Mesmer dps generally sucks. I use a condi clone build that isnt the best at anything… besides murdering HUSK monsters…. I don’t die easily because of +Condi/toughness/+vit gear…
While Mesmer DPS isn’t the best, I wouldn’t say it sucks because I’m an eternal optimist that thinks that one day we could be on par with Eles and Thieves (insert comment about delusions of grandeur here… Get it? Delusions? lawlimfunny)
Condi builds are fun, and they’re amazing for killing the husks. The vet and champ ones are MUCH easier with condi builds. The normal ones go down for me pretty quickly with my zerker build, but I attribute that to my phantasms causing lots of bleeding.
Mesmer requires more skill and intuition than many other professions. You’re probably rusty in both of those departments, given that you took an 18 month break.
Also, you will get better, actionable advice if you list the traits/equipment for your build.
All that is probably true as well (especially the “if you list the traits/equipment” part).

Depending on what I’m up against, I use different weapons and traits. Since I play PvE and only do PvP for dailies, I think my set-up might be a good starting point (although other mesmers might be better; they’ll have to reply to give you their recommendations).
Typically I run most PvE content with Sword/Focus and Greatsword (I have an off-hand sword and a pistol in case I need them for specific situations in dungeons and fractals)
First question I ask is “Do I need a lot of reflect?”
If yes: 6/4/0/4/0
III, X, and XI
II and IV
II and VIII
If no: 6/6/0/0/2
III, X, and XI
II, IV, and XI
III
The two XI traits are for Mantras. My utilities are Signet of the Ether (Heal), Mantra of Resolve (condi cleanse), Mantra of Pain (recently got a small AoE radius, which is nice with multiple mobs), Feedback (I do Tequatl every night, so I just keep it slotted), and Time Warp (who doesn’t like a bit of chronomancy pre-HoT?)
Both builds are probably not the best out there, but the damage is good especially when you use SotE for its secondary effect and get three phantasms up (usually I get iBerserker and two iWardens out with that). The iWardens stack lots of lovely bleeding with Sharper Images which works with Phantasmal Fury (Dueling II).
Again, probably not the best builds, but they’re a nice jumping-off point, I think.
In a situation where you hit multiple foes with spatial surge, does the -2% CD proc multiple times?
If I recall correctly, they said in the livestream on Twitch that it would only proc on a single enemy. While I would thoroughly enjoy multiple procs, it would be REALLY powerful considering that Spacial Surge can hit up to three targets, which would add up to a possible 18% reduction from just the Mesmer and not including any GS clones. It would be even worse if Toeofdoom is right and it’s just a placeholder and it becomes 2 SECONDS per hit.
I’m actually experiencing Elementalist Staff bugs 1 and 2 with Burning Retreat as well (more bug 1 than 2). The rubber-banding causes the fire field left by the spell to be about half the length that it should be.
I also experience the same with Ride the Lightning (Air Dagger 4) in terms of the rubber-banding. It’s also causing me not to hit my target, according to the skill (as it goes on cooldown with the longer of the two cooldowns).
As far as bug 2 is concerned, I get the same with Burning Retreat, Ride the Lightning, Lightning Flash, and Blink (Mesmer utility). When this happens, I’m able to resume moving by stopping holding my W key (forward) and then pressing again*. This isn’t optimal for things like PvP, but it works out well enough for the issue in PvE where mob AI don’t exploit your inability to move.
It seems that even after all this time, these issues haven’t been fixed.
Hoping that these issues are being worked on and will be fixed in the future.
*I actually experienced the EXACT bug that was mentioned today. My quick fix doesn’t actually work for that bug. I did find out that using Burning Retreat again would break me out if it.
Edit: updating on some of the issues.

I thought maybe Engineer → Forgemaster or something like that. Mesmer I’m 90% sure is Chronomancer. No idea on Necro. Elementalist (with Longbow) → Arcane Archer or some such, or with Sword → Warmage/Battlemage. No idea for anything else, really…
Sounds more like Trahearne to me…
If we do, it’ll either come as a new focus, or it’ll be a skin we can get from somewhere.
Yeah, I did those steps with my necro just last night and noticed that the info for it even says “Board the airship to be transported to Cursed Shore” or something to that effect, so that can be disregarded. The other thing, though, is still pretty weird.
I looked for something similar to this and found nothing, so if it’s been mentioned and answered already, I apologize.
After the Sept. 9 patch, I’ve noticed a few instances that have their markers in strange places. For instance, my Lv. 72 Necromancer is currently doing the Lv. 60 chapter. The story step "The Priory Assailed" gives the information "Meet Trahearne at the Durmand Priory". However, the entry point to the instance is just south of Thunderhorns Waypoint whereas the instance itself begins with the player standing at the bottom of the eastern staircase leading up to the Priory itself.
I noticed this, too, while playing through the Lv. 70 chapter, I believe. A few of my friends and I were progressing together, and a couple of instances had entry points in Fort Trinity, but they teleported us all the way to places like Cursed Shore for the instance itself.
Anyone else notice these things? I’m linking two screenshots for "The Priory Assailed", and once I get to the story steps in the Lv. 70 chapter, I’ll post screenshots for those if this hasn’t been answered by then.
And thanks, ArenaNet, for the game! It’s definitely one of the best I’ve played!

So this is still happening. Awesome! I think I may actually have seen a few members of this guild online a few times before.
IGN: Damien Shadowweave
Server: Maguuma (guesting on Jade Quarry a lot as well)
Playstyle: PvE
Role: Scholar (maybe Teacher at some point? I’ve played Mesmer since GW2 closed beta and have learned a lot about the profession. Just now working on learning Faith’s condition build which I found a couple of weeks ago.)
Playtime: Depends on work schedule. 90% of the time I’m online after 5 pm EST.
