why not a staff? it would be called technomage or technomancer. he would use the power of its magic crystal with the steampunk engineering to create new spells and living creation. it would be the azura way of engineering. a mix of range and melee style like the rifle.

one of the weapon spell could be a temporary invoked azura style turret that fire lots of little projectiles quickly then explode after it finish firing.

lets see:
the auto would be melee with a boon converter at the 3rd auto. (or some condi on the 3rd hit)

the 2 could be some magic light burst or thunder burst (a little 3 hit charging thing)
that blind on 1rst or 3rd hit and apply weakness and burning on each hit.(or whatever condi)

the 3 a sort of temporary surfing ability to get close or escape a target with an explosion at the end that would pull in aoe toward the engi.(the surfing leave a little electric floor that give move speed to ally and does little damage to foes + poison)(combo explosion)(maybe buff ally with 3 second of quickness upon explosion).(while moving a little aura surround the engi to do some damage with an aoe wider than the aoe he leave behind)(upon activation the surfing grant 1 sec or 2 sec of super speed to the engi and an little dodge frame at the begining)(upon explosion apply torment to foes)

the 4 the little turret spell. (that would be good and original and you could block for the time the turret is firing or use the turret to block some projectile).(good direct damage, apply some bleeding for condi users)(it can put an temporary aura to buff ally with protection or whatever boon.. egide?)(the turret will focus the ennemy you targeted when using the spell until it dies 5 seconds after or so)(its projectiles can pierce threw)

the 5 would be a 2 stats spell. upon activation you slam the staff on the ground bumping and damaging foes(either a big bump or a static bump like the ranger spike trap), granting stab to ally. you need to wait for like 1 sec or 2 sec for the second spell to charge (you can still move and do something else why waiting for it).when ready you can fire a powerfull thunder/light/beam that does aoe damage but in a line like the revenant 2 hammer but instanty after a brief charge instead of moving toward the target. good direct damage, grant ally in aoe (but not yourself this time) immune to blind for a short time and add vulnerability, confusion, torment, burning.
after the staff is charged you have 6 second to fire the beam. while charged each staff spell apply vulnerability on each hit except for the turret. it will have quickness instead to fire more quickly or all its shot will deal extra damage and extra bleed.

i guess it still need some work and maybe some changes but that seems to be epic and original.

for someone who roam all over the place and duel in WvW i can say after testing condi and power necro with multiple build you will loose 1v1 against good war, revenant, thief, guard. then in a group fight, unless you have an elem with you, you will be focused first and immobilized, then killed, because you have only your life bar to protect you. you are slow, very little stab for a class that survive being a punching bag, and a long cast time on nearly all skills. while every other class have something to tempo, necro has not. unless under heavy healing if a necro is focused in a group fight he will fall.

Remove canons already?

i had to put something here…

before they implemented canons i was against it because i feared it woulld kill roaming with canons spam every where.

finally it wasn’t and was just used to kill bus. it doesn’t replace other siege weapons maybe except balista. it isn’t op because of the line of sight. (balista should have more hp and damage than canonc tho.)

it maybe still need updates but its a nice addition to the game.

WvW need to evolve, WvW need new content. canons is maybe the first path to this evolution (with the new tic system).

i don’t understand those who wants it to be removed.
it is like being against new content because you want to play WvW the same way till the end. what do you dislike about them? in each post the ones with few lines with no arguments are the one who are against canons.
you are just asking it to be removed for what reason? explaination please.

KeyOrion. i guess anet wanted to add some new siege weapon without spending too much time on it so they used an existing siege wepaon and turned it into a blueprint.

i am not speaking about adding npc but giving orders to the one currently ingame at camps.

glider was planned on the new desert borderlands map but didnt make it to release.
if there were glider, obvioulsy there will be invisible walls to prevent going in towers.

traps are not that used because there is not alot of use of them. more traps type and a detector would provide more strategy

moving or stealable weaponery would be a nice feature to add to the current WvW.
new content for a new meta without changing WvW overall is always a good thing after 4 years.

what i see as nice new WvW content:

_debuff for too big bus.
_glider.
_an order systeme for creatures in camps so they can go target something else than just the nearest camp.
_moving or stealable siege weaponery.
_a trap detector with new traps like bumping ones or debuff ones.
_airship battles with landing for the winners onto some fortress or distant point. (i can dream)
_tweak on aoe and most spells for them to touch more than 5 people. (its good to dream)

i play gw2 for fun. i enjoyed gw2 so far becasue you could play as you like.
the build you like and its gameplay with the class you like. you could do the dungeon you like, farming the way you like (before HOT 5 major ways of earning gold via farming). the pvp you like (spvp or WvW) the pve you like (events, living events, dungeons, fractals, world boss, tquatl,…), the skin you like, the minipet you like, the juping puzzle you like(as there is alot of them and they are very different.) etc…
with HOT you can’t have the gear you like becasue some of them are behind a huge grind fest in hot maps to acquire them. you can’t have the guild hall you like because of the huge grind wall behind scribe (it cost too much to have just one chair ;-;). tou can’t pvp how you like because the meta is overpowered leaving none hot character or none meta builds weak. you can’t roam/play with a small groupe in wvw becasue everything encourage server mono blob (more than before). you can’t even do the massive event you like on HOT maps because of event crash.(events you will farm becasue its the only thing to do when you finished the maps which kills the actuall event and leave a bad taste)(last time i wanted to do the morremoth meta event we successfully reached the final door, the timer went on. at the end of the timer the event just stopped…). the nerf on the dungeons prevent us from doing them. (we already know them. but why would we run them if collecting mindlessly chests in a desert is far far more profitable…? whats the point of doing raids (okay the first times you do it for fun or for the challenge) if its only to grind some legendary armor?). why so much grind to get the new items from gw2 events? (bat shoulders, etc…).

another problem is the lack of content. i want to have fun but all the new things are just broken or behind a grind wall.
tho +1 for being able to glide in tyria thats a very cool addition. why not gliding in WvW too? even if its only in the eotm. its a waiting queue/farming map anyway.
why can’t we have fun with a structured gvg? 1v1 arena? 3v3? 20v20 with a little piece of WvW map? mobs fighting event? some pvp (in the way you like) in pve maps? (plus1 for the hunger game gamemod). roleplay content?(sitting on chairs or special tonics to do spécial animations or create useless items for rp.( like an endless crate maker) (the dancing tome was a great idea but was really too poor in dance animations content(why not giving us the dance animations from gw1?)) plus1 to the ingame instruments). why not some specific pvp event like two airships raiding each other with each team on each airships? why not some special event where some players are the pve other players need to beat?( let me dream ;-; ) some special mobs to hunt in the whole pve, hard to find and always escaping players? (plus1 to all the event you have already created that are not available anymore, aka SAB, knightmare tower, scarlet dungeons, etc…) better world boss? (i know you reworked the shattererand the shadow behemoth but i dream that one day the fire elemental will come back to what it was.). reactive pve fight were the mob could enter a state of rage where all his actions and animation would be faster with little to no dead time between its skills to feel you are actually fighting a monster as reactive as a player. (aka TERA).

i’ll always remember the answer from anet to a guy wanting duels in the pve world.
roughly speaking the answer was that gw2 is a game for teamplay and good social interaction where duels would lead only into competitivity and rivalry. maybe that was anet’s spirit back then. it really changed.

lets be clear,

gw2 is for me the best mmo/rpg i have played. i haven’t enjoyed starting playing others mmo/rpg like i did when i started gw2.
the art is wonderfull, the maps are all great, well designed and feels very differents.
quests system and living event is a very good idea and was very well implemented (i am not talking about HOT here).
the combat system is one of my favourite (my favourite being tera’s one). the class and builds diversity is very nice, maked me theory craft for hours because you could do so many different things with only one class. pvp was simple but fun back in time, we were happy with what we had. WvW was very alive + obsidian sanctuary giving me hours of fun gameplay when buses fought over the jumping.
the living story was amazing + the events of the living story like the nightmare tower, super adventure box, all about scarlet etc…
the fact you can choose how to start your principale quests was very appealing forcing me to create lots of character to test them out. i had a wonderful time on gw2.
i could go on with lots of other pros but today there is so many cons that kill the game for us, old players. (i have nearly 3 years of playing).

whats wrong with gw2?
well first anet has a communication problem, they seem to not listen properly to the community.
WvW became lame and boring because of the lack of new things and of the HOT downgrade. pvp became even worst with the new op classes and tank meta.
anet, instead of balancing the game little by little they just do nothing until their big patch. balacing every 3 months when you try to make a competitive game (e-sport duh) is rubbish. their new pvp game, stronghold, is lame and boring (i wont go in the details here but feel free to ask). the new pve was refreshing… for 1 to 2 months. then it became boring and repetitive. mordremoth gave us a better fight than zaitan but was still disappointing and boring. (the best story/bosses to fight was in the season2 of the living story. it gave me hope for the HOT story. i was really disappointed).
anet waited to launch HOT to resolve some issues on some class skills that were there since launch… dungeon history mod is very well done, dungeons are nice overall… they killed dungeons with HOT. i don’t mind farming dungeons, but i mind opening chests mindlessly in a desert. they took their time to get rid of some problems in dungeons that let people rush bosses like their were a moa. the comunity loved the dungeons, they asked for more difficulty, and better reward. anet maked dungeons easier and divided by 3 the gold you earn without any up in loot or special reward.
people wanted less blob fight in WvW and more groupe fights all over the place. stab change and HOT favourised blob fights. WvW still got kittenty rewards, only WvW is affected by server changing. (if you pve or spvp you don’t care on what server you are).
NO GVG. guild wars cough cough…
super adventure box not coming back (i know they had a problem with it so they couldn’t release it again but hey, how long has it been since the last time we had an event like this?) raid rewards are for a legendary armor… who cares. i ll be glad to try hard to get a special reward… but for only legendary armor i ll just not waste my time and energy to try to beat the raid. (tho the raid are very good!!)
loot in fractals are a joke. i dreamed one day i could drop the fractal endless tonic… sure come back in 10 years. tonics are a very nice addition. some use them for wandering around while others for some RP. so far, no special tonics or special furnitures giving us the opportunity to sit on chairs. no duels (at least im ok with it. but we needed to wait for HOT to be able to fight who you wanted with your pve/wvw gear). guilds hall upgrades are a joke. its a ressource sinkhole. only big active guilds can have the opportunity to get op WvW stuff (banners, airstrike, etc…) and customize nicely their hall. huge grind wall for too little. (the guilds hall are nice tho).
they did a wonderfull wvw map (edge of the mist) and didn’t added it to the actuall wvw competition. instead they gave us a wonderfull and epic new desert bordeland where no one want to play because its too big.
there is less and less events in gw2.
in HOT they added the enrage state to mobs… which only give more damage to the mobs. where in tera it not only give more damage while recieving more, it speed up the mobs animations and reactivity letting no dead time between each skills which felt like you were actually fighting mobs controlled by players.

i think you get why people are disappointed.
they could have done so much with this game. (ex: being able to fight other playes in the pve maps would be awesome like in the beta events. instead they gave us only a hunger game gamemod (which is nice but too much restrictive)).
giving us gliding in wvw for exemple? creating player mobs fight? creating an airship fight between 2 airships in eotm?(with players on them obviously). making an event where you need to find and chase a particular shy mob in some pve map where the mob will always escape until you kill/capture it? (an event where players can transform into mobs to fight other players none transformed? XD lets dream).
some 20v20 game mod with a little part of a WvW map for a special game mod?
better world boss (anet is currently working on them, the shatterer being the new reworked world boss)(just wtf why anet did nerf the fire elemental? it was so much fun before, now its plain trash). (tho tquatl and jungle wurm are nice, bosses to do. its sad there is no so good reward unless you are very lucky).
why do anet not give a test phase to their spvp where they rebalance everything every days, week for one or two months accordingly to what the playerbase tested?
why don’t they change the tic system in wvw to defavourise mono blob?
why isn’t there a 1v1 or special 3v3 in spvp (go and take a look at blade n soul 3v3 or other mmo/rpg.)
they might had all those ideas before but didn’t implemented them becasue of server issues, bugs, budget pb or it didn’t got approved. (if its the case that sucks).
then i know its not a monthly subscription. you just by the game and play. id say gw2 is worth the price given the amount of time i have spent on it but sadly i feel like gw2 is getting worse with time to the point where HOT killed a bit the game. (tho HOT was necessary but they didn’t do it right .)

thats how i feel about the game right now.

every one forgot the bug on the f3 that makes the DH bloc not only range attacks but also AOE AND MELEE ATTACKS. (and sometimes you can hit him… lol).

A possible solution for WvW. (and ideas)

first i wanna apologize for the long post

ok lets get started.
1/i’ll speak first about whats good and whats bad in WvW since hot.
2/then i’ll speak about my main solution to the problem.
3/finally i’ll give you guys some ideas about possible WvW new content or WvW enhancement.

what WvW player globally wants:
WvW players want a battleground castle fight in a persistent world where no monoblob run around destroying everything mindlessly. they want more fights over capping and less travel time to get to those fights or into action. some of them wants better reward for playing WvW.
some of them wants stab balancing to counter the actuall control fest meta.
somzof them are complaining about the price of some siege weapons (this might already been resolved)
no more player rally bot (or at least very reduced one). rally bot is kitten that will make one bus dominate the other one in a rather stupid way.
people wants PPK.
and finally people wants some fix about the algorithme which choose which server fight against one another.


1/ since HOT there was some little WvW improvement like the invincible dolyacks when a player is escorting it.
the new ui squad that gives a better visibility to commanders and thier squad.
the increased amount of health for walls and doors are discutable but feels okay in a game where 5 people rushing a door like nothing looks stupid.
the auto upgrade is kinda stupid. there is no more implication in the upgrade of a tower so now no one will really care about it because they know it will upgrade alone. this goes also with camps but are at least less ennoying.
the lootbag per ennemy killed is not 100% anymore. at least make the loot more valuable if there is less bag to loot.
the reset is not on friday anymore but on satursday. i have heard that it is because of some early weekend rush in WvW that gives some server a significant advantage before the new week starts or because it is a better time for anets uploading patches . my thought about this is that friday night is the day when people will come to play because of the incoming weekend. they are the days when most people are playing so cutting that play time with some useless just before reset timeplay will just kill a complete day of competitive WvW where there is the most players in the week.


2/now on to the main idea.
people are complaining about monoblob rulling over everything else, about little populated server not being able to face more populated ones and about the lack of strategy and changes in WvW after 3 years.
here is my solution : make structures capped while a tic is on the way uncappable until the next tic begins. (not applicable to camps. with maybe some special rules fort stone mist).
a monoblob is trying to cap your portion of the map? split your bus in 3 groups to cap their structures. if the blob stay pack they will cap less than the multiple groups as the blob would have to wait for the end of the tic to capture back their structures giving the smart server more points for the tic than for the monoblob.
this will encourage people to organize WvW in multiple groups with multiple functions to efficiently cap ennemy towers while defending their own. this will put a better castle fight feel than the actuall defenceless meta. (why defend if we can recap before the tic?).
defending a tower will never be more usefull. scoots will have a very important role (more than now). idealy this would spread fight all over the place.
about tniy servers this would give them the opportunity to make sure points against the monoblob servers who cap anything before them sometimes not letting them earning one points for some tics (well except for camps i guess).
i really like to know what you think about it.
i know there is players who will just want the old system back and nothing else (before HOT) but after 3 years of WvW i feel like this game mode need to evolve (and i wish for the best ^^).


3/here i’ll list few ideas i have to add new content/fun and maybe population balance to WvW.
first of all i find the edge of the mist a wonderfull WvW map. big but little enough to provide quick back to action time. lots of strategy and paths to sneak and attack towers. its a beautifull map too ^^. i feel like this map should be used in the standard WvW competition.
(AND WITH GLIDERS PLS. just make an inpenetrable bubble (or cylinder) around structures for ennemies (like aion did for exemple) when they are getting near them while using a glider if you fear that some people might find a way to fly over walls. or maybe the map is so well made that none upgraded gliders cannot pass over ennemies structure.)
(maybe use only the first glider upgrade for preventing people to fly to much around for too long).
about the population problem it is very tricky because NA servers might be full on all WvW maps at some time of the day while in EU this is not happening anymore (or maybe im wrong).

the most simple way to deal with it is to reduce the amount of borderland maps to one.(then map attribution can be like for ethernal battleground or ir can be attribued like some kind of reward after the first day(days?)of WvW fight on the ethernal battleground map).
(i know this system might have draw backs like getting the north is maybe not that great in comparaison to the souths starts.)
or we can put one of each bordeland maps (currently desert and mountains).

if that idea is not attractive we could jsu replace the 2 actual desert bordelands maps by the mountain one and the edge of the mist.
(but that will not have a real impact on server population, just on the fun and playable content).

some people asked for some lower population cap servers… but 10v30 will remain 10v30.
(i’m pretty sure anet will not transform a part of its WvW into some kind of big Stronghold like there is in other mmo/rpg so i will not mention this part).


the best way in gathering players and filling servers are to create a more apealing and interresting WvW. something which gives people objectives and the feel that their efforts will have an impact on the server while having fun. having better reward will contribute to it too but not alone or WvW will become some kind of mindless farm like is the actuall edge of the mist.

ps: about the desert bordeland map, this map is beautifull but indeed too big with maybe too big structures to cap/defend. but i must say, when you do find some bus in front of yours the plays, battles and tactics are way better than with the old brodeland map.
from barely nothing but a basic and good old bordeland they gave us too much everywhere which feels like anet putted all their ideas in one big map which is maybe too much.

pps: we can always dream. and one day i have dreamed of a battles against two airships in the sky of the edge of the myst and ethrenal battlegroud where players where actually fighting on both ships before the remaining and victorious one came and bombard a tower before assaulting it and claiming it

ppps: WvW is currently dying, i know i bring alot of ideas here but some (or all?) will need to be executed for the next big WvW ptch that i assume will be at the end of january. we are sick of waiting for fixes and actuall good new content. new mmo/rpg are coming (blade and soul, crow fall, albion online and black desert online) will gives wings to gw2 players to fly away from gw2 unless gw2 stays one of the best if not the best mmo/rpg out there. (i say this because not only WvW but also the pvp is broken and the actuall pve got lots of nerf (dungeons) and became a mindless event farm like you are working instead of doing them for fun(i did not tried fractals since the recent up patch on it).)

i tried here to regroup roughly the WvW community thought (and mine) about WvW.
i am sure you will complete this in the comments as i may have forgotten to speak about some important things.

if you agree or disagree, keep in mind that WvW need something new and refreshing. something which profite to better gameplay and better population balance. WvW is dying, lets save it.

guys, do you realise that all those ‘changes’ exept for the rally bot thing was already there before hot?

before hot catapults costed less, pk was giving a point when you had captured a ruin, upgrade was always about dolyak because upgrade costed supplies.

this is btw going into the right direction. i hope this time WvW will be closer to what players expected or it will be as dead as underwater combat.

hi every one.

i seek a good pvp team with maybe the possibility to play in a pro team.
by good i mean people with a good individual skill, good team play, (friendly, not rage kids).

i am currently lvl 73 in pvp and never really joined a pvp guild before.
as a lasser is incoming with a team leaderboard im now more interressed in the pvp aspect of the game and would like to do more than just ranked arena with some friend or with randoms.

WvW zerg mode…

gs + sword/axe or sword/war horn.

you impact with the lead melee. 3 then 5 then 2. your 2 with gs can do + 175 dmg with the right skills . you can crit from 7000 to 10000 in one 2 on 5 person. then switch to sword ifou have the axe and do 4 then 5 with the invulerability skill. then escape with your 3 and 2 from sword. dont forget to use your entagle ult and combo again with gs.

i dont say it will be better than a guard or warrior but that way a ranger can be very usefull in zerg vs zerg. not to mention your water zone with your heal for the party to explode.

if you play condi, axe/torch with traps and entangle gives you great condi aoe. place them right and they will not insta dispel them.

thats the best way i can find to play ranger in a bus. but not to forget that in every well organized bus there is some monotarget party. here the ranger is king and you can choose to nuke one or two target. (percing arows appreciable). nuke the lead and you win… or choose backline staff elem or necro to kill their support aoe.

if WvW were giving actually worth it reward like in the actuall spvp instead of the useless one we have right now ppl would come and fight. even those who usually dont come in WvW. a simple way to gather ppl is to give them rewards for taking action for their server instead of going to the mindless karma train in the edge of the mist becasue you earn more xp and karma there than on the usuall WvW server.

try to put traps with the throwing trait. there is an animation bug now. and you can’t throw 2 of them quickly anymore…

and if you try to use 3 different axe skills quickly you will notice that the third skill will not activate.

edit: ok in fact it is becasue of the winters bite 1 sec cast that this is happening

their recent patch broke the trap/axe ranger.

Bugged/flawed skill for Engi.

there is 3 other known bugs about the engineer:

1/ when you use the HGH trait which give you 2 stack of might per elixir consumed or thrown. but when you trow an elixir (apart from the heal one) you get only 1 stack of might instead of 2.

2/when you use the trait to deals 15% more damage with the flamethrower it shows on the skills 15% less damage.

3/when you use the trait to have 200 more armor with the flamethrower it does not show up exept sometimes on your stats.
