Whats Gunnars Hold wvw like?

in WvW

Steelo.4597

Gunnar’s is a server worth fighting for. It made me get up at 4am at some point just to take 2nd place off FSP in season 2. I stood there at the cannon waiting for their pvd zerg to hit our hills.. gave those kitteners a 1 hour fight untill the 4 of us had no shells left, but stopped them from taking any other keeps because dawn was coming and with it GH was coming alive again. Never thought i would get up in the middle of the night for an mmorpg competition but there i was for Gunnar’s Hold. Now that i’ve quit the game with HoT i’m still looking at the ticks and forum chat every day and feel like a deserter Gunnar’s isnt for crybabies and people who want to get carried by offpeak pvd.. GH fights with teeth and claw for their place in silver and many a foe have praised us for the enjoyment we deliver. Not only to ourselves, but also to our enemies.

i fear we will look back to this day and remember the good old wvw as it is now – Jan 2015

1 day of cheaper server transfers

Ermm .. there is also the possibility to buy half the gems with real money (as you say a lower price would be acceptable) and that way need lees gold for the transfer.

These days with the buffs in Southcove it’s pretty easy to make money. Imho that’s the better solution, than deleting your chars.

Mini Rant and a question.

also i wish quest giving was better, i hate just running in to area to have the quest just appear, id rather go to the npc involded, accept the quest and learn about what im going to do. maybe if they added some epic quest in it would be better. i mean can any of you tell me quest that made you go, “oh wow that was one epic quest”, instead of, " wtf is that all the xp i got for that :’( "

Yes. Linneas and the vicious tacklin’ rabbits.

whats the story for that one ?

No real story, you are collecting fur while getting knocked down by bunny rabbits, quite annoying I thought. Leads to an event that you kill a veteran jotun.

you see, thats not a quest, thats a task,

now imagen you had been given the quest to save a womens daughter from a jotun up in the mountains and you had to sneak up to its cave covering your scent with the fur of rabbits, but while escaping you get corned by the jotuns brothers and have to defend this girl from being killed, after returning her safe you discover she had be promised to the jotun as part of a deal when she was first born but the mother had changed her might after she was taken, the girl find out, leaves her family and demads you take her to LA where on the way she insist you show her how to fight as she wants to join the lion guard but was never aloud to (as she held at home by her mom for the day to be handed over to the jotun. <——-

now thats what id called an interesting quest. do you lot have any remakes you would rather see?

Maybe you should should be on quest design. I enjoyed just reading that, imagine all the story in between. I definitely don’t think of the events as quests, nor do I feel like an adventurer. There were a lot of cool quests in GW1 that had this type of design.

One of my favorites from WoW is where you talk to the ghost of a girl whos father died in the war and you collect her doll parts, put them together and give them to her. She doesn’t know she’s dead and asks that you go find her father, it goes on and is really sad. Things like that really connect you to a game, so I’d like more of it of course.

Another example is one where you kill a zombie that is harassing a graveyard and you get a book telling how he got that way, he went off to fight in the war and came back to see everything in shambles he asked everyone in town of his family, he went to the graveyard to see his wife and 2 daughers names on tombstones, started flinging his sword in a fit of rage and ended up killing the 2 keepers of the place IIRC, killed himself after realizing what he had done and you get his sword that glows at the end. Another sad quest and those are relatively early in the game.. oh the memories.

Those are TRUE quests.

Back to WoW, make GW2 fun please.

GW1 skill system vs GW2 skill system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Space Cow.2431

Disclaimer:

There are many things GW2 does WAY better than GW1. Graphics, voice acting, being able to jump (lol), open world, etc.

This thread is not about how much better GW1 is, it’s about the one thing GW1 did that is still leagues above GW2: skills.

The following is an analysis of what each player has access to in ONE character as far as creating a skill build goes.

GW1:

-7 of 1026 normal skills (roughly 125 per profession, everyone has 2 professions, second profession can be changed. 81 skills are common across all professions).
-1 of 293 elite skills (you can choose to drop an elite for a normal skill instead)
-200 attribute points (to distribute across 1 primary attribute and 8 of 36 secondary attributes)

GW2:

-2 of 5 sets of 5 weapon skills with aquatic counterparts (on average).
-3 of 22 utility skills (2 racial)
-1 of 4 healing skills (1 racial)
-1 of 6 elite skills (3 racial)
-70 points (to distribute across 5 trait lines)
-7 traits (1 for each 10 spent in a single trait line)

In my opinion, GW2’s skill system is far too restrictive. The biggest issue is in the weapon system, because those are the skills you will be using the most in combat and there isn’t much room for experimentation there. The pool of skills to choose from is simply too small once you’ve committed to your race and profession at character creation.

The only thing GW2 does better than GW1 as far as the skill system goes is Traits. Traits are infinitely better than attribute points.

I don’t think Anet would overhaul their skill system this far into the game’s lifetime, but I might as well bring up my two cents and see what happens.

Some guy did it in his spare time, part of his hobby. Are you really going to tell Anet employees they have to work on the game in their downtime?

Unofficial "Dueling" Area in WvW: Look!

in WvW

Posted by: Darx.9842

Darx.9842

Many of us want dueling. And since it has not been implemented yet, I propose we the players, set an area in WvW that players can come and peacefully duel 1 on 1, no stomps.

This has already happened. Last night there were 40+ players from all 3 servers in the same spot, dueling. People told their friends and guilds, and more people just kept showing up for the fun.

It starts with a /bow. And if the other player /bow’s, a duel can begin.

It was the most fun I’ve had in-game in several months. I participated in dozens of duels. Many were rematches and bests of 3. Many times enemy players would invite me to their party and we would talk about the duel, our builds, strategies, etc, I even added a couple new friends to my list.

I was there for over 3 hours. I witnessed no foul play, no trash talking, everyone was very polite.

The area this happened in, and the area I propose we set as our unofficial player dueling spot is the southern most point of a boarderlands map, just passed the skill point, next to the giant windmill. It happened to be in the green boarderlands, so if people went along with this.. It could always be in the green boarderlands.

Posting a couple pictures for you guys.

About time for new armor sets?

i want freedom of stats allocation.

give us blank skins.

let us slot in the major and minor attributions ourselves.

Which isnt contributing to the topic, so please leave it in yours. You dont have to bring it up again and again if you were shot down before.

At the topic.

They stated in an interview that armor sets are more complicated then weapons to make and thus it takes some time till we will get new ones.
However you are right. There should be new ones.

Right now we only get some “lame” reskin townclothes in the gemshop and that is a disapointment in my opinion.

I’m all for new armor…At lvl 80, full exotics (karma) light armor, the skins are all the same… Whether you get it from Arah, or Grenth, or Melandru….

It would have been much better (opinion alert) if each one had their own “special” armor. Something “growing” for melandu, and “deathly” for Grenth, and maybe something like a Battle Mage for Balthazar, but sadly, no… they’re all the same.

I do hope they put in more skins, but I also hope they don’t make them so that anyone can buy them. I would rather be able to see some guy in Uber Super Skin Plate Armor and absolutely KNOW he earned it.

I love the game. I love the art, I love the mechanics and I love the fact that they tried to do something different regarding trinity. But as a loyal GW2 gamer and someone who played GW1 for 6 years, I can’t help but feel the last few patches have been utterly underwhelming.

They clearly have some very talented people at ANET. Great artists especially, but the potential and excitement of where the game could go has been worryingly deteriorating at a rapid pace. For me, the last REAL update content wise was fractals. An enjoyable update to the game that kinda gave it a mini raid feel without all the hassle that comes with a classic mmo raid.

Yet since then, what really has been added to the game in any meaningful way? Yes there have been updates to W v w and PvP, but as I rarely participate in those, I feel that the core playerbase of the PVE world has largely been neglected. The rot set in with the Karka event..Ill conceived, bugged and although it introduced a new area, it felt Spartan and unfinished with absolutely NO reason to go there other than a bit of gathering.

The guild bounties etc have also been poorly implemented imo too. What you basically have is guilds sending out members to find said mobs and then after a chore of a search we all gank them and that’s it..Sorry, this is dull as and not immersive in anyway. It’s also no where near as exciting in practise as we were led to believe.

And then we have Flame and Frost. Possibly THE single most underwhelming and pointless update yet. First off..no one cares. Seriously..no one gives a kitten at all. We are not emotionally involved AT AL! I have yet to speak so a single player in game who found the event..if you can call it that..anything other than a chore. It didn’t help by starting off with a main feature on the website, yet all you did was build a few sign posts for a few months. Now after all this build up, we find out the Dredge are involved. Do Anet realise that after the risen, most people hate fighting the dredge?

But mostly, the profession balance. Ordinarily, I really don’t complain about profession tweaking and one class over the other but in GW2’s case, its really really hard to ignore the fact that Rangers are getting screwed over and warriors are top dog. But no one knows why? They really can’t understand it..and who can blame them?

Like I say, its cos I love the game so much and its cos I CARE that im making this post, but I can’t help feeling really disappointed at the direction of the game. I already ditched WOW and SWTOR for this game, and tbh now I’m simply thinking MMO’s are not for me. ANET could do worse than examine the masters of MMO’s..yes Blizzard and really investigate why an 8 year old game still trounces every new mmo release to the market…The simple answer is it listens. And Content..lots of it. They have a brand new 12 boss raid…what do we have?? Banging some fences in the snow and npcs we could care less for…

Really Anet? I respect your artistry, but I really sometimes wonder if you gusy actually paly your own game

Is Power/Staff Builds Viable?

in Necromancer

Posted by: kidbs.8920

kidbs.8920

You can definitely do a power build with staff. I use dagger/warhorn for my 2nd weapon set so that I can burst anyone who gets close to me. I would also highly recommend specing to be able to target where you drop Wells and using Well of Suffering as it does a lot of damage in a power build.

There are a few variations of builds that you can use, but something like this works very well:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNBmQDbkRrSPTTdjhTRIV4ZQFefMDiNMaGujdA;TsAg0CnoqxUjoGbNuak1sEZAxGCA

Lich Form does a ton of damage so use that when it’s available, use your wells when they are available, build up your life force to 100%, switch to that until you get to 50% life force then hop back out and use your staff or dagger attacks to build it back up and repeat.

I usually switch out my third utility depending on the situation. I often like to use Spectral Walk or Signet of the Locust in WvW or sPvP.

I was wondering if it might be like the doppelganger in the Augury Rock mission of GW1 – actually literally based on your own character. That would make it “personal” and would explain how any of us would recognize the person no matter which story branches we chose.

Seriously this is ridiculous, There is one guy who spent 75 dollars trying to get the 4 minis fromt he gift boxes and did not get 1. Why did Arenanet not just sell them in a 4 pack! This is beyoned unfair and goes against everything Arenanet has done with the gem store. I seriously hope people +1 this post so we can get Arenanet to put out a 4-pack sale for the minis. I refuse to spend money on RNG but will 100% spend money on the 4-pack!

I remember when Arenanet told us that fear is going to be a necro specific condition and I was happy like really happy, because I always liked fear. However Fear is not only available to other professions but they are actually outperforming the necro in that regard. Every fear on every other profession has a longer duration than the fear of the necro sometimes even 3 second duration. WE would have to trait for that and then chain ALL our available fears together! How is fear necromancer specific when it actually isn’t?
