My point was not about root, but about gap closer.

Sword is a very good defensive weapon, thanks to evade. It can be be a very good offensive weapon if you manage to trick the ennemy in your range while he thinks you are just a bowman.
But if you try to play more offensive to catch up with an elusive ennemy , you can not close distance. You have to fall back to bow or axe for range attack, or greatsword if you are a pure melee.

In other word it is quite easy to counter sword when you know how it works, you just need to create distance before ennemy player can user sword #1. most people have not realised it cause they are not used to play against sword ranger.

Ranger is not just about bow, devs made that clear. I think it is only fair to give a gap closer to a melee player.

As you know, sword #1 alternates “slash” which has no gap closer, “Kick” which allows you to cripple at 400 and “Pounce” that makes ou leap at 430.
Beauty of the sword it that you can maintain contact to your target once you are close. The issue is to get close…Since melee ranger has no initial gap closer when using the sword. Not on sword, not on off-hand not on utility. That is strange, isn’t it?

But there is something stranger: sword’s jump happen when you do not want it! For example when your target goes in stealth, you start to chain jumps… In the best case you get far from you target when actually you wanted to finish it. In the worst case you perform the infamous ranger cliff jump.
I cannot believe that someone intented to make a melee weapon that does not allow you to get close to target when you want, but makes you jump away from it when you do not want. :p

A nice fix would be to get the 3rd or the 2nd ability comes first (and be activated only when you have a target selected in range). You would jump , then cripple, then hit.

Simple and logical.

People have been complaining of this issue for weeks. And there is no serious update on the topic. In terms of customer relationship it is lame.

I am assuming Anet does not put enough resource to solve the issue. They are obvioulsy not taking this seriously. May be because it does not impact their bottom line- YET.

If you completely die in WvW, you should die.

i can only see valid points to OP proposal.

it would certainly add tatical depth at almost no cost.( guerilla , assasination..)

Zerg would suffer from attrition, the further there are from their spawn point. it would provide an interesting challenge for commanders.

And it would remove issue of nameplates of deap players polluting the battle field .

Anet should give it a try .

Congratz to Gandara for their victory and to AG for their fighting spirit.

This was an interesting week even if does not end well for us. I believe Far shiperpeaks players can still be proud of their performance and i want to thank commanders i had opportunity to play with. They did an awesome job. I am sure they see this experience as opportunity to step up our game.

I would really like culling to be fixed(every thing else being equal), but i would actually be surprised if it was happening next patch. Anet has not been really good so far at managing expectations …

I like the idea of zerg being slower. May be you should get combat speed rate applied if you are ikittenerg. It would leave a chance to individuals to run away from a zerg. But on the other hand, i do not want the zerg to become so slow that is a pain.

What i would like to see if “Fog of War”, like in RTS game. when you need to have units at a location to see it. I believe it could add some strategic depth, if well done.
-It could provide and incentive to indivuals and parties to scout the map and hopefully multiply small fights.
- It could mean also be addtionnal items to build or upgrade like watchtowers ( a light/wood structure ).
- players could get an option to “spot” parties/zerg and flag them on the map for others.
-etc…
But it is March… not Christmas .

I feel like the forum should be divided in a “Hot Join” and a “tPvP” forum.

Issue is population of tPvP depends of sPvP’ population.

If Hot Joins are not fun for new players, thery will not want to make effort to find a team and queue for tournaments. Bad experience in Hot Joins make people move away from GW2 PvP. You have exemples of such feedback in this very thread. But how many in this forum ? And how many people who did not come here to complain and just walked away?

To grow or even maintain a population you need new blood to replace people who become burned out. It is not a question of the quality of the game. Hot joins is an entry point for new players and should naturally lead them to tPvP. But it is not happening.

There is a reason why there are so many thiefs and mesmers in hotjoin. Each player look at his options and eventually come to conclusion that thief and mesmers are the best classes to play hotjoins. (That does not mean those are the best classes for tPvP!)

Invidually this decision makes sense. Collectively it just become a poor experience.

And it kills pvp.

Same here.

I am playing only WWW at the moment, from France. At times i get lag/freeze of several seconds.

a) Before previous patch i did not have any significant lag

b)My computer used to run GW2 usually very well on highest settings. Now i can get down to lowest settigns and still experience some freeze. And i did not installed anything new, did not change anything.

c) I do not have any performance issue with any other program

c) People that report issues have different telco providers.

-#2 is ok. it would be really good, if there was not this attack delay before jumping back. I can not count the number of time where i wish i would have jump back sooner. Add a little lag, and you start to wonder if you actually pressed the button.
-#3 is average. Good output but very hard to use , since you need to have the space to use it.

I use torch with sword, for offensive, since two sword abilities already provide some evasion.

You havn’t seen the pet heal you when it was dead?

I’ve had that happen several times now

Actually now i have seen in it a couple of times, always under water. My pet was healing me and kept doing it after he died. It needs to be fixed.

Agree with OP. Spvp maps are not designed for long range weapon. Even on shortbow most of the time you do not need or you can not be at max range.

But issue is not just map, it is also other players abilities: almost all class playing melee will have one insta-1200-gap closer or more. I guess they did not want to see snipers taking down people from range without taking actual risk.

There are actually very few players i have seen in spvp, who using longbow well. And their damage was not coming from longbow, but from traps or pet. Longbow is a PVE weapon.

Most of the time it works for me. But it is still very annoying when it does not ( with pet alive ofc). I believe it is better to call pet back then activate lick wounds.
I have yet to see the bug with dead pet.

However i did experienced OP healing underwater. Attacking, i had an easy time ,as soon as i realised what was happening: I just killed the pet then the ranger.
While downed myself I used that to my benefit and i managed to rally and killed 2 players. Obviously they did not think about killing my pet. But it should not be possible. It does not make sense that you are in a better position to do a 2 vs 1, when you are down…

On earth, it works quite well using a wolf: stun> fear> lick wound + self heal. There is a reasonable chance that you will heal yourself before enemy is back from fear.

3)Other classes DO have trademark ability. e.g Mesmer portal.

Obviously you do not play that much pvp, but i am glad you are doing well in PVE.

I am talking about interface we get to join a PVP match ( not tournament). I understand devs may be focusing their time to get tournaments right, but free sPVP could use some love.

“play now” feature is terrible: When you are a new joiner and just want to play a game you clink this and ends up in a a game whith limited number of players – while there are some games going that miss players. if you want to play a 8v8 game, it seems reasonnable to assume you would rather join a 15vs16 match than a 3vs2…

List of servers display is a bad idea. Do you want to advertise that you have 300 “servers” empty? I understand that some players may want to join a specific server( to be with a friend for example). But I would assume that for most players juqt want to be able to join a 8v8 or a 5v5 .
And by joining , i mean without gettign 3 times in row this error telling that server you are trying to join is full(even when it is not). Guess what ? I did not want to join this server. I just wanted to join a server.
=> get 2 buttons to hoitjoin, one for 5v5 one for 8v8
=> display only list of servers where there are players
=> Provide option to join start on an empty server

This way you may be able to start to do some “balance” for hotjoins.Obviously you can not do that if you let people pick their server.
=> try to match people ranks ( does not replace a ladder but it would be start).
=> try to balance classes. What is the point to have 4 thiefs on one side and 1 on the other? ( i say thief but i could have say mesmer, or necro or…thief:P)

Remove auto-balance in Game. Why does it exist in first place? If you need to rebalance teams, do it between maps. If you lose a match it is not the end of the world. But begin send on the losing side is infuriating, when you ahve done your best to be on the winning side.

Stop map rotation. Provide separate queues to each map . Some people do not like some maps. Some people want to learn to a play a given map . And it is just fun to play again the same map, against the same team, and see if you can adapt your tactics.

Get a ladder for hotjoins too. It is not because we are casual that we do not want to see if we progress. if i am 400 000eme i would be happy to progress to reach 350 000 eme . Even if i can never dream of getting #1.Is it difficult to understand?

Do you need money for that? OK. Sell access right to ladder against gems. Sell access to additional PVP statistics. Provide a service. Do Something.

what goes the ranger gain with a pet?
- DPS. And certainly more since last patch
- A mini tank that take some of the damage aimed for the ranger
- Abilities that give better defense like temporary invulnerability ( protect me…) or condition removals
- Pet abilities ( buffs,cc, healing, combos or additional skill damage)
Looks awesome! Yes but devs, righlty so, do not want ranger to be stronger than other classes…So what we actually get is ranger+Pet= other Class . Pet does not bring something that other classes can not get.

What does ranger lose if is pet is dead? All of the above. In other word, pet is ranger weakness.
- Do you want to remove conditions? sorry pet dead (ty aoe condition damage).
- do you want to get a temp invuln? sorry pet dead
- do you want your pet to heal you when down? sorry…pet dead

It is up to each ranger to keep its pet alive , swap them efficiently .Ranger should choose appropriate pet for context. And of course Ranger need to manage its pet, call him back trigger special ability,etc. But this complexity is not rewarded. All in all the best you can manage is to do as well as a class without pet.

IMO ranger should be slightly stronger with his pet near him and slightly weaker without it , but i doubt this sweet spot can be achieved. At least what we may get , someday, is something that make pet special, and let Ranger bring something to a group that other classes can not.

I was quite surprise by this comment. How do you call an ability that is OP against “new” players and useless against “pro” players? I would say it is poor gameplay.

I am also wondering what is their business model… Do they actually intend to generate enough revenue to sustain PvP devs from a minority of “serious” players participating to paid tournaments? Or do they intend to make money with mass casual players, one day?

The only 1200 range gap closer in the game that’s not a slotted utility

. uh? tooltip says 1100. “Rush” for warrior Greatsword is 1200. “ride the lightning” for elementalist is 1200…

For the rest i agree, Greatsword for ranger is the best! In this game. I mean probably in every games! I guess that is why we see so many rangers swinging their greatsword in PVP, decimating opponents ,spreading fear, death and desolation across the battlefields.

After a couple of months,

Like
1) No pvp gear difference in SPvP is a great decision.
2) Lobby to try and experiment PvP was a good idea and was well done
3) 3 factions in WWW . How difficult is it for other Games Designers to get it?

Dislike
1) SPvP lasks purpose.
i mean:
- You can not measure your progress since you are not matched against people of same level(skill) and there is no ladder
- Individual score do not represent your actual contribution to your team performance. it just measure how well you did, sticking with main group.
- win/lose is meaningless since there is auto-balance kicking all the time. Imagine you are playing a basket ball match and each time you manage to score a 10 points difference team are “rebalanced”. Seriously? I would expect balance to be processed between matches, since anyway people more or less stay on same server.
2) Class Balance in general. Compromise between survivability and damage has not been well designed , enough said.
3) Down state . I like the idea of being able to rezz teammates, it brings some tactical decision to a fight. But i do not like the idea of having down players doing significant damage nor contributing to the fight in any way, since it negates 1vs2 chance for most classes.

All in all it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. At first i enjoyed it, now i only see the shortcomings. But nothing that can not be fixed.

My 2 cents. Your views?
