It would help, so much, if the players would just learn to take a step back and not be kittenbags about it. :\ Everything is the end of the world to them.

Don’t change something? They get bored and complain.
Change something? They freak out and complain.
Fix something? They lambaste it wasn’t done fast enough.

There’s quite a few “I’m gonna leave/not spend money” posts, but they seldom actually LEAVE. Funny that.

As it is, if we do want feedback to go through, we need as few actual posts as possible on specific topics, and they need to be cleaved of 90% of the of over-emotional garbage that’s in them.

Why we hear nothing but Silence from ANet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

Look, it’s okay to have criticisms about the game. I have my own. Trust me, people on my guild’s Teamspeak channel are often privy to some angry ranting about this game.

That said, a lot of the good feedback on these forums is totally obscured by dozens of angry hyperbole. Whatever you think of Megaserver, it is not destroying the game. It is not the worst thing ArenaNet has ever done. It is not so broken that the only option is to immediately remove it. They did not do it to save tons of money because the game is failing.

Chill. Out.

If this community doesn’t police its own worst offenders, it will remain a toxic pool of discontent. We’ve seen great examples of self-regulating our members within the CDI posts. Bringing that same attitude to the entire forum would be a great first step at helping developers be comfortable enough to post here regularly.

We need to build trust with them first. Trust is earned. We aren’t earning it .

“Bringing that same attitude to the entire forum would be a great first step at helping developers be comfortable enough to post here regularly ".

If i’m hearing you right?

what are you talking about?

There are multi-tude of that in the forums and you guess what?, Arena.net still remain silent.

“If this community doesn’t police its own worst offenders, it will remain a toxic pool of discontent”

Let me get this straight, it is Arena.net Duty to communicate with their player base and resolve the problems that they may have.

As a Company to an employee, it is the Company Respnsibility to communicate to their employess. Toxic or not: Communication help the Company know the needs of their employees and Resolving any problems that they may have

Is it the employee responsibility to help the employer “feel comfortable” to being an employer?

As a Parent to a child, it is the Parent Responsibility to communicate to their child. Toxic or Not: Communication help the Parent know their child and Resolving their child problems that they may have

Is it the child responsibly to “help his/her parent feel comfortable” to being a Parent ?

To you, the reason why Arena.net (the Parent, the Company) do not communicate and resolve our concerns and problems is because we made them feel uncomfortable and that we are toxic?

In other word, we failed in becoming their slaves servants and their programmable robots…

WoW!

just

WoW!

…You’re the reason we can’t have nice things. -_-

Developers are still people, paid or not. Would you want to be on the back end of all this virtual garbage people are spewing? No.

So learn how to be productive. That will open the dialog between gamers and developers, and give them much less digital poo they have to sort through to find good ideas they can incorporate into their game design.

Geez. :\

Tonics to Outfits. It's time.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

When the wardrobe system first got its rollout, several fashion pieces weren’t supported. Those became infinite-use tonics, much to the disappointment of many people who invested gems. While refunds were given in a timely fashion (and I’m thankful for that), it’s still a disappointment.

We can’t take them into combat and there are no dye channels. Most regrettably, we can’t mix and match with town clothes, which are also tonics.

This can change, now that we have outfits. Easy-on, easy-off, combat-capable, and dye-customizable, outfits have seen some great support from the design staff. With that in mind, it’s time to allow us to convert those tonics into outfits, so we can use them better.

Why is zerging so encouraged in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

Zergs are simply a by-product of:

No Holy Trinity.

Simple as that.

Ugh, gods no. It’s a much more complicated issue than that. There’d be zergs even if there were tanks and healers. Because tanks would sit up front trading off aggro while the healers lazily lob heals and dps safely nicks away at the boss.

So just no. It’s not that.

If you wanted a simple answer, it’s because the content is open world and anyone can wander in or out at their leisure. The zerg’d content provides some of the better rewards (I don’t want to say “best”, because rewards in GW2 are… bad) for relatively safe and efficient participation.

If you pick any class, progress down its support trait line (usually has Vitality and/or Boon Duration), equip Cleric’s gear or something similar, and pick their utility/weapon sets for it, you can be a passable healer.

You’ll also do not-so-great damage.

Anti-Condition Feedback

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

It really is disturbing that the devs refuse to acknowledge and adjust things for how people and zergs actually perform. When conditions are well more than half the game, why would they decide that reflecting them is a sane, fair option, especially when there are autoattacks that do it?

It’s bad enough that a heavy-CC build is generally crippled by champions, but hearing this just makes me question whether some devs need to be let go for some vacation time. Apparently, the two-week schedule is causing panic attacks that make things like the above seem like good ideas.

On Mounts & Housing.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

I’ll sum up the constant, constant arguments:

- Housing -
Some do for the sake of privacy and community, and to put the “guild” back in Guild Wars 2.
Some don’t because it’s “pointless” and “vain” and isn’t “content”.

- Mounts -
Them: NO NO NO NO
Other Them: But they’d be coooool~
Them: NONONONO
Other Them: But gold sinks and style and
Them: CLUTTER NONONONOOO

…but to do it more justice, actually:

Nay:
It’s a vanity resource, waypoints are superior to mounts in most cases, and it may pull resources away from building content. Some feel it is inappropriate to lore and theme (the “not WoW” argument) as they may be ridiculous or be used to bother players and block NPCs. Also, status quo also runs in this direction, so we might not see them in development.
If mounts come with speed, all the classes would have to be redesigned, and ANet will have to decide how to distribute for balance and power (gems only, WvW yes/no, etc).

Yea:
Mounts are cool, handy to get around sprawling maps with locked waypoints, and can generate both revenue and gold sinks into the game.

Lots of good Nay reasons, not so many Yea reasons, and the Yea doesn’t really tackle the humongous effort it would take to introduce them properly.

There is no "living world" in GW2

in Living World

Rauderi.8706

K. Bye.

You’re expecting a lot more from an MMO than it can provide, especially in a story context. ANet tried an actual Living World, and it didn’t work out, because they discovered that beyond their limited means to produce content, they were throwing it away. It’s an MMO, of course choices don’t matter. If your choices mattered, then it would have to change the entire world around your choices, which just doesn’t work in an environment where everyone is the main hero. That’s just.. basic facts.

So, good luck finding the game you want, but it’s not going to be an MMO.

Tried it. Didn’t like it. Reasons are smeared all over the forum.

And yet, I can see how it would be helpful to new players. To think of it, the highlighted features should show up faster, rather than spaced between 1 and 23…
I’m hoping some of it was just a bug, because getting some of those notices as a veteran was just baffling.

And the limit of combat options is understandably infuriating for a veteran player. The pushback of utility slots to make characters even weaker by level 30, when dungeons open, is a terrible idea to prepare them (new or veteran) for more difficult content.

Losing your warband/crewe/friends that you’ve built up. Apparently, having ally NPCs go with you into combat was a shining point in GW1. GW2 doesn’t even remember they exist past their relevant vignettes.

You can look at the fact the Story forum has been “archived” (shut down) as proof ANet’s probably not going to fix/extend the Personal Story any further.

I’m not liking the new destiny’s edge (lower case intentional) replacements that much either. Quite frankly, if I wanted a pair of women gushing over each other to the point of distraction while they leave getting work done to others, I’d go read Final Fantasy fiction. I don’t give a whit about Anets GMPC’s. It reeks of White Wolf level railroading and bad writing.

All in all, I’d like /some/ attention paid to the PC for a kitten change. Not a passing line of dialog, not being referred to GMPC #1631345’s “friend” and not as “just another adventurer.” We are incredibly deadly, frighteningly capable, world-shaking engines of Getting Kitten Done, and some acknowledgement of that would be nice as a player.

But as things are now, the new group of DM created special snowflakes are just replacements for the last group of them. But while destiny’s edge are a pack of simpering morons more interested in teenage drama and blame games than they are of doing their jobs, the new group are too busy flirting and necking in the bushes to be of any use.

Enough of this. Get them out of the way so the professionals can gets things done already.

Show, don’t tell. You can talk about the PC being a commander and doing commander things somewhere else all you want. It’s not shown in game, since it goes from Zhaitan, to Scarlet, to whatever is going on now, and apparently we only actually had a hand in the first one. Everything else happens offscreen and the PC we’re playing is just some random sideliner taking part in the writers characters’ story.

I… can’t add anything to this. This echoes a lot of what I’m feeling about the story writing. Through level 20 or so, the PC was important, even if a lot of that was indecisive leaning by the PC’s administrative superiors. But now, we’re not even worth an honorable mention. :\

Why is zerging so encouraged in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

Zergs are a byproduct of a lot of things:

“Open world” bosses that are intended to occupy 5-100 people.
Shared mob tagging. Everyone gets loot, as long as they contribute to damage.
Most mobs have very pitiful AI and attacks that are singularly focused. This encourages “auto-attack” gameplay and “stacking” in dungeons.

Additionally:
Bosses are kept under lock and key, except for when they’re “allowed” to come out, once every 3 hours. This makes for a rush of people trying to get the credit when it’s still possible in their slim play windows.

[Suggestion] Key Ring [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

Rather than make a whole new storage method/system for them, I think that keys* should just go in a “key ring” section of the wallet.

  • keys = anything used to open a locked container, including crow bars, chak acid, machetes, and anything else that Anet might make up for opening locked containers

In general, the guideline ought to be:

  • For any stackable, account-bound item that does not require interaction, give it a line in the Wallet.

Currencies are already in place, and now it’s time for “key” items to be in there as well.

Ley Line gliding underwhelming

Yeah, they need to add more ley line gliding areas to make it worth it. Other than Dragons Stand I haven’t found any real use for it.

They should add gliding to core tyria, and vertical ley lines that spring up on the wp’s. Then you can use the wp’s to get into the air on the ley lines and glide across the maps. That would be cool.

I’d appreciate it if leyline gliding opened up areas that were normally blocked off by metas. Verdant Brink canopy being a good example. Instead of needing a chopper, zip on up with leyline. Instead of finding “the right chopper”, take a leyline path from one boss area to another. (Pack a lunch, it’d be a long flight. o_O)

I thought GW2 was all about not artificially trying to make life complicated for the players..

Edit: I really don’t get how you could release two of your very best maps with the previous releases and then drop something like this that feels like it was created by someone who thought the first versions of the HoT maps were not quite annoying enough and who learned absolutely nothing from the feedback in those days.

I get the impression there are two factions in the GW2 development offices.

One, the benevolent souls who give us quality of life improvements like the wardrobe, deposit materials/trading post sales from anywhere, and shared inventory slots. They are the stewards who fluff our pillows so we can enjoy our flights of fancy.

The other, sadists who take joy, our joy, and rip it from us with exploration-block maps, 5-second stuns on 3-second cooldowns, nuisance storyline items, non-conveyance jumping puzzles, and daily storyline elixirs. Their eternal quest is to annoy and rankle us while they sneer in their dominance of our game world.

I imagine that, when there is a conflict between them, they have a company softball (or disc golf) game to sort out which of their policies will make it into new content. I also imagine last game’s score was 2-8 in favor of Lion’s Arch Lashers.

I may have an active imagination.

Now, if you’re spoiled and want to unlocked them all it will feel like a wasteful grind, which it is. Unlocking all the elites in gw1 would be even worse.

EDIT: i’d like to add that not all the trait quests are well done, I personally think the map completion requirement for some is too much of a time sink. The system isn’t perfect by any means.

Wow, way to slap your audience in the face with “spoiled.” And traits is not the argument to dig your heels into, honestly. Especially when comparing it to GW1 elites.

I don’t overly argue with the concept that traits had. If they were simplified like skill point locations were, I’d even be more accepting of them.

But, as they are now, the trait system goes against the design goal of “let players experiment”. Players can’t experiment until level 80. They have to hunt for specific build options, because the others are locked behind inane tasks and bugged events.

The current trait system isn’t a good pastry. It’s walking into the store, getting a wad of cold dough, then being told that the toppings are somewhere on the third floor, and you have to complete a training course to use the oven. Bad.

It’s fantastic to see that after epic-fail silence from 99% of the forums.

What’s more, instead of offering platitudes and vagueries, he’ll actually go up to the limit that policy allows him to talk about, barring non-disclosure information, of course.

That is the kind of thing we’d like to see. Even a simple “we’re working on something we can’t disclose” would send relief through many who are just waiting on some kind of response. As for the rest of them, foo on ‘em. They’ll complain about anything, anyway, so it’s in the game’s best interest to ignore the more selfish of their responses. Shake it off, as it were. =P

Changes to the BL Chests

It’s disappointing to see that whoever’s planning these boxes isn’t listening to the community or thinking about giving players good value for their money. It’s downright infuriating that these shoddy RNG boxes even still exist, but mostly that they exist in their form exclusively as an attempt to coax player spending.

Thing is, we’ve said what we would consider buying keys for, and I think an honest polling of the community would do a lot of good, if dev-management listens to it. 100 gems or $1.56 isn’t that much to me, so I’d be willing to pay for gambling boxes, if there were some guarantee of utility. And I don’t mean an access item and a leveling tome. :\

And I sure as kitten don’t mean a single trick or treat bag when they tumble out like Halloween candy. If the seasonal gifts are going to be a thing, they ought to be a small stack, at least 20. Selling that stack for less than a gold offsets the 100 gems or 28-30g it takes to buy a key. (Or rewards a once/week, currently bugged, level 10 key run with.. very little.)

The wardrobe unlock is a fantastic idea, and I applaud it making it to the box. I’m frustrated that this is still considered a rare drop, as I’d probably be willing to buy keys if there were a slot that guaranteed an RNG of the following:

  • Ticket scraps
  • Full Tickets
  • Wardrobe Unlocks
  • Mini Egg (and none of this account bound garbage…)
And I mean it. One of those in every box. Stop the wildly random foolishness.

One Path Ends worst4charr "SPOILERS"

why should a charr, that worked with humans, fought side by side with humans against dragons, joined order that is at least partially composed of humans, have problems working with the shining blade?

At that part of character development, the charr char should either grown enough to see beyond the species – or should not be part of the story anymore.

Two reasons, one top-down, the other bottom-up:

1. As a Charr, he should still be loyal to the Legions. That’s not something you just “get over” when it’s been a tight bond of your social structure since childhood. GW2 never really addresses this, but it the sort of loss the character endures, more than once, should be devastating. Add in that Kryta is barely an ally (cease-fire, not a treaty), and the notion of forging a soul-binding agreement to a human (still a potential enemy) cult should be a non-starter.

2. As a former leader of the Pact, the character should be free of complicated entanglements and loyalties to a particular sovereignty. Theoretically, this would include his home nation, or he would be pressured to step down. None of the PC characters, regardless of race, should have made that choice, especially for a simple scrap of information.

Bog Otter's take on Legendary Suspension.

Very poor video, he total misses the points why people are upset, and he is pulling numbers out of his kitten , he even says that he doesn’t have figures.

Agreed. Actually wanted to dislike the video, but apparently he hid behind a safe wall.

Actually I think he made a valid point. Anet knows how many players by percentage have even 1 legendary. They know how many have 2.

If they create 16 legendary journeys, what they’re doing is creating content that most people will never do. It’s not really like a dynamic event or even a dungeon or fractal. It’s a long term goal that many people either can’t reach or can’t be bothered going for.

Saying that he doesn’t have numbers is quite irrelevant because Anet does have those numbers and they made the decision.

Maybe they should have made the journey more of a journey and less of a
material / gold grind .. since that was what a lot people expected i think.
So yeah .. they wanted to do quests instead of pay 1000g or whatever, but
what they got is do the quests and pay still 999g .. lol

Ayup.

ANet seems to have this thing of “we have numbers, therefore decisions” without actually determining why those numbers exist. And few things chuff me as hard as bad science.

Outfits/Armor you want.

Medium armor vests instead of trench coats.
Some better options for less-covering armor selections for males.
More pants in all weights.
Culture-themed outfits (finish up the Krytan gods, then throw in Asura colleges, Charr legions, Norn spirits, etc)

I wish the game had a little bit more Game of Thrones feeling, where nobody is safe and a lot of the powerful characters are evil.

No offense, but there’s WoW for that. (If you’re Horde, at least…)

MMOs generate a legion of inconsistencies if they kill/alter prominent characters, and it sets a terrible narrative atmosphere. With the way that Destiny’s Edge is slowly getting fridged for the sake of making room for Dragon’s Watch, it already makes visiting some locations in the world pretty awkward.

Dragon Stand really could use some change

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

It may be moot. When the new maps for Living World come out, and the next expansion, most of the Heart of Thorns maps will be dead regardless. But . . . if they make some radical changes . . . maybe it’ll survive, but I’m doubtful.

Dragon Stand is already almost dead. The main reason?

Only one megamap gets in. Everyone else gets screwed. ANet needs to fix the population problem.

Cosmetic Concerns

Blame charr and asura. If it weren’t for them, Anet could just make a single suit two suits per class weight (since sylvari, humans and norn share a similar model).

Blame genders. Having two genders means fitting gear to both of them. In fact, blame humans et al for their insistence on specificity. If everything were Charr/Asura, we’d only have one suit per class weight, cutting the production time down to a quarter of what it would be normally. We could even afford to add Tengu as a playable race (since they use the same rig as Charr) after we save all that money on voice acting.

Does that sound silly? It sounds a little silly.

I would have liked a bit of other notice, but I find the mini-events to be fairly amusing. There’s a little moment of discovery in getting that “what the huh?” item, but I worry for other players who might not stumble on them before they’re gone.

Increasing Returns (IR)

Rauderi.8706

It’s always been my thought that, if you must gate special loot behind RNG, that there be an additional counter that climbs with the times the special loot didn’t drop and resets when the loot is attained.

Say, for infamous example, precursors. As an assumption
For every exotic rolled on a drop, it has a n/1000 (n=1) chance to be a precursor. Any time that an exotic drops (already a rare chance) and a precursor doesn’t drop, n=n+1. Which would mean every thousandth exotic for a given player is a precursor! Yay.

They need to remove specific zone event completion from the rotation and put in area zone completion. Use Maguuma Jungle/Wastes, Kryta, etc. instead.

With all the texture warping, tail clipping, and horn-hiding, there are some days I feel like this picture.
Would it be too much to ask to have one person balance textures and add tail covers? I’ve seen a few armors add a cover where the tail meets the spine, and it serves as a great way to cover tail clipping issues.
And more pants. A race that runs on four legs should never be tripping over its own (racial) clothing.

Having Fractals not take an hour means that players can have a fulfilling game experience in a shorter, more manageable amount of time. It’s easier to fit into busy lives.

As it is, Fractals being the usual 3+1 maps just made it an unapproachable burden. With upcoming dailies and a shorter required play experience, we might see more fractal participation.
