well.
I wont promise you a miracle, as we’ve seen, different things seems to work for different people, this just worked well for me.
Tried and no difference in .NET 4.0 removal.

Nontheless, turning up VOLTAGE without turning up CLOCK is nonsense, since you’re just overheating your video card, as more current is flowing into it, without using it.
It isn’t nonsense: increasing voltage makes a cleaner wave-shape; if the current clock is a little too much to be 100% reliable, an increase in voltage can fix that.
Additionally, voltage and current are two separate things. Voltage increase does increase thermal output but not necessarily overheating it, which depends on the cooler attached to it.
-+-
This everything FPS merger eliminates redundant topics but it creates confusion as there are several reasons for low FPS: CPU-limits, GPU limits, game limits; the first two the user can remedy and really can be its own thread and I tried to start a thread that clearly identifies (not guessing) a software limitation.
bunch of crap. There is no reason thinking that hardware designers are forcing an insufficient voltage for their hardware. Nontheless, turning on voltage does increase the current flowing as stated by OHM’s LAW: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohm's_law
It’s OBVIOUS that the heat depends on the cooling system that is supporting the video adapter, but it’s also clear that increasing voltage will increase current, and increasing current will both increase heat and lower the hardware’s lifetime.
So stop posting crap, please.
I’ve read about the .NET 4.0 incompatibility, i’ll give it a shot and let you know, even if I didn’t know that .NET was necessary for GW2.
Windows 8 Professional
Are you sure you don’t have a corrupted installation?
Maybe the problem is inside your downloaded GW2.dat that contains errors.
Windows 8 Professional
No, Throttling is at 0% in the monitoring program.
Try the latest drivers of AMD ati drivers plus the updated CAP (catalyst application profiles) that they released some days ago, i heard they fixed some FPS problems with ATI cards, as they contains profiles that are optimized for GW2.
