What roles do your alts play?

I basically choose each one depending on what I’m in the mood for staring at on the screen for hours.

Necromancer when I want to be “Death Incarnate” and dress up with skulls and dark robes.
Engineer for longcoats, pirate garb and amusing flamethrower times and silliness.
Guardian for smashing things with a hammer and the color teal.
Warrior for the black/green color scheme.
Charr elementalist when I want to burn everything and be a kitty.
Revenant, still testing it out to see how I like it.

Please, sirs, I want some mittens

That would be cute. I think we could use a lot of random wintery items that are separate, not a complete outfit.

This achievement actually upsets me...

How is it any different from the candy corn eating achievement from Halloween? My character had to eat so much candy he continuously vomited everywhere. There are many references to alcohol in GW2, it’d be wrong to remove them. It’s as much a part of the world as anything else. If you’re making the argument that young kids play the game and shouldn’t be exposed to characters getting drunk, then we’d better get rid of the weapons and start hitting the enemies with pillows instead.

Also I know that even if I had the cash- buying things outright with money would trivialize them. While it would be satisfying in the short term to just have what I want instantly, I suspect it would more or less ruin the game for me.

Desire is funny like that. Often we think we want the objects of our desires when what we really want is the act of desiring itself.

Am I to assume from this statement that you never achieve any goals (objects) because you value the act of desiring itself? Wouldn’t it ruin the the game if you got anything you desired then?

This may seem like news to a lot of people, but a lot of folks spend a ridiculous amount of time at work, toiling away for money. It isn’t easy or quick to make money, it takes real-life effort and time. And when you spend a lot of time at work, you don’t always have endless time to waste grinding for a virtual object. That’s why I don’t think buying items with real money trivializes them any more than spending your valuable time.

Suggestion: school uniform outfit! :D

We have a serious lack of plain clothing available. I would be interested in school-type uniforms. So far I think we only have a few options available if you want your character to be in a suit… there’s the Count outfit and the marriage one. But nothing has just a normal button-down shirt and tie type of look. I’ve wanted a necktie for quite some time, and I’m sure people would appreciate bowties as well.

I think that would be wildly inappropriate and find difficulty in imagining how a game developer would want that to happen. Why do you ask?

I do a lot of solo content. Necromancer is a great class for soloing because, as you just said, of the minions. There’s also the shroud abilities which steal a lot of health for you. I’ve also found that it’s pretty easy to solo on my Guardian, and to a lesser extent my Warrior. It all depends on your build and re-directing the enemies. But those professions are pretty hard to kill.

New Black Lion Weapon Skins....Really?

I had the most fun looking at the improvised weapon skins. I’m highly amused by them. They’re appropriate for Halloween, being the kind of stuff you’d pick up to defend yourself from a zombie invasion, etc.

It isn’t necessarily on Anet’s end. A high latency network connection can have the same game symptoms. I’ve seen this timeout before where you can log in but can’t connect to a map when trying to connect from California to the EU datacenter without a VPN.

I don’t understand how the problem could originate from the user’s end here. All these people having similar issues at the same time? I could run the game perfectly earlier today and have changed nothing at all. I can connect to the internet just like normal. I shouldn’t have any issues connecting to the server.

Don’t know if it’s related or a complete fluke, I was about to post “me too” on this problem- all my characters never got past loading screen but a friend suggested I do a repair from this guide:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client

Took about 10 minutes and then I logged in and everything’s great – hopped multiple characters, doing things, changing zones

I performed this repair, but it did not solve my problem.

I also did the repair and am still having the issue. I can get to the character loading screen but can’t load the map they were on.

It’s definitely a server issue on Anet’s end. Hopefully they’re working on it.

Anyone not buying HoT and still playing ?

I won’t be buying HoT for a while. My gaming laptop is old and has pretty much run out of space. And I’ve run out of money. When I fix those two problems I do plan to get the expansion.

Did I mention I hate jumping puzzles?

I love jumping puzzles. I fail at them 90% of the time, especially when I have no idea where to go, but the satisfaction of finishing one is very pleasing.

I’m thinking it’s fine the way they’re doing it. Completely destroyed, in the process of rebuilding, and rebuilt. Those stages are simple and effective. It would be way too much time and effort devoted to updating the map a tiny bit every day. I don’t need to see actual daily progress in order to believe that the workers are rebuilding Lion’s Arch.

… Besides, I really want to see the finished city!
