2-4 FPS, game is completely unplayable. Thanks ANet.
Edit: A little more background. Brand new PC: i7-4750K with a Radeon 7850. Brand new install of Windows. Only thing installed beyond updates and drivers is GW2.
Edit 2: Here’s the fix: Restart the PC and GW2 until the frames return to normal. Getting 84 FPS now.

Thanks for the responses. Since posting this, I have also discovered the MetaBattle website.
As for “What for?”, I tend to be a roamer, mainly because I’m currently guildless. Though, if I were to zerg I’d probably run my condi-grenadier engi.
I’ve got a lvl 80 engineer who i occasionally grenade with in WvW. I’ll be rolling up an alt to play with my gf who just started (thank you ANet for the free weekend!!).
What’s the current meta in WvW class balance? I notice that Mesmers are still OP with their portals and Thieves with their stealth. Sadly, I don’t really like either of these classes. Last I knew, warriors were designated to Rifle sniping, Guardians to forcefield protect (though I think that got patched), and Necros went with condition-spamming epidemics. Is this still the case or has things changed greatly in the last year?
Thank you all for the help. It seems that the build hasn’t changed much, just became less viable. Looks like I’ll be switching my Cleric set for something more useful. Anyways, it’s good to be back after a really long break.
Last year I was running a strong bunker engi using healing bombs, elixer gun, and Kit Refinement. It worked really well at the time. However, now I see that Kit Refinement and the Smoke Bomb have been nerfed, resulting in my build being a lot less bunker. I’ve got a full set of exotic Cleric Gear that I don’t know what to do with.
Anyone running a Healing Power engi, or have suggestions on making a “Bombs heal” build work with Cleric Gear?
I’m not even a Necro, and I understood completely what that picture was.
Came back to the forums to see if anything changed since the crappy proffession changes from the Nov 15 update. No game updates since then and the first Red Post I see is this. Glad I haven’t wasted the bandwidth to dl that Lost Shores patch, doesn’t seem worth it.
Simple suggestion. Having 1 person in GW1 do balance changes for classes didn’t work. 2 won’t work either. You have 250+ people in your company and are hiring more. Create an emergency team to go in and fix class balance and all the bugs. At least get an emergency team in to fix the bugs, if nothing else.
I think that after these patch notes I’m done playing. These patch notes were mostly a joke. I only play the Engineer and see no real changes to the engineer.
After announcing Ascended Gear I was going to give ANet the benefit of the doubt. If the patch notes were good, I was gonna stay. No real fixes or changes to the engineer + Gear Treadmill = lost customer. Good job, ANet.
Yesterday I noticed that my build lacks anything to counter CC or Conditions. I decided to switch to Melandru and don’t regret it at all. I need to do a bit more testing, but the loss of additional Protection didn’t affect my incoming damage. Thieves still wrecked me the same, but a more proactive use of Smoke Bomb fixed that.
I am running this build right now: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUlIq6ZX3y4F1LJyoCfWoHFmEqWiUofW2nCyFA;TkAgzCoo2xsjYH7Oudk7MIA
I find it’s damage is quite good. I really don’t like the idea of running Pistols with the Bomb Kit, as the Pistol scales with Condition Damage and the Bombs on Power/Crit. I like the Rifle + PBR for additional control on the point and they both scale well with Power.
Doh! It must be the Kit Regeneration giving me 125 hp/sec.
30 HP/sec doesn’t seem worth the tradeoff of even just Prot on Hit. I’ll be rethinking this and probably will go with either Earth or Melandru. I keep getting wrecked by conditions and just found out that Water Field + Projectile may not be removing conditions like I had hoped it would.
I’ve been working on a Bunker Build for tPvP. The build focuses on Kit Refinement for Elixer Gun and Bombs Heal, stacking Healing Power and Toughness for additional Power.
I can’t decide between these the Dolyak or the Earth rune sets.
Dolyak gives 125 hp/sec + 50 Vitality.
Earth gives +20% Prot, Prot on hit, and Magnetic Field (which I’ve not seen its usefulness yet). I have 3 sources of Prot: 1) Prot on being Crit (20 sec cd), 2) Prot on Disable (5 sec cd), and 3) Prot on hit (30 sec cd).
Which would you suggest? Or would you suggest an entirely different rune set?
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!!! I’ve been looking forever for another monocle and didn’t think they existed. Now I have monocles for all 3 of my gear sets!!
Why is grenadier underwater so overnerfed and worse than a speargun?

I find my grenades to be pretty awesome underwater, even post nerf. You are right that the spread has increased, but that’s actually a godsend since you can now easily kite multiple mobs.
I really don’t like the speargun, at all. The net shot never hits and neither does the timed bomb. At least with the Grenade kit I can use all 5 of my skills and know they will actually hit the mob.
I noticed that the pickup cooldown reduction isn’t working entirely as intended. In PvE the cooldown goes to 15 when you pick it up. In the Heart of the Mists, the cooldown is always 20 sec. And in sPvP I noticed it’s either, depending on some factor that I missed.
Can anyone confirm/deny this? Are the rest of the turret cooldowns working as intended?
I had thought that DEs were supposed to work the way you described and was quite surprised to find out they were just Chains with a Good and a Bad consequence. They considered that “branching”, but I don’t.
It would be very nice to see dynamic events have multiple paths to choose. This would increase the replayability of the DE and provide more depth to the “X waves of y”. I’m not exactly sure how this would work. I’ve stumped myself coming up with a good example, but this is what I have so far:
DE has 2 goals: Destroy attacking enemy forces, keep your lord alive. If the lord dies but you kill all of the defenders, the town is safe and a DE is spawned to get revenge. If the lord is left alive but the village destroyed, a DE is spawned to retreat to safety. If the Lord is alive and the town saved, a DE is spawned to go destroy stuff.
Is this intentional or is this a bug?
Apologies if this has already been answered, couldn’t find anything while searching.
I thought that by defending a point you get Skirmisher and an extra 5 for killing them on it, so that killing an enemy on a defended point will net you 20-25 glory per. However, attacking players on their point will net you that same 25 (skirmisher still counts, I believe) + 10 Neutralizing + 10 on capture (if my numbers are off, let me know) for a total of 45.
Heres something I did notice in sPvP, though. Since there are 8 people, often you will get a group of 4-6 running together. Once one group kills the other, the winning group moves on to the points and takes out everyone there. Since there’s 6 of them and just 2-3 defenders, the defenders go down quickly. This results in constantly being dead, and therefore no points.
My suggestion: Open up 10 man sPvP servers. 16 man is fine and all, but I want hot join 10 man that’s not tournament play.
Face it, the naga razer is the only thing that makes this class bareable

I love my G600.
Same! I use all the buttons for menus, call target, and take target. For the keyboard I use Taugrims keybinds. They work really well once you get used to using both mouse buttons to move forward. Makes it really difficult moving back to FPS, though.
I find it hilarious the amount of complaints here about wanting Engineer fixes. To all those who think the Engineer is EXTREMELY buggy I urge you to check out the other Bug threads for the other classes. Before this patch: Necro broke 100 bugs, Ranger has 50, Guardian 45, and the Engineer sits at just 25 bugs.
Completely agree that the Engineer could use some balancing, though, and definitely give us Auto-attack on kits!!!
Edit: Hmmmm….. Seems there are more Engineer bugs than the last time I checked. That Morgue guy had a lot of time on his hands and now I need to go see how borked my engineer truly is. My point still stands, there are a lot of bugs for a lot of classes. We should be happy with the fixes that we get and understand that we can’t have everything overnight. Development takes time.

Actually its right. While the duration does increase as you say the damage only tics once a second so it doesn’t matter if it lasts 1.99 seconds. It has to last 2 seconds before it will increase the damage actually done.
This is true for all three of the damaging conditions: Bleed, Burn and Poison. You need to get to that next threshold in order to get that next tick of damage. Duration also stacks additively. Take each duration increase, multiply it by the base, and then add it to the base.
This makes sense and shouldn’t be changed. It takes 120 hours to get to lvl 80 from the Dev’s 90-min/lvl estimation. And really only that character should be a commander.
This also allows Commanders to stealth into WvW if they don’t want to be a commander for one reason or another. Why someone would spend 100 gold and not use it, I have no idea. But they have the RIGHT to have a baby.
This. These threads never fail to attract people who claim they’ve unlocked the Konami Code which turns their engineer into a 3v1 unstoppable juggernaut of destruction that can’t be countered by any other profession, but then they always neglect to offer any insight as to how that’s possible. Probably because the claim has no basis in reality.
I submit the Node Defense Engineer: http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fcAQFAUl0p6ZX3SfF17ISoHFmEqWieUZWmj9pgcB;TkAgzCmosxYjwGrNObk2MIA
This gave me GREAT survivability with the Water Field Condition removal and massive amounts of Regen. Not saying this is a be-all end-all build, just something to try out!
To the OP, the engineer stands up pretty well against the other classes. In PvE, it’s quite amazing. I ran a tanky bomb build based on the above for a while that kept me alive almost as long as the Guardian I ran with. In WvWvW, Engineers are AWESOME thanks to 1200 ranged AOE Grenades.
It’s hard for me to say in sPvP. What I can tell you is it’s MUCH harder to be a good Engineer than it is to be a good Warrior. Just take the Heal skill for instance. Using the Med kit requires 5 key presses (F1, Q, 1,2,3) in order to get a full 8k heal off. The Engineer can have 14-34 skills depending on the number of kits they take.
As I explore the forums and reddit, I’m noticing a very sad trend of people complaining over everything. I felt it important to come and say “Thank you” and tell you the reasons I love this game so much!
I purchased 3 copies of GW2 for myself, my brother and a friend. Personally, I’ve logged in over 200 hours and my brother is nearing 300+ hours. Mind you, this isn’t counting the 50+ hours that I put in during the BWEs! The craziest part is I haven’t even made it to Orr or even lvl 80 yet; just last night I made it to the area south of Malchor’s Leap. This comes to just 30 cents on the hour for what I have paid for for just my account. I have NEVER put this many hours into a single game, even though I’ve played WoW, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Star Trek, Champions, DDO and a multitude of free MMOs.
I have followed the development of GW2 for many years now. ArenaNet, you deserve some great praise for the trends you are setting in the MMO and gaming industry. Iterative processes, “When it’s ready” policies, and an openness with your community has allowed you to create a great game that I know many people are loving.
Let me speak for everyone who can’t post because they’re spending all their free time in Tyria: THANK YOU!!!!
Amazing guide Tallman!! I knew that my engineer was powerful, but wow, he got a lot better once I started using those combofields effectively!
Keep it coming! I want to know what gems I missed in the trait trees!!!
