I don’t know how you could come to this conclusion since they are a straight upgrade over what Soulbeast has right now.

a non-perm 10% damage modifier and another 7% now nerfed to only apply when under effects of quickness? Which is so hard to get. Trash tier traits. Ele get 7% under swiftness already. The traits suggestion you posted on another thread is much better.

I don’t use any of the master traits. Please anet, give us something on this tier that is applicable to all if not most builds. Preferably something that can synergize with the whole Soulbeast specialization.

In WvW even when standing on top of a wall shooting down 1800 range seems to be the absolute max of my arrows.

No it reaches slightly more. But you can’t hit that far if you and your target are on the same level.

This is actually a pretty dumb example. It only shows us that the game doesn’t account Y(verticality) as much as X(horizontality) for an arcing projectile mechanic.

Escapist’s Absolution changed from 1s ICD condi removal on successful evade to 2-3s ICD condi removal on dodge.

This. Witnessed this condi dd 3 spammer survived a condi bomb by a nec and at the same time tearing him apart with his own condi spam. It was just absurd.

Thank you for your constructive comment Mr Pin. That’s a really interesting way to look at it. Maybe it’s just me but I find that it isn’t that easy to generate AF if I do not spec into bm or have the passive regen from SotW.

Besides, aren’t glass cannons supposed to be vulnerable to heavy burst? That’s the draw back of the builds. Focusing on giving them sustain by neutering our damage seems doubly counter productive.

I agree. Sure I would love to have signet of the wild at half its current cooldown and 1/4s cast time the only issue is…

Granted I’m not that heavy in favor of stacking damage buffs on ranger utilities. Seems lazy and narrows build diversity.

I was also referring to synergistic in terms of traits. You should learn to read first before turning yourself into a rabid dog.

Let’s go back to your suggestions, I suggested the shifting the damage increase to hunt because as its name implies, hunt, and therefore should be an offensive signet, if it just break stuns and gives super speed wouldn’t it be similar to quickening zephyr less the quickness?

As for the current signet of the wild, the passive is great for generating extra astral force (unless of course Anet gives us a new way to generate astral force in or out of combat) in pvp and serves as a second source of stab. Would anyone pop this skill for the damage increase? Damage increase on this signet serves little purpose. That’s why I feel that it should be moved away to SotH to make SotH less useless as it is right now.

Your suggestions not only make SotH a clone of QZ and still a mehhh skill you also remove a way for us to generate extra AF while giving it a super buff both offensively and defensively (why would you want to lump everything together onto 1 utility?) that will instant down squishies in wvw and pvp and will eventually invite daily QQs to our forum. Your suggestions have no basis of reasoning and nothing short of personal rants.

If you choose to not discuss constructively, I’ll waste no more time on you.

We’d actually get on par with other classes when it comes to personal performance. That would happen. Of course other classes want us to stay bad. No one wants to lose to a class that has been considered one of the most awful ones for almost 4 years.
If we become at least as powerful as other meta classes, I can get over all the cries and tears of baddies and newbs. That’s a price we all can pay.

Now that we all know that you just want rangers to suck, shall we call it a day and ask you to ignore this thread so other possible ideas how to improve ranger are shared?

You don’t get it too? I would welcome buffs but in a more spread out and synergistic way than dumping everything into one single utility skill. Is that so hard to comprehend? The first page listed many great ideas already then I suggested a breakstun + stab on lower cooldown then came this guy with this kittened idea that no we suck we need everything concentrated into one utility skill so we can leave all the dumb traits untouched. So smart.

10 sec/30 sec= 0.33…

0.3… x25 = 8.3 % damage boost overall.

Basically, the signet is an inferior version of the damage modifier a thief gets from a minor trait that gives them 10% increased damage when a target has conditions.

Best damage modifier a ranger has is a 25% from marksman, assuming no endurance is ever spent and cripple/chill is permanent on a target.

Thief has 10% on a target with ANY condition (far easier to maintain….), 20% against targets under 50% health, 17% increased crit damage from traits (27% against targets above 50% health), 10% additional damage from bounding dodger (given their rate of endurance regen with staff mastery bounding dodger buff has near 100% uptime), 7% increased damage at melee range, another 10% from staff mastery.

So daredevil, with way higher number coefficients and base values than ranger, has:

-47% increased damage modifier vs. the 33.% ranger would have with my suggested Signet of the Wild, which also costs us a far more valuable utility slot vs. a trait slot.

-17-27% crit damage bonus modifier.

But somehow I’m the guy who’s insane just because you’re clueless about the damage and coefficients/modifiers other classes have access to.

This is why rangers are in the garbage state of DPS we’re in, because of people like you.

So, all the while we were talking about changes for utility skills and you decided to derail into damage modifiers in traits. Right.. Totally off topic now.

And get your facts right though I have always lament the fact that we do not have enough personal dps, but Anet gave us party buffs and so we aren’t allowed to have high personal dps, or else it would be too op. Get it?

You would be better off keeping things separate and suggest a buff to traits than to lump everything together into a single utility skill.

That’s backwards. It’s signet of the hunt which should break stuns and grant superspeed.

Signet of the Wild needs passive switched away from that useless 70-80 hp heal into the same power stat boost thieves/necro/warrior get. Make the active a 1/4 sec cast and reduce cd to 30 seconds, increase duration to 10 seconds.

25% extra dmg 5 stacks of stabs on 10 sec duration with a 30 sec cd base. Are you insane?

The only way this would work is if you

1. De-link all worlds from accounts once, and have all players on all accounts have to pick a “new” server (for free) when they first log in post-patch, as if they’re a new acct.

2. RESET all server rankings completely.

3. Lower population caps for all worlds thus forcing players to spread out.

4. Forget and ignore all the “lul my guild on this server and I can’t transfer them to zerg harder”. Its a temporary pain to solve a major issue, and the game will be far healthier overall for it.

Hmm a jubilee huh. This would work very well.

I would love to see a EOTM system where worlds are linked semi-randomly or intentionally based on the population or time zone activity. you can even mix things up like:

This bug is just plain weird. Sometimes Quickdraw triggers sometimes it doesn’t when exiting CAF. And when it doesn’t, swapping weapons will not trigger Quickdraw, the cooldown somehow refreshes.

please give us the active use of a smoke field back. it opens such nice tactics.
there is three good ideas around in this forum which would solve this issue…

1.) make f1 and f3 to attack and come back on one button so we can use f3 as second pet ability, problem on nearly all pets solved.

2.) let us choose between the two pet abilitys which one we want to use on f2 .
as example smokescale between the revenant attack or the smokefield.

3.) create a second smokescale pet, so one can heave the old f2 ability.

smokescale was the best pet ever created, don’t leave it this way.

We have a special command that is unique to rangers, “toggle pet passive/aggressive” and it can be bound to any key. It can function as what you described in 1.) Technically we can free up 3 keys for pet skills.

Bristleback’s sharpen spines and rain of spikes not affected by Beastmaster’s 20% pet skill recharge reduction.

Smokescale’s f2 and takedown not affected by Beastmaster’s 20% pet skill recharge reduction.

Fire wyvern’s skills other than f2 are also not affected by Beastmaster’s 20% pet skill recharge reduction.

I think all the HoT pets need to be looked at.

As a Ranger, there is no reason for me to spec into Druid. I just can’t generate AF fast enough for me to go in Celestial Avatar. Unless I camp in staff, but this is a problem, I am restricted to this one weapon that isn’t good for either condi or power builds. So I am locked into this supportive role with minimal damage output, which means I can’t solo, or I can but it takes a looooong time.

This creates a “separation”. It is either you are a Druid or a Ranger, never both. They are just vastly different in terms of roles and viability in different game modes.

TL;DR – Ranger and Druid are like two separate classes locked to their respective weapon sets.

If you intend to camp longbow then LtW is definitely much better. 20% cooldown means you have access to skills more frequently which translates to higher dps.

The only things that really bother me at the moment are:

  • All 3 Marksmanship minor traits are as good as useless without Remorseless and 1 of them is a forced pet trait.
  • Fortifying Bond is another forced pet trait outside of Beastmastery.

Clarion bond synergizes badly too. Ranger core traits are just.. urrgh.. so poorly implemented.

As to 1, I think Celestial Avatar can last just a little longer and/or may be have a few second of stability of something build into it either by default or as trait.

Tested in wvw large scale fights. Overall impression, lacking too much damage.

Staff – Seems quite fine but I hope staff2 can at least do some small/moderate aoe damage.

Astral Form – Takes too long to charge up unless you are using staff. Needs some AoE damage to be useful.

Cosmic Ray, Seed of Life and Lunar Impact all needs some form of damage.
Cosmic Ray – small damage
Seed of Life – small to moderate damage
Lunar Impact – big damage
Maybe adjust the cooldown a little according to their damage. Their respective AoE is great.

Tidal surge – Well implemented
Natural Convergence – Wish this can be a little faster..

Players felt that WHaO brought ranger up to par with other classes but the dev’s point of view is that WHaO did too much for a single skill usage, which I kind of agree. Would love to see buffs spread across traits/utilities, or simply make druid more offensive.

The biggest thing the core ranger needs is a total pet overhaul. 30% of our dps is trapped in the pet. A mechanic that isn’t reliable with hitting people in pvp, surviving in pve and very clunky to design. Until the pet is fixed the class will always be below average.

Really hope they tone down that 30%(to 20% 15% maybe?) and give it to the ranger, across all weapons.

Since ranger pets are not functioning at the highest efficiency and ranger damage coefficients are calculated to include the pets, what about a grandmaster trait that woudl allow a ranger to exchange their furry/scaly/feathered friend for a % damage boost.

There was a trait in WHO (though maybe I shouldnt mention this, as warhammer was notoriously bad at balancing) for squig herder that allowed them to trade their squigs for a 25% damage boost.

Obviously the numbers wouldn’t be the exact same, but still an idea on how to make the class feel rewarding since any major AI improvement would require a gargantuan amount of time and effort. I would not mind switching out RaO, though that was always my favorite elite.

I would like to see more damage shifted towards the ranger away from the pet, baseline. If our damage is split like 7:3 change it to → 8:2? or 8.5:1.5

I would actually like to see Sic Em apply the buff to the Ranger himself too. And I feel that the current Signet of the Wild is a mess, its passive effect being interval healing and active stab and damage increase??! It just feels all over the place. And do we really need a second source of stability?

Proposed changes:

-Sic Em apply Reveal and gain 25% dmg increase and 50% movement for both pet and ranger (the active effect of Signet of the Wild).

-Signet of the Wild rework to, instant cast and breakstun and gives Resistance of X seconds to both pet and ranger. Passive effect stays the same. (Now we have a source of resistance and this can combo well with……. Signet of Renewal!)

What do you guys think?

So? Even if it’s “on paper”, you must not ignore the fact that you cannot take things into account separately because a lot of skills and traits interact with each other.

Like how you said, cooldown for Zephyr’s Speed is 15sec, so? Do you know pet swap is 16sec? And how do you trigger Zephyr’s Speed other than pet swap?

I also pointed out elsewhere that you have to sacrifice damage for some silly boon stacking, dps food for boon duration food, str rune over scholar runes, spec into both nm and bm and can only have 1 of the rest instead of a combination of them etc. It is detrimental.

Basically, “on paper” is rubbish.

If i offended you I apologize. But if I see mistakes I point them out, and make things clearer for everyone.

And to bring forth my opinion, WHaO allowed easy access to boons and while some boons are broken, it is not exactly a viable way to sacrifice to get perma stacking.

Yeah. My point was there are 16 stax of might that the ranger can maintain without WHaO on a permanent basis.

5 from JG stalker (Naturemagic + Beastmastery = 22s duration on a 20s CD)
3 from Call of the Wild Warhorn (Windborne Notes + Strength runes = 24s duration on a 24s cd)
3 from Clarion Bond (24s duration 24s CD)
2 from Sigil of battle (20s duration on a 9s CD)
3 Zephyr’s Speed (15s duration on a 15s CD)

These are all maintainable with moderate build sacrifice, before using WHaO to double the stax for their duration, meaning you could have had permanent 25 stax of might with the “old” WHaO (or close enough to not matter).

Sort of proved your argument for you, but I’ll butt out if you want…

Sorry no offense but it seems like you don’t play a ranger.

If you want to take into account all these things you cannot do them separately.

If you have Zephyr’s Speed, you are swapping pets it means,
-your Jungle stalker 5 stacks might is on a 32sec cooldown
-Clarion bond is then on a 32 sec cooldown too.

if you are using warhorn 5,
-your sigil of battles are 12 sec cooldown each on average. coz you are waiting for that 24 sec cooldown on warhorn 5

Now it seems to me like all the might duration are shorter than their cooldown now, so no perma 25 stacks.

Not to forget when you are swapping pets to benefit from Zephyr’s Speed your pet loses all its buff. And you get nothing out from WHaO except 3 might and 3sec quickness.

Also, because of varying might duration from the different applications, you don’t get constant x number of stacks.

We are balanced with the pet in mind. The pet happens to be bad in most cases. It misses a lot of the time in pvp, dies fast in pve, and is very unresponsive in general.

When an Ele dishes out several times higher the total amount of damage in a dungeon run/fractal/tequatl .. everything, do we still balance around something that is unreliable? No, we straight up buff the class. Be it raw numbers or a niche way to do it.

WHaO provided that niche, which is a good start but Anet decided to nerf it quickly into oblivion with pathetic duration and stack caps. However OP it seems, WHaO brought Ranger closer to an Ele but still within a distance and arguably on par with other classes. Is this not a good thing?

I agree with you, but remember the devs do not fundamentally know how to design this class.

Nerf Pet damage by a ton. Make them more of a CC/Support option. NEVER for damage. Give damage back to Ranger. Balance and design fun interactions with pet from there.
