Just generally asking a question. Why do some people have to be so unhappy?

Because I just saw a video of siege battle in Cyrodiil…actually looking like siege not a group hug at gates. And no fps issues either…

What is your FPS in LA during zerg fight?

Yea I noticed improvement too. From usual 5-6 fps which I get normaly at awesome zerg (11111) events, I am now enjoying amazing 7-9 fps. It seems that configuration has very little to do with it, since you only have few fps more than me with x4 stronger pc.

Oh well if they keep good work with optimizing game, perhaps in few years we will be able to reach skyhigh fps numbers like 16-20 fps!!!!

You still don’t see a point. People do it because desing flaws allows them to get rewards. If there were no rewards unless you participate in events during evacuation afkers would be gone.

Sure but its far easier to log in durring off-time and ban dozen of people than design event without such major reward system flaw.

I still think that people that did kicking were angry with players taking advantage of their own design, where they should have been angry at their co-workers that created such messy event. Its incredibly dull too.

Did you just say AFK-ing is a feature? rofl

Also beeing at any map is potentialy taking a place someone else wants. Those people bought game same as anyone else, they have right to be there and “play as they like”. Perhaps they just like to stand and admire beauty of their charachters in LA suroundings.
And if designers created event that will reward them just for standing there, well thats a bonus.

Wrong. I have gotten bronze medals for various events just by running thru. No minimum effort, they were simply on my way.

Secondly. Why is it even possible to do nothing and gain reward. That is flaw of heir reward system and its purely problem of their design. It is also their own fault for training players to expect equal rewards for doing next to nothing in 90% of content. World bosses anyone?

The issue at hand here is though, that this is exactly what they are doing. They’re kicking and banning people for literal kittens and giggles and no other logical reason (definitely not any breach of EULA,) and so anet needs to be reprimanded for this. Perhaps not legally, but in terms of reputation etc.

Actually, as I’ve stated, AFKing the LA event can be seen as “exploit”, since you gain rewards without doing anything. If you don’t move for a long period of time, a GM kicks you from the map. If you repeat this behavior over and over, that led to a 72 hour suspension. These actions protect the economy of the game, and help to prevent unintended game play with in-place mechanics.

Anet should be applauded for their efforts in doing what’s best for this game.

By that logic any event in game can be seen as exploit since you gain rewards without doing anything. Scarlet evasion event? Yep. Did they show up to kick afk-ers then? No?

Do they show up on every Claw of Jormag event to kick afk-ers that tag dragon and sit at tents for 20 mins? No?

Also, if person loged back in after kick it means he’s not afk does it? He’s there obviously. Perhaps said player just wants to enjoy panorama of burning city, are you saying that its not allowed? Is new Anet policy: “You will play to the music or kick”?

Again, the debate is over. Anet GMs did what they felt was necessary to protect the other players on the map. I fully support their decision.

Did they do same for every server, every map and overflow on EU and NA? Of course not, it would require army of devs. Maybe instead of praticing selective justice they should implement rewards system that won’t allow this kind of problems.

Making boring events with reward system full of holes is their stew, they should eat it way they made it. Saying: “We created this way it is, gladly took your money and now we will kitten you any way we like for using it way we created it” is really bad pratice…

So ask yourselves this: “If I can get a reward worth hundreds of Gold for standing around for 45 minutes, is that what Anet intended for the event?” Debate that topic, rather than trying to counter me.

Yes I can. And yes that is what they intended. If it wassn’t their intention then why is it possible? Its not a small oversight. If it was an oversight, well, there was 3 patches since this release they could have fixed that.

Wait, it same system like in rest of game you say? Then it surely is intended or it would be changed durring year and half of games existence.

Besides, having dev friends makes you biased and your arguments have no credibility. But you must feel really important in gw2 universe, good for you…

Typical. everyone’s pointing fingers but not looking at the facts or providing viable evidence. Telling people it happened isn’t evidence that you can go by. Start throwing down proof on the table then will talk.

Since when is going afk punishable? If they really think that getting the reward without doing anything is an exploit, then they should’ve just changed the mechanics already instead of suspending accounts based on on-the-spot made-up, highly questionable rules without informing people about the change of terms.

It is simply case of staff abusing authority and acting like a sheriff.

They should focus on creating engaging content and reward systems based on personal contribution, not content that people wants to idle for bags.

We’ve been told repeatedly by Gaile and other ANet developers here on the forums that developers have absolutely no special powers in-game, and yet apparently people have been kicked for an assortment of things by developers. This happened during wurm attempts, and is now happening in LA. I don’t really mind if it’s true, but what bothers me is the lack of transparency and the lying that goes with it. If you can do these things, ANet, then tell us you can (and do) do these things, don’t tell us you don’t have powers and then go back on it. If these reports are false, though, then quell the rumors by saying so; inaction here only makes it worse. Either way, I really just want to know what the truth of the matter is.

Thanks.

I remember running into Qt Spy, a anet employee. They were kicking afkers in the event so people who actually wanted to play could…..

Those look like desperate half-measures. Like those 10-20 spots will mean anything…and what for are overflows if not so people who wants to play can no matter how crowded main server is.

If they think that kicking few idlers will make experience more enjoyable thats because they are playing on their NASA supercomputers thus haven’t seen 6 fps slideshow that large % of players have at this zerg events. I couldn’t care less about 30 afk players in corner, but 9 fps that is constant for me on average gaming rig is hindering my experience alot.

Sounds like you’re blaming them for what exactly? You can’t get a new computer that meets requirements so all must suffer? I don’t wanna hear why you can’t get a new one, some people can’t, I know. They kicked those who were farming the event and hindering progress for others. Plain and simple. No biggie. Sorry you can’t enjoy the event. I used to be in your spot.

Taken out of context.

Where did I say can’t buy new rig? Im pretty sure i never said I blame them for having pc I have.
I read dev post in which they said afk-ers are degrading experience of others, so I say if they are so considerate about players experience why don’t they add bloody option to turn off particle effects which are sufficating hardware so much, which is really ruining experience of many players.

p.s. I actually upgraded gfx card and ram prior to gw2 release but who could guess game will be so poorly optimized…not that it matters for topic

So if I i.e. need 15 mins to unload, and in meantime ANet employee comes and kick me out of LA, making me lose instance I was in and rewards alongside, that is according to you moraly justified?

Life happens. Maybe you had to deal with something more important than an in-game event.

In which case, you shouldn’t care if you were simply kicked out of LA as opposed to banned or suspended.

Unless you make it a habit to consistently AFK the majority of a major event that you have to choose to show up to, you don’t need to worry about it if the worst you’ve done is taken an extended bathroom break.

Much ado about nothing.

You sir, are replacing the thesis.

If somebody had to go to wc, im sure they would still care about event in game they were doing prior to it.

Common sense. Practice it. When did getting soft-kicked from a video game event constitute a moral dilemma? Come on now.

It should constitute moral dilemma for Anet employee doing the kicking. Since they were acting on behalf of company, it means that company thinks its alright to kick people from their fabulous living story event, just because they can.

Why dont they show up on every Jormag event to kick afk-ers there?

Because those LA afk-ers bothered that employee personally and he used his position privileges to kick them.

kRiza krimos.1637

Absolutely not.

A.) We have swiftness. Not only that, but we have incredibly readily accessible swiftness.
B.) Going along with swiftness, we have maps that are “small”, meaning we can get from point A to point B without waypoints in less than 5 minutes. A second if you use a waypoint. Mounts are necessary for games like WoW where there are no waypoints, so you HAVE to walk.
C.) Towns being cluttered with MORE things just sounds terrible, both aesthetically as well as technologically.
D.) We have tonics already that can do anything you want via minigames already. Think of beetleracing in GW1. Why would we ever need to actually ride an animal to race? It is conceptually a waste of time.

I do not see the point of it.

Because transforming into a hoverboard with no rider would be ridiculous? Not every mount has to be an animal.

You don’t need high end computers though. Just out the game settings at their lowest and you should be fine. This applies to the majority of players. However, the ones attempting to play the game by playing on a system that barely meets the requirements will still have issues.

Yeah, I kind of like the game to look good so I’m not gonna do that. That’s just a useless answer.

Imagine if you went to your garage because your car is making a strange noise when going over 50 km/h, and they told you to just drive slower than that, it wouldn’t satisfy you either now would it?

Wrong analogy. It’s not that the computers are having hardware issues, it’s that they’re subpar. Also, just because you want the game to look good doesn’t mean that my answer is just “useless”.

Its not about subpar rigs. It doesn’t matter if you load in 20sec or 11sec if you can die in 6 sec…

Its not issue of optimization for better performance and experience. Problem is possibility of this happening, which exists and happends quite often. Possibility to die before loading screen shouldn’t exist, simple as that.

This is not hardver issue but design one.

One design flaw of marionette that can be event breaking is loading screen between phases. Many people dont have high-end rigs and loading screen can last long, which results in them dying before they even load screen.

This should be avoided in any future events of this sort since beside annoyance it can lead to whole event failing and players have no power to influence outcome of situation.

Yes, “just the right scale”, which is why unless you’re in TTS or you hang out in a big server’s LP main all day, you fail the event 90% of the time.

Nothing wrong with failing. It makes winning actually means something. When was last time you felt good about defeating Svanir Shaman at Maw?

RE: The Tequatl-ization of all new content

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: kRiza krimos.1637

kRiza krimos.1637

If that’s true then that’s how it should be. If nobody actually WANT to do Arah, if they only do it currently because they want Arah armor, then they shouldn’t have to do Arah. The content should justify itself, people should want to do it because it’s how they most have fun. Players shouldn’t need to be “bribed” into doing content they don’t enjoy, and cases where that is what’s happening are cases where ANet has dropped the ball on designing the content.

People will never want same things. Some of them will want to master soloing arah so they could sell runs. Others will want to buy spot just to collect chest and tokens, other guy will buy it because he want dungeon master title but dont want to play it or can’t find party. Some people will run it because they enjoy it…
But point im trying to bring across to you is that anything arah should be obtainable in arah. Logic dictates that.

People do what they most enjoy. Let them.

By all means. But if I enjoy gathering I shouldn’t be expecting arah armor piece. Different rewards for different activities, whats so hard to understand about that? Afterall, variety is spice of life.

On my server Teq is a ghost town. I’ve heard rumors that it’s sometimes beaten at server reset, but I can’t play then, and any other time I’ve been there I’ve been one of 2-3 people wandering around and then we leave. I haven’t bothered in months. Prior to the tech patch, the zone hit overflow status several times a night.

Prior to patch, do you think people did tequatl because it was fun or because it was easy chest and as such fitted into world boss farming tour?

By that logic arah armor and weapons skins should drop from every dungeon and event?

Sure, why not?

Because then everybody would do “Kill the mosqitos” event in caledon forest and farm arah skins quick and with little effort while you could hear sounds of wind in arah…In one word it would kill players motivation to do various content for different rewards.

Ah, so people don’t do Arah because of challenge, but only for the rewards. Perhaps it’s the same with Teq and Wurm? And if so, perhaps the challenge is completely unnecessary, since (by your own words) noone is really doing those events for that?

Different challenges for different rewards. Various levels of challenges for various rewards in sense of prestige and value.

If there would be option to gain same rewards for different levels of challenge people would simply go with line of least resistance and do easiest thing. Its the nature of beast.

Well, that’s the point, right? By this reasoning, the challenge itself doesn’t really matter. If people were interested in it, they would challenge themselves without the need for specific, restricted rewards – pride of doing difficult content would have been enough for them.

Yes i remember days when challenge was main part of fun, and games were played for different reasons. But those were days when internet and mmo-s didn’t existed. This is different time and different values are beeing promoted in games.

In regards to wurm, i personally think that there are currently people that took up on challenge and are trying to overcome it. Unlike those faint-hearthed that went to event, failed once and went to forums to complain in all their self righteousness.

But in time wurm will be on farm status like teq is on many servers.
Problem comes from those that are not willing to try harder and earn those better rewards but can’t stand someone else getting better rewards than they are…

If it’s the challenge that matters, theres no reason for better rewards. And if it’s not about the challenge, then those events themselves are not needed.

What you are saying goes againt basic principles of human nature. Caveman didn’t go out to kill mamooth just to prove he’s up to challenge, he did it for more meat. Bigger beast, bigger challenge, more meat – translate it to a video game and still same rule apply naturally.
Why is first place in any sport competition rewarded with most valuable metal on Earth? Even in sports where its all about overcoming challenge reward is important. Would it be cool if silver and bronze medalists start saying they want gold medals too because guy in 1st place should be competing for challange sake and not for best reward…

There should be elite areas in open world. Like mini dungeons we already have, but with more difficulity, harder mobs, some tasks that require players to be in more places in same time for task to be completed, and problems that demand cooperation in general. And of course, nasty boss at end with sweet stash he’s not willing to part with.

RE: The Tequatl-ization of all new content

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: kRiza krimos.1637

Nobody minds having elitists around, they generally are quite helpful at doing the new content. As a more casual player, all I expect is two things moving forward, 1. that more casual content keeps getting added as well as more difficult stuff (none was added in this patch), and 2. that the rewards for the difficult stuff is not anything that couldn’t be earned elsewhere, so that players who don’t care about the content don’t feel encouraged to run it regardless for the loot.

By that logic arah armor and weapons skins should drop from every dungeon and event?

Since arah is somewhat difficult, thus those skins should be obtainable at other places too, right? Wurm and Teq offer nothing that can’t be obtained elsewhere but unique skins. Every dungeon does same thing with unique skins so your point is moot.

Crafting needs a nerf seriously.
Access to gear should not require crafting.
Access to gear should certainly not require everyone crafts their own.
Gear drops from events should be the best in the game, not crafted.

Crafted gear is supposed to be about speed and ease not access and power. Exceptions typically are tied to consumables and things you want stacks of (which is more of a ease and speed issue anyway).

There needs to be a major nerf to crafting.

Feel free to apply those rules when you create your game. Since this is not your game you harldy have any credibility to say what should and should not be.

And you feel everyone should grind events and pray to RNG Gods to get their armors?

Crafting is too OP needs nerf…rofl

Well, this is the second Living Story update that has featured raid-style open world content designed as end game goals for large guilds out of like…20 Living Story updates in total which all included casual solo/5-man content, story instances and fetch quests so…I think it’s safe to say there will be more content catered to you in the future…
9/10 patches, presumably.

And yet Wurm and Teq are the only content that drops special ascended gear and stuff. This isn’t content that players should cheerfully say “well, it’s not for me.” If they removed the reward chests then I suppose I could live with them though.

Also I decide what I want or need thanks very much.

/second. Don’t try to tell me what armor I don’t need. If it’s there, I need it.

You are in your right to decide what you want, but what you need is a different matter.

It’s a game, what I want is what I need, there is no distinction.

There was a quote recently that specifically stated that this update ( wurm ) was a nod to people who enjoy harder content and do not mind failing until they succeed.

Yes, and these people should get nothing. Willy Wonka style. Not to be mean, but there are plenty of games that reward that type of gameplay, GW2 should not be one of those games. GW2 should continue offering the best rewards to the people who like GW2 for what it is, not for those that want to import raid-style content from other games.

Wurm and Teq are only encounters in game that are even close to level of dififculty that justify rewarding bis gear that is somewhat special and different.

Would you live with Maw and orr temples if they removed reward chests? They should, just because spoiled no-brain farmers go to press 1 and claim rewards. Oh wait someone is enjoying those events? Good, they will enjoy it just as same without rewards.

Also, I think ppl like you should get nothing for playing game modes that ppl like you enjoy. Willy Wonka style. See my point?

People should get best rewards for most demanding content, that is nature of rewards. Do you get biggest salary as janitor, even if you are person that most likes working in school?

Attitudes like yours are whats wrong with world today sadly, and I also suspect that someone has some growing up to do…

I’m surprised no ones talked about the red arrows coming from each corner of the map. Has no one yet noticed that they are coming from the direction in which four elder dragons are inhabiting?

Top left – Mordremoth.
Top right – Jormag.
Bottom left – DSD.
Bottom right – Kralkatorrik.

I really don’t think Scarlet’s evil. I think she’s just insanely genius. Her study of the ley lines (presumably through the energy probes) has allowed her to gain knowledge of the dragons’ where about. She knows big stuff is about to happen. However, she knows that the threat below us is the most dangerous at the moment.

She’s seen what uniting forces can do, through the pact taking down Zhaitan, and she’s trying to do this on a grander scale now herself. Don’t you guys see? When see sends this massive drill in the ground, she’s going to have every alliance present. Including the pact, molten alliance, toxic alliance, and aetherblades, as well as her own little gizmos. That’s one massive force ready to fight a dragon who’s off guard.

And where does cooking Faren, kidnaping queen and bombing attack at DR fit in her grand scheme of fighting dragon?

Also, she made alliances of worst scum of Tyria, which would btw, fall apart on first mention of dragon let alone fighting one. Well all exept dredge, they are crazy man!

spot on

been doing this to level alts while watching a movie, large/multiple monitor helps

So why bother “playing” the game if you have no interesst in playing it?

Most of the players have played the lore already with multiple characters but they still want to level characters for WvW for instance. You have a several option for this:

1. Do the quests, story missions, hearts 20th time again. (longest way with minimal income)

2. Craft the toon to lvl 80 that would cost you now way over 100G (shortest but most expensive way)

3. Do Queensdale champ farm while watching TV (medium long with large income while u receive kittenloads of extra skillpoint and karma and AP)

So i.e. someone is running circles to lvl up char that he will then use to play wvw with it, right? Thats a really logical solution especially since you can lvl your alts in wvw. But why would anyone do lvling in content he plans to play with that char is beyond me…

Let me change weapons ... WHERE DID IT GO!?

There is a solution its called equipment box. It still requires little management but its far less painful than searching your inventory for item. And if you have to find it quick there is a search function for inventory.

I agree. Makes no sense that 2h has more dmg, and for a half price of dual weapon setup.

Colossus – 4 random exotics
Storm – 7 random exotics
Zap – got it with 4 rare swords, second try after 4 random shields

Got them all while doing mystic forge daily. They have been sitting in storage for months until I recently decided to make juggernaut so i sold others to finance it.

I never actively pursued precursor.

Tailors could make banners. Banners that actually look like banners not lottery tickets straped to back.

Alas, all that requires work to be made, and since its mostly for cosmetical purpouses I sincerely doubt they would give it for free. For free you can get crappy wings that makes no sense beeing on characthers…

I assume you are one of those who are using full berserker gear?

Bunker type gear stats need balance.

Bitterness is strong in this one. So much it clouds ones judgement.

Why change berserker stat, they should change so we all are rangers instead.

Why does this kind of threads always gets started by people who aren’t capable of seeing big picture, lack informations to base their opinions, and only thinks in subjective way from perspective of individual player?

Because those who can see the big picture, have the information and can look at the issue from other perspectives understand why things happen the way they do. We don’t need to start threads about it.

For example, I know why someone reskinned the T3 cultural armor for use in the gem shop a while back, I understand how it got past management and into the game, and I know why they had to remove it when players complained. More than one employee was surely disciplined for that, and some may have lost their jobs because of it. But I don’t feel the need to argue about the situation in the forums because I understand what happened.

So you don’t understand why there was need to work on critical dmg issue that was most powerful stat in game to extent that it trivialized half of game modes?

Oh wait, you answered my question. It was rethorical question tho.

So I have 7 toons parked at a jp, i got 15 doubloons in the first 4 days. That was a week and a half ago… i haven’t seen a single one in 9 days now out of any of my toons. Is my luck really that bad or do i need to re run the jp every so often? Anything i’m missing?

I created around 4 alts using lvl20 scrolls ( i got one slot free so im recycling ), and every one of them gotten 2-3 SD on first chest openings and then nothing in later weeks. Coincidence?
