Anytime I try to enter WvW i get “Unavailable while matches are being updated. Please try again in a few minutes”.

Is anyone else getting this? I’ve been trying for over an hour and couldn’t get in yesterday either.

Made a new Rev character and tried getting the Krait obelisk HP in The Grove.

After communing, it does the usual animation but the HP is not awarded although it now says it has been earned. You can also keep communing with it continuously and it keeps doing the animation but nothing else happens.

how to use mastery points?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

jamesg.7128

I also had trouble with this, it’s not very intuitive at all.
I think it would be more logical if it worked the other way around
ie spend a mastery point (MP) to unlock a track level then your XP levels it up and you gain that function as soon as it maxes out. Use another MP to unlock the next level or a different track etc.

A few comments -

WvW is the closest available equivalent to Open-world PvP

Weapon swap cooldown is by design to make you make choices. Anyway, it’s not so much the swap that’s delayed, but the swap back again.

Living story is free if you logged on while it was running. You didn’t even have to play it, just log on.

Requiring skills or traits for speed boosts is again a design decision to further differentiate classes. There are 2 mounts available in the store (broom and carpet) but they don’t give speed boosts.

Armour and toughness aren’t supposed to be for condition mitigation. That’s what vitality is for as well as condition clears. It’s all part of build making.

Enjoy the game for what it is, don’t be so down on it for what it is not.

Telstra cable here. Don’t seem to have any lag problems even when my kids are playing with me on their PC at the same time.
Do get the occasional DC though. Funny thing is, when we have both PCs running, one might DC but not the other so I don’t know what that’s about.

A little more info from an interview on Shacknews -

“All of the key, strategic locations provide strategic benefits to your world. Everything from providing abilities when you’re near your keep to preventing players from getting through chokepoints. The towers are the chokepoints of the map that prevent enemy army movement if they’re not able to break through. We’re really trying to place more strategic emphasis on that and, as part of that, we’ll be dealing with a lot of things that World v. World players are excited about seeing. That includes truly awesome battles and more strategic decision-making, the kind you would make in an RTS game, where you’re splitting your troops to attack different places, you’re bringing the army together, you’re scouting to determine where to go next, and we want to make that rewarding. The new Borderland map will feed into that, as well as the fundamental changes we’re making to the World v. World experience.”

Make of it what you will.

Holding wvw objectives MORE important?

A few more details in an interview on Shacknews -

“Shacknews: I’ve spoken to some of our readers and they’re concerned that interest in World v. World is starting to wane, but you are adding new content to it. What can you tell us about the Borderland map and how do you plan to build further interest in WvW?

Johanson: World v. World is one of the most unique experiences we have in Guild Wars 2, with hundreds of players fighting these epic sieges. It really is like being a troop inside an RTS game. There are amazing moments when you have battles to control towers or when you have armies facing off and we want to ensure that that’s the bread and butter of the World v. World experience. So we’re doing a lot of work to ensure that holding objectives through all of World v. World is a more important part of the experience. We’re going to make that a bigger part of victory, a bigger part of the strategic decisions that you and your army makes, and you really need to defend and hold your objectives. That leads to great battles between two sides when they’re strong and struggling to hold them.

The new Borderland map certainly has a lot of that built into it. Al of the key, strategic locations provide strategic benefits to your world. World experience."

I hope those “fundamental changes” are going to deal with lopsided matchups. I’m on IOJ, enough said.

Would people complain if...

everything added since release was added in one go instead of by drip feed?

I wonder. It seems these days that people’s attention span and patience and their expectations and sense of entitlement are such that they’re almost impossible to please no matter what devs do.

As an old time gamer I’ve played lots of different rpg games since Temple of Apshai for the TRS80 got me started down the dark path. Some are never updated, some get a release 2 and 3 etc, some have incremental updates and some have full expansions.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing per se that devs want to try some new or different. Different doesn’t have to mean bad just because it’s not what you’re used to.

So, if fractals, ETOM, Dry Top, Silverwastes, Southsun, changes to dungeons and Obsidian Sanctum, new PVP maps, new skills and traits, wardobe and mini changes etc (did I miss something?) were all released in one go say 18 months after release would people still complain about lack of new content?

I really think you need to get a Thesaurus, okay? You seem to be really overdoing the use of okay, but let me tell you it’s not always okay.
Surely the occasional alright, very well, fine or good could be thrown in now and then, okay?
There were some episodes where it seemed like every other line had an okay or 2 or 3 which I found somewhat annoying.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

jamesg.7128

I wouldn’t call it insulting, most MMOs have some sort of unlock system.

What I don’t understand though, is how to reconcile this with a player using the same weapon for 10 levels, again because he doesn’t know any better apparently and then trying a new weapon for the first time.

Consider that he decides to now try that scepter that’s been in his inv. for the last few days and bingo all 5 skills are unlocked because he’s already lvl 10.

I guess he’ll start having seizures or something from information overload.

One thing though, the harder/rarer to get/find parts of the collections were in big demand on the TP.

What if they implemented handicaps

I think handicaps could work if it was just a slight adjustment to PPT based on point differential. ie lower ranked servers getting massacred give fewer points for objectives taken and earn more points if they take higher ranked server’s objectives.

It’s hardly fair that a server with an overhwelming strength advantage earns the same 10 points for taking a tower from a weak server that the weak server earns for taking theirs. If a weak server manages to do it they deserve a better reward.

I’m not sure how much this adjustment should be eg 5% or10%? But it would help.

New blog is up – https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/traits-unleashed-forty-new-traits-and-more/

Engineers will be getting additional support and survivability with their new turret trait, Fortified Turrets, which is part of the Inventions line. Each time an engineer with Fortified Turrets equipped spawns a new turret, that turret receives a defensive bubble that reflects projectiles for four seconds. This works with all turrets, including the Supply Crate.

Hope they fix turrets first.

Don’t know how this stacks up against the others, Guardian’s one gives another 3000HP for example.

It’s not enough to simply know the language, you need to know the culture (and keep on top of pop-culture) as well in order to get the proper effect.

A Chinese language site discussing GW2 (and FFXIV) pricing model – http://game.163.com/special/xin/zyhxy_46.html

This is what Google came up with -

“Originally these two games have been a lot of attention on the industry and the players, although they charging system abroad is not “free game”, but considering the special circumstances and the case has been a lot of Chinese localization of the final Decision suddenly let insiders players excitedly spread the news, as if the long-term constipation excitement through the canal, the eunuchs of men must grow!"

From this -

“In order to deliver Chinese players fresh new content at the same time as western players, Guild Wars 2China will be synchronized with the western version in terms of game updates, operation scale, tech support, and customer service. Game content will largely remain the same in both versions, with the exception of some adjustments to the new-player tutorial that are designed for and requested by Chinese players. "

I assume it will be the same. It may also explain why they’re “taking a break” after the last LS update next week and then only having a feature update before more LS updates.

WvW why do I die so fast? is my build bad?

in Engineer

Posted by: jamesg.7128

jamesg.7128

It’s not a good build. You’ll be dying to conditions I expect, which don’t care about toughness, as you don’t have much condi removal.

Automated response doesn’t remove them, it only stops new ones after the threshold. Without adequate removal they’ll just keep melting you.

Flamethrower also isn’t a great choice for WvW, unless you’re in a zerg wanting to tag. Personally, while I used to run FT for fun and it’s great for attacking siege through gates, I now use grenades.

They take some getting used to because of the targetting but have a look at grenade builds. A lot of people also have success with condition builds of various types or power rifle.

Scaling Change Gone Too Far?

jamesg.7128

I know it was too easy before. I know it needed a tweak. I’m not saying put it back the way it was. But when a L80 in full exotics gets killed by two L67 imps there’s something wrong. I couldn’t even get them down to half health before being downed. I tried twice. With the zone empty and it being this hard to solo I’m going to have to give it a miss and do something/somewhere else.

Scaling Change Gone Too Far?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jamesg.7128

jamesg.7128

So they changed the formula for downscaling apparently. Has anyone found the increase in difficulty unusually tough? I took my L80 Engie back to Fireheart Rise to finish off the map and instead the mobs were finishing me. I couldn’t even get close to finishing some of the skill challenges and even small mobs were wiping me. I’ve never had that problem before and could usually solo this stuff.
