2 months from now and i predict the matches to be 5 guardians versus 5 guardians, which is the epitome of a self balancing game.
if you 5 hooligans cant coordinate enough damage to focus someone down then i dont think its the comp thats the issue ^^

Arena’s were the death of WoW’s pvp. ide prefer them not to put into GW. they way that they have it set up at the moment is fine. if there had to be a death match mode, then ide prefer it to be fps style for to 40 kills in 8v8 and such. but not arena.

combat was simple in wow, but other mmos seem to have a very hard time making it feel right.
as of now, if you touched any enemy, you’ll stya in combat until they die. or at least thats how it feels

Only if you can only view your own totals, otherwise it becomes like Rift where everyone was just trying to get the big numbers on the scoreboard.
And what’s wrong with that? It’s fun!
Now mind you, I can see two problems with this.
One is that people could start berating folks on their team for failing to contribute enough. This was a notorious problem in WoW raids. However, I don’t think its a problem here because the PvP isn’t even server specific, so you hardly ever see the same people again. Furthermore, whatever folks want to do this kind of thing already seem to do it based on the scores we’re currently provided with.
The other is that some people might start playing for the high score instead of playing for the objectives, but once again, folks already do this about as badly as they could ever be expected to, so there’s nothing to lose.
In TOR, I was one of the best gunslingers on my server and it was always fun to find myself in a warzone with another really good gunslinger and try to get the top DPS. I’m a highly objective oriented player, so I never sacrificed playing the map correctly to aim for the DPS, which made it all the more fun to get the high score (which I did most of the time
)
It also made those matches more bearable where you wound up on an awful team or were getting stomped, since even though as one person there wasn’t a whole lot I could do to change the outcome of an 8v8 alone, I could still aim for the top score between the two teams.
I’d love to be able to have these same kinds of experiences in this game.

Pistol Whip – 0 skill required to use. Forces Stun Breakers Dodges once target is out Pistol Whip finishes the job. 1 Skill that has a stun and great channel damage tied to it. Put it on a cooldown 15 seconds at least.
Phantasm build – Stupidy knows no doubt as pets do too much damage over its life time. Killing them is not an option. Low cooldowns. Mesmer kites / LOSes let the pets do all the work. Is this a joke? if it is – a poor made one.
100 Blades – lawl?
Seriously some classes have to work really hard to be effective in PvP while other classes can just win with gimmicky mechanics. How did this get to live?
all of these points you mentioned are easily countered and honestly not that big of an issue.

Yet the only PvP balance change they’ve made so far is in direct response to “baddy whiners.”
thieves should not be able to crit somebody with full hp for 6k with one move that is also a gap closer.
and thiefs are still perfectly playable…
I think it was fairly balanced, then they nerfed HS simply to respond to unwarranted crying. The move was never OP, and I actually never “spammed” it on my thief. It was a utility skill that was only worth the initiative cost because it also did some decent damage. Now it’s not worth the initiative cost because it does very low damage.
But that’s a different topic. My concern here is not about the HS ability, it’s about the apparently knee-jerk reactionary balancing. If you’re just going to let the most vocal whiners balance the game for you, then PvP in GW2 is going to be a hot mess of unplayability.

as if people right now arn’t just trying to farm points by stacking 5 on a node to get the 10 points while the other bases are being lost.
people are going to stat kitten no matter what, dont punish the people who want to use the system to better themselves because of the stat kittens to contribute nothing to the game.
also for example you play a good team in a tourney, your losing. you want to know why you are losing and which player on the enemy team is doing the most damage. this helps also.

You should be able to intuitively feel how well you are doing in a given game or with a certain prof.
Sure number can help you min max, but this style of SPvP is more about placement and skill and correct ability usage than maxing that extra 200 DPS out.
so your saying i should have to count my damage? yeah ill just go back to WoW or ToR. Dont make such black and white responses. Damage meters would be a very strong addition to min maxing builds, and telling which classes are OP/UP
currently the score system promotes point whoring and zerging. adding more stats to the scoreboard really has no downside.
I wouldn’t care so much for damage but I would like a healing one. Considering this game doesn’t have dedicated healers per say I would like to know what I’m contributing if I’m attempting to do so.
so what your saying is a game that doesnt have healers needs a healing done tab more than a damage done tab?

Focus has very many uses. You’re talking about utility, well how about dragging people off the walls of a tower in WvWvW?
Find the sword to be quite hilarious as well since the swordsman does double the damage of the pistol guy if you’re power specced.
Really suggest you try to move away from the straight cookiecutter builds and try to learn to survive without relying on certain cds. Helps a lot.
the swordsman misses more, stacks less bleeds, has a shorter range, and overall has less potential damage than the duelist depending on crits.
also WvW doesnt count towards anything, and they are cookie cutter because they are the best.

you’ll never die with the staff out, youre enemies will die with the sword/pistol out.
stack phatasm damage. stack stun break utilities. keep your endurance low, blend with your illusions.

you try winning tourney games with all mesmers and thiefs and see how that goes for you. naturally classes are going to be more popular in the 8v8 zergfest that is sPvP, but in tournies class and team balance are much more important.
why do people immediately reject this idea because it may promote the bashing of players. Who cares what that person thinks? Ignore them? I dont care if someone calls me out.
i need to see my damage in comparison to other players damage so i can benchmark myself, my class, and the players im playing with.
yes this may promote bashing other players, but HOW is it any different then being bashed on for having a low point score?

you carebears who immediately think of how this may negatively effect you, and then decide that the chance of someone calling you out for low damage/healing is worth depriving the community of a simple and effective way of benchmarking classes and players?

Most games have a total damage or healing dealt on the scoreboard for battlegrounds. This game does not. Knowing my damage is very important for me when valuing the class and spec that im playing. it makes testing builds easier, it also makes pvping just that much more fun.
also dueling would be nice.
these seem like really easy features that should be thrown in with the patch.
