I think a lot of PvE players would like to do new events if they were in WvW as long as they didn’t have to kill other players.
No offense, but this doesn’t make any sense.
your suggestions would greatly hinder my playstyle
Perhaps you didn’t notice that I put the word “option” in bold? :-)
An option: Just like other available options (disable double-tap for dodge, free camera, AoE fired with just one click, etc.)
edit: I should have written about a “setting” rather than an option.

I almost never play PvE, so I wouldn’t know, but for PvP and WvW, I certainly would vote AGAINST removing the downed state mechanism.
You know chess? Good chess players know they must be very careful when they are about to win the game.. Any little mistake, even when the situation looks desperate for the losing player, could mean a complete reversal of the situation. This is key to tension, which you don’t find in any game that gives a certain win to whatever player has taken the lead.
In my opinion, the downed state achieves just that: It forces the player on top to be extra careful until the very end. You thought the victory was yours… but no! You weren’t careful enough, and now you are the one under!

This could be a popular option: Clicking on a skill button on the skill bar, instead of triggering the skill, would pop up the window that enables you to change one skill for another.
The current set up is just the opposite of what I need: A relatively big skill button that I never-never use to trigger the skill, and a very narrow band with a tiny arrow/triangle, onto which I must carefully bring my cursor in order to change the skill.
Of course, you can’t change a skill while fighting. That’s the way the game works, and I don’t disagree with that. If, during a battle, I wish to change a skill for another, I just move away until I get out of combat, and change the skill before returning to the battle. But if I accidentally hit the skill button instead of that narrow thing, then I am twice punished: Didn’t get the wanted skill, and triggered the skill I didn’t need, all for nothing!
Making it a bit easier to change skills would encourage players to diversify their tactics. More fun!
No, please don’t change anything!
It’s too much fun, the way it now is, to grab a bag or a chest in a split second, just as I am in the middle of a crazy fight between two zergs. It’s even more fun, after the battle is over, to trace back my steps marked by a bunch of bags I didn’t notice before!
There should be more aiming and focusing of individuals and less dropping bombs on zergs. Would provide so much more depth to large group fights. You actually would have to learn to fight classes instead of masses. <—-Dr Seuss baby.
Please do go on telling us about how single target attacks require aiming (they don’t) and how AoE attacks don’t need to be aimed (they do).
I was about to write just that.
For the OP who doesn’t like to suffer from a AoE that’s targeting a zerg, here is a simple suggestion: Don’t run with the zerg!

Contrary to other people here, I can only speak for myself. And I say: Let them come! the Dzagonur who insist on attacking Ogrewatch, Pangloss, Veloka, and our Overlook… For I very much enjoy farming them. :-)
It might help if, instead of a red tag for any enemy, the color would be blue, green or red, according to their server’s position in the tier.
Why not create a neutral zone that you can only access via a way point, where players from any of the three competing servers might meet and talk? It could be made so that nobody can spend to much time in there: After 10 minutes you are kicked out of the neutral zone; you can’t return for another half hour. Whether for discussing a temporary alliance or to taunt the enemy, it could be fun!
By the way, I would like an option to set the color of dead enemies to something else, perhaps a darker color. Sometimes it isn’t obvious who is dead and who is not, when there is crowd and fighting isn’t over yet.

Great post! But it should also be made possible to force anyone into a portal. This would allow you to skillfully eliminate a Lord or a boring player (enemy or not) by sending them elsewhere (imagine the fun!)
To avoid thus overpowering the Mesmer, the ability to force somebody into a portal should be given to another profession. The most logical choice for this would be this most brilliant tactician, the virtuous Guardian.
But why stop there? Portals being so much fun, every profession should be allowed to make use of them in their own special way. For instance, a Necromancer, coming near a portal exit, might be able to summon a random minion out of it.
As for Thieves, my suggestion would be that anytime they enter a portal, they would risk a 49% chance to be transported to Lion’s Arch. Fun!

Not everything is in the profession build, when playing WvW. With time you’ll learn to feel the various situations and how to react accordingly.
Keep an eye on the map to know where your commanders are, and always double check what server owns what tower or keep in your vicinity, so that you know where to run to, if you need help or a safe place. Learn how to hide (that’s obviously easier to do without them minions). You must also figure out what is your safe zone in different kinds of battles, depending on your available utilities and their cool down.
Key-bindings and camera settings can have a huge impact on your playing style and “survivability”. I use my thumb for moving – that gives me four fingers (on the left hand) for weapon skills and the rest. I use the “free camera” setting – not only can I look behind me when I run, but I can also position my AoE’s, staff #3 (chill) and staff #5 (fear) are great for building distance.
There is a thousand little things to learn, that makes it fun to play WvW.
Often enough you will meet a pair of Thieves successfully hunting together in WvW. What about two Necros? Have you any interesting experience for certain builts that work especially well together?
