“I’m finding companies should sell access to forums,
it seems many like them better than the games they comment on.” -Horrorscope.7632
I fail to see what problem this suggestion poses to solve.
Proposal denied.
My characters talk to themselves about the “terrible voices in his/her head” whenever I see bad RP in world.
This is often. ;__;
Sigh, all this lore quibbling about a simple option players would like to have. Option. Not even forcing it. I certainly can’t begrudge anyone who wants their Charr erect.
Okay, story time leading up to a question:
Last night, I decided to take my turret engineer (yes, each of my many characters has a style they focus on, rather than changing all the time) into VB. I don’t like the HoT zones, but I need mastery EXP, and thought that maybe it would be a good idea to use him to defend areas in the meta event.
At one point, I wound up setting my turrets up near some NPCs and fighting a couple of things that had latched onto my trail as I got there. When those targets were destroyed, the turrets did what they always do, looked for a new target. And they found one, one of the red frog people. A bit to my dismay, they opened fire at this thing walking around on the edge of their range.
And… it didn’t notice. Rifle shots and missiles were launched, but each and every one missed without this thing even trying to dodge. I checked the description under its health bar, and saw that it dodges ranged attacks. Without trying or entering combat, it was dodging all my ranged attacks. As an engineer that didn’t have the points to unlock Scraper even if I wanted to, I was pretty much helpless against this thing.
So, the question here is what was the reason for putting something like that into the game, when some of the classes can actually be locked out of having a melee attack? Yes, I realize that AoEs will hit it, but AoEs tend to be harder to come by due to cooldown timers and other costs. Giving players a blanket “immune to ranged attacks” ability would be overpowered, so why is it not seen so with an NPC?
Ranged AoEs will still miss those frogs. It dodges according to distance, so even with a ranged weapon, you can get within point blank and still hit it. It’s meant to force ranged characters to stop kiting. ..and follow the blighter into another pack of enemies that it callously leaps into.
Overall, I don’t consider them ‘bad’ enemies, just in need of some tweaks to make them more like players:
Require them to actually Dodge. Expend stamina. Be susceptible to Weakness.
Tune down their leap distance. They go entirely too far in the cramped settings of HoT zones, and chasing them down with melee is entirely too frustrating. (Yes, even with closers.)
Also a small note about their damage, but I think the two above would make them reasonable tolerable, since their HP pools are suitably low.
So, yeah, I’d like to ask: What’s being done to improve the current HoT designs and make them more polished?
The Dreamer – Critical attacks have a chance to put foes to sleep, making all skills go on cool down.
Nah.
100% chance on hit to grant Fury to surrounding allies. The faster the fight ends, the sooner that stupid horse gets out of their ears.
75% chance on hit to put the user to sleep for five seconds. Surrounding allies breathe a sigh of relief, removing a condition and gaining swiftness (so they can get away from the wielder faster).
It feels more biweekly, actually. It’s just that the outfit qq threads show up every week. :P
Everyone who has run in WvW has gotten ganked from time to time. It happens.
I don’t have many good memories of WvW. Or many memories at all.
But getting sidelined by a zergtrain was actually one of the most hilarious moments I’ve had in the Mists.
Legit question: First MMO?
Seasonal events are almost always the same every year, sometimes without any variation at all.
A, much healthier, option would be for ANet to add way more permanent achievements, that give AP more reflective of the effort put into obtaining them. I mean, with LWS2 and HoT the new AP available was extremely limited, almost a pitiful amount really. We need more of those general achievements, that you can work on as you play the game, where you can earn far more than 10AP a day if you work towards it.
Simply increasing the daily AP cap doesn’t solve the problem. It exclusively helps veteran players (which is not healthy),and it could be used as an excuse by ANet to continue giving very little new AP with every release. So far LWS3 has been better than HoT and LWS2 were imo, hopefully they pick up the pace even more.
As much as I agree with this, there’s a certain reality to be faced by understanding that there’s just no room for ANet to really work on this in a meaningful way. They can’t currently scrape together legendary journeys, which means the more practical solution is in something sustainable with few man-hours invested. In this case, it means deleting the cap.
For the feel of the game, I’d rather see more permanent achievements and suitable rewards for the effort invested. (Let’s not forget how terrible Hungry Hal was…) As it looks right now, the AP values of tasks are just lobbed about at random without much consideration of how much time or resources it takes to do them. :\

The number of skill points/hero challenges will probably be made smaller, first of by cutting them from low level areas.
That is a legit concern. :\
If Hero Points, skills, and traits, start at 20, then it’s going to be REAL boring getting there, and there wouldn’t be a need for challenge points in starting zones.
Alternately, I think they might keep utilities opening up at … ye gods, when do they open? I haven’t leveled from 1 without a 20-scroll since NPE started.
Suffice it to say, if they delay utility options until 20 so they can all be opened with hero points, that will make the 1-20 stretch more boring than it already is.
Well good for ya!
I’m a fan of the game as well. It needs improvements, and if I seem grumpy at points, it’s because: 1) the devs are missing out on so much potential, 2) the community is so toxic, like more than Scarlet’s minions. ;_;
Still, I love the fluid combat, the simple yet (mostly) potent character options, the art style (in most cases), and the approachable nature of the game.
Short answer? Nerfs.
Old warrior design is old, and it shows through all the skills and traits. If there’s a dev that actually plays warrior with something other than Eternity, it’s nowhere near obvious.
Yeah, weapons more in line with Bolt and The Juggernaut rather than Quip and The Dreamer would be nice.
Hate. The. Dreamer. Haaaate.
But yeah, I’d actually try for the new legendaries if they weren’t overglorified toys.
…
I got kicked out of my guild, but the friends I made from that few days was worth it. You don’t know what it’s like to hear “Oh crap. Poetik is here.” on servers you aren’t even on.
I never imagined one could use the power of troll for good. Golf claps to you.
Yeah, I support this. Give charr more love, Anet. We know Gail loves cats.
Be cautious of how you invoke the devs.
We might end up with frogs for horns! :P
Which is why my Revenant will be Sylvari
I want to be unique, just like everyone else.
