Here’s a pet peeve that hasn’t been listed, it’s a freaking Desert! Life doesn’t flourish in a Desert. It’s instinctual to avoid such an inhospitable environment. So why the Dev’s thought players would want to spend hundreds to thousands of hours in there, building and defending, boggles the mind.
For the most part, players are looking for greener pastures.

Who the kitten thought that this i a good idea should be fired asap.
North part of the new BL’s look nice, but thats only a third (probably less) of the map with exactly two towers, one camp and the furthest away from spawn if it is not your home borderland. Oh and you will still only see desert if you are attacking each of these towers from the front, because the green scenery opens up BEHIND these towers. kitten anet seriously.
Yeah but there is that beautiful Oasis in the middle. – yeah right, where you can do that frkn pve event which lags the kitten out of the map if there are more than 10 people on it. kitten anet seriously.
as if you have time to hit your target with a lot of autoattacks in any pvp enviroment. i really hope there is more to it and some actual nerfs to all these passive defense invuls other classes have.
this is a massive pve buff tho, unfortunately i don’t care a single bit about pve.
=conclusion: this doesn’t sound too promising yet.
Nope. Nobody plays WvW anymore. They could shut it off tonight and most people wouldn’t even notice except when they tried to go to the borderlands to craft or use the Forge. Compared to that, they always have multiple full maps going for any world boss, even the fairly lame ones. World bosses are GW2’s core feature.
Wow you are such a ignorant piece of kitten. As if you know everything and especially about WvW. We have still a queue in at least one borderland on Primetime (8-12pm in Silver).
It is true, that since HoT the population of WvW players went back and not just a tiny bit, a kittenload of player quit. But do you think all of them are now happy PvE-“we only farm World Bosses”-Players? Big kitten kitten you in your face dude, most of them quit the game completely. And that is the last thing Anet wants. So shut the kitten up you pathetic kitten and i hope Anet never gives Thief a 1200 range weapon, just because you want it.
/rant over.

You mean pressing buttons at the proper moment?
I think this man has a point.
But yeah it’s not even so much about the relatively minor boost to healing, it’s the fact that anet is unable or unwilling to make a simple and necessary change in a sane time frame.
Exactly. That’s what this whole Withdraw thing is about for me. For the sake of profit (or not) we get from it, as you already pointed out that it is a minor issue in the whole picture, i still cannot understand people who are saying things like “get over it”.
It is the best example for anet and their thief policy. And that is kittening cringe worthy.
Thief in itself is quite fine, it’s just the other classes – which are a bit over the top… I find you can still have a lot of fun as Thief in WvW. Lately, i came back to D/D classic non DareDevil and still am having fun.
The problem for me lies within WvW in itself though. It is the only game mode i really enjoy and since HoT it has gotten worse to the point, where i am (and many others) right before quitting GW2.
I couldn’t care less about another elite spec. If they don’t fix their kittening game i gonna quit before even a next elite spec being announced.
It may be unsportsmanlike but hell, i don’t get the hussle about it. In other games you call it gg and that’s it. If its clear that a game is lost, why the hell not?
I wouldnt say people are whining about Vault and its definately not about nerfing staff daredevil. It is about bringing the other builds in line with staff daredevil.
Most of the time i only hit 1 out of 3 Vaults. But why do i miss? Because i pressure the enemy to evade. Whereas in the meantime, another thief in the same situation needs to setup another stealth to “spam” his backstab (may even get his smokefield aoe spammed) and then tries to sneak onto the enemy (in a timeframe of several second which his stealth lasts) whilst that enemy is obviously moving around and cleaving like a mad man to “evade” the backstab, but still capping the point.
Vault vs. Backstab = Backstab is miles ahead of being useless. Even when we are talking about Bots or Afk players (simply still standing targets), a bound steal to vault combo does more damage in less seconds than backstab+heartseeker spam.
tldr; please don’t nerf staff daredevil because its doing halfway fine throughout the meta.
for backstab issue: let alone setting up a backstab and getting to your enemy in time is frkn annyoing for the outcome you get. trying backstabs midfight, meaning you +1 another fight or whilst fighting is hilariously clunky and helps the other player more than yourself, especially if you don’t hit the backstab which you had to invest time to setup properly and perhaps even got killed while in stealth, or just revealed..

Male Charr it should be then.
Since when is SS stomp at 100% stomp? You are no longer qualify to discuss this topic as you proven you are a noob.
He is ignoring you because, you are right with all the arguments you brought up in your different posts on that topic. Sir Ignorance though ignores you.. Just don’t bother anymore. The rest should’ve noticed it by now too.
Backstab is not the problem. Backstab in it’s current form is fine for the most part. This is why:
- It has a relatively low cooldown compared to other skills that do similar damage (cooldown based entirely on the Revealed debuff)
- It doesn’t have a cost for initiative and is based solely on being in stealth (which can cost a lot or absolutely nothing based on your build)
- It’s impossible to telegraph (compared to Vault which is extremely easily telegraphed)You have to also realize that the very second any Thief gets a Dagger in the main-hand, their weapon set will ALWAYS allow a way to enter stealth from weapon skills alone, which is a major advantage compared to the Staff which can only enter stealth through utilities or other sources.
As for design, its design is fine. It’s a hard hitting move from behind and that is all it is meant to be. The only real issue I think most Thieves encounter is when they are in stealth and the target is kiting them or just moving around. Thieves are then forced to use a shadowstep ability to catch up.
A nice quality of life change would be to add a very modest shadowstep to Backstab.
Hmm. I don’t know. When does stealth cost absolutley nothing? When you are getting stealth from your teammates or if you take fall damage (SA trait, which does cost some health tho)?
I find the small timeframes you have in stealth, make it pretty kitten hard to land backstabs infight, while evading AoE’s and stuff. Sure i can chain backstabs on a dummy, or a afk but i don’t think that is the point.
Some people here are talking like backstabs are easier to land than a telegraphed vault. That is straight up bullkitten, sorry guys. And the damage isnt that big either to be honest… But does backstab need a buff? I quite like the idea about “a modest shadowstep ability”, which may teleport you behind the player. 400 range?
Then again this is all dreaming, they won’t ever buff backstab in any thinkable way. Whatever.
Oh and why is withdraw still missing 10%?
Why is withdraw still missing 10%
Why is withdraw still missing 10%
I don’t like vault at all. It turned a skilled precision and timing based class into spammy aoe that any dummy can pull off. Combine that with bounding dodger spam and it’s just dumbed down to nothing.
Well they successfully made the Cloak and Dagger Thief theme into a Gummi Bears spammy jumpy theme. Great isn’t it….
God i hate staff and the whole gameplay around it -.-
Hm, for spvp.. Does it even matter? The thief-“meta” says we shouldn’t face enemies anyway = no need for dodges… :>
Hm. You may try s/d or p/d combined with p/p in spvp with daredevil dash, heard good things about it.
p/p has definately its pros against some classes (kiting a necro in reaper form and keeping high pressure eg). But you can hardly say it is a range weapon tho. With only 900 range, every other class with access to a ranged weapon outranges the thief. This makes it very difficult when you are facing another ranged class, also because of the lack of defensive skills on that weapon set. Pistol #5 + Bound dodge gives access to stealth but within melee range of an enemy the bound damage denies your stealth when you hit someone and you lose your kiting ability without unhindered combatant.
I think p/p is probably only of use as a replacement of shortbow and then all your mobility comes from unhindered combatant which may you leave without endurance and not able to kite therefor.
I like the style too but it feels really lackluster to me.
Okay guys, everyone saying this skill is fine and easily to dodge in a wvw scenario is delusional or never played any wvw at all.
If the enemy party runs 5-6 revs (in the meantime i’ve seen even more on a 20 man raid grp) it is just absurd how much this skill and even the hammer autoattack dominate the fights. And that is simply a fact and a definate hint that there has to be done something. that change should also only affect wvw, as many should (ofc) because pve, spvp, wvw are totally different and a solution for all game modes at once, always leaves one behind. right now it is definately wvw which suffers from the heavy long range dmg output revs can do.
i use p/p + d/p with daredevil dash when i am running mindlessly around in big blobs (wvw), its okayish but for pve its not worth it. they removed the ricochet trait mid 2015 which removed p/p indefinitely from pve.

You could about face to chase the same way as with withdraw. Also you would be able to keep range on a person trying to close the gap on you.
Having unload as a huge initiative dump without utility like the rest of the thief weapon sets is just holding the set back.
Facing in the other direction without having a target to make advantage of the backward roll is just meh.. I meant it more like you are following your target in range whilst “unloading”. Unless they would add another reliable damage skill to the set, i don’t see crippling unload as an option. the auto attack in itself is just too slow for the amount of damage it does. I would rather prefer other options as mentioned above. Like having it apply vulnerability and or something of that sort.
well i have to admit, that would make sense, but then again.. meh. #justthiefthings
That Unload change to a backwards roll would kill the whole set indefinately. With that little range you’d be out of range after every unload and you won’t be able to chase whilst “unloading”.
Sure when you think of spvp or close quarter fights it might be a viable option. I prefer to play p/p in wvw with d/p and unhindered combatant dash. it really makes up for the lack of SB#5 and you are still able to kite easily, especially when using Signet of Agility. I would’ve never even thought about attaching a contrary backwards roll to it.
I am 100% on Serious Thought’s side on that matter.
pfft who needs pve, i only play pvp… oh wait…
that gif tho.
Arent thief one of the highest, if not the highest single target dps? Whats with all the thief are weak threads lately?
Every class are qqing that their own class is weak. Just play what u freaking enjoy. Every class is weak every class needs a buff
you don’t play thief do you? what are you doing here, try to convince us that thief is in a optimal state? is it enjoyable being kitten on by every other class (except perhaps warriors) when you make one fault?
and no we do not have the highest single target damage.
DH is fine and need a buff or two.
okay.
Thanks for sharing your builds and opinions Caed. I can’t however, understand how you can say Thief is ‘fine’. I’m not a PvP god, but before HoT I could definitely hold my own playing Thief. Nowadays I feel completely useless. Can’t kill except in +1 situations, all I can do is run and decap. Now, this could be attributed to my skill level, but upon viewing some recordings of your streams I notice that you don’t get a lot of kills yourself. For a player with as much experience in this class as yourself, this can’t be a good sign? Maybe I’ve been watching the wrong recordings, or we differ in our views on the Thief’s roll.
I’ve tried different builds and playstyles for a couple of days, but nothing seems viable enough to warrant me spending time playing Thief. I’m beginning to feel like the concept of the Thief is flawed. It’s either too powerful, or too weak. It’s squishyness is not balancing out the massive damage it used to have when played right, because of it’s stealth and mobility. Take away/nerf the damage and all you have left is a squishy class that’s only strength is mobilty. This, I sadly conclude, is quite an accurate description of Thief’s current state.
I really hope I’m wrong.
I have a disclaimer but it’s fairly easily missed. I do not play the same in queues as I do in tournaments. Queues are usually just for fun, I mess around and I put myself in situations I wouldn’t in a competitive setting just to see certain situations and try to improve or pick up on things I can work on. Realistically speaking Thief match-ups are back to what they used to be somewhere in 2013. Things are fairly 50-50 across a lot of classes, with DH, Druid, and Tempest having advantages (5-95 or Higher, 15-85, 30-70 respectively) and Thief holding advantage over Reaper, Mesmer, and Warrior (75-25, 70-30, 95-5). Keep in mind these numbers are just estimates and more towards my interpretation. It’s almost always better to avoid 1v1 on Thief because you can out-rotate and attempt to snowball the map before your opponent can catch up.
Thief also holds a place in team fights. It has good survivability, can stick on targets, can get out of fights, can instant stomp, and has huge amounts of cleave. I don’t see it as overly squishy – I think Reapers, Dragonhunters (depends a little on their utilities), and Warriors are far easier to lock down and kill as a team under most circumstances. They have few options for escaping being trained in comparison to Thief.
So yea, I honestly think Thief is fine competitively. It’s not bad, it’s not the best – but it’s more than viable and brings some unique things (impact strike, mainly). If other classes get toned down it will be in a good spot. I don’t think it needs buffs, at all. I don’t want more power creep in the game because it’s a lot harder to balance at that point. I think the overall design of Daredevil is good, and the only thing I don’t like is staff 2 (Weakening Charge) due to it being extremely clunky.
When i interpret your post correctly, you are solely refering to a staff build. This probably means D/P is out of the meta and we are forced into playing staff? Because i have a hard time seeing these advantages you are talking about, in any other thief build.
video proof or did not happen.
Boy don’t we all miss the days when thieves could fight a zerg single handedly?
I mean… all these nerfs are so unjustified.
Erm. This video hurt to watch, no offense to Yishis, he is a really good player. But look at the opponents, half of them standing still, absolutley no awareness of their sourroundings. Looked like it was one person Multiboxing lol.
Oh and it was mentioned, but i don’t feel like it got noticed. They completely removed the Ricochet trait which removed the whole set from pve and crippled it hard for pvp.
really good question. bump
No wonder Devs do not read that forum.
@Sir Vincent III: I laughed.
