i’m replying based on what i’ve experienced so far…
yes,you can be full support,control or damage..BUT,as the devs says,you will be missing a lot of chances or opportunity to even more "support your friends..especially in dungeons..
example,i’m a warrior with a full control playstyle and i put a mace/mace and hammer + 3 control skills on utility.that gives you a total of 10 skills that have a control functions and faced with a numbers of mobs at a times and sometimes we need to focus on an enemy and sometimes we need to control the whole mobs or even do that at the same time…
this leaves you with an options to use all of this control skills at your disposal which is good,but at some point,you can’t use the skills because of the cooldown and your only options to contribute to the team is to help them make a dent on the mobs while on the other hand,yours will probably not enough to do the job well and this may leads to a certain demise…depending on situations and trusts
on the opposite, you can be flexible on the build and be everything you may need for the team survival.
personally i always rolled with the second options…my main build is to focus on the damage,but that doesn’t mean i always use GS or axes..instead i use ALL of the weapons that my profession can use and i like to experiment on how to do a run best whenever i’m with a friend or a PuG..
because with a friend i trusts i can be a total damage if i wanted too if i so wishes it and change my playstle or even traits and gears if i’m with PuGs..
so my advice is,be flexible..focusing on a major trait lines is good,but having a little a bit of everything on the way could make a big difference too..

here too…i’ve checked my ISP and it was fine,there’s no maintenance or any upgrades on their ends.i try restarting my modem and router,updating drivers,disabling and even uninstall anti-virus software..and no,not working at all and still got the same error 7 and booted to char select screen in under 1 minute…
i guess they had their hands full on the next week major content updates,but i hoped they didn’t oversee this..
please ANet take good care of us
Yes I know dungeons should be a “challenge” but it should be a challenge to the AVERAGE player not just the “elite” dungeon group.
i’m an AVERAGE player for a few weeks and now,well…,let’s just say dungeons becoming more easier along the way once you know how to tackle it…my tips:
1. find your best playstyle according to what dungeons you run atm,i’m a warrior glass cannon in AC but more comfortable re-investing my points in toughness in Arah.it’s not a must,but i feel safer..unless of course i run the dungeons with my guidmates which i trusted so much,i can go full damage on every dungeons i run.
2. like the above,if you can,find guildmates or even friends along the way…make connections,play it with good coordination using voip software or even by just typing on planning the raid
3. share your knowledge about what you know about dungeons and don’t be afraid to get someone mad at you because they think you’re mister know it all
4. there are more ways and tactics to tackle certain dungeon..and even the most elites do got killed in the process

dodging the leap attacks were like a walk in the park…but after that,we can’t even get near them until their animation stops or we interupt them..even from their backs…
for that’s the most disturbing and i loathe it so much…imagine,you try to get close to them while they chomp at nothing from the BACK of them,and then suddenly you got knockdown and still get a hit out of it…
from the front that’s very understandable,but from their back?come on ANet,..sure we can switch to range weapons,but that is not the point,unless of course that was intended…
it was like fighting a warrior with HB and a thief sneaking up on him to try to get a backstab and died because the HB can actually hit anything at a 360 angle
honestly i’d rather fight lupicus 10 times than have to meet those leaping lizards on the way

there’s a thief i met on W3,where we..yes…WE,4 of us vs 1 thief….and we got screwed..fast!
the thing is he can be invisible at anytime he wants..i didn’t know why he is immune to damage controls…i spam hammer burst,stomp,fear and he’s immune all the time and my engi friend’s control seems miss him all the time also
the only thing i can think of as of now is if a group met such thief best prob to just stack to one another…
any other advice or tips i can jave?? :P
Biggest and best tip : Never evade towards a thief in combat, evade away from him and keep your front in his direction.
Also, just because he’s invisible, doesn’t mean he’s invincible. I notice when I pop stealth, people immediately stop attacking and just stand there while I’ve moved maybe 2 feet. You never want to do that. Keep attacking, and your best tool against us is immobilizations, knockdowns, stuns, ect. And AOEs, my god they hurt. AOE is your best weapon.

ooh and one other thing…how can he possibly damage us,the team while not having disengage from stealth mode? does a thief disengage from stealth if they got damage?
i’m pretty sure we stacked up and starts spamming a loads of CC while getting hit..every one of us…
i spam 4,5 and F1 from hammer,stomp,fear…my engi friend spam all of his CC and we both and the rest got downed really really fast without him getting hurt at all…

@slimjim aaahh that part i know,as long as we didn’t stray too far from them..i meant how do you get past them without having have to fight them :p
@Zenyatoo how did you guys get past deadeyes??
my groups always clear the dungeons where there’s a champion in it just for the sake of silvers :p

When an initiator left the dungeon (DC or anything),the dungeon will almost always broke and can’t progress..this happens to me everytime anyone whose initiating the dungeon left…
i was confirming this by asking my friend to test the bug…and it’s true,if i left the dungeon in the middle of the progress and return again,then it won’t progress at all
what i have in my mind and wanted to be in the next changes about dungeon rewards is something as a caliber of ecto or mystic coin can be obtained in the end of the run..1-4 pieces of them would be quite good,i think

i would also wanted to see the fix…since head up start the Fast Hand traits in the Discipline line still bugged!!
every complex form of skills from other professions has been fixed i heard..so why does this matter takes so long to get it done?

It’s sad that I can’t just join a group of fellow noobs and attempt the first dungeon in the game together, learning as we go. Instead it was just a frustrating waste of time.

don’t worry it’s a learning process..i’m like you too at first doing dungeons.and i don’t have any friends at all,just a PuG..i even got kicked out from the group because i was a noob..
but then again i refuse that,i tried to renew my playstyle..from there i knew if i want to learn, i have to try something different..from playstyle into build…
and eventually i never been booted by anyone and now i gain many friends after that…

tldr
i’ll help yo with that..my opinions are: path 2 are the most hardest part for me.and no,i’m not trolling
i’ll try to give a bit pointers on how to do path 1 and 3,my way and my guildies
so:1
path 1, protect hodgins, you will need a good amount of high output damage = dps players are almost a must..if you don’t have those,you mix and match with a good 2 players with CC skills for guarding hodgins and occasionally helping offense team to downed the burrows
IMPORTANT : there are 2 chains of event inside this room and each consist of having 3 out of 6 burrows to spawn after one being downed.here comes the trick, DO NOT!!in any circumstances destroy the burrows in front of the door (North section of the room),if you do that, it will trigger silver graveling (breeder,stalker or even scavenger).in needs to be killed in a perfect sequence, which is : west,far south west, north east, north (front of the door), south east and the final is north west.
i always done this with friends and have no problem at all and by far is the most fastest route that can be finished with my group.
now for the path 3 : same as path but don’t need any sequence, it’s just pure coordination on killing burrows together as fast you guys can and have to have CC skills whenever you guys see gravelings threatening the devices.if you see any of those near them,just aggro them to make them following you, by walking near to them or hit them once and they will come to you..
TIPS : always look out for breeders when they are gonna spawn hatchlings,coordinate this with your mates on keeping eyes to them…if any of you see them spawning,control it,it’s a must!!use any,knockbacks,stun,blowout,anything to interrupt it..
oh and one other thing…bosses and even final bosses CAN be controlled and can be extremely useful to your team!!they always have Unshakeable boons (the silver icon below health),BUT you can still control them to interrupt their power attacks.IF it’s done there will a threshold called “defiant” which usually stacks 3-5 points.this means you can’t control them at the moment,unless you reduce those stack numbers by using more CC until it disseaper.once it’s done DON’T use any CC unless your team needs to use it..
well..that’s it from me,this is trick i can share with you all,i hope you guys find it useful..good luck and good hunting

I won’t say warriors are the most powerful class, but they definitely aren’t the least powerful class either.

also i might add,a WEAK class is a class that don’t have flexibility,won’t adapt,can’t utilize their combos and certainly doesn’t care about what happens to their mates..this only leads to a single conclusion : a bad group played with a very bad players

and you will get :
1. 3 CC skills + damaging
2. 5 CC skills + damaging also

which gives you a total of : 11 skills that can be used for CC, damaging and defense mechanism all at the same time..even to a boss in dungeons
above are excluding of how we supposed to timed a right and efficient use of dodge,positioning ourselves behind obstacles or taking advantage of combo field to generate wide area of boons and conditions,allies or mobs…
if that is not enough,get a gear which suits best for which dungeons..because every dungeons requires different settings,coordination,use of skills which leads again to take an advantage of combo field

so that is why i always found full COF armor users and play on AC EM and still sucks, die a lot, and complaining along the way about kholer, burrows being impossible to finish….
they acquire those armors with exploits instead of pure skills that demands them to think to come up with solutions to brinf down mobs rather than to “bypass” it…
That is a video of a lvl 80 Guardian, lvl 80 Warrior, and a Mesmer. Clearly they are going to do it with no problems, No show me a video of a group of 3 without tank classes, and by that i mean a video of a group of 3 making it WITHOUT a guardian or warrior, like let say an elememntalist and ranger, 3 lvl 30’s that aren’t tanks and don’t have epic gear on?
The problem here, is that these dungeons are NOT living up to the Anet Manifesto of Guild Wars2. That is the problem.
If they gave up their manifesto and made a traditional endgame, that’s fine, but don’t spout out change, and then not do it.
the video weren’t meant to guide on how to finished the dungeons,but only to give an example of how 3 men group can tackle such dungeons…
and tank weren’t supposed to be in the game after all,so it’s not a must to have specific professions,instead a good team should be able to change roles depending situations…
does that mean we have to have a guardian in the group?no..assume that it has a 5 or more damage mitigation and warrior can’t do such things?
the answer is no…warrior can have many damage mitigation and also damaging skills or control at the same time
here’s my current warrior build :
20/20/30/0/0
weapons : hammer.mace-shield.GS and rifles
skills : kick,stomp,fear me
and here’s my list of “damage mitigation” :
1. 3 from hammer
2. 5 from mace and shield
3. 3 from utility skills
so my total is : 11 skills that can be used to mitigate damage,damaging mobs and controlling them at the same time
that excluding of how i supposed to find covers,dodge and using fields to gain advantage from other members as well..
so a specific professions is not a must on dungeons rather it’s suppoed to be roles that can be optimized and used best for situations on dungeons…
like i said before,don’t give up hope….there’s always a way to “exploit” professions into something that can be very very powerful
i agree,only reagrding bugs on rewards..as for difficulty, there’s always a way to counter such problems…
advice : try harder and eventually you will find the “trick” to solve the dungeons…
the video shows how only 3 people tackles the dungeons only 30 minutes…this shows that many people complaints about how difficult AC EM for the first time,yet they found a way to only just 3 men run..if there’s 5 on the group i don’t know what would become of those poor mobs…
that being said,the first fewa days people complaining about AC is impossible at some path they’ve done it…and i’m sure there always a way out for other dungeons as well just like this one…
i am too,just like OP, which despise the difficulty sets by ANet at first..but i’m willing to try harder and try to think another way,build and try to communicate more with mates..
how to utilizes combo field to keep everyone buffed enough,how to keep them alive by get riding their conditions and to constantly apply controls on the mobs as damage mitigation,even controls for the boss

Maybe you were being sarcastic, but just in case, it’s most likely not intended. I’m just mentioning a workaround.

the burrows seem to have problems when using ranged as well… cant hit with bows.
this i don’t know…hmmm,,ranged weapon seems not working properly,but AoE does the job well done by ele i think

Keep moving while attacking. I run in circles on top of them when trying to hit them. I never miss. Then I finish the dungeon and get treated unfairly by the DR system.

sorry to hear about DRS, so far i got what i deserve..60 for each path i’ve taken in a day and the rest was just purely for fun doing a dungeon and leveling

don’t know if this is a bug or i’m just plain stupid,here goes…
the burrows that emerge have a strange hitboxes that can’t be touch by any other skills except my default attack, no matter where i’m facing the burrows..
i’m a warrior,i use GS on this kind of situation..and above cases aren’t the only one..sometimes with default attacks when i attack from the front it hits normally..and then when it reaches chain 3 on the default attack it misses, on the second attempt, the chain 2 were missed and the 3 was hit…for me it seems like a bug
it’s not game breaking, but it surely is annoying at some point when we have to race against time
so :
1. strange hitboxes
2. random teleport after it destroyed (i got teleport next door, at the south east corner of the room and stuck with combat mode and can’t teleport for a very long time)
so here’s my case..anyone have the same problem or is it just me being plain stupid??
NOTE : strange hitboxes not only appears on dungeons, but throughout the world when we have to destroy, for example, catapults on the shaemoor garrison and others as well

that’s a great experience and i agree that dungeons are hard,BUT!!it’s not impossible..it’s actually very very very doable
wanna share a bit about CM EM (i think it’s the 3rd path (no spoilers)
we head out with 5 players and of course died many times as the path was not that hard yet it’s a bit tricky to handle…
halfway thru one person (necro) went offline so we continue with only 4 people…we kept pushing evento we kept dying from zergs,traps+zergs and other malicious stuffs that ANet puts in it :p
not long,the 2nd member of our group was offline too and leaves us with only 3 person..and at this point we’re nearly done and the final boss are in front of us..
there’s no quiting at this point and no trying..we have to finished it!!
at last…20 minutes passed and we downed the final boss..Vollag..
moral of the story..don’t ever surrender,3 person can clear the dungeon EM..5 should even the odds
it’s hard,but there’s always a way to get it done..good luck and good hunting
okay…almost completed the map..yet there’s still 2 SP challenge that hinders me from doing it..
please ANet fix this
I completed both of these skill points within the last 20 minutes on an alt character, Aurora Glade eu server, so no bugs here.

at first there’s only one DE that’s bugged and won’t progress (defend the caravan) at Lake Bounty
and now there’s 3 including the above…2 skill points (near the vigil keep and near the brigantine isles – brainy pirate)
one is enough..the thing is, it’s already almost a month after official release and i’m hoping to see this bug fixed…

the way to use a shield is ONLY use it for power attack or you know that mobs amoing after you and wants to hit you at the same time…at least this is what i do until now and now, i can go toe-to-toe with Lt. Kohler in the AC EM,not long but enough to give my mates a room for breathing and catching up before we switched roles
event then, try to move around as you block the attack..shield wasn’t the only damage mitigation in the game,because you still have to dodge and kite too…
GS warriors with 4-5 signets in Dungeons anyone else hate this

i agree with the OP..signet build was great per se,but it’s value diminished when this build gets into the dungeon, and especially doing an EM run since the build itself can’t support others and will die very often (my experiences with the PuG)..
i love the build itslef but past lvl 40ish i respec the traits into :
Dungeon sets :
10/20/0/30/10
equip – Sword/Warhorn/Shield and GS/Rifle <—- very situational
i mainly use warhorn recharge 20% faster and have a shouts heals self and allies
skills : healing signet, FGJ, OMM, SIO and signet of rage/battle standard (mainly in PuG)
note : with this build i got perma swift,might and fury
so far i’ve run with my best group to tackle AC EM – Ghost Eater path in under 1 hour and my best time so far was 48 minutes
fortunately on my server i’ve yet encounter players that won’t listen to what others advice or tactics during the run
i was thinking about ditching Strength and Disc and invested in 20 for Defense and get the regen from adrenaline leves :p

1. if it’s possible add options to toggle rotate camera instead of having to hold RMB
2. i very much like the skins on the game (equipments), but i think there’s still plenty of rooms to add more variety, and my idea is ; add more equipment skins based on creatures (all of them if it’s possible). i got this idea from playing Monster Hunter years ago, and i’d very much love to see players running around with armor or weapons that’s made from a destroyer’s scale, or drake’s scale or troll’s hide, etc etc.
3. add 7 days cycle and give it names, for :
a. events that occurs on certain days and times, maybe ghosts more stronger on the friday night or something like that
b. craft equipments on specific days (nights or days)
i think this is all i can think of for now, i’m dreaming about this right now but i hoped dev read this and taken interest on the topic..

i’m looking for a build viable in both wvw and dungeon, i tried to spec +heal power and toughness but in dungeon all boss hit like a truck regardless of your defense, so iwas basically doing less damage but still taking a lot of damage, so i think at the moment vit>toughness, do you have tried your build in some istance? it worked well?
i’ve tried this build in dungeons..it works really well for me…
the thing is how we supposed to position ourselves..yes,the boss really hits us hard,but like yojack says,we can spam “5” to add vigor to our advantages…
i usually use bolas to keep the mobs in check..
so my setups are:
sword-warhorn and GS/bow (if in dungeon) with yojack’s build – healing signet,for great justice,bolas,and shake it off and signet of rage
whenever i find myself get hits by the boss or being closed by them,i use anything that can slow or immobilize and get try to disengage the aggro to gave some space for me to recover a bit…
if i see there’s one or 2 melee in the dungeon i could switch bows to GS…
so far my strategy brought me quite easily thru dungeons
well,of course all of that depends on how our group responds inside…often i found myself in the 1st timer dungeons adventurer..so if i keep myself cool and told them how to do it properly (kite them one by one,or pick the most dangerous foe first,or even divide the task to distract foes),eventually we pull thru..
EDIT : oh and i never did toughness…i go all on power>vit>prec
Swiftness is for kiting and getting behind the enemy so they cant attack you etc (known as kiting, strafing etc). The perma swiftness is amazing for this as good game play has you in the right position as much as possible. Spamming warhorn “5” gives you 13 seconds of 100% better regen on endurance, which equals double the amount of dodges normally possible in the same amount of a given time. Over a 20 second fight you would be able to dodge say 6 times vs 3 (not exact math here but you get why skilled players <3 warhorn)
Passive signets do NOT count as boons so no damage increase there sorry.

but, for now i use GS instead of long range weapons,well…not because it has a 100HB or something,i just love to play with style (i’ll go for axes if i wanted to see mobs health depleted :p )
on the other hand,i realized that swift in the build are permament if we so wishes it..i used it often for exploring,hehehehe…but can you gave me any tips about how do i supposed to utilize swift inside of a combat?
is it purely for kiting or with more swift = “dodging” ??or both?

but in the Arms i take Rending Strike (i was going for Deep Strike tho) and Forceful GS..
ooh and more thing..the Empowered,does passive signet counts as boons that can be added to the damage?

also,the Savage Leap have the same behavior as the Rush..whenever i tried to initiate it it flies thru the mobs…
BUT,it can be used quite normally when we already engage in the mid of a battle with mobs

comparing with the game on BWE3,gendaran doesn’t have any major DEs or ME going on…
is it just me at the wrong time or the events are much much fewer??
and there’s still one broken DE that won’t progress…i forgot the name,but players must protect caravan from bandit waves and it stuck at a brdige near lake bounty by the Almuten mansion…
if it’s triggered by this DE than i think ANet should fix this ASAP…i remember on my BWE on gendaran there’s a centaur cahmpion wat beast rampaging on one of the villages in the map…

just wondering how can an iron ore which is the next Tier of the refinement after copper ore sells so very very much low compared to the copper ore?
is it because coppers being used by Jewelry also?last time i checked coppers sells even still high than silver ores
my suggest is,while the above creatures drops the items you’re looking for,farm the mats while you’re working around DEs or Hearts too…
on the other threads, i heard that MAYBE, ANet has implement some kind of anti-farming system..this happens to me when i farm small fang on gendaran (boars)..it seems the system prevents us to farm the mats by making the mats itself “rare” at some point and “reset” the drop rate after a while (an hour or so)..
so i suggest, while you farm your mats,look for DEs that involves mobs that drops loot bags as they tends to grace us with other mats as well..

I believe you cannot farm materials endlessly… it will eventually yeild nothing the longer you farm. Farm a little, do something else, farm a little more. You can’t just roam around killing the same mobs over and over again… it knows you are doing that and adjusts drop rate accordingly. It’s an anti-farm code.
this may sounds a bit crazy,but i think it’s true O.o
i was on gendaran and i need 30 Small Fangs to make a pair of rare Axes level 35…of course i went to hunt the boar,yes the first 2 minutes gave me around 4-7 drops…but after that i have to kill over an hour just to get the drop rate to “reset”
after that i just do some stuff while i hunt for mats, DEs, hearts, ME..aaand guess what?the mats already piling on my inventory without me realizing it

they were stuck at the personal story quest and some are just stuck like that…
please ANet to attend to this matter as this is, imo, is kinda annoying problem when one’s can’t play thier character especially if their main char fills with good items already..

there’s a DE that our char was supposed to protect a caravan from 3 bandit waves and it stuck halfway done when the bandit wave remaining still 2/3
the position of the caravan stops and not progressing is on the bridge on the Lake Bounty
i kinda forgot about the specific DE’s name…but it’s there
