The cycle I’m asking about is the elder dragon cycle. So first what exactly is the cycle and how do you think Mordremoth fits into it?
The cycle is similar to hibernation. The dragon’s feed on magic, coincidentally destroying everything, then sleep releasing the stored magic into their environment. This seems to be the case for the first five dragons but I’m not convinced this is Mordremoth’s cycle. Mostly because he was feeding off the leylines and woke after gaining to much magic.
IMO the dragons are displaying adaptive characteristics in relation to natural selection. (Check out https://web.stanford.edu/group/stanfordbirds/text/essays/MacArthur%27s_Warblers.html if you’re unfamiliar with it.) This is demonstrated by the dragons feeding off of magic in different locations and waking at different times. By sleeping at a leyline Mordremoth doesn’t compete with the other dragon’s for magic, in their case food. They also stay in their relative territories they mark out with their corruption.
There isn’t any mention of Mordremoth, a sixth dragon, in the previous cycle. The two possibilities for this is either he didn’t wake up or he wasn’t noticed. So either he isn’t part of the cycle or he wakes last. It’s speculation but I think when the other five dragons go to sleep their excess magic leaks into the leyline and this influx of magic is what would normally wake Mordremoth up.
Whether he was not suppose to wake or he woke early the cycle was broken, or at least altered. But why? The likely response is Scarlett but she was a tool and not the motive. The death of Zhaitan has been brought up as a motive but so far Mordremoth doesn’t seem to be heading to Orr. He doesn’t need Orr for magic. He has a pretty sweet deal feeding off the leylines.
I think he woke because of Glint’s egg. This means it has to be some type of threat to him in resources/magic or proximity. I think the Pale Tree’s vision involves Glint’s egg and it being a part of Mordemoths plan. The Zephyrites are the most likely care takers and may have placed the egg at a leyline to feed it magic. This may be where the Master of Peace was heading after the crash.
Is there any npc dialogue discussing what happened to the waypoint? I don’t remember it being in pieces or contested last patch but I could be mistaken.
This sounds a lot like a Nigerian 419 scam.
Who was the girl that died that the priory guys were talking about missing?
I felt like Kasmeer when she ask “Mordremoth?” after Jory first said it. Like “where did you get that from?” To me it’s sloppy story telling. Last chapter they didn’t seem to acknowledge that this was the dragon and were focused on the crash. I thought it was a leap for Jory to say definitively that it was dragon corruption. I am happy that they kept the name Mordremoth though.I was hoping we would learn his name from some big reveal, like from a champion, lieutenant, or from the dragon itself.
I think her portals were her mobile waypoints.
I want to agree with you but I don’t think she uses those words synonymously. When talking about her steam creatures she uses the term portal and described it as stepping through the aether. This makes me think her portals are more similar to an asura gate than a waypoint
In scarlet’s house there is a crumpled piece of paper that says “Explore the idea of a mobile waypoint. Can travel happen at my whim?”
My first thought was this was a hint that she survived in some fashion at the end of S2. After my initial suspicion subsided I started to wonder why they would include this in her room. How would a mobile waypoint work different than the standard ones already in game? Was this a explanation for something thats happened or a story hint? She had the portals so maybe she didn’t even make a mobile waypoint.

With the change of crit damage to a stat do you think we will see a sigil that allows you to stack ferocity on kills similar to bloodlust and corruption?
The only issue I have with this is that the Guild Commendation vendor is on the airship. I could be wrong but I think its the only one. This forces players to either participate in the event to get a pass from a drop, may be odd but some people might not want to do this live event. If they don’t play the content their only option is to buy the pass from anet if they want to go to this vendor.
Would anyone else like it when they accessed their crafting station that the Artisan vendor opened at the same time? The only real annoyance I find is that the vendor’s dialog box opens behind the crafting station window. It’s not difficult to get them opened on your own (it only costs you time,) but I think it would make sense to have the two windows linked.
With the introduction of Taimi it seems a new destiny edge group is forming now that there are five npcs involved with the living story. With Marjory, Kasmeer, Rox, Braham, and now Taimi we have a nice collection of interesting heroes to help us. The only race not represented right now is the sylvari. Two questions pop to mind.
1. Do we need or want a sylvari in the group? I could take it or leave it. Personally I’m a little worn out following sylvari around and could do with a break from one. It does seem it is the developers intents to include all the races so one being added does seem likely.
2. Which of the two female humans is more likely to be replaced, Marjory or Kasmeer? I like both of the characters and wouldn’t like to see either go but if one had to die I feel Kasmeer’s death would have a better story effect. We are already sympathetic towards her and her death could add to Marjory’s character development.
Ronan found the Pale Tree’s seed among a “guarded cavern filled with mysterious seeds”, so it wasn’t the only one. I think the dream and the nightmare could involve that the dragon is still asleep and by keeping the dream peaceful the pale tree could be keeping it from waking or his purpose could be less violent than the other dragons. His job could be to heal the land after the other dragons destroy it.
Other than Ronan finding the seed among a bunch of others I don’t have much to go on besides my imagination. Thought I would share my theory anyways.
