Makes me wonder what “playtesting”, “stress testing” and “beta testing” was all about. When the game crashes at the end of 2 hours of endgame content and dumps me in a new map instance with no way to rejoin or get the rewards I worked for there is only one thing that I want to do – Not bother with GW2 anymore, it’s not worth my time.

For Anet not to fix and/or respond is unforgivable.

For them not to mail rewards to dc’d players is equally bad.

That the game has been released with such a massive flaw is beyond understanding.

The biggest Negative Playing Experience of them all!!

And as for the druid being a subclass of the Ranger – what a load of crud.

So basically you want the dungeon rewards for free, while everyone who doesn’t get an endless stream of badges from EOTM farm has to work for it …

How do you figure? Define endless stream? And did I specify a conversion rate?

It’s OK to have ascended items buyable using a variety of currency so why not dungeon tokens? Seems to be the only folks crying would be those who want to “own” dungeon running and selling. Making dungeon tokens accessible to the WvW players would open up the game a little.

Sorry, but the dungeon running boys club needs to end.

I feel completely opposite, I love gw2 and everything about it. (I played gw1 from launch, it was my favorite game of all time) I logged on gw1 a couple weeks ago and now you couldn’t pay me to play it again.

Playstyle? likes and dislikes? Please elaborate.

I don’t think you could do those elite instances in Guild Wars 1 solo with heroes. For one thing, heroes didn’t even exist for the first two years the game was out. When they did come out, you could only take 3 with you.

I’m thinking it would be nigh on impossible to do The Deep or Urgoz’s Warren with three heroes. Henchmen couldn’t enter elite areas, and using 7 heroes wasn’t allowed until much much later in the game’s life cycle.

You can “solo” and I mean solo parts of the UW and Fissure – capping a Black Widow or farming ectos and shards is perfectly doable solo.

You can also do the 1st level of The Deep with 3 henchies if you want to farm zodiac skins etc.

The thing is, with GW1 you had the option – solo, henchies, PUG, guildies.

Moreover, I don’t find the living story very challenging. And achievements that are sort of grindy or frustrating aren’t what we need, either, but that also seems like the direction ANET is going in. GW1’s hard mode was just that: Hard. In some areas, it was ruthlessly hard. And yet, the content was still soloable for the casuals and fun to fly through for the organized groups. But best of all, the content was worth repeating because the rewards in hard mode were profitable. Why should I do dungeon content and go through the stress of finding a group (not to mention gearing for a dungeon which isn’t cheap) when the rewards are lackluster? Why repeat the LS content at all only to complete some uninspired achievements?

Man, talking about this really makes me mad. I’d play GW1 because it was fun, not for any kind of aesthetic rewards. And you know? I actually got almost all of those rewards anyway as a simple biproduct of just playing the game. Unfortunately, in GW2 the best rewards are the lamest most boring grinds I’ve ever done (foxfire clusters or saving gold for precursors, anyone?).

Hit the nail on the head!!

For 7 years GW1 stayed fun for the most part. Despite Anet throwing around nerfs there was still enough flexibility and depth to allow players to develop new builds and adapt.

GW2 doesn’t have that. No depth, no variation, just grind, rinse, repeat.

Sorry, I stand by my original statement, GW2 isn’t working. Diminishing player numbers, pointless cosmetic updates, a very poor skill/trait system and an advancement system that bears no resemblance to anything RPG ever, makes GW2 a pale shadow of its predecessor. ANet has failed to deliver on its own manifesto. They need direction from gamers and not from profiteers who think that the gem store is their cash cow and care about little else.

For me, I found that GW2 is considerably less gated, restricted and grindy.

Hang on… either GW2 is “rich in RP” as a previous poster said, or it isn’t. When did you ever play an RPG that wasn’t gated? Anet made the mistake of dumbing things down in GW1 too. Not everyone wants the log in – kill stuff – log out – quick fix. If I wanted a FPS or 3PS then I’d go out and buy one.

ALL RPGs are gated… level progression, gear progression etc. are all part of the RPG genre.

Grind for progression – good thing. Grind for cosmetics – very bad thing!

Look at Gw2 pets? Seriously, a juvenile pet that never, ever grows up – seriously? GW1 pets were WAY superior!

Sorry, but a personal like of GW1 or not, I’m a gamer, a playtester and have been a developer in the past and GW1 is simply a superior experience. It has the odd NPE (please look it up if you don’t know the term) but Gw2 is riddled with them. My only conclusion is that GW2 has been developed by a bunch of folks who are neither gamers or RPGers – which, after all the community interaction that drove GW1 and the hopes for a sequel, is totally gobsmacking!

And no, compared to GW1 it’s population and longevity, GW2 is NOT working. You only have to compare the number to see that, no matter how much you love GW2.

They are completely separate games. The feel, the goals, the systems… there is really nothing “similar” in the games, aside from the lore.

Talking about transitioning things from GW1 to GW2 just seems like a bad idea to me. GW2 has taken on a life of it’s own. It isn’t “the sequel to GW1”, instead it’s “that MMO that relies heavily on dodging and combat that actually makes realistic sense”.

Very much agree – thing is, what were the GW1 player base expecting out of GW2? A totally separate game or a sequel which took the best of the original and brought it “up-to-date”.

Did the GW1 player base want GW2 or a WoW knock off?

In GW2 you basically choose which weapon you want to play, – and that’s pretty much the build. (Calling things “builds” in this game, actually kind of sickens me)

GW1 pve was essentially a collection of missions, think personal story/combined with dungeons that all moved the plot forward, at every single step.

GW1 skill system, if you didnt use the cookie cutters, was highly unique. You could get totally, and i mean totally different playstyles for one proffesion.

GW1 world, revolved around the narrative for each area.

QFT.

I’m a Gwamm with a 50/50 HoM.

And?

I understand that this is a forum and that we are all entitled to our opinion, but as a GW1 vet, please remember that there are plenty of us playing GW2 and enjoying ourselves. Keep that in mind next time you see a God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals title in GW2.

And I wonder, how many like me, are not enjoying ourselves?

That might make an interesting poll for Anet.

I was under the impression that your initial post (and this post) conveyed that Guild Wars players would relate to your issues with Guild Wars 2. So, some people that played Guild Wars (including me) typed that they cannot relate (in a few cases, not entirely).

Seems like many GW players DO relate to my opinions. No doubt some will and some won’t. What is more important perhaps is that ANet needs to be listening to all opinions and perhaps, shouldn’t have advertised GW2 as being a sequel for GW1 – it isn’t.

The community and ANet should be focussed on making GW2 better – and not simply accepting a half- kitten d job where the focus seems to be on the trivial. e.g. did any of us really expect GW2 to be dominated by TP economics and insider trading? I don’t remember GW1 really struggling due to a lack of a TP – heaven forbid players actually had to trade with each other… oh my!

GW2 is not an MMORPG. It is, maybe a MMOFPS. There is no RPG in GW2 because there is no freedom to create anything other than cookie cutter toons. And at that there is a desire to make all classes the same. Take away the holy-trinity and every toon just becomes same old same old.

GW1 had WAY more RPG to it, way more Co-op and WAY more community.

How about skill choices that allow us to build characters not clones?

How about Trait lines that make any sort of sense?

How about henchies/heroes that allow players to do dungeons when they want to and to use the class/builds they want rather than be excluded by the so called “LEET”.

How about a drop system that actually works.

How about something more than grinding for cosmetics?

How about an end-game?

How about an expansion?

GW1 induces feelings, GW2 is just becoming a flat, bore-fest.

Both feet, multiple times.

The skill & trait system is simply awful, dis-organised, illogical and turns every toon into a clone of every other. Build variation is practically zero and just gives the impression that no one gave one second of thought to what they were doing.

I have to wonder what the hell the alpha and beta testers and those taking feedback were doing?

So I logged back into my GW1 account yesterday, just to have a potter about for old times sake.

Did a few “solo” runs including some of the old stuff that I developed for the Ranger’s Beacon in The Jade Sea and The Deep.

Grabbed henchies and heroes and had a few bashes at dropping a froggy sceptre.

Took some folks on a guided tour of the Fissure

Went and capped a Black Widow solo – just because I could.

and then something stopped me in my tracks. I realised that I cared about my toons, felt connected to them. They had a personality and playing the game was FUN!

More than that, I could play GW1 in various styles and no part of the game world was “off limits” or restricted.

And that’s where GW2 has failed. Sure it looks pretty, but there simply isn’t the connection, my toons have no personality and the game is an un-ending grind for cosmetic skins, short term FPS “shoot and scoot” mentality and Anet wasting effort on trivial “improvements” rather than letting players PLAY in a style that suits them.

Sad that after such a short time GW2 has become a pale imitation of its predecessor.

Enough is Enough

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Have to say that the GW2 manifesto has proven to be a complete fraud. GW2 isn’t a patch on GW1 and I have no compulsion to keep grinding. The trait/skill system is shockingly bad, rewards/drops are ludicrous and the game is totally focussed on a drop in/drop out style of play – that isn’t an MMO or RPG it’s an FPS.

I still find more challenge and interest doing a FoW or UW run in GW1 than ANYTHING GW2 has to offer.

And yet what Anet think we want is a wardrobe, hairstyles and endless repetitive grind.

GW2 is bleeding to death…. perhaps it’s time to take Yeller out to the barn…

Suggestion: Dungeon Tokens

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: notorious bob.2061

notorious bob.2061

OP has a valid point. IMHO the problem originates with a poorly thought out “exotic” weapon/armour tree that every tweak to is going to h onk someone or other off.

Just coz you are in a guild who run dungeons doesn’t make you LEET.

There’s nothing 1337 about zerg farming champions.

Achievements are supposedly the way that the game recognises progression.. so why only WvW badges in reward chests?

A conversion to dungeon tokens actually makes a lot of sense. Sure some people would QQ coz they grinded out tokens but hey, I ground out charged lodestones and 500 Tears for Aether and it isn’t even a legendary, ascended or anything else.

For players who don’t dungeon run, an exchange rate with badges would be a good option.

Before you assume that you won’t be fighting horses of monsters or face difficult challenges, I urge you to try the content when it releases. Just because its a festival doesn’t mean we’re telling the same story or using the same type of content.

It’s been the same stuff over and over again so far, so why should we expect it to change. “politics” took it to the extreme of forcing players to play mini-games to get the achievements which is nonsense. I simply don’t want to be forced to play mini-games or PvP style arenas – that’s not new content – it’s just rehashing king of the hill and capture the flag.

Right now, GW2 isn’t a sequel to Guild Wars – it’s a poor shadow of it’s progenitor.

It was an exploit.

I do hope you’re being sarcastic? An exploit?

Seems to be that these kindof balls-ups by Anet only hurt the casual players. The hardcore out there identify the opportunity early, are all over it like a rash and usually don’t share it with the general public.

The casual players use the “services” as intended and then get royally screwed over when Anet realise the mistake and swing the nerf bat.

I personally have enough commendations put back for 10 BLKs – yes 10. Wow, big deal Anet. But you screw me over because you create an opportunity for the hardcore to buy 1000s!

Why isn’t anyone THINKING!!!! e.g. you can only purchase 1 BLK per day perhaps – limit the amount that can be exchanged rather than hammer the casual players.
