Not sure if this belongs here or in general discussions, since this is more in relation to any possible advantages one may be able to obtain from crafting rather than crafting itself.
Im currently near 450 in armorsmith and so far I have seen little to no benefits in spending hours looking for crafting materials and using them to craft.
Some recipes require a ridiculous ammount of rare items which are hard enough to find; buying them is not cheap and in the end the crafted item sells for less than half what it cost you to make not justifying either the time or the money spent.
So in the economic side, as far as 450 in armorsmithing goes, its the economic equivalent to jumping legs spread from a second floor onto an iron handrail.
In regard to interesting items there is, so far, nothing that I could not have bought myself at the auction.
I keep expecting that at 500 things will do a 180 turn, and the unique items I should be able to craft will sell for over 100g and cost an appropriate ammount, that will allow me to have a profit or at least obain items that can not be found in the auction, worth of the time and money spent on them.
Not sure how many of you are at 500 and could inform me if this is so or if Im just wasting my time.
At this point Ive found out it would be more appropriate to simply farm and sell any crafting material.
What are your opinions? is crafting in GW2 worth the trouble?
The best they could do is something similar to Everquest Next added to the current gameplay, but that might require a complete remake of the game engine.
I would love some player owned houses, like the ones they have in Lord of the Rings Online.
it would be awesome.
putting your items at 9g, doesn’t gurantuee they’ll sell, in fact huge chance they won’t…alot of people want to sell their item first… so they place it at a lower price,
than someone else places it lower and so own.Its very difficult to make money with crafting, however with research, it’s also very possible.
Yes I know and Im willing to risk it, and in spite of what everyone says about supply an demand, though logical, its still implying that I should sell a product for less than the cost of the bus ride I took to get to the place I want to sell it. A bussines practice such as the one stated in real life, would mean that I would willingly owe more money for each item I make and keep making them beyond bankrupcy.
The only solid plan here would be to forgoe crafting and concentrate on farming for crafting materials which retain a solid price.
It has been bothering me for quite some time but I had not been able to fully confirm until I finally managed to reach 450 in weaponsmith that the market seem rather ludicrous in the sense that crafted items are not sold at the propper price.
Pulling it up in numbers I realized that a sword I was making cost over 6g to make as per the cost of materials, but the highest seller had it at just over 3g making it half it cost to actually make it.
This seems to be the same for all crafted items, and whilst it may be good in terms of cheaper items, marketwise its unrealistic.
Of course I decided to start selling my swords at 9g to get some profit, but it makes me wonder if others have not realized this or if there is something I dont know and Im doing wrong.
One of the best things about GW2 is how nice people are, generally that is because from time to time you can come about some real jerks and Im not talking abou WvW, where you are allowed to be a mean #$!@ to your opponent, Im talking about this new group that has decided to make a proffit out of something that is free, namely those who sell dungeon runs for the city of Arah.
I know it shouldnt get to me, Im not going to be dumb enough to pay for bottle of water that is even more contaminated than the one coming out of the tap, but there are plenty of people out there falling for this dumb scheme and who, unfortunately, will veer away from those making the run just because its fun, which in turn its leaving a lot of honest to goodness people hanging out to dry.
Its not illegal, that much has been made clear by Arenanet, but its annoying and a clear sign of how many rotten apples there actually are trolling around in this great game.
My advice to people, steer clear of these leeches, create your own -FREE -groups and enjoy the game with people that dont care if you shot that arrow a second too early, or cast the wrong spell, its all about fun.
I know this has probably been said a dozen time, but I needed to get it off my chest.
It would also be cool if you could have dyes with effects, such as fire or frost applicable to weapons and armours.
Now, if they could make something like Mount And Blade I can imagine it being good. Oh and replace the horses with Charr.[/quote]
I havent played mount and Blade, but what I saw in youtube does have appeal. LOTROs combat does have some similarities, but theres a lot more to LOTRO mounted combat, than what you probably saw in youtube, specially considering that the mount in LOTRO gains exp. and traits of its own, making the rider and mount 2 separate characters that ride and work as one; also when I used the mount the hits connected pretty well, and like MAB you needed plenty of skill and strategy for the fight.
Like I said LOTRO is restricted to horses due to storyline ( no Charrs in LOTR) , but Anet could even use Devourers or even add vehicles like Charr tanks.
Anet’s cretive team could likely be able to improble many times over LOTRO and MABs mounted combat design, but it would probably take a GW3 to implement the nesesary changes to the game.
If Anet wanted to add mounted combat in GW2 it would be suggested to make the mounts available in a WvW or PvP created for such purpose.
One of my favorite MMOs next to GW2 is Lord of the Rings online.
Mounts were some of the most fashionable items in LOTRO, but served no other purpose than transportations.
A year ago, like World of Warcraft, LOTRO was stagnating and players started to get bored but when the developers of LOTRO got to the expansion when they got to Rohan they found out they had to include combat to the mounts.
Their approach to mounted combat was trully revolutionary in the world of MMOs and revived gameplay entirely, combat was once more fun and gameplay far more dynamic.
Of course this meant that the developers of LOTRO had to create areas in which would be able to make the most out of mounted combat, whilst still making those areas friendly to players on foot.
GW2 could seriously benefit from mounted combat if they take a page from LOTRO and not being relegated to horses as was Turbine ( LOTRO’S developers) due to storyline, Anet could use a wide variety of mounts, from horses to wolfs, to tanks to griffins, etc.
Depth there will never be enough of it, not until combat is as realistic as real life or as surrealistic as Hollywood, but then games just keep getting better and better.
I was adverse at trying out GW2 because of combat, I though skill bars were getting old and was more into trying out new types of mmos with, supposedly, fast paced combat.
Yet Im glad of being proven wrong, I hardly feel the skill bar, and am fiercely moving about trying to reinvent my combat strategy every time.
I have only made one combo so far, which I find disappointing, but it only means I have to plan my attacks better and pay more attention to my companions.
So far I love combat and its depth, as said, will never be enough, but it certainly is not lacking and I would put it above any mmo out there right now.
I personally believe mounts in mmos is a greatly underestimated topic.
To mention another popular MMO Lord of the Rings Online, in Riders of Rohan expansion it introduced a new set of mounts, namely for mounted combat.
these mounts have redefined the player experience, re-freshening a nearly 5 year old MMO and making combat versatile fast paced and far more strategical.
I’m not trying to make a commercial for Turbine, I’m just trying to point out what mount and mounted combat is capable of doing for even an aging mmo.
Whilst LOTRO is limited by the lore of Tolkien’s works Guild wars can be far more versatile adding far more diversity such as flying and underwater mounts.
imagine riding a giant crab that can grab it enemies with pincers whilst your mounted elementalist sets strike him with lighting, or a small flying dragon that pours fire from above.
even more is the combat, itself between mounted opponents, that becomes a fierce dance to the likes of aerial dog-fights even when on the ground.
the one problem this has come to present in LOTRO is a severe case of lag, but should
GW2 be able to resolve this then it would be a great advancement to the game.
