Fluffball, can you please expand on why you think core ranger may be better for WvW? And does that apply to roaming as well? Thanks
how about…..increase the astral form charge gained from using other weapons beside staff, that way we’re not pigeonholed into staff when speccing druid.

Hey Helly, how do you feel about the Hoelbrak runes instead of pack runes? Any reason you prefer the latter?
Koru, in time you will realise how incredibly usefull an on demand stealth field is for the Ranger. Before they changed it to smoke assault, people were actually saying ranger will be viable again because of it. Now they’ve changed it back we can all rejoice.
…however, for PVP I would like to have the option to choose smoke field and smoke assault. The same should be for all pets.
Hi Potato. Could you please clarify what you meant by that?
Wow. You fools with all your crying ruined an excellent burst skill……..
Amadeus, are you still running the Berserker-bruiser build you previously linked in other threads?
For reference, it’s the one below.
Just wondering if anyone can answer the following questions:
Is it still possible/rewarding to roam in small bands or solo? Does the map design even permit such things?
Thanks…
Has anyone tried WvW and roaming? Saw some guy bragging about how fun it was on the mesmer forums and was wondering what you guys thought.
I run s/d and longbow for roaming. Those are my stats. Very strong all around build that has hp, armor, power, crit rate, and crit dmg.
How are your stats so high and well-rounded at the same time?
I just messed around a lot with build editor. Gave myself a baseline stat I wanted to hit on each stat. Then tried to see if I could push it even more. That’s how I developed my build. It’s really an amazing build in wvw. Hope you can figure it out. Try to go off my stats. It’s including wvw stacks, food, etc. No might, no fury though.
Ascended gear, or exotic?

Meant to say this in my previous post instead of tunnel visioning regarding the build, but excellent video as always!
Or, we tried to at least, and then at some point he said, “Interesting, let’s see where this goes.” Maybe you’ll tell us Mike?
Hi guys, I’ve been away for a about 7-8 months and suddenly I seeing everyone crying about D/D being extremely good and overtuned….as if it were 2 years ago. Was the revamping of traits from 2 months ago what made us good again, or?
Thanks!
Lots of good rangers roamers prefer S-D over GS, Mike Floryan comes to mind –
https://www.youtube.com/user/kaybosh44/videosWould love to know what build this guy is running…
me too
Thanks for all the responses everyone!
Good point on the QZ.
Just wondering, but what are the stats on pact runes? Can’t seem to find them…
So far, the build has been working quite well for solo roaming, as I’m able to dish out pretty good damage at both range and melee, while remaining reasonably tanky. Sometimes I substitute the GS in place of S/D and change the appropriate trait. Although I suspect I may be a bit too tanky and suspect it can be improved.
Thank you.
P.S. I use offhand training for the increased range on D1/D2
so upset I missed this >.<
Please tell me this is still in the store…..
Bredin,
I’d be interested in seeing some videos; tried searching for them myself to no avail. The build seems really fun to play and I’m looking forward to trying it. Currently amassing the gear.

Thank you all for the responses. In so far, it seems like there’s a trade off to be made between fun vs practicality. I’ve level both to 25 and find the elementalist to be more fun than the mesmer (in terms of basic class mechanics.)
This observation may be inaccurate in the long term because I’m not factoring in any traits and builds given my low level – just the class mechanics. What that ultimately means is that by 80 the lack of practical builds on elementalist may wind up causing the character to be more boring in fact (and less useful).
The thing is, I will be playing solo for the most part – or with a guild of strangers. In light of these circumstances, it seems the mesmer, while more boring than elementalist, is the more practical and useful of the two. Seemingly, mesmer’s versatility would open up more gameplay options than if I were an elementlist…or am I wrong? Before the present meta got so condition heavy and D/D was nerfed, did the public have such a poor perception of the elementalist in PvE?
You’re right Byron (awesome response earlier in the thread btw), I can’t really judge the class. Just forming an impression.
As someone who switched from ele to mes, what would it take for you to return? Or has mesmer become your new favorite?

thanks,
wow, ironically I heard the same exact thing about elementalists – how none were represented at Pax
Oh yeah? Why? that sounds horrible
I’m suffering from a serious case of “unable to make up my mind,” and need your help because these types of threads are fun to read and helpful. I enjoy both classes but do not have to patience or time to level more then one. With that said, my endgame will consist mostly of running dungeons and pvping. I intend to do lots of WvW but on a small scale (small groups or solo). Which of these two classes do most of you find the most fun? the most satisfying? the most useful?
Elementalist Pros
-Fast mobility
-Twitch playstyle
-Seemingly a sustainable class (I love how d/d feels incredibly easy to pick up and play, even if for short bursts of gaming. This feeling is attributed to the speed of the spec and its ability to jump in and out of combat)
-Can take up many roles with the same spec
-Create for PvE and collecting skins
Elementalist Cons
-Pigeon holed into a few specs (pvp)
-If D/D (my favorite spec), Low damage, low health, pvp frustration
-Not as much variety in specs…may get boring
Mesmer Pros
-Large variety of specs to keep someone interested
-High Burst
-Swords = cool aesthetics (2handed and 1 handed)
-Amazing combat mobility
-Fun mechanics lead to variety of support methods.
Mesmer Cons
-Must prepare spec in advanced for designated role
-SLOW AS * when out of combat.
After this meta is over, do you guys think that Mesmers will be the next class in line to get heavily nerfed? Will the new meta shun mesmers? Will elementalists once again see the light, or remain the underdogs?
Thank you,
Zig
