Redesigning the maps should be lower priority than fixing any of these.

I am kinda with the op on this topic. WvW is currently based on points and the points tick and that’s what makes zerging so attractive. It is easier to just show up at garrison with 40 players drop down 5 sup rams at outer and inner rather then get one of the towers and treb garri to death. A map design similar to EotM where you have to get one objective after another in order to get to the big keep and cant just show up and raise it with 20 omega golems out of nowhere would discourage zerging as you could find yourself pretty fast in a chockepoint situation. Splitting up attacking from different sides etc. more strategic thinking would be required. The moment one side decides to defend in EotM (especially frostreach) most of the zergs are pretty useless. For this you would need a map rework and a bigger map. The OP wrote about merging all the borderlands and eb into one map, which would be a great idea BUT there is one big problem here: the current WvW maps are the biggest one they could have created with the engine (if i remember the prerelease blogpost correctly.) So the current problems with WvW have far deeper roots then ppl might expect (dont forget skill lag !)

I agree with phantom’s points, the towers should protect the keeps, not sitting behind doing nothing. having keeps next to each other doesnt make sense either, a zerg can just rush in and take all 3 in 30 minutes.
See attatchments for a rough sketch of a borderlands idea that would make more sense.

Just increasing randomness without making WvW more competitive with respect to something else than pure numbers of players will only lead to
easy wins for the WTJ and blow-outs (or boredom) for all others

this clearly shows balance is more important than variance

1. there are a lot of high population servers below tier 1 , if you dont get enough people into wvw it’s a community problem, anet can’t help you much there as they try to bring pve players here and there into wvw but only with small succes

2. did you really just compared a 1 week old thread with a thread which been up for 6 months, you serious?

i am not for a full out randomized system like we had before, i want simply from time to time to have different opponnets as less and less people get into wvw and the borderlands get emptier with each day

Back in spring Anet introduced a very randomized matchmaking system, the number of different opponentswas very high. This system was introduced for a very good reason. The problem now is that the t1 servers are locked exactly like they were pre random matchmaking. So we are back to square one here in t1.

My suggestion would be that every x weeks of the same matchup or pairing the respective servers get an X week ban from each other.
So for example if you get a matchup like piken sfr viz for let say 2 weeks then 3rd week it will be impossible for this servers to meet each other.
And let say riverside and jade sea and server x meet for 2 weeks. Here again in 3rd week it will be impossible for riverside and jade sea to meet each other.

With this you could have some diversity for the t1 servers while not overdominating the lover tier servers.

Before accusing Elona zerg with zoom hack, i wanna ask that is it possible to kill any siege weapon in the middle of courtyard behind the gate? (no catapult, treb or mortar was used to kill them).

which couldyard do you speak of? dont forget you can look above half of the gates on the map as the doors are not high enough to cover the entire entrance!

80blob? on deso bl? we have a 60 man main zerg and a roaming 20 man group, we had so far 2 fights together, the rest was always splitet…

and seriously if you cant fill your homelands with more then 60 people the fault is not on us

80 player Elona zerg on Kodash border, sick! Ok then they split up 40 / 40 for 2 garrison doors. Looks amazingly boring. i have to ponder how that can be possibly fun for anyone.

At least we got some kind of holiday from the masses last week. But Desolation, lol poor chaps.

what should we do? forbid players to join wvw? flame them so they leave?

please dont showcase the blob dilema as the players would be at fault

Massive Blob from SFR (CoN, OSC, KoA, BOOM, etc.) is nightcapping at 1:40 AM.

yes SFR zergs too. so be it, but before we go looking for the speck in our neighbour’s eye, should we not remove the plank from our own? sometimes you lose the wider picture and you see only what you want to see. from sfr pov i can tell you that usually our zergs are compounds by small guilds forced to team up, we don’t wait for big numbers to move from our camp. i noticed that elona players, like vizuna or baruch, tend to avoid open battlefield if there isn’t a 3:1 ratio. so, gl doing karma/rank farm, i hope you’re satisfied and you get soon what you’re looking for.

that happens if you have alot of pugs, remember when anet opened transfers to sfr?
there are 2 simple rules in leading a pug zerg
1. dont wipe too often or you will lose like half of your people
2. command them as if they all wear zerker gear cuz like 30% of them wear it, 20% are uplevel’d and the rest dont know how to use a dodgeroll properly

and well, ppl tend to overestimate enemy forces and underestimate their own, so that counts into that fact too i guess (on both sides)

i agree with you that blobbing is incredibly lame, but you have to remember, like 40% of them wont even be in voicecom, so yes may be like twice your numbers, but they will die 2x or 3x faster cuz of wrong gear, uplevel’d chars and lack of communication/organization
theres a reason good guild groups can take on zergs with twice their numbers and more

these servers accepted them as a resource for their success and put some effort into organizing them, cuz language barrier and queues will prevent international guilds from joining their servers anyways, so they HAVE to stack up if they want to stay somewhat competitive (if you can even call it competitive in this game…)

and there are also small groups on ER, today for example we took your garrison on your homeborder with ~10 ppl (around 10pm, so dont tell me kitten about primetime and offpeak :P)

On National server you depend on your pug zergs and the only way not to be lootbags on foot with randoms is just make it sowiet russia style: BLOB!

while a GvG arena sounds interesting think about how many player on your server are doing active GvG 50 ? 75? 100? that just a small fraction of the people on the servers. I doubt Anet would put effort to create and balance something like GvG while they struggling already with the spvp/wvw balance.

Also as for now all the GvG vids go like that: we buff might, then jump in, jump out, jump in, jump out and then we either die or live. In my opinion GvG in its current state isn’t appealing enough to a broader mass, while it really almost comes down to: how good we are prepared and who has the better team composition. And yes of course someone will just post the gw2gvg site with 30-40 guilds making GvG but still its a BIG minority.

As we already read the current GvG is different from the GvG as in GW1, it is a playermade mode. If you want your own GvG arena you must make it more exciting(less a "who will zerg down the enemy first) and more popular with the broader mass.

well i think we have here another case of the waterfield syndrome…

first thing first : this game is/was not designed for any classes to use unlimited stealth at will at any time

so with this premise lets look what makes the perma stealth thief so OP:
the possibility to reset the whole fight for himself while using a minimum of utility skills and have no need to use these to kill someone else.

My experience with d/p thieves as a p/d (playing more for the lulz):

Round 1
he comes at me, kills of 30% of my hp i use caltrops, steal with poison, c&d then the one. he has like 10-15 bleeding stacks, he goes to stealth.
Round 2
after 5sec. he comes back at me again. full health, not a single bleeding stack no poison and even some might stacks while i am lurking at 80% hp… same procedure as above i fight left reght then i see my health is low .. refuge .. he just stealths away.
Round 3
he comes for the kill (with 100% life no conditions).. i use my signet blind him use dagger storm he backs off phew
Round 4
he comes again, calltrops still on 4 sec. cooldown,.. using heal signet.. health still dropps c&d, runaway but then down from autoattack.. i die, he is with 70% hp…

this repeated 3 times then i gave the supp camp and the dollys up.

in this fight every single of my utility was able to help me fend off the thief (at this point dear reader please remember not every class has such usefull utility skills), but every time i got the edge, put pressure on him, he vanished and reseted the fight for him while keeping most of the utility up and ready. somebody above said it a tactics to kill tanks.. well it doesnt kill only tanks, it kills everything with a 99% success ratio…

you say this has no uses in wvw? destroying siege, killing caravans, farming people runnig from spawn to the keep while its under siege… these things are crucial and the perma stealth thief excel so good at this things its just retarted…

tl;dr
perma stealth thieves have no valid counters besides 10 supplys and a stealth trap and that’s why they are OP

lol. Yeah, not really exploitable AFAIK. You’re all invulnerable to them in there, so if anything the exploit would be: how to CC one inside and trap it? >:D

well at least we at our server we use the citadell as a golem storage so and empty golem count as normal siege .. so you can exploit this in cerntain situation

i am not a big fan of the german style, we cannot deny its efficiency but we can complain that they pushed the defensive logic another step further than us, combined with the arrowcarts mega-hardcore-boost I guess that all the servers which fighted against us and complained about hidden behind walls must be absolutely hilarious…

if you talk VS Bl bay today.. well we were outnumbered with the difference of at least 20 players.. every time we stuck our nose behind wall we got steamrolled.. so well i made the best of the situation and built arrowcarts… on the other hand vizu lacks completly experience in siege of t3-t4/5 keeps …

anet pls tell me/us you are working hard to fix this issue…

for alle who dont know what’s that about.. by playing in window mode and stretching the window in very weird ways you can zoom out very far away and shoot directly behind several walls if you trained it a little bit… with this the ac changes backfire a lot as you can roll over the defences in a keep with ease (even with the nerf you just kill the operators on the deff siege) and keeps are basically now easier to take then to defend…

@buttski… the problem is, you cant manage a monolanguage server in an other way then pug zerg spam… it’s simply not possible because the second you start winnig with good players.. well see what happend to sfr, though we have a high population so no transfer needed for the wannabe wvw players… they are already here!

nice fighting today viz bl 3 hours long we kept the garrison with only 14 people cheers to every other who deffended it with me there, then of course some clown meant to use the resolution bug and destroy our whole deff .. rly poor play there guys .. and anet PLS FIX THIS… whole keeps fall because of this!

Some nice facts about our “blobing” in Elona Reach. We are running at prime time on each Borderland atleast one Guild-Raid besides our Random-Raid. Normally no Guild is runing with more then 35 in a Raid. Yes, sometimes our Random-Raid and our Guild-Raid meet each other but its rly hard not to meet if u only have one target left on the map.
At the moment we are that strong because we organize max. 2 Guild-Raids on each Bl and the rest goes in the “Random-Raid” and normally there are enough other Players from our WvW-Guilds in this “Random-Raids”.
Thats how our server-state is atm. The exception is the EB, where we have pretty often blobs but our guilds normally dont play there so… .

My Experience till now:
Vizu ran, got wiped whole day on the Vizu-Borderlands, we ran with one “Random-Raid” wich was around 30 player big and 2 Guild-Raids(Offensive-Zerg and Aegis) wich were around 20-35 players each. We held the whole map except for one tower for many hours(sry, didnt count). Oh yes, and of my guild-mates got a prec from one of the thousend Vizu baggys, thanks for that. Nice day for us, now u can continue ur trakittenalk.

Not sure if serious, everytime Bay or Hills is attacked by Desolation for example you call your whole zerg on that BL (usually 50+) and make about 10 arrow carts. Not even Viz sit in keeps with 50+ blob’s using AC’s.

well i hardly believe its 50+ besides primetime… we had(have) really big issues with keeping the pugs together so you will hardly encounter more then 40-45 people at one spot.. (only if guild group joins the fight then you have your 60+ but that happens only if PUG zerg is outnumbered)

as for the ACs… well let’s just say we learned one or two things in T2^^

I think the point which many people miss is that GW 2 combat is not about heal but dmg migitation. Dodge rolls, boon coverage, positioning that’s how this game supposed to work. As a Guardian, a defensive and protecting class which “replaces” the monk the best on aoe hps i can get is 500? maybe 600? Again in this game you are not supposed to heal others for gadzilions of healthpoints but avoid the dmg so healing is only needed in very dire situations and only by yourself. So while it seems water fields are fine, they just dont fit into the philosophy behind game mechanics and break them as a result.

Tier 1 EU needs assistance ArenaNet.

The problem right now in t2 on elona are partially the french holidays as we got quiet a beating in the last two weeks from jade.. Many players saw that as a prologue for t1 and the nay sayers for t1 grew bigger and stronger..

Also Elona has big issues with pugs and homelands,.. having queue on primetime with then only 50 people in ts3 and maybe 35-40 people with the comm, we will be nothing more then a big moskito for Viz.. so until we don’t fix that I as a homelands player dont want to go in t1..

In addition If we go up and SFR drops and then Deso and Jade goes switch .. well we will not hold a week..
