5 man dungeons = community? Seems that quote is better fitting to people having to interact to open up temples, and complete certain meta events.
SAB says its group content, but its 100% soloable. Don’t let the group tag keep you from doing it.
As for the other stuff… I agree. Obviously dungeons ARE going to exist in the game, as well as other occassions that are going to require grouping. Its a multiplayer game, grouping and playing with others is a core factor. I certainly don’t think ALL content needs to be solo-centric.
But if something is largely solo to begin with (as the personal story and the Living Story up until this point have been) then it should remain that way. If you start a storyline or something solo, you should be able to finish it solo as well, don’t just pull the rug out and switch up the format halfway through.
MMO just means there are a lot of people playing, there’s no real requirement to team up with anyone out there in PVE and the personal story shouldn’t have ended with such a requirement.
I went through the bulk of the personal story teamed with two people and it would’ve been nice to finish off that chapter with just those same two people, but ANet didn’t want me to, so I get where the OP is coming from.
Why play an MMO if you don’t like to play with people?
This is a non-argument.
Because you like to play against other people.
Because you like trading with other people.
Because you like watching other people.
In most MMOs, you spend most of the time doing activities and interacting with fewer people than you would on an FPS server. From a gameplay perspective, playing with other people is rarely the point of playing an MMO.
Indeed, 5 players max parties disappointed me greatly. I mean Diablo 2, which isn’t even an MMO, had 8 player parties in which the difficulty scaled.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Looks like the cargo cult of game design is out in full swing in this thread. Gear grind bad. Trinity bad. Large group content bad. So sayeth a manifesto from years ago!
I’ve yet to see the grand developer vision in action in providing a revolutionary alternative to the status quo.
That is ironic because I very much see it in action- it is called GW2 and yes, it is kind of revolutionary when you look at the status quo of gear progression, raids, and trinity.
nevermind kill stealing, loot stealing and ganking.
My word it is very much a revolution :P

so in essence, you’re simply playing to achieve the top gear, and once that’s done, they release something that makes your current gear obsolete so you have to do it all over again? =/ that’s rather… disheartening.
I think this might actually be more broken than Confusion.
Are you kidding me? 5 AC’s, 5 Warriors, near-perma Immobilize and you don’t see an issue?
This is obviously broken and if you can’t see it then you have little to no WvW experience.
I don’t see an issue, If your playing with out a way to break the Immobilize then thats poor planing on your part. Personally I would rather play the game a try to find a counter to the issue then cry on the forums till anet changes it.
To comment on someones WvW experience just because they don’t agree with you is quite silly. A lot of anets nerfs are based off the player base crying that something is over powered or broken when in reality its the lack of peoples ability to adapt. In this discussion on arrow carts, if you get hit by a arrow cart and get Immobilized, use your stun break to get out, dodge and your good. Now if you feel the need to go back in and get immobilized to death…well maybe you should rethink how your attacking the gate.

I’m still going for mine…slowly.
I’ve tried about 100 attempts in the forge to make the precursor with no luck, and I only have about 60 of each t6 material.. they are about 30silver each on the broker!
I guarantee that by the time I get mine, they will release a new/better set of legendaries.
As someone who likes just joining in random wvw fights; If you have your commander tag up ill follow who I want to follow; end of story. If you don’t want me follow you don’t attract me with your blue dorrito so turn it off or port away to make me go follow someone else.
I swear this never use to be an issue before until players finally recognized WvW builds and combo finishers and came up with the idea that doing so made them better than everyone else.
(edited by Folk.2093)
The only valid reason groups dont want you to follow them is because the enemy can rally on your death. On the other hand let the enemy rally is something you shouldnt allow in the first place by finishing off downed players.
The enemy can rally on anyone’s death. What makes it elitist is the assumption that this random joiner is going to die before any of us do. Some guy they don’t know can’t possibly be a better player than the people on their team.
These groups need to get over themselves.
If there is a guild or a smallscale team that wants to run by themselves and politely ask you not to follow them, then by following them you are simply griefing. Sure, it can happen coincidentially that you meet at some supply camp or points but that’s not what I am seeing. It’s not like you can’t do other things in the zone except grief your fellow players.
You can’t call dibs on objectives or sections of a map.
If I go into EB and declare “I want to try and solo SM and all the keeps today, no one interfere” .. is the rest of my server griefing me when they ignore my selfish desires to have my game play overrule what they want to do?
Northern Shiverpeaks
I find this is happening more often in WvW, where 4-5 man roaming groups from tPvP would say to anyone near them for too long, things like “go away”, “why are you following us?”, “are you looking to be carried?”
You know they are a tPvP team when they are in the same guild, all have champion slayer titles, and are (often) Asura. Most roamers (whether solo/duo, learning uplevels, skirmish team, etc) aim for the same objectives without following the commander and the main force. If it so happens you are going for the same supply camp as your allies, no one has the right to tell anyone to go elsewhere. WvW gives players the freedom to fight for their server however they please, and your gaming “background” doesn’t mean you can bring your elitist attitude to WvW, as it belongs to everyone fighting for your server.
Tl;dr – Some (not all) tPvP teams need to get off their high horse and play WvW as a server, not to glorify themselves with “lol 4v30” videos. Treat your allies with respect.
there are only a few “flashy” skins so far.
particle effect in this game are really tame, compared to a lot of other games so far, so i dont mind so far.
however i see a trend, where things get more shinier in the future, because everyone want these “flashy skins”.
However, this isnt the creators fault, its the playerbase. they are choosing these for their character.
Heck, even i am going for “The Anomaly” as well as the a “Fractal Sword” for my character.
However i prefer less flashy effect on my armor. going for the simple style. (however, it would be grat to have the flames on the CoF armor colorable, that would be rad)

- Changed Sonic Periscope blowout effect to a knockback to reduce the amount of stunned time. The knockback effect will not affect areas level 15 or below.
I’m not cheap, I’ve bought keys in the past. But if they are going to be something that can only be bought…make it worth my money I work for. If you’re not (which is right now) make the keys a little more abundant…not a lot…but a little.
Because when the most effective way to obtain something in the game is to chain-create and delete a new toon over and over, there is an issue. Not sure why they made them “drop” anyway…and I use that term extremely loosely.
Why should I have to roll a new toon and do story modes to get a key that should be a dropped item. if the chest drop from all mobs then so should the keys at the same rate .
I wvw alot, so I shouldn’t have to go creating toons just to get a key to open a chest that I get as a drop in wvw .That is in its own right is a stupid set up for any game.
The dropping the keys to a more affordable price dosn’t sit well either, why should you have to pay for something to use on something you get as a drop?
People are dumb, the simple builds that work are desired above all else.. the unknown is shunned for little reason beyond “I heard it was bad”
Rangers and Necros are far from useless, just harder to get great performance from really.. good players on these professions do great things.
And again people are comparing Guild Wars 2 with other MMO’s
And again people read one line of the opening post and jump to conclusions.
Read again; this isn’t about “hermagerd GW2 isn’t WoW/GW1/STO/SW:ToR/ESO/etc/etc”, these are legitimate observations about how the player base and the short term events interact and how that may affect the game’s long term potential
Also comparing and contrasting a game to other games of the same genre is perfectly legitmiate; look at FFXIV or whatever number they’re up to now – that game was essentially developed in a vacuum in an attempt to be original and it ultimately turned out awful because it was missing many of the innovations modern MMO gamers take for granted. Their response was “This isn’t like any other MMO, you can’t judge us” – but it didn’t stop the players doing EXACTLY that and walking away

Personally, I somewhat disagree. I love the evolution of the game. The fact that newcomers will not know the significance of Southsun Cove is kind of cool. They may come to us veterans to ask. I like that the world is slowly evolving before our eyes, so that it’s not the same stagnant game today as it was a month ago.
That said, I’d like to see massive content updates in addition to these smaller ones (not in place of them). I hope that ANet has something big up their sleeve that they can add with a large amount of permanent content. I’d be happy with large updates like this every 6-12 months and smaller living story updates monthly.
However, if I had to choose one over the other, I think I’d prefer spaced out significant large updates over living story.
I don’t like it but that’s my opinion.
PvP is based on Wins/Losses, while it should be more based on kills/deaths…
Now you can’t pug anymore because in pug group people leave all the time anyway.Plus if it doesn’t reset, weekly/monthly then a new player will never be able to get in the list anyway.
I expected more from the leaderboards ; /
The winning part is actually the point of spvp. killing is just a byproduct of trying to get your team wins. maybe now that people se this they will try and get their teams wins now as opposed to just fighting 1v1’s off to the side and doing nothing to help their team.
All I have to say is “ouch”. I was used to steamrolling in t8. Actually have to try in t7. I’m still learning, tonight was hard

Ooohhh the dirty savannah talk in that 3rd screenshot hahaha
As a disinterested third party, let me add something to the skill v number discussion regarding SF/ET/FC.
First – Can we all admit SF has quite a large population? I haven’t been through tiers 7, 6, or 5 too recently, but back when FA was in T5….I think you guys have more people than us. Also, does SF just stay up late or do you guys have a significant overnight presence (NA centric overnght)?
Second – When you have the numbers, you dont’ need to worry about the skills and everything just kind of bleeds together – on both fronts. After FA had grown in population, we received similar critiques – you guys have no skills. You just zerg. So forth. I believe there are two things going on here:
(a) When you have that big of a population advantage (as we did) you don’t need to utilize complex strategies or skills and I’m sure after weeks of the same thing for SF….it’s pretty hard for them to be motivated to try new stuff (it’s like using superior blue prints when you know you can just PvDoor it real fast so why waste the money).
(b) On the flip side, with what I believe to be a large population advantage, it’s easy for the bads to get right in there with the goods and all blend in. On ET/FC, you guys have gotten pounded so long you probably consist of more hardcore individuals. On SF, their population permits the greenest PvEr to get out there and try to crack skulls and just stick to the zergs for safety. The bigger question is, will these people still show up when SF breaks out of T8?
If I were on SF, I’d be working on community development right now to make sure the population doesn’t turn fairweather after the first challenge. I don’t mean that as an insult to SF, but rather a comment on humanity. I have to say, I read the threads about SF and T8 before moving down, but I didn’t really anticipate this level of disparity.
I don’t mean any of this as a knock on SF, so please don’t take it that way. I hope you guys either find great competition in T8, or if you make it out, make it far up the tiers. I truly believe you have the raw materials to do it.
Last words – “I’m going to jump off this cliff
and pull all those guys down cuz they’ll die.”
You do understand that 40 is a zerg to us down here in little old t8, right?
Even groups of 15 are referenced as a zerg at times, usually to call something out quickly as opposed to referring to numbers, but still. Manning 40 together from the same guild is not a small feat by any means down here.
