Now I didn’t reach r42 in sPvP by dying to thieves, so I fought back.

Everytime I hear the rank in SPvP as a measurement of skill, I laugh too.

the thing about thieves in general is it’s hard to build an effective tank. Damage without traiting and gear is just not impressive at all. The only way to really do this is a condition build, and most people agree that they’re gimmicky and not as good on thief as on other classes.

So building for survivability with gear doesn’t really work, but the thief’s strength is stealth. the first second or two of stealth, the thief is still vulnerable, but if they keep moving and dont get ccd they’re safe. Thieves also have good burst damage. The combination sets up the berserker thief playstyle. The goal is to use stealth for survivability and to aim for spending as little time out of stealth as possible. To do this, and still win fights, you need to down people quickly, which requires a high damage build. So you try to down people, stealth, wait down someone again…etc. And thats why berserker thieves are actually quite survivable.

The downside of course is that tanky thieves aren’t really an option, as everything seems to be balanced with berserker thieves in mind.

Hey dear gw2ers, the sitation is like ele is the jack of all trades, no king, but strong in everything, makes ele fully viable and good as the other proffesions. if ele could do 100-120 k damage mutch more would run it and it would get insantly nerfed, and no chance that it can do 120 k. Show me a screen of you doing 120 k and il follow your toughts. but thief got better damage becuse we can do 20 k damage each 3 sec, and 30 k below 25 % hp, ele can beat thief, no doubt in that they are counter of thieves, but in damage we are still supreme over them, but their good side is that if you compare their damage to their survablity to the thief damage and survablity, if you get a together number of that, ele will be best, but if you only count damage thief will rule it defeinivlity. and if you got 100-120 k that got to be on that dungeon boss which let you do tons at him:) So im the one that burst your bubble..

The only reason you died is because you ignored the Thief. You saw a puff of smoke and still continue on to finish off the Mesmer.

If you reacted by defending yourself, you wouldn’t have died — and you know it.

This is not about the Thief, even an Elemetalist or Necro, if ignored will kill you too.

Funny story that happened to me in PvP

I fought against a warrior with two handed sword and long bow. He was so silly as to stand in my Black Powder. I just hit him with full rotation of auto attack until I popped HS, got invisible, back stabbed and repeated. When he dropped to 40%, I had still 12 initiative! I didn’t want to waste any time on this one, so I just hit him with 3 HS and he was dead.

His last words were: “stupid thieves, always spam HS, no skill in that”

now THAT was hilareous

I Fight thief Wv3 and i die alot cause they 2 hit me , me have 2.8k def and D/D thief isnt not way not strong but its attacks are encumbering I can use my engie to net shot them but they break that cauze they go stealth and cleasne condition and get nother cleanse for 3 secs in stealth. So i caltrop for control and yeah its lows them for a little but its not enough to mitiage the dmg i get hit 10k backstab . Even if i remotely get jump on thief he stealth and 2 shots me with massive dmg i no lie , because you spamming skills and he sitting bk and picking teeth playing with your life.

Lets take S/D for instance , they hit like a truck..they have infinite stunbreakurs and never fall down keep coming they no stop coming i can CC them to kitten and they still bind and continue to pelt my brains out , the real pain doesnt come till they want to daze you..you not what 1/ 1/2 daze will do to you with a massive co effikitten? NUKE you with no time to retal . Run in circles in die…wheres the balance?

Ok lets dicurss the P/D , its ok but its no big deal..its bleeds you slowlyand you die eventually but P/D is fine . lets move on we shall we?

Ok D/P is a true troll , they dance through shadows like thieves in a blackout , all you can see if red circles and you cant counter them by standing in those circles cause they blind u and u no able to use skill when u blind . when you least expect it even if you do! you get hit for HUGE dmg and he rinses and repeat till you staring at respawn screen. Oh dont tell me to cc him cause thats the biggest load of crap since RNg got introduced. He will shadowstep with cloak dgger skill and proceed like nothing happened. You can get buddies to help but he will stack so much stealth you guys got better luck solo a breakout Commander.

Shortbow D/D Conditon
They are the weakest , they kill fast with bleeds but are quite vulneroble to damage , you know why? they no stealth lol …what does that tell us other classes about yours? stealth is completely broken , coupled with no Cds , regen inside it and massive dmg / cleasnes you thieves are unstoppable killin machines..forget that old vit/tough mumbo jumbo away with it!

S/P : Ok this one is unheard of , but i think somne just needs to release cookie cutter build for them to surface. then ill be back to q.q about nerfin their pistol whop.

TLDR : Nerf thief down ground . They OP too strong for normal classes we need balance.

I never expect to lose. Even when I’m the Engineer , I still prepare a victory speech.

Name 1 dev that plays thief. Btw, this is 74 pages of Anet not giving a crap about thieves.

It’s funny that thieves get the most hate from everyone even still now that they can’t burst anyone (despite uplevels) from 100-0 anymore and die everywhere but roaming (where they are top tier). Thieves could do 0 damage and still people would cry. People want to zerg over everything and when they find something that they can’t zerg, it’s op need nerf.

By default, Thieves are self-rightous hypocrites and jerks, but for once, OP, you can go burn in hell too, the whole ‘Thief is broken’ thing is really annoying, especially since the 7 last months.

You want short answers: Yes stealth is overpowered. No, the rest of the Thief’s toolset isn’t, and infact is so weak or poorly designed that stealth barely compensates it. Yes it’s a bad design from Anet. No noone knows how long it’s going to last.

I personally wish this skill would accidentally just disappear and never come back. I have died 7 times today and all of them have been because of this trait going off during my cnd. If anet is going to keep this trait please fix it somehow so I dont get revealed every single time.

Yes, this trait has saved me some times and I’m sure other people love the trait. Unfortunately, it has killed me more times than saved me. I’m curious to see what other people think about this trait from hell….. Get out of Jail. or Insta Death trait?

So after much time of hating thieves.. dying.. lots of dying.. i tried to counter them. (dont tell me how to counter them, just dont waste your time replying), and i literally cannot counter good thieves with whatever build i use. i shouldnt say counter, i mean, beat a thief. i get his life low, he just runs. alright, whatever. but that same thief will keep harassing me, ill get his life low, rinse and repeat. alright so i guess thieves are meant to be able to do that. its okay, its an intended class mechanic. i understand that. but.. every single thief i have ever ran into runs full berzerker gear. (or the %5 exception of condition thieves). Wow, when i started to think about that, it finally clicked. THIEVES CANT DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT TO BE RELIABLE!!!!!!!!
why are theives forced into always going full berszerker?? because no thief can be a bunker build. Its not about dodging that makes you bunker, so dont tell me “yeah, thieves can tank if they dodge”, not at all. when a theif takes damage, it is pretty high no matter what. they can run the most toughness possible and still take 5k from somone. (which is half of their life pool almost) So, arenanet, if you will, rework the thief so that other thief builds will become reliable. so tha ti dont have to always run into a berszerker thief. its okay to run into a full berszerker build here and there for some classes, because, frankly %100 of any other class is much much more diverted into different stat usage. The thief? mostly every thief is berszerker. Can we agree on that? can arena net please make the thief more reliable with other builds so that i can finally fight a bunker thief, or more condition thieves, (ect). The same old berserker thief is (A)annoying if theyre good or (B)boring if theyre bad.

There have been 20+ major patches since the game released and each of those patches, save the last, took thief from playable to not so much. The thief has had damage nerfed, skills nerfed, their mechanics nerfed, weapon sets nerfed, and their overall viability and diversity nerfed in the process. Is it any wonder that the thief community has become skeptical of Developers who claim to be looking into ways of improving the thief? Is it any wonder that thieves are becoming scarce in the higher eschelon of PvP and WvW?

In the last patch, the thief gained a boon to one ability on one weapon… the ability to steal 2 boons from an opponent. This ability comes with a degree of difficulty, as all good abilities should, in the execution. The thief needs to 1) use an attack which telegraphs itself by rotating in the same direction around a target every time and 2) then land the chained ability in hopes that the opponent does not move after such an obvious animation… it also requires the opponent to have boons up in the first place. Its a great concept and one that thieves were happy to see… however, the impact was not as positive as the negatives the thief has received in the past. It was a single weapon and did nothing to help out other builds that had been nerfed to dust in the past.

Still, with all the nerfs, other classes still cry about how over powered a thief is. They complain that a thief can go into stealth and remain there indefinitely making them indestructible… they complain that the thief can 1 or 2 shot them to death, using numbers that are unreal to illustrate the fact… they complain that thieves that use stealth are cheesy and unskilled… they complain that heart-seeker is overpowered and an automatic death skill… and now, they complain about the ability to remove 2 boons from an opponent. Of course these same people never complain about a Guardian being able to keep retaliation up forever and a day, or a warrior’s ability to continually fear their opponents, or an elementalist who, with one build, is suited for every situation in WvW or PvP… nor do they complain about Necro’s and their ability to reflect conditions or use conditions to strengthen themselves or to put on stacks on stacks of conditions with little effort. Instead, they get onto the thief forum and complain how OP thieves are all the while never actually seeing if they could adapt their play style to effectively deal with the inherent weaknesses of the thief class… weaknesses only amplified by the numerous nerfs and constant changes to the class.

The point here is obvious… players do not like the thief class and no incarnation of it will ever make them happy. No matter what any Dev does to nerf or buff the thief class, those who do not main thieves will continue to find something that makes them OP… case in point, it took only a few hours after the May patch before people were swarming the thief forums complaining about how OP it was. Now that tells me… the complainers didn’t have time to adapt to the situation therefore they were complaining only because they refuse to learn to adapt… as they have constantly told thieves to do… adapt or die.

So, what is the solution…. Its simple really… Get rid of the thief class. Wait, you say, how will this help those who play thieves? Well, its simple. By getting rid of the thief class, the Devs set up a precedent for players to use when they begin complaining about other classes they feel are OP just because they cannot adapt to them. Eventually, GW2 will become a game of one class, one build, one set of gear, one set of accessories, and one set of Runes/Sigils… when that happens, the game will become Star Wars Galaxies and will go by the way of the Do-Do Bird… extinct. Granted, this may take some time… after all EQ is still going even though the game is basically a wasteland of players who know how to press an auto attack button while fixing their favorite nachos.

The thing of it is, players who play thieves will eventually become so bored and frustrated with the constant changes that they will drop thief entirely in favor of another class or stop playing altogether. There will be the die hard thieves who stick it out… but they will be far and few. So why not just do the thief community a favor and end the class? Save Anet the embarrassment of having a class available but hardly played because of what THEY did to the class rather than any real choice of players.
