I say its worth in a build where you constantly attack your foes. More hits more chances to spam. As others mentioned Pistil Whip, Ricochet pistols and short bow aoe attacks but even dagger auto attacks can spam nice stacks. Pistol Whip used with Signet of Malice outheals Withdraw and Mug together so you can bring Sundering Strikes for some extra dps. The vulnerability duration is still meh, but outside a dungeon i say its easy to get 10 stacks.
Also the 25 points trait in Deadly Arts gives you 10% more dmg when vuln is up.
hayashi plz can you show us the ranger build you mentioned above, im curious to test it.

I dressed my thief like Ezio long time ago and am a fan of that look.
I am away from my laptop and cant tell you the exact gear but the white i remember its silver and white gold. For weapon sets try human cultural, they all silver style.

@Barfoi, we all know what bountiful theft does, we have lived enough days with that.
Still in Pve there are few mobs with boons, and that 10s vigor is useful in hard content, but how much content is hard in GW2? Maybe high lvl fract where you need to avoid those aoe’s. Ricochet adds chance to do extra dmg or extra bullet effect, so the question is do you want to add survability (vigor) or make their life harder?
For PvP ,,, WvW i agree bount theft is better.
@Siva Mira , i wrote above ricochet in concept is no brainer but maybe you passed that.
You believe the ranger’s piercing arrow trait or warr’s piercing bullets trait are more brainy?
@Tael, thanks 4 feedback. I was trying to make ppl think of different options about playing this class we like by trying different paths and you brought some arguments.
I am aware of rune of the traveler slot freeing but i just need 60g to do that.
Your point in deception cd is right, they add a lot in survability, a lot of blinds, blinding power + sneak attack add some dps as well. Plus you have a blast finisher, a smoke field and a dark field( pistol shots leech health here). Personally i prefer ambush (for distraction and gathering mobs while i and unload from distance), caltrops for rooting them in that spot, and sometimes sig of agility when insome dungeons.
I tried some Cursed Shore events yesterday, s/p p/p ricochet included. Switched withdraw with Signet of malice and let me say it is awesome. You are 90% hp plus all the time (wich may make me try scholar runes), unload and pistol whip shoot a lot. Unload is easy life cos you are away of the mess and ricochet adds a nice amount of dps. go infiltrator strike and pistol whip when you can handle and you have always a way back. Practically you see nice numbers on your screen. The init comes short after some time but with the new init regen you are better.
Lastly i must admit this kind of thief gameplay is less risky but less brainy than seeking to backstab or other thief stuff but compare pistol whip to the infamous 100blades or unload to ranger’s rapid fire and come again to my point. If we can play more safe on glass cannon why not…
In conclusion im in favour of ricochet for some points
1) adds considerably dps when against 2 plus opponents or like Dee Jay said against multitarget bosses like Tequatl.
2) in vemon builds has chance to apply the venom effect to bouncing target but in venomshare builds you must take off the extra venom strike (Residual Venom) which is a gr8 loss, but you decide it.
3) it is good for … ON CRIT traits and gear which have no cooldown like Sundering Strikes. More shots, more chances to happen.
4) nice in Steal & Stealth build (10/0/30/0/30) because you spread the bleeds and other applied conditions as well.

you might attack your target but its not sure where you will land, you might bounce to second or even third target. Another good point is you blind them, and can teleport again like a hologram avoiding a heavy hitters.
I havent tested yet if for example the fire blast of sigil can proc three times on a single bouncing shot but I am 99% sure it doesnt, on crit sigils have cooldown.
In terms of dps, a chance for every shot (unload 8xshots) to deal triple dmg imo is an amazing sum of dps.
Also I dont know about shots with venoms, do the bouncing shots apply the effect or no. If yes it would be amazing, can anyone confirm the countrary?

shadow shot with ricochet trait can shadowstep YOU to 3 targets in a sequence. You blind 3 mobs. Below is the original from tooltip.
- Should Shadow Shot hit multiple targets you will teleport from one to the other until you reach the last hit enemy.
Instead of ranger piercing arrows or warrior piercing bullets you get bouncing bullets.

I assume p/p thieves are few these days and that might happen for some reasons:
Init draining, no go in get out of combat mechanics, dmg isnt that gr8 compared to melee, single target dmg while sb is the swiss knife of ranged aoe.

…. basically i am advertising thief fans to use p/p because it might have its chances.
-First you can use glass cannon gear while staying ranged, spam 2 then 3.
-Second you can out damage sb because if the last hit of unload drops 7k practically u can do 21k the bullet can bounce to 3 targets. Even 2 bounces is good cos it doubles your dmg. As the tooltip says every of 8 hits has chance to bounce 3 times.
-Third you dont have the blast finisher (sb 2) on demand that you can use on water or fire fields. You dont have the sb4 + sb2 weakness spam, or the sb5 teleporting tool.
But you have lots of of projectile finishers, which can burn, poison, confuse, chill a lot through fields.
-Last but not least (…Each bounce has a separate chance to critically hit and trigger on-critical-hit effects). I have not tested it but i dont think Aoe Flame Blast will trigger 3 times if bounce occurs, i imagine Anet cant allow that, it would be 2 cool and on crit sigils all have cooldowns. It would be awesome to see 3 flame blasts do boom boom boom but that is just my dream. Sigil that can be exploited are Sigil of ice or blood cos they have 2s cooldowns.
It is verified that Shadow Shot teleports you up to 3 mobs and blinds them.
Below is my testing build, Pistol Whip for easy aoe cleave and Body Shot + Unload for when you need to stay at range, both dual wields can aoe and dps a lot.

After all we must presume Anet devs scattered the pieces and you brought them together by showing us the build and awesome videos.
I understood your point on dire vs carrion dilemma. Also i mentioned the shout warr or maybe the mesmer null field to say that they have their alternatives too. Although as i said b4 i tested this build and in terms of cc and condition spamming its super effective.
You spam the venoms by considering the upcoming encounter.
Since we mentioned warriors i will give another point in your favour…
Warriors put a lot of effort in landing their 100b, using immobilises, stuns, quickness etc. With basilisk and devourer venom they can stupidly facepalm the foe cos he is rooted and stunned. We can give many examples like this to evidence the effectiveness of this build.

good job messiah, thanks for bringing a combination of effectiveness and fun play. Also i guess you are one of few that showed us thief can be a support class, by explaining your every choice with logic which surely comes from gameplay experience.
Awesome choice with rune of the centaur set for perma-swiftness to group.
I tested this build in PvP with carrion amulet, and worked like a charm. I am ok with the concept that dire gives more survability cos the team needs u alive but i think power adds some not neglectable dmg. You may be facing a shout warr with cleansing ire that is easy cleaning of ur conditions, and direct damage from sneak atack (5x) etc is some dmg while pistol aa is meh without stealth or venoms and shortbow runs out of init. Also your opponents become easy targets because of stuns, and immobilise scales in duration. Plus your cond dmg mates are “buffed” by venom effects. Also the opponents are forced to use their stunbreakers and condition cleaners early in the fight which gives a fair advantage prematurely.
Result…. thief venomshare is a serious build and messiah showed it to us in an amazing way

i am a fresh 80 thief, been trying to experiment all “arts” and “tricks” of thief until now mostly in PVE. Ive been reading many of your posts and opinions because your conclusions come from gameplay experience.
actually i am seeking the meta or perfect build for PVE.
I like all trait trees cos they bring different approach to a battle, either be a perma stealth backstabber, a perma dodger, a stealer and boon giver, a heavy critter so my dilemma is u can do many things but what is most important thing for PVE and what setup should i choose.
and i dont have a real preference about weapons, like many of u i am aware of what any of them can do depending on the situation.
So i am looking forward to your thoughts and thanks in advance, everyone’s opinion is appreciated
maybe u werent incombat, so it may work during combat. the 300 range may work on s/d build where u stay 0 to 900 range to target and among team mates. also as other swap sigils it doesnt work on every atunement swap but at some cicles i dont know about. careful not to confuse it with the 15 pt water heal. Anyway hope it may be fixed soon

i never complain about warr dps so i thought about having a defensive rune set.
I play mostly pve and since magic find gear will be nerfed soon i thought asking your advice. Any suggestion is welcome, thanks in advance.
bleeding is the base of DoT condition dmg so its the 1st thing that comes in mind when playing condition necro. I think evryone knows that scept dagger with epidemic BiP and rabid and earth sigil can stack quite nice bleeds. But as LastStand said necro has access to evry condition ( soon burning also ). But its not only that, its about the gameplay, necro can absorb conditions (signet), heal with them ignoring poison effect, spread, convert boons to conditions etc.
Actually the topic i meant was another, lets consider three aspects:
1.necro gameplay and personal “fun” (do u resemble a necro aesthetic gameplay by playing cond or power)? Ive seen many necromancer themed weapons also that made me try that class, example is scythe staff skin or the skull themed focus.
2.necro solo efficient rate ( i have seen ppl in videos hit high 5 digit numbers in zerker gear while a condition necro can stack really nice bleed dots, but not only that, with rabid so which one is more “efficient” or resultative from each build)? and let me add that necro is not the best roamer
3. necro party, group, zerg contribution ( wich build contributes better to situations when u r with other players, what does pow based build bring that cond dmg doesnt and vice versa.

Hi to all necro fans. Played GW2 since release mostly on power based characters and heard from ppl that necro is the master of conditions. Decided to give it a try but on the lvling process (actually 40 now) i discovered that power based necro was serious too (mostly because of easily vuln stacking) and wells are a good alternative.
-My dilemma is this: which one is more fun, complete, serious whatever u call it, a power based or a scepter and dagger condition necro?
-And second which one brings more to a PVE party?
I welcome ur opinions cos i appreciate evryone’ experience with the necromancer.
