Currently they are bugged, and you need to do the story instance on the same character you already had done it to see these items/characters. Not different characters.
You haven’t unlocked the collection. There are two requirements for those items. You need the machined “weapon” collection.
Welcome to the Engi and Legendary weapons. If they don’t break, they never worked in the first place, and if they don’t work, don’t expect to see any fixes any time soon. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they took away the quicksilver swing from the hammer auto attack even, considering they took away the confetti from throwing grenades.
This was literally the first thing I thought of when I saw the release date. I mean it is cool and all that they are releasing in two months, but we haven’t seen Forge and considering the amount of bugs in the BASE engi class that have been there for a long time and continually gets added to, this completely seems like we are going to get an elite spec that is as buggy as a spider web. Even worse if the little drones are yet another bad AI thing that is going to die quickly and break twelve other abilities on engi. I mean how many traits do we have that just completely break being able to queue skills up, at least two?
I mean, what other class do you have to go to the forums to read the bugs section to know oh hey I can’t even use this trait because it does nothing currently, or it makes it harder to play.
Anyone else holding onto a stock pile of gems in case they actually give us Belinda’s Greatsword skin in the gem store again during this massive anniversary sale?
Here’s hoping!
All I ever see from this forum is whining. It’s kind of sad. Elementalist can do everything well already. They are a solid class by themselves. The only option arenanet had to go anywhere with an elite spec for elementalist is offering a different playstyle. And don’t say it isn’t a different play style, needing to stay in one attunement for 5+ secs before overload starts and then it locking that attunement stresses more single attunement gameplay. Then you have the warhorn skills, which finally give air and water offhand actual damaging skills, and present utility in the offhand instead of damaging skills in fire and earth.
The reason no current MAIN elementalist player likes this elite spec is because it is a completely different playstyle than you are used to for years.
Everyone keeps saying it is trash, but every single person who has said that they just shouldn’t release the tempest elite spec hasn’t offered any alternatives that aren’t just insanely broken because every elementalist player just expects to get the very best. There is a reason elementalist and warrior are two of the MOST played classes. They were solid classes by themselves. So what honestly do you add? Are you just being whiny because they are adding warhorn instead of a sword or something? Or is it more that you wanted an incredibly broken elite spec that every elementalist would have to roll if they wanted to be competitive.
Elite specs by their very nature are supposed to offer more choices and playstyles. Just look at Dragonhunter. If they took away some of the supporty elements from dragonhunter, it would be the furthest playstyle you could get away from Guardian. Do you know the people most interested in dragonhunter, it isn’t the main guardians.
I’m sorry but, just because YOU don’t like this current elite specialization, and maybe plenty of other people don’t either. Doesn’t mean there aren’t people who like it. It’s different. And different means that more people will go to elementalist. The people who didn’t really enjoy playing the base line elementalist because of random things here and there like constantly having to switch attunements every three seconds, or lack of real damaging abilities in anything but earth and fire attunements.
And when it comes down to it. Just because you don’t like this one, doesn’t mean it should be pushed away and stalled. If you are willing to wait for something, then wait for the NEXT elite specialization and let people have this one.
Lightning orb was one of my favorite abilities, together with lightning javelin from guild wars 1. But Lightning Orb is way different in this game. It was a hard hitting attack on a single enemy. This new lightning orb IS hard hitting especially with the recent 36% damage buff, against a single enemy, but only if that is the only enemy around, which let’s face it. There isn’t many situations where that happens, even in pve.
I would love to see something more like what the revenant’s shield 4 skill is. You target an area, the orb goes to that area, doing damage on the way there and then blasting the area you targeted with a big hit and knocking down or dazing anyone hit by it. But its unlikely to see a change like this, this late in the game.

I can say from personal experience that Quip is just as broken. No effect with aim-assisted rocket, and the aura/footsteps tend to break randomly and just not exist on the character but this isn’t the case on my non-engineer. I think it might have something to do with kits? That’s all I can really think of that would make it so my aura/footsteps are always there with mesmer quip but not with engineer quip.
After some further testing with my mesmer using the Quip I’ve discovered this appears to only be a thing with my engineer. As to why that is the case I have no clue yet. While my mesmer wielded quip the aura and footsteps were there every time.
So I’ve done search commands to see if I could find any posts about this and I couldn’t which makes me wonder if it is just something on my end.
Anyway, I just recently managed to make Quip, its my first legendary, so I don’t have any other legendaries to compare to it. But I’ve noticed something regularly with it. Every once in a while when I draw my weapon the purple aura just isn’t there. It’s not like its faded since I know auras aren’t as strong during the day, it just isn’t there. No purple mist.
To add to this the confetti steps that occur while I have Quip equipped don’t always seem to go off. It’s random but I could go hundreds of steps with confetti and then 50 steps without it, then 2 steps with confetti and then 100 without them.
Is this something common with the legendaries and their auras/effects? Or something common and specific to Quip? Or is it just something on my end, or maybe because I have other effects on my character such as the purple mist glow from chaos gun in my offhand or the purple mist glow from Mawdrey?
I really hope Arena net has realized they NEED to fix reaper shouts. Because its such a huge slap in the face to show us reaper then right after show us Shiro revenant that gets an elite skill that takes 1 sec to cast and causes 3 secs of stun and has no cooldown though based on energy cost would take about 10-15 secs to cast again.
Then we see the ele shouts which do the same amount no matter how many targets they hit and have a better cast time overall. I mean if they are releasing the ele shouts with those kinds of numbers they MUST HAVE changed the reaper shouts since and just haven’t said anything. I say that but, that probably isn’t the case and once again necro will get the shaft.
I completely agree with the blast finisher on sand squall. I mean out of all the off hand weapons you would think warhorn would get a blast finisher and yet there are none? It just seems appropriate to put it on sand squall. A whirl finisher would also be cool like on the air skill cyclone. That way over all you are looking at a water field, a fire field, a blast finisher and a whirl finisher all in a different attunement each.
Also feel like the trait line needs a lot of improvement. Some of it is either super powerful or utterly useless. Its weird. Tempest reveal makes me feel the opposite of chronomancer reveal. I LOVE the trait line of chronomancer, but don’t care for the shield skills at all. I hate the trait line of tempest, but LOVE the warhorn skills. I have been wanting more offensive offhand air skills for so long, and even the water warhorn skills look fun to use!
Main things I’m looking for in fixes/changes to Tempest:
- Blast finisher on Sand Squall. This would cement the overall use of warhorn for me. The other skills in this set are amazing, but Sand Squall feels a bit lacking. I would say the same for Heat Sync, but I think if they just upped the might gain on it slightly it would function well.
- Traits. They are all mostly terrible. I mean really. Most noticeable thing I took away from the trait line… heals with aura sharing and breaking stun when CCed with the air shout. They just feel so lack luster. Like it feels like going down that tempest line is pretty much solely for being able to use warhorn and attunement overloads, or some water aura sharing build and that’s about it. What happened to the whole choosing three themes through the traits like with the reaper or chronomancer traits? These just kind of feel all over the place.
Actually the traits feel a lot like what the traits were before the change. Like you had one trait for 20% reduced cooldown on air attunement skills, and now in this line you have 20% reduced cooldown on JUST overloads.
I feel like the traits mostly need to be reworked a lot. Like why not do a ‘Elemental’ Conduit. That provides a boon while channeling an overload based on the attunement you are overloading. Swiftness with air, protection with earth, etc. Then put unstable conduit as the replacement minor from combining the swiftness/protection with overloading.
With latent stamina… why only water? This seems like a water attunement skill. I mean its the only trait in the entire tree that specifically references a single attunement. Why not apply vigor in a radius when attuning to an element? Keep the 10 sec cooldown.
Add a 20% reduction to shouts cooldown to temp aria.
Earthen Proxy, change to something like 20% effectiveness to all boons applied to you. Heck considering the builds and boon sharing in this set, why not make it all boons you apply are 10% more effective? Just protection, on myself it really really lame.
Harmonius conduit is… okay. I don’t know what to recommend for this one. It’s not great but its not completely terrible.
Imbued melodies, even with an aoe around you, is absurd in PVP and relatively boring and blah anywhere else. Generally in close quarters if your allies got stunned, you probably did too, which means you can’t take advantage of this unless you took the air shout trait, and by taking the air shout trait you have already cleared the stun for everyone else too… so this seems pointless.
Where is the boon aspect for traits? You give us two skills on warhorn that interact with boons on allies but then NO TRAITS that interact in the same way? More like the apply vigor to allies when attuning to water and gaining endurance when applying vigor to allies.
Why not something like apply might when attuning to fire, and protection when attuning to earth to nearby allies. What about when you apply an aura to an ally you extend the boons on that ally by 2 seconds or 20% or something like that?
Overall, I love the overloads, and I love the warhorn skills. The traits need work and the shouts are kinda blah but not terrible like the reaper shouts so it works. I can already see a really strong aura sharing disable build with air/water/tempest lines.
