[SUGGESTION] Design a Weapon/Armor Contest
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Designing armor would be awesome. I’d take most of the armor we have now, cut off the skirt/coat, and watch as the votes start pouring in.
Also, I’d bring back armor like this:

The line that keeps being used is “We hear what the community is asking for”. That actually makes matters worse because they hear us but they just don’t actually care what we think.
And impartial observer would’ve noted that revamping the loot pinatas we call world bosses was something many players asked for, me included. Didn’t a recent thread about making the open world harder get upvoted?
People have been asking for things like player housing, new races/skills, gvg, better armor choices, more WvW updates, polymock, precursor crafting/scavenger hunt, new legendaries, guild halls, and other things far more than just making Tequatl behave slightly differently.
Does the system favor party/guild members over random other players?
The armor design department has been in hiding since beta.
Legendaries as a whole are very lackluster. The underwater weapons are much nicer than the land ones (especially the spear) but since they require the same amount of mats and you are underwater for a fraction of the time… just doesn’t feel worth it.
And yes, staff is definitely very polarizing. You either love it or hate it and not much inbetween.
You make lots of interesting points. However i have eight(8) level 80 characters and plan on a ninth. Some of us simply just don’t have the time to keep grinding.
The more account based stuff the better in my opinion.
I as well. And I have a hard time narrowing my “mains” down to even 2 or 3. I don’t have the time or energy to grind the same things multiple times. It really sucks the fun out of an activity to lose your progress and start over again (multiple times).
Thieves have had to deal with skill queue-ing since launch.
The game has done a complete 360 from how it was presented pre-launch. Most of us were under the impression that the game promoted alts and only horizontal (cosmetic) progression. This couldn’t be farther from the truth now.
CoF runs: 4g per hour on average and is the most efficient way to make gold by farming currently.
Dusk drop randomly: 650g
Your random lucky drop just saved you over 162 hours of pure farm grind compared to someone else. No risk, no investment, no addition skill or time required.
Yeah, that design is really conducive for fun…. for about .1% of the playerbase.
Personally, I really like one-time skins. They are just cosmetic and it’s a good way to show prestige for vets of the game in a few years.
It was the only thing not addressed in the stream or the blog posted. They didn’t mention what stat allocation it was changing to. I’m assuming Assassin’s (formerly Explorer) but it could just as well be Traveler’s or Pillager’s. Is there any other stats it could change to that I’m not thinking about?
Moving to investing: What kind of price spike will it have once the patch hits, if any? I purchased some and the price has increased slightly already, but will it increase even more?
I am absolutely livid right now. I don’t even have words for how mad I am.
Arena Net hates pants. You can tell this is true by looking at the armor options.
You think you’ll like it, anyway. We haven’t actually experienced it yet.
Well, it’s always great to be optimistic, it helps a lot in experiences.
Optimism leads to disappointment.
this exists from the very begging of the game…certain alpha testers took info advantage in forging precursors based on certain weapon combination.
I was “wondering” in a recent post the same, since it is getting more obvious this information “leak”
I’ve noticed this occurrence since the beginning as well. I mean, every beta tester that knew how legendaries worked/were made of was making tons of money because they bought everything while it was cheap, because no one else knew yet. Just imagine how much crazy amount of gold will be able to be made if you knew what the recipes of future legendaries involved.
The most apparent way to see that stealth is currently broken is how a player can use stealth to leave fights they are losing. Thieves can also insta-gib an enemy without the enemy even knowing there was a fight to begin with.
One of these is tolerable. Both is completely frustrating to play against.
Guess it’s time to remove all the friends on the “wrong” continent from the friends list then since we won’t be playing any GW2 together.
Basically you changed the name from “Free Server Transfer” to “Guesting” and called it news. :/
Yeah, basically. Except worse, but cause we have to pay to play with people in another region and can only do it once a week (even after paying).
How bout give everyone equal stats and let skill and effort decide who deserves to win/move through content?
Because, generally speaking, those games tend to turn away far more people than they keep. They can be beautiful, wonderful games . . . but if people can’t play them then they won’t.
Not everyone likes carrot and stick game play. Just because that’s the current ‘generic’ doesn’t mean it has to be.
Not against the rules, I don’t think. But it’s definitely not supported. So if you get scammed, that’s on you.
Also, please don’t spam map chat. Maybe say it ONCE. Any more than that and you’re just being a kitten.
Why not restrict sending mail to only your friends to stop gold selling spam?
I will say the same thing that I always say when these threads pop up. There’s this thing that comes with the game called the EULA. You click on it and agree to its terms when you first run the game.
According to that EULA, you agree not to exploit. And, you agree that your account can be terminated/banned at any time without notice for violation of the rules. That is your warning. It was given when you read the EULA (you read it, right?)
You can moan about it all you want, but you agreed to those terms. It’s a done deal. Don’t exploit.
I don’t think you’ve read this thread.
I completely with the OP. Not telling citizens the law and then punishing them based off of these mysterious hidden rules is inherently unfair. Just saying “Don’t commit crimes!” doesn’t count. What exactly are the crimes I shouldn’t commit?
Typically the higher the cost of the item, the slower the market.
Possibly. Possibly not.
Guys would you please stop whining about ascended gear as you are doing it way too soon. The stat difference between exotics and ascended it very small, therefore no need to get them if you don’t feel like it. Also, people are talking about having to “grind fractals”. there are 9 different fractals with about each having multiple paths. Lets say you would have to play to level 15 to get ascended ring (by then you would also have the mats/gold to get ascended backpack btw). That would be 45 fractals + 7 times the jade boss. So about 5 times per fractal. To get full set of dungeon armor you have to play each path more than 5 times. Also, a fractal takes 10-30 min to play with a PUG, dungeon run takes at least twice that. So it really is not any more grind than if you want dungeon armor set.
Another point. You all want skill to matter, not gear. Fractals level 1-9 is the place where this is the fact. More than anywhere else in PvE. In each fractal you have to work with your team. If you are skilled, you can be the guy who makes the team work (saving everyone when you are wiping, or being the kitten who just outdamages the enemies. Here you have to be able to stay out of red circles. It helps if you can follow what the bosses are doing. In swamp you need 3 guys to take right skills and know what to do. In dredge fractal you need everyone to have good idea what they have to do.
Ascended gear was and is a thing gear grinders can look forward to. It add’s a lot to do and lot of challenges to them. If you don’t want to grind, you still don’t have to. No1 outside fractals requires you to have ascended gear. It doesn’t help.
Last but not least I want you to think this, whether you agree or not:
ascended gear might not be the perfect way to work as a middle way from grinding exos to grinding legendary, but if you screw the ascended gear, fractals are a great way to work towards legendary (farming ectos for example).
You are exactly the problem.
This can be turned around to “pure skill based games” like MOBA. Not everyone likes those either. And FPS games like TF2, much the same. I meet people who absolutely abhor chess, and that’s as close to pure skill as you can get.
Also, I can perhaps see the carrot you’re talking about, but where’s the stick?
And some people DO like carrots on sticks. Just because you don’t, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be.
If you like gear grind EVERY other MMO was designed for you. If you don’t like the gear treadmill, what MMO do us players have? It was supposed to be GW2.
Because these ranks offer skills, they pretty much have to be character bound. I mean think about it.
Do you level your necro to get skills for your warrior? Do you level your guardian to get skills for your thief? Of course not.
Once skills were part of the package, it’s not unlike any other type of character progression.
You are completely right. Gold should also be character bound. How dare MY warrior be able to spend the money that MY elementalist made. That’s basically like fraud.
Skills are not gold. No matter how much money you have on your tenth level ele, he can’t wear 15th level gear. Bad analogy and misleading on your part.
But what if you had all your traits available to you as a level 5 guy. That would change the game significantly, which is more what we’re talking about.
Minor traits are passive. These are passive. Minor traits are character bound. You don’t get trait points for all your characters. These are WvW traits.
It would make no sense for a character to get a bonus on the traits you earned on another character.
People are simply greedy for power. They want more. It’s human nature. But that doesn’t make it right for the game.
Professions skills =/= WvW passive buffs.
An elementalist will never have a clone shatter trait. And elementalist will have +5 supply.
These buffs are designed to work with any profession. Just like gold.
Also your last sentence literally makes no sense and makes it seems like you are trolling me. Are you trolling me? Cause it seems like you are trolling me. People want more power? What in the world are you talking about? No one asked for these buffs and mostly importantly no one is asking for them for free. What people are asking for is when you earn something that it shouldn’t be artificially held back from you just because you have an alt. I can use gold that I earned on one character on another. That is literally the exact same concept. Same as dungeon tokens.
That’s the sign of a poorly designed event.
A well-designed event should cater to the people who play for fun, the people who play for a challenge, and the people who play for loot. It sounds like this one isn’t properly designed for distributing loot, so it’s running into problems.
The solution is to adjust the event so that it provides adequate rewards in all stages, so that people don’t want to lose that territory to the centaurs or what-have-you.
This is exactly right.
68 chests later, not a single kittening ticket.
850+ lvl80 rares later, not a single precursor/profit of any kind.
150+ lvl 30+ fractal runs later, not a single kittening fractal weapon.
What the kitten is the kittening point in trying when half the kitten in this game is all RNG and luck based?
If you’re lucky, you get it in first few tries. If you’re unlucky, well good luck spending a year and possibly never getting what you’re trying to get.
I’M GETTING SICK WITH ALL THIS RNG BULLKITTEN IN THIS GAME!!! THIS IS GETTING TIRING AND IS REALLY STARTING TO KITTEN ME OFF.
Not sick enough, apparently.
A one time fee would also cost them revenue.
Think about it. If a server transfer costs say $20. Even if they upped it to a one time fee of $100 to switch indefinitely between data centers on a timer, people would be switching as often as they were allowed.
What are you even on about? Guesting. Allows you to swap out to play with other PvE’rs forever for free. They said they can’t allow guesting across regions because of technical limitations with out the guesting system works.
Transferring does not have that same limitation. So allowing transferring for free across regions only (with WvW locked) solves this problem. You would still have to pay to switch servers in your region or to be able to play WvW on another server.
The goal of a game should not be to suck less than the competition.
if we get max stats too easily people complain there is nothing left to do.
remember what happened shortly after launch?
There are other ways to provide content than higher stats. In fact, ascended gear IS NOT actual content. It’s time-gated, pseudo content to give us something to keep logging in daily until they release expansions for us to buy.
The funniest thing is that we still do not have any comments on this issue by Anet. I finished my monthly sPvP in the beginning of March (like any other regular pvp player, got no laurels of course) and today I helped some guildmates to do the same, only for those 16 achievement points. And guess what…they all got their 10 sPvP laurels (on top of their 10 from monthly PvE), as a bonus reward for being non active pvp players. On the other hand, if you are proactive, you get nothing. Anet, this is so lame and unfair. Fix it, asap.
They usually don’t respond to situations like this for a while, if at all. They try and wait until people have forgot about it and calmed down then say something like “Nothing we can do about. Enjoy your free stuff, lucky ones.”
Once you realize that it’s just an artificially gated time-sink to hold you over until actual content is introduced, you get really upset at first and then learn to accept that there’s nothing you can do about it.
Completely agree. This would make asking for help from guild members much less of a chore because they will have way more options (alts) to actually use the gear from that dungeon then they do with just 1 character allowed to benefit from their hard work.
Also it will help keep the grind more interesting sense you can experience the runs with different playstyles without doubling your required effort (by forcing us to work for two separate versions of the same currency when only 1 weapon/armor set is desired).
Any of the monk pants set would be awesome. I also really liked Kurzick Warrior armor. Necro had some really cool pant options as well.
This game uses WAY too many dresses, butt skirts, and trenchcoats.
This sounds like a much better solution since we can still see the dots on the map for allies. Lowering ally based particle effects could also reduce the work load of the game by a lot. Just keep white circles on the ground. That’s all we need to see really.
Adding the holy trinity and raiding would totally crown this game as king of the MMOs (imho ofc), then throw in some goals (DAoC style) to WvW, while removing the repair bill in WvW and it would just be heaven.
This is already the best MMO out atm, but it could grab more players if it used the WoWisk style raids and dungeons, the dungeons clearly arn’t working as thought when the forums are full of players upset about dying so much in every instance. The “everyone’s a DPSer” was a good idea, but it clearly isn’t doing much in the fun department when it’s nothing but die and run back, die and run back.
Some way of adding in trinity style play a bit more may work, we already have the heavy armour classes and some healer elements, and after all, there is no reason not to cover all the bases, making everyone out there happy?
Or do we only play to the call of the choosen few?
If that’s how you play dungeons, no wonder you want it the archaic (easy) way. You could just stand in one spot and button mash. I don’t foresee you sticking with this game for long unless they dumb it down a lot.
The problem is for people that want to be able to obtain new content that the company provides. There is no other way to obtain it other than RNG. Therefore, if players want the experience they must gamble. They can’t even trade to get it.
People love to use the lottery or casino comparison as justification. But that’s a device that’s sole purpose is to gamble and to gamble for money.
GW2’s sole purpose isn’t to gamble. And the gambling we are talking about isn’t for money, it’s for virtual goods.
So a better comparison would be: Imagine going into a shop at the mall and wanting to buy the cool clothes in there, except that there are no price tags. You must pay money just to be able to roll three 20 sided dies. If they all land on 20 you get to the shirt or jeans or whatever. If not, you don’t anything at all.
I wonder how long that shop would stay in business. I wouldn’t shop there. I’d rather go to the store where there is a price for a good. If I like the good enough to justify the price, I buy it.
Why couldn’t transfer between regions be kept free (or at a one time charge) and just block us from participating in WvW? I honestly don’t understand why this can’t be the way it’s done.
They have a very small live team. They are putting a large amount of their employees on making expansion content. To try and make it seem like they are giving us more stuff and to make our attention occupied longer they are using these time sinks and pseudo content to keep us in the game.
A very weak ‘Living Story’, character-bound fractal levels, the commander title, and the time-gated ascended gear acquisition through laurels and commendations (all character bound) are shining examples of this.
It’s becoming a very disenchanting experience with the company from how I felt pre-launch, to say the least.
Cosmetic only rewards. There is no problem here.
Good video. Entertaining and informative, good job!
Where are all the good players at yo?
Define good? Your rating is average, so you should be getting matched with the average player.
No, but seriously. Rekt.
This notification is wonderful. Very glad they added it.
Question to the people saying they aren’t listening to the community…are you feeling that the forums are the community, or are you thinking of the in-game community? Because these forums are maybe 15% of the people who play the game, and I hardly feel that these forums are worth listening to most of the time…especially the sPvP forums.
So if the forums don’t count, what do they mean when they say they are ‘listening to the community’?
Except for those that want to chase items with better stats.
But it’s all about you amirite?
Fun impacts loot collection. The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you dont need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but its not required to play the game. We dont need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who dont are just as powerful and get to have fun too.
Colin Johanson
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”
-Mike Obrien, President of Arenanet
Either this is all lies or you are playing the wrong game. Considering the nov 15th update and all the subsequent ones… enjoy the game as its been changed for you.
I keep trying to hit the + symbol, but it only let’s me do it once. This should be stickied somewhere unbiased.
You think you’ll like it, anyway. We haven’t actually experienced it yet.
Well, it’s always great to be optimistic, it helps a lot in experiences.
Optimism leads to disappointment.
Actually you’re thinking of setting high expectations, when you do that then you’re bound to be disappointed. An example of being optimistic is if the patch still had culling limitations and instead of focusing on the negativity you focus on the positive note that you can see more and customize culling to a degree. That way, you stay a bit happier.
High expectations. Hmm. Does just believing what they told me count as that? Because I’ve tried that since launch and it hasn’t worked out so well for me.
The patch comes out right when dailies reset. Every. Single. Time.
Yet people still ask this question.
Not true. It has also released at Noon and closer to midnight (PST) before.
Oh, there has been some confusion because of the data miners who are mixing up weapons/items you get IN the SAB, and weapon skins you can use in Tyria. The fire sword is only IN the SAB, as are the chain sticks, monkey nail bat, etc. It’s should be pretty easy to tell the difference. But the SAB Fire Sword is the one that I can see why it would cause some confusion.
And yes, you can save your baubles for future releases.

Please let this be the next back slot reward!
Well, I think each map has a commander cap. Though I don’t know what it is.
My problem with commanders is that you can just buy it with gold. Which makes no sense for it’s use.
